Chip and Joanna Gaines announce they are developing a roller-dancing competition series for Max that will debut on the streamer in early 2024

Chip and Joanna Gaines are expanding their empire.

The couple – whose son Drake graduated from high school in May – has announced they are developing a roller dancing competition series for Max that is expected to roll onto the streamer in early 2024.

The new show is described as ‘the first ever nationwide roller dancing competition series’ and ‘a nostalgic, family-friendly competition featuring the top roller-skating crews in America.’

Though it is a deviation from the couple’s usual home improvement and lifestyle programming, the family-friendly nature of the competition is on brand for the Gaines.

It is the first show the prolific creators are developing specifically for Max.

‘Putting on a pair of roller skates is like reuniting with your childhood. There’s just something about it that appeals to everyone,’ Chip and Joanna Gaines said in a statement to Variety

‘Kids, adults and everyone in between will have fun watching these talented crews come together and skate their hearts out, and we are so excited to bring this nostalgic competition to life.’

The couple’s Magnolia Networks has confirmed that the competitors will be selected from qualifying rounds in Atlanta, Houston, Las Vegas, Nashville, New York and St. Louis.

The roller dancing teams will compete for a cash prize.

The series has not been given a name as of this writing.

And the whole idea isn’t as out of left field as it seems. Joanna loves to roller skate and has frequently  shared snaps on Instagram of her skating in the past.

She also elaborated on why she loves roller skating so much in the Summer 2022 issue of the Magnolia Journal.

‘Lately, my skates go wherever I go, she wrote. ‘Days when things feel heavy or hard, I lace them up and stroll around.
