WeightWatchers for Business Integrates Science-Proven Behavioral Program with Virtual Obesity Clinic and Medication Management

WeightWatchers for Business, a subsidiary of WeightWatchers (NASDAQ:WW), has announced the full integration of its science-proven behavioral program with its virtual obesity clinic and medication management. This integration allows the company to offer a comprehensive weight health platform designed for employers and health plans, providing individualized member pathways based on true clinical need.

With the prevalence of chronic diseases on the rise, organizations are facing higher costs, including a predicted 2-10% increase in insurance premiums in 2024. Factors such as increased utilization and cost of GLP-1 medications for weight loss and diabetes contribute to these rising costs. To help organizations navigate this landscape, WeightWatchers for Business is leveraging its 30+ years of science-backed expertise in the employer-sponsored healthcare space to provide a complete cost management and utilization strategy.

The platform includes preventing the progression and facilitating remission of weight-related conditions, as well as managing weight before, during, and after pharmacotherapy. WeightWatchers for Business utilizes evidence-based clinical pathways and step therapy with proprietary de-escalation protocols to drive clinically significant outcomes while controlling costs.

Kevin O’Brien, Senior Vice President of Commercial Growth and Customer Operations for WeightWatchers, highlighted the challenges faced by health plans, pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs), and their clients in managing the demand and costs associated with chronic weight management medications. WeightWatchers for Business aims to guide its partners in managing costs while providing long-term weight health solutions for their employees.

WeightWatchers’ virtual clinic members have achieved an average weight loss of 20.7% after 12 months, demonstrating the effectiveness of their program. Additionally, third-party validated ROI models show a 3.9x return on investment for employers implementing WeightWatchers’ full-spectrum program.

To further enhance its commitment to providing clinically-proven tools and interventions, WeightWatchers has appointed Dr. Amy Meister as Chief Medical Officer. With over 23 years of experience, Dr. Meister brings a strong background in population health management, care delivery best practices, and managed care services. She will lead access to global medical services across the business, ensuring the highest standard of care for WeightWatchers members and providing leadership across the complete health platform.

WeightWatchers CEO Sima Sistani expressed confidence in the company’s ability to address the challenge of obesity across all populations. By expanding weight health care access and equity of treatment, WeightWatchers aims to generate better health outcomes for all.
