KKR Invests $400 Million in OMS Group to Accelerate Southeast Asia’s Digital Infrastructure Growth

KKR, a global investment firm, has announced a significant investment of $400 million in OMS Group, a leading telecom infrastructure company and provider of subsea cable services. This strategic move by KKR further strengthens its presence in Southeast Asia’s digital infrastructure market and highlights the firm’s belief in the region’s growing internet economy.

OMS Group, founded in 1988, has established itself as a neutral provider of integrated solutions for subsea telecommunications cable services. With a remarkable track record spanning over three decades, the company has been a trusted partner for major subsea equipment providers, large-scale cloud service providers, and telecom companies. OMS Group is internationally recognized for its quality management system, making it one of the largest independent operators in the sector.

KKR’s investment will enable OMS Group to accelerate its growth by expanding its fleet size and capabilities. The funds will also be utilized to invest in cable landing stations and subsea cable routes, catering to the increasing demand for cross-border data transmission and comprehensive subsea cable services on a global scale.

Mr. Projesh Banerjea, Director of Infrastructure at KKR, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating that OMS Group has established itself as a market leader in Southeast Asia. He emphasized the importance of meeting the growing demand for connectivity in the region and highlighted the synergies between KKR’s recent digital infrastructure investments and the long-term trends driving the region’s digital economy.

OMS Group’s Chairman, Datuk Soon Foo Lim, shared his excitement about working with KKR and their shared vision for critical data infrastructure. He expressed confidence in KKR’s expertise and their ability to support OMS Group’s growth plans.

Mr. Ronnie Lim, Group CEO of OMS Group, emphasized the value of OMS Group’s capabilities in constructing and maintaining critical subsea data infrastructure. He highlighted the economic value that OMS Group brings to communities, corporations, and countries worldwide. With KKR’s strong track record in supporting and investing in data infrastructure assets, OMS Group is well-positioned to support its clients in building and maintaining global connectivity.

KKR’s investment in OMS Group aligns with its Asia infrastructure strategy and further expands its portfolio of digital infrastructure investments in Southeast Asia and globally. Previous investments in the region include Singtel’s regional data center platform and Pinnacle Towers, a digital infrastructure platform with a focus on the Philippines. Globally, KKR has invested in companies such as CyrusOne and Global Technical Realty, further solidifying its commitment to digital infrastructure.

The transaction is expected to be completed by Q1 of 2024, subject to customary closing conditions. Both KKR and OMS Group are optimistic about the future and the positive impact their collaboration will have on Southeast Asia’s digital infrastructure landscape.
