Stanley Black & Decker Funds Innovative Badges to Inspire Girls in Trades

Stanley Black & Decker, a global leader in tools and outdoor powered equipment, has partnered with Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) to fund and develop badges focused on innovation. The new badges, announced by GSUSA, aim to inspire girls to consider careers in the trades and provide them with the necessary skills to excel in non-traditional fields.

The nine new Maker badges, part of the Life Skills program, offer age-appropriate hands-on activities for Girl Scout Daisies, Brownies, and Juniors. Through these badges, girls will develop innovative thinking skills, learn the importance of collaboration and teamwork, explore intellectual curiosity, and gain project management and development skills.

Stanley Black & Decker played a crucial role in advising GSUSA on the development of these badges, ensuring unique and engaging programming for the new badge program. The activities range from art and design to crafting and tinkering, encouraging girls to tap into their creativity and develop business skills.

According to research by Stanley Black & Decker, women currently make up only four percent of the workforce in the trades. By partnering with GSUSA, the company aims to shape the next generation of tradespeople and address the industry’s shortage of workers as older generations retire.
