Raytheon Awarded $39 Million Contract by U.S. Air Force for Air Defense Command and Control Prototype

Raytheon, a business under RTX (NYSE:RTX), has been awarded a $39 million contract by the U.S. Air Force to develop and integrate the Battle Management Command and Control software into a prototype for air base air defense. This contract aims to enhance the defense capabilities of U.S. air bases worldwide against airborne threats.

Under this agreement, Raytheon will focus on developing a command-and-control foundation that can effectively counter complex attacks while reducing the manpower required to operate the system. The prototype will be designed to adapt to evolving technologies, allowing for seamless integration with the best sensors, effectors, and algorithms.

Paul Ferraro, the President of Air Power at Raytheon, expressed the company’s commitment to developing a prototype that addresses current threats and provides increased efficiency and effectiveness. Raytheon plans to leverage its unique decision aids and collaborate with various partners to ensure optimal performance.

This contract builds upon Raytheon’s previous work in the field of Air Base Air Defense. In 2022, the company showcased an Air Base Air Defense solution in Andoya, Norway, in partnership with the Air Force Research Lab. The lessons learned from that experiment will be applied to further enhance the prototype’s capabilities.
