United Airlines Set to Order 110 Aircraft from Boeing and Airbus

United Airlines is poised to make a significant aircraft purchase, with an order for 110 planes from both Boeing and Airbus, according to sources familiar with the matter. The order includes 50 widebody Boeing 787 Dreamliners and 60 A321 narrowbody jets from Airbus. While Airbus has not yet responded to requests for comment, both Boeing and United Airlines declined to comment on the matter.

This order comes as both aircraft manufacturers aim to meet their ambitious goals amidst a rebound in air travel and aircraft sales. Airbus has been producing highly sought-after single-aisle planes at an accelerated pace, outpacing its U.S. counterpart. United Airlines’ previous order for 100 Boeing 787 Dreamliners and 100 737 MAXs, announced last year, was intended to meet growing demand as pandemic restrictions eased and to replace older, less fuel-efficient aircraft.

The airline has expressed its intention to take delivery of approximately 700 jets by 2032, with an estimated cost of up to $50 billion, as per brokerage firm Jefferies. The surge in aircraft orders can be attributed to the booming travel demand and the increasing pressure on airlines to reduce emissions. Some analysts speculate that the recent shortage of new aircraft due to supply chain disruptions has prompted airlines to place large orders.

While the exact details of the Airbus order were not initially reported, this development underscores United Airlines’ commitment to expanding its fleet and modernizing its aircraft. As the aviation industry continues to recover, such investments are crucial for meeting growing passenger demands and achieving sustainability goals.
