UC Davis Launches Online Master of Management Degree Program to Expand Access to Business Education

The Graduate School of Management at the University of California, Davis, is introducing a groundbreaking online Master of Management (MM) degree program, becoming the first UC school to offer such a program. The new initiative aims to provide recent college graduates and working professionals with affordable and accessible high-quality business education.

Approved by the University of California Office of the President, the online MM program is now accepting applications for its April 2024 start date. Developed in collaboration with 2U, the program will be delivered through edX’s flexible degree model. This partnership builds upon the existing successful collaboration between 2U and UC Davis, which includes the highly regarded MBA@UCDavis online program and other professional certificate courses.

The Master of Management degree is designed to cater to individuals with non-business undergraduate degrees who are seeking to enhance their management skills. The program offers a condensed curriculum that equips students with the necessary knowledge to excel in the professional world. By providing a shorter and more affordable alternative to traditional MBA programs, UC Davis aims to address the needs of recent graduates and professionals looking to advance their careers.

H. Rao Unnava, Dean of the UC Davis Graduate School of Management, expressed excitement about the program, stating, “We are delighted to once again be the first UC to launch yet another innovative program.” The online MM curriculum will mirror the successful MBA@UCDavis program, covering core business areas such as accounting, economics, finance, marketing, and strategy. Students will benefit from interactive live online classes and self-paced coursework taught by UC Davis faculty, fostering lifelong connections with thought leaders in the field.

Andrew Hermalyn, President of Partnerships at 2U, emphasized the program’s goal of making high-quality online education accessible to learners worldwide. He stated, “Students graduating from this program will be prepared with a unique set of skills to help them make an immediate impact in the world.”

The online MM program addresses the growing demand from recent college graduates who feel unprepared for the job market. According to a 2022 survey, 49% of undergraduates believed they lacked the necessary skills for employment after graduation. By offering a flexible and comprehensive curriculum, UC Davis aims to bridge this skills gap and empower graduates to succeed in their chosen careers.

The UC Davis Graduate School of Management is renowned for its commitment to developing inspired, innovative, and collaborative leaders who make a positive impact. With the launch of the online Master of Management degree program, UC Davis continues to expand access to high-quality business education and equip individuals with the skills needed to thrive in the professional world.
