Eight-Year-Old Ohio Virtual Academy Student Wins Imagination Creation Contest, Raises Funds for Akron Children’s Hospital

Ohio Virtual Academy (OHVA) student Dakota Moore, an eight-year-old third-grade student, has emerged as a winner of the Imagination Creation Contest held by Eastwood Mall in Niles, Ohio. The contest, open to children aged 6-14, required participants to design their dream playhouses. Moore’s unique igloo design caught the attention of the judges, leading to his victory.

Moore’s inspiration for his drawing came from his love for penguins, polar bears, and walruses. He also aimed to raise awareness about global warming through his artwork. “I had a lot of fun making my drawing, and I was thrilled when I found out I had been chosen as a winner,” said Moore. “It was so cool to see my igloo come to life, and I’m glad it will help the hospital care for children in need.”

The winning designs were transformed into real one-story playhouses by local contractors and displayed at Eastwood Mall over the summer. These playhouses were then auctioned off online, with Moore’s igloo playhouse starting the bidding at $5,500. The auction, along with the other playhouses, raised an impressive $165,000, which was donated to the Akron Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Kristin Stewart, head of school at OHVA, expressed her pride in Moore’s achievement and emphasized the importance of the elementary years in nurturing children’s passions. “We know his contribution will go a long way in supporting a great cause, benefiting his peers in communities across the state,” she said.

Ohio Virtual Academy (OHVA) is a tuition-free, online public charter school for students in grades K-12. As part of the Ohio public school system, OHVA offers families the choice to access the curriculum and tools provided by K12, a Stride Company. Stride aims to provide learners of all ages with a more effective way to learn and build skills for their future.

Moore’s success in the Imagination Creation Contest showcases the creativity and talent of students at OHVA, while also making a positive impact on the community through the funds raised for Akron Children’s Hospital.
