Hyzon Motors Expands Market Access into Stationary Power Applications

Hyzon Motors Inc., a leading hydrogen fuel cell technology developer and global supplier of zero-emission heavy-duty fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs), has announced an amendment to its Intellectual Property (IP) agreement with affiliates of Horizon. This amendment further strengthens the collaboration between the two companies and provides Hyzon with expanded market access to stationary fuel cell power applications in North America.

The amendment allows Hyzon to tap into the growing market for stationary fuel cells, which provide a zero-emission alternative to diesel power generation units. With an estimated near-term $4+ billion total addressable market (TAM) for stationary generators in the United States by 2025 and a $35+ billion TAM globally by 2030, this expansion opens up significant opportunities for Hyzon.

Hyzon’s existing fuel cell IP, production technology, and manufacturing facilities will be utilized to commercialize stationary products, catering to various end-use applications such as data centers, the entertainment industry, battery electric vehicle charging, and remote industrial power needs. By leveraging its fuel cell systems’ high power output and low volume and cost attributes, Hyzon aims to strategically position itself in sectors that align with its long-term vision of creating a sustainable future.

Furthermore, the amendment includes the option for Hyzon and Horizon to jointly develop a single stack 300kW fuel cell system, which was previously announced as part of Hyzon’s product roadmap. Additionally, Hyzon retains rights to the data collected by Horizon across different fuel cell use cases, which is expected to accelerate both companies’ real-world learnings and optimize fuel cell electric vehicle performance and durability.

The amended IP agreement will remain in effect until September 2030, allowing both companies the flexibility to adapt to the evolving hydrogen ecosystem while building on their collaborative efforts. It also paves the way for Hyzon to enter the global stationary power market outside of North America in the future.

Parker Meeks, Chief Executive Officer of Hyzon, emphasized the importance of decarbonizing stationary power generation as part of the transition to clean energy solutions. He highlighted the vast potential applications for Hyzon’s zero-emissions fuel cell technology, ranging from providing emergency power to hospitals and data centers to replacing diesel generators in remote locations.

Hyzon Motors is a global supplier of high-power fuel cell technology, focused on integrating its solutions into zero-emission heavy-duty fuel cell electric vehicles. The company collaborates with partners across the hydrogen value chain to bring clean hydrogen to the market and support fuel cell vehicle deployments.
