Top republican slams FBI for ‘turning blind eye’ in Biden family probe

A Republican lawmaker has accused senior U.S. intelligence officials of abusing their power to quash stories about the disgraced first son’s laptop. Congressman Mike Turner, who represents Ohio in the House of Representatives and is the chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, said some of the country’s top spies wrongly branded reporting by the New York Post as the work of the Kremlin. The 2020 article broke the news that the 53-year-old appeared to be using his connections to his father to land lucrative business deals abroad. Turner was speaking to Fox News about a letter signed by 51 former intelligence officials signed to discredit the reports on Hunter’s leaked emails.

‘Joe Biden knew that he was lying to the American public, and he used these 51, who had past credentials in intelligence, to claim that something was Russian misinformation’ Turner said. ‘The head of the House’s intelligence committee said there had been ‘unexplained infusions of money into the Biden family that really has no cause and understanding. The FBI is — should be looking at these as evidences of a crime. But, in fact, that appears the FBI is being less than helpful, if not obscuring the congressional — obstructing the congressional investigation,’ he added. The 63-year-old has alleged that Secretary of State Antony Blinken, at the time serving as a Biden campaign adviser, helped to organize the intelligence officials’ public statement. Turner’s comments came Tim Burchett, a Republican Congressman from Tennessee, said GOP officials had been unable to ‘track down’ one of their key witnesses. 

Burchett said the FBI and DOJ have ‘turned a blind eye’ to both the missing informant and the Biden family’s alleged corruption. ‘It’s of the utmost importance that the FBI work with us to be able to try to identify what research they’ve done, what investigations they’ve done, because we have people that want to come forward, but honestly, they fear for their lives,’ he told Fox News. Burchett sits on the House of Representatives oversight committee, which is headed by James Comer (pictured), a Republican from Kentucky, and it is the elected body’s main investigatory panel. Comer has already opened an investigation that alleges as many as ten Biden family members benefitted from their connections to the commander-in-chief.

Biden’s business dealings have long irked members of the GOP, who accuse the president’s son of exploiting his family ties to land lucrative contracts abroad. An anonymous IRS whistleblower, via his lawyer, has said he is willing to testify he is also receiving preferential treatment in a federal investigation into his tax affairs. He has previously had business interests in China and Ukraine, although the long-time lobbyist denies any wrongdoing. The ex-Navy reservist, booted out of the military in 2014 for testing positive for [drug use], was in the spotlight again last week. He appeared on the president’s recent trip to Ireland, despite White House officials insisting he would not attend any official events. Since Joe Biden took office, the administration has insisted the president never speaks to his son about his business dealings and has no involvement in them.
