Rubicon Expands Trash or Treasure Campaign to Promote Year-Round Waste Reduction

Rubicon Technologies, Inc. is taking its commitment to waste reduction to the next level with the expansion of its Trash or Treasure campaign. The program, which initially focused on reducing waste during Halloween, will now provide candy wrapper recycling boxes to schools, businesses, and community organizations all year long.

Since its launch in 2019, Rubicon’s Halloween waste reduction campaign has gained significant traction, diverting hundreds of thousands of candy wrappers from landfills and promoting the circular economy. Building on this success, the company is thrilled to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the program with a new name and an extended mission.

The Trash or Treasure program aims to tackle the challenge of candy wrapper waste, which often ends up in landfills, waterways, and oceans. By offering easy-to-assemble mail-back recycling boxes, Rubicon encourages schools, community organizations, and small businesses to collect and recycle used candy wrappers. The campaign’s long-time partner, UPS, will provide carbon-neutral shipping for the returned wrappers.

According to research from the National Retail Federation, over 600 million pounds of candy are consumed in the United States during the Halloween season each year. With the Trash or Treasure program, Rubicon aims to reduce the environmental impact of candy packaging materials by inspiring communities to recycle.

In addition to the Halloween campaign, Trash or Treasure will run throughout the year, with special initiatives planned for Valentine’s Day and other seasonal festivities in 2024. The program’s success relies on education, and Rubicon has collaborated with The National Wildlife Federation to create downloadable lesson plans, reading lists, and signage to help participants understand the value of recycling and its impact on the planet.

Rubicon is proud to have UPS as the official shipping partner for the Trash or Treasure campaign. UPS’s carbon-neutral shipping solutions have played a crucial role in the program’s positive environmental impact. The company is also excited to welcome Wood Partners as a commercial sponsor, further strengthening the campaign’s mission to divert waste from landfills.

To participate in the Trash or Treasure program, schools, independent businesses, and community organizations can order free recycling boxes or purchase them for personal use on the RUBICONMarketplace™.

Rubicon Technologies, Inc. is a leading provider of waste, recycling, and fleet operations products for businesses and governments worldwide. The company’s mission is to end waste and create more sustainable enterprises and communities.
