GE HealthCare Introduces AI-Driven Technology to Enhance Cardiac Care

GE HealthCare has announced the integration of Caption Guidance, an artificial intelligence (AI)-driven technology, into its Venue Family point-of-care ultrasound systems. This innovative technology provides real-time guidance to clinicians for capturing high-quality cardiac images, thereby enhancing cardiac care and reducing the burden on sonographers and radiology departments.

Caption Guidance, an optional add-on, offers step-by-step instructions to clinicians, even those who are not experts in ultrasound, for acquiring ultrasound images during cardiac assessments. This breakthrough technology addresses training and skill barriers, expanding ultrasound access and potentially enabling early detection of heart disease in at-risk patients. Early intervention can help improve clinical outcomes, slow disease progression, and potentially prevent hospitalizations.

Dietmar Seifriedsberger, Global General Manager, Point of Care and Handheld Ultrasound at GE HealthCare, highlighted the significance of AI software in increasing the number of clinicians who can confidently conduct cardiac ultrasound scans. This is particularly useful in emergency or critical care settings where accuracy and efficiency are crucial.

Karley Yoder, Chief Digital Officer, Ultrasound at GE HealthCare, expressed the company’s commitment to making an impact with this technology. GE HealthCare plans to expand the use of Caption Guidance to maternal, fetal, and pulmonary diseases, further expanding access to diagnostic care in various healthcare settings.

Caption Guidance is part of the Verisound suite of technologies, which brings together GE HealthCare’s existing ultrasound AI and digital workflow solutions. This unified platform aims to help clinicians work smarter and more efficiently, ultimately improving patient care.

GE HealthCare will showcase the Venue Family ultrasound systems featuring Caption Guidance, along with the new Vscan Air SL handheld, wireless ultrasound system, at upcoming medical conferences, including the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) Scientific Assembly and the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) Annual Meeting.
