Top Republican claims Hunter Biden’s lawyers are intimidating possible whisteblowers

The top Republican probing Hunter Biden‘s business affairs has claimed that lawyers for the president’s son are intimidating possible witnesses and whistleblowers.

James Comer, who heads up the main investigatory body inside Congress, made the explosive claims in an interview with Just the News late on Thursday.

The 50-year-old Congressman, who represents Kentucky, said Biden’s legal team is trying to hamper his probe into influence-peddling.

‘We’ve got witnesses that are scared to death to come forward. They fear for their lives,’ he was quoted as saying. ‘The Hunter Biden legal team — they’re testing the limits.’

Comer also claimed – without citing any evidence – that Democrat officials in Congress were bankrolling ‘dark money groups’ to scupper the probe.

He said Democrat-leaning lawyers were also pressuring banks that are cooperating with the congressional investigation, but gave no examples.

His comments came after a special agent for the IRS, the country’s tax agency, asked Congress for whistleblower protection.

The anonymous source said, in a letter to the committee issued via his lawyer, that the investigation is being mishandled owing to Hunter Biden’s family ties.

On Thursday, IRS commissioner Daniel Werfel vowed that the employee of the U.S. tax agency would be protected.

‘I can say without any hesitation there will be no retaliation for anyone making an allegation or a call to a whistleblower hotline,’ the IRS commissioner replied.

The White House has repeatedly denied any interference in the case.

Hunter Biden’s taxes and foreign business work have been under federal investigation by a federal grand jury in Delaware since at least 2018.

House Republicans are also investigating Hunter Biden and his businesses, alleging he raked in millions from foreign governments for his now-defunct investment firm.

So far no charges have been filed against the 53-year-old, whose business interests came under the spotlight once more after leaked emails from his laptop emerged online.

His membership on the board of a Ukrainian energy company and his efforts to strike deals in China have also sparked claims of influence-peddling.

Hunter Biden was spotted over the weekend at a California vineyard that belongs to uber-rich Democratic donor Joe Kiani, a tech mogul.

He was seen with his wife Melissa Cohen and their three-year-old son Beau, plus their taxpayer-funded Secret Service detail.

It came as a judge in Arkansas ruled that he must appear in court for a paternity case filed by a former fling, Lunden Roberts.

Hunter will also have to submit to a deposition in June in which Roberts’ lawyers will likely grill him about his various businesses and shady overseas ventures.

They’ll also want to know Hunter’s finances have cratered while he’s selling paintings for up to $500,000 apiece under his new guise as an abstract artist.

Roberts, a former stripper, won a reported $2.5 million settlement from Hunter after taking him to court in 2019.

She also forced the ex-Navy reservist to take a DNA test to prove he fathered their daughter, Navy Joan, during their 2017 fling.

Roberts’s lawyers say Hunter Biden, who was booted out of the military in 2014 for taking cocaine, has not provided ‘a single item or word of discovery’ in their ongoing child support lawsuit.

Independence County Circuit Judge Holly Meyer on Monday ordered Biden to attend court on May 1 because his absence is ‘interfering with the process of litigation.’
