IMAX® AND NCG CINEMAS EXPAND PARTNERSHIP WITH THREE IMAX LOCATIONS ACROSS THE U.S.

IMAX Corporation and NCG Cinemas have announced an exciting new agreement that will bring three state-of-the-art IMAX with Laser Systems to new locations across the United States. This partnership expansion will see the addition of two IMAX locations in Tennessee and Georgia, as well as an upgraded location in Michigan.

The construction of the new standalone IMAX theatre in Kingsport, Tennessee is set to begin this week, with plans to open its doors to the public in March 2025. This development marks a significant milestone for both IMAX and NCG Cinemas as they continue to provide audiences with the highest quality cinematic experience possible.

Rich Gelfond, CEO of IMAX, expressed his excitement about the growing commitment to IMAX from partners like NCG, stating, “This agreement continues the strong demand for the IMAX Experience we’ve seen this year in the North American market — a great indicator of momentum and future growth for our business.” This sentiment is echoed by Jeff Geiger, President & CEO of NCG Cinemas, who emphasized their dedication to delivering exceptional movie experiences to their neighbors and their pride in partnering with the renowned IMAX brand.

The partnership between NCG Cinemas and IMAX has been successful since its inception in 2010, with the opening of the Grand Blanc IMAX location in Michigan. This new agreement comes at a time when IMAX is experiencing strong box office results both domestically and globally. In fact, the company set a new record for third-quarter box office in 2023, raking in an impressive $347 million. July 2023 also marked the best month ever for IMAX, with $176.2 million in box office revenue, thanks in part to the exceptional performance of Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer.”

The three new IMAX locations at NCG Cinemas will be equipped with IMAX with Laser, the most advanced theatre experience offered by IMAX. This technology has been meticulously designed to provide crystal clear, lifelike images and precision audio, creating an unparalleled moviegoing experience. The groundbreaking 4K laser projection system, custom lenses, and proprietary technology ensure brighter images, increased resolution, deeper contrast, and the widest range of colors, exclusively available on IMAX screens.

NCG Cinemas, headquartered in Owosso, Michigan, has been dedicated to providing exceptional movie experiences since its establishment in 1985. With 26 theaters and 253 screens across nine states, including Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, New York, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida, NCG Cinemas continues to expand its footprint and deliver top-notch entertainment to audiences.

IMAX Corporation, known for its innovation in entertainment technology, combines proprietary software, architecture, and equipment to create immersive experiences that transport audiences beyond their seats. Filmmakers and studios worldwide recognize the value of IMAX systems in connecting with audiences in extraordinary ways, making IMAX a crucial theatrical distribution platform for major event films globally.

As of June 30, 2023, there were 1,718 IMAX systems operating in 87 countries and territories, solidifying IMAX’s global presence and influence in the industry. The company’s commitment to delivering the best possible movie experiences is evident through its continuous technological advancements and dedication to excellence.

With this new agreement, IMAX and NCG Cinemas are set to bring the magic of IMAX with Laser to even more moviegoers across the United States. Audiences can look forward to an unparalleled cinematic adventure, complete with breathtaking visuals and immersive sound, as they enjoy the latest blockbusters in these cutting-edge IMAX theatres.
