Key Foundry and Vishay Sign Foundry Agreement for Long-Term Production of Power MOSFETs, Expanding Supply of Automotive Semiconductors

Key Foundry, a leading 8-inch pure-play foundry in South Korea, has announced a significant milestone in its partnership with Vishay Intertechnology Inc. The two companies have signed a long-term supply agreement for multiple power MOSFET products, aimed at expanding the supply of automotive semiconductors.

Power MOSFETs are essential components in various electronic devices, known for their low loss, high-speed switching, and reliability during high-voltage, high-current operations. As per market research firm OMDIA, the power discrete market is projected to grow at a CAGR of 6% from $21.2 billion in 2022 to reach $28.4 billion by 2027.

Vishay Intertechnology is a global leader in the power discrete market, with its power semiconductors widely used in automotive DC-DC converters, battery management systems, HVAC control, LED lighting, and consumer and industrial products such as TVs, refrigerators, washing machines, and VR/AR devices.

The long-term foundry service agreement between Key Foundry and Vishay will enable mass production of power MOSFETs starting in 2024. Additionally, both companies are exploring opportunities for future product development.

This collaboration provides Vishay with a reliable source of foundry services for MOSFET production, addressing the current supply constraints for automotive and industrial customers. Joel Smejkal, President and CEO of Vishay, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating that it would help them expand their capacity and meet the growing demand for MOSFETs.

Derek D. Lee, CEO of Key Foundry, expressed his pleasure in collaborating with Vishay, highlighting that Key Foundry’s capabilities and proactive response were key factors in the decision to engage with them. He further emphasized Key Foundry’s commitment to improving process technologies and strengthening marketing, quality, and production capabilities to become a leading specialty foundry.

With this agreement, Key Foundry aims to increase its share of automotive semiconductor sales in the long term, positioning itself as a prominent player in the industry.
