Novozymes Recognized as EPA Safer Choice Partner of the Year for Third Consecutive Year
Novozymes, the world’s leading biotech powerhouse, has once again been honored as the EPA Safer Choice Partner of the Year. This prestigious recognition by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) highlights Novozymes’ outstanding achievements in manufacturing ingredients that promote safer detergents for families, pets, workplaces, communities, and the environment.
The Safer Choice program, aimed at helping consumers and facility purchasers find products that are both effective and environmentally friendly, has selected Novozymes as one of the 30 Safer Choice Partner of the Year award winners for 2023. The company’s innovative approach to creating enzymes for safer detergents and its advocacy for the use of Safer Choice ingredients played a significant role in securing this recognition.
Arnaud Melin, the Vice President of Consumer Biosolutions, Americas, at Novozymes, expressed pride in receiving this accolade and reiterated the company’s commitment to developing best-in-class enzymes for household care products. Novozymes is dedicated to enabling biological detergents that do not compromise wash performance and cost, while also being safe for families, waterways, and the planet.
In line with its commitment to addressing climate change, Novozymes has taken significant steps to reduce carbon emissions. Last year, the company achieved a remarkable 63% reduction in CO2 emissions from operations compared to its 2018 baseline. Furthermore, 82% of Novozymes’ electricity was sourced from renewable sources. The company is actively working towards achieving net-zero carbon emissions across its entire supply chain by 2050, with its net-zero target validated by the Science Based Targets initiative.
Novozymes’ dedication to sustainability extends beyond its own products and operations. The company aims to educate and empower others, including commercial customers, partner organizations, and the general public, to explore and adopt sustainable solutions. By reducing the cleaning industry’s reliance on fossil-fuel-based surfactants and non-renewable chemistries, Novozymes aims to meet consumers’ cleaning performance and price expectations while minimizing environmental impact.
To qualify for the Safer Choice label, products must meet the EPA’s stringent Safer Choice Standard, which prioritizes human and environmental health. Currently, the Safer Choice program partners with approximately 350 formulator-manufacturer partners, offering nearly 2,000 Safer Choice-certified products for consumers and commercial buyers.
