House Speaker Kevin McCarthy BLOCKS ‘Squad’ member Rashida Tlaib from holding anti-Israel event at the Capitol

  • Palestinian-American Rep. Rashida Tlaib moved a planned anti-Israel event at the Capitol from the House to the Senate
  • May 15, 2023 marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of Israel
  • Tlaib has come under fire for sharing anti-semitic tropes and has invoked ‘Nakba’ which refers to the creation of Israel as a ‘catastrophe’

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy blocked an anti-Israel event that was being planned at the Capitol by pro-Palestinian ‘Squad’ member Rep. Rashida Tlaib.

Tlaib, the first member of Congress of Palestinian descent, came under fire earlier this week for helping host an event marking the ‘catastrophe’ of the creation of the Jewish State of Israel 75 years ago.

The progressive member, wrote in a tweet that ’75 years later, the Nakba continues to this day.’

Nakba refers to the creation of the establishment of a Jewish majority state in what was once Palestine. It alleges that the act was a form of ‘ethnic cleansing.’

The event, which was originally slated to be held Wednesday, would have ‘educated’ Congress and ‘uplift the experiences of Palestinians who underwent the Nakba.’

However, the pro-Israel House speaker shut it down the day before it was scheduled to occur.

‘This event in the US Capitol is canceled,’ McCarthy tweeted Tuesday evening, referring to Tlaib’s planned event.

‘Instead, I will host a bipartisan discussion to honor the 75th anniversary of the US-Israel relationship.’

Not to be deterred, Tlaib told CNN Wednesday that the event will be held in the Senate instead.

‘We’re having it on the Senate side. It’s on campus, it’s on Capitol Hill,’ she reportedly said.

McCarthy just returned from a congressional delegation trip to Israel, during which he re-affirmed the United State’s firm commitment to the state and addressed the Israeli parliament, the Knesset.

He also criticized President Joe Biden for failing to invite Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the White House.

Biden has made clear his opposition and said he had no immediate plans to offer the Israeli leader a White House visit.

His ambassador later watered that down to say the administration would ‘soon’ invite Netanyahu.

Tlaib came under fire from Republicans for the event, including Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel.

‘Rashida Tlaib, who has repeatedly used antisemitic tropes, is hosting an event to attack Israel with groups that defend terrorism and support the antisemitic BDS movement,’ McDaniel tweeted on Monday evening.
