Novavax Launches Choose to Protect™ Campaign to Educate Public About Importance of Updated COVID Vaccination this Fall

Novavax, Inc. has recently announced the launch of their Choose to Protect™ campaign in collaboration with HealthyWomen and actress Nicole Ari Parker. The campaign aims to educate the public about the importance of COVID vaccination and the different types of COVID vaccines available.

As a wife, mother, and daughter of elderly parents, Nicole Ari Parker understands the responsibility of protecting her loved ones. She emphasizes the significance of being informed and having conversations with healthcare providers to ensure the whole family is up to date on vaccinations. By choosing to protect ourselves and our loved ones, we can feel secure as we navigate our daily lives, whether it’s going to work, spending time with family and friends, or engaging in everyday activities.

To support the campaign, Novavax and HealthyWomen conducted a survey in partnership with The Harris Poll. The survey targeted vaccinated U.S. adults aged 45+ who play a crucial role in household healthcare decisions. The goal was to gain insights into perceptions, attitudes, and motivations related to COVID vaccination, as well as to identify any knowledge gaps regarding COVID vaccines.

Despite reports of COVID vaccine fatigue, the survey revealed that adults aged 45+ still recognize the value of vaccines. A significant portion of respondents felt a duty to get vaccinated for the sake of their loved ones and society as a whole. However, there were still gaps in knowledge, highlighting the need for further education and information dissemination.

Beth Battaglino, CEO of HealthyWomen, acknowledges the vital role women play as the chief medical officers of their families, especially those in the “sandwich generation” who are responsible for both children and elderly parents. She emphasizes that having access to well-tested and safe COVID vaccines has made it easier to protect loved ones from severe illness, hospitalization, and even death. Additionally, the updated vaccines can help guard against new and emerging variants.

Silvia Taylor, EVP and Chief Corporate Affairs and Advocacy Officer at Novavax, recognizes that COVID vaccine fatigue remains a significant obstacle in maintaining immunity and high vaccination rates. Together with their partners, Novavax encourages individuals to understand the importance of making a plan to protect their loved ones and to have conversations with healthcare providers about available vaccine options.

Dr. Jose Torradas, an Emergency Medicine Physician, emphasizes that vaccination remains a critical tool in safeguarding against COVID, particularly for the elderly and those with underlying health conditions. He advises individuals to discuss vaccine options with their healthcare providers and check if they are eligible to receive other vaccines, such as the flu shot, at the same time.
