Meta Platforms Considers Ad-Free Subscriptions for Instagram and Facebook in Europe

Meta Platforms, the parent company of Instagram and Facebook, is reportedly exploring the possibility of offering ad-free subscriptions to European users. According to a proposal submitted to regulators, Meta is considering a monthly fee of $14 for users who wish to access these social media platforms without personalized ads. The company aims to introduce its subscription plan, known as Subscription No Ads (SNA), in the coming months.

The proposal suggests that European users will have the choice to continue using Instagram and Facebook for free, with personalized ads, or opt for the ad-free version by paying the monthly subscription fee. Meta has informed regulators that the subscription fee for a Facebook or Instagram account on desktop would be approximately 10 euros ($10.46) per month, with an additional charge of roughly 6 euros for each linked account.

However, on mobile devices, the subscription price would increase to around 13 euros per month. This higher cost is due to Meta factoring in the commissions charged by Apple’s and Google’s app stores on in-app payments, as reported by the Wall Street Journal.

Meta’s move to explore ad-free subscriptions aligns with the growing trend of users seeking more control over their online experiences. By providing this option, Meta aims to cater to users who prefer an ad-free environment while also maintaining the availability of free access with personalized ads.

While the proposal is currently under review by regulators, Meta’s intention to offer ad-free subscriptions demonstrates the company’s commitment to providing users with greater choice and flexibility.
