DirecTV Warns Warner Bros Discovery of Potential Contract Violation

Satellite TV provider DirecTV has issued a warning to Warner Bros Discovery regarding its newly launched CNN Max streaming service. DirecTV has expressed concerns that the streaming service may violate an existing contract between the two companies. The concern arises from the inclusion of several shows from CNN’s traditional cable channel on CNN Max. In a letter to Warner Bros Discovery executives, DirecTV highlighted the potential violation and sought clarification on the matter.

This dispute follows a recent resolution between Walt Disney Co and Charter Communications, which resulted in several channels, including ESPN, going dark on Charter’s cable service. DirecTV’s move indicates its intention to protect its contractual rights and ensure compliance with the agreement.

Warner Bros Discovery launched CNN Max in an effort to boost ratings and attract a younger audience. The company has been striving to increase subscriber engagement on its streaming platform. While DirecTV has not yet responded to requests for comment, Warner Bros Discovery stated that its partners are aware of and understand the rationale behind CNN Max, which aims to reach new audiences.

As the situation unfolds, both companies will likely engage in discussions to address the concerns raised by DirecTV and find a mutually agreeable resolution.
