SolarWinds Highlights Progress in Secure By Design Approach for Cybersecurity Awareness Month

SolarWinds, a leading provider of observability and IT management software, is celebrating Cybersecurity Awareness Month by emphasizing the software industry’s advancements in becoming more Secure By Design. The company’s Secure By Design initiative aims to establish a new standard in software supply chain security, informed by the expertise of cybersecurity experts.

Secure By Design was developed by SolarWinds to address the evolving threat landscape, including sophisticated cyberattacks by advanced nation-state threat actors. This approach focuses on creating secure environments and sets guiding principles that enhance software security and cyber resiliency.

Sudhakar Ramakrishna, CEO and President of SolarWinds, acknowledged the progress made in the journey towards a Secure By Design industry. He emphasized the need for collaboration and innovation within the cybersecurity community to build a more secure future for all.

SolarWinds has actively advocated for transparent information sharing and public-private partnerships to combat cyber threats. The company recently hosted a panel discussion in Washington, D.C., featuring Congressman Darrell Issa, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, and CISA Executive Assistant Director for Cybersecurity Eric Goldstein. The discussion highlighted the importance of stronger public-private partnerships in enhancing the security of the nation’s cyberinfrastructure.

SolarWinds will also participate in GovWare 2023, an event focused on fostering trust through collaboration in the new digital reality. This event brings together policymakers, tech innovators, and end-users to address the critical link between digital trust and success in cyberspace.

The SolarWinds Next-Generation Build System, a key component of the Secure By Design approach, leverages a parallel build process in multiple secure environments to make supply chain attacks more challenging to execute. This system aligns with industry frameworks like the Secure Software Development Framework (SSDF) and CISA’s Enduring Security Framework, encouraging more organizations to adopt a Secure By Design approach.

The Next-Generation Build System has received industry recognition, including the CSO50 Award for IT Infrastructure Monitoring and Management, the BIG Innovation Fortress Cyber Security Award, and acknowledgment from the Cloud Security Awards. SolarWinds’ Chief Information Security Officer and VP of Security, Tim Brown, was named CISO of the Year by the Globee Cybersecurity Awards for his leadership in developing the Next-Generation Build System.

Recognizing the need for a stronger cybersecurity workforce, SolarWinds supports additional resources for skill and vocational training. The company encourages software companies to allocate resources to support CISA and foster information-sharing between companies and government agencies. Collaboration across sectors is crucial to creating unified best practices and developing shared threat intelligence.

SolarWinds’ Secure By Design initiative reflects the company’s commitment to enhancing software supply chain security and contributing to a more secure software industry. For more information, visit SolarWinds’ Trust Center.
