Tinder Partners with Mean Girls Actor Jonathan Bennett to Help Users Avoid Online Fraudsters

Tinder, the popular dating app, has joined forces with actor Jonathan Bennett, known for his role in Mean Girls, to raise awareness about online financial scams and toxic behaviors. In collaboration with Advocating Against Romance Scammers, Tinder is launching a new campaign on October 3rd, now recognized as World Romance Scam Prevention Day.

The campaign aims to educate users about common behaviors exhibited by online scammers and to remind them never to send money or invest with people they’ve never met. With the rise of crypto scams, which have become the largest financial scam in the US, totaling over $3 billion, it is crucial to equip users with the knowledge to protect themselves.

Stephanie Danzi, SVP of Global Marketing at Tinder, expressed pride in the company’s commitment to safety and creating culturally relevant campaigns that promote safer dating experiences. Alongside Tinder, Hinge, another dating app under the Match Group umbrella, is also sending in-app messages to users to discourage sending money or taking investment advice from strangers.

Kathy Waters, Executive Director of Advocating Against Romance Scammers, emphasized the importance of World Romance Scam Prevention Day in raising awareness and combating the controlled manipulation that enables fraud to succeed. Waters commended Match Group and Tinder for joining their efforts and helping to educate their users about the severity of online scams.

Match Group, the parent company of Tinder, has been proactive in implementing measures to protect users from scams and fraud. These include features like selfie verification and video chat, as well as safety tips communicated through popup messages if suspicious language is detected in user conversations.

By partnering with Jonathan Bennett and Advocating Against Romance Scammers, Tinder and Match Group are taking significant steps to ensure the safety and well-being of their users. Through education and awareness, they aim to empower individuals to recognize and avoid online scams, ultimately making the online dating experience safer for everyone.
