Principal Foundation and EVERFI Expand Data Science Curriculum with $50,000 Awards Program

Principal Foundation and EVERFI are proud to announce the expansion of their youth-focused data science program, DataSetGo, with the launch of the DataSetGo Distinguished Scholars program. This new national initiative aims to provide 10 students with a $5,000 award each, totaling $50,000, to support their exploration of post-secondary education and workforce opportunities.

Since its inception in 2022, DataSetGo has successfully reached over 17,500 high school students in more than 380 schools across the United States. The interactive digital curriculum equips students with essential data science skills that can be applied in various career paths and personal financial management.

Understanding the importance of data science fundamentals in today’s data-driven world, Principal Foundation and EVERFI are committed to empowering young individuals by fostering confidence, curiosity, and creativity. By expanding the DataSetGo program and introducing the DataSetGo Distinguished Scholars awards, students will have the opportunity to further develop their skills and build more secure futures.

To be eligible for the $5,000 award, students must participate in the DataSetGo program and submit a 300–500-word essay. The application period is open until April 30, 2024. The awards are designed to be flexible, allowing students to utilize them in a way that best supports their academic or lifestyle needs.

Ray Martinez, co-founder of EVERFI, emphasized the significance of preparing students for future careers while providing them with financial support for higher education. The collaboration between EVERFI and Principal Foundation aims to combine technology and education to equip students with data science fundamentals and critical financial knowledge.

Data science is a rapidly growing field, with career opportunities projected to increase by 35% from 2022 to 2032, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. DataSetGo’s expansion will enable the program to reach at least 70,000 U.S. students by 2025, with free access available in 11 cities.

Principal Foundation and EVERFI have been working together for over 11 years to provide students with essential financial education and data science skills. The DataSetGo program was initially launched as a pilot in 2021 and is currently running in 11 markets across the country.
