Sunrise’s Natalie Barr reveals what she really thinks of her new co-host Matt Shirvington

Sunrise presenter Natalie Barr has revealed what she really thinks of her new co-host Matt Shirvington.

The 55-year-old told The Sydney Morning Herald on Sunday, she has known Matt for years as they ‘would see each other at events and always got along’.

‘He’s the type of guy who just fits in. He is a really nice, normal guy with a daggy-dad sense of humour,’ she said.

Natalie went on to reveal how she deals with public scrutiny and said she doesn’t feel any extra pressure being the more experienced presenter.

‘I don’t mind a bit of scrutiny. Some people will like the way I do things, some won’t. If you can’t cope with that then I guess you shouldn’t be on TV,’ she explained.

Natalie said she turned the notifications off on Twitter and blocks any trolls who send her cruel messages on Instagram.

‘I think when you do a public job, it’s part and parcel. You can’t expect everyone to be writing glowing appraisals,’ she added.

Matt was announced as David Kochie’s replacement on Sunrise last month.

While Matt learns the ropes, Natalie has taken the lion’s share of hard-hitting interviews and has solidified her status as Australia’s queen of breakfast TV.

‘There are lots of prickly people in Australian media, but Nat’s proved you can make it to the top by being kind and loyal. She cares about everyone she works with.

‘Nat’s secret? She doesn’t fake it. There are no games. She loves her family, her job and good journalism.’
