Horror as giant marquee COLLAPSES in park injuring three people: One is rushed to hospital as witnesses describe hearing ‘man’s screams for help’

Three people have been injured after a large marquee collapsed in a park.
The 410ft-long, 165ft-wide structure was being dismantled by technicians when it came crashing down at about 9am today.
A witness described hearing a ‘man’s screams for help’ after the marquee ‘suddenly’ collapsed with a loud ‘bang’ in Southampton.
‘Several workers ran out of the way,’ the witness told the Daily Echo newspaper. ‘Then I saw a man lying on his side crying out and several people ran over.’
The temporary structure had featured at the Seawork-Marine Civil exhibition in Mayflower Park last week. The cause of the collapse is unclear but an investigation has now been launched.

A spokesman for South Central Ambulance Service added: ‘Two of those patients were treated and discharged at the scene and the third was taken to University Hospital Southampton for further treatment.’
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said it had been alerted to the incident at about 8.30am, with four crews being mobilised.
Firefighters provided immediate care to the casualties before they were handed over to paramedics.
A spokeswoman for the fire service added: ‘No persons were trapped beneath the structure, but three casualties did suffer minor injuries.’
The marquee, called Alu Hall, is owned by contractors Neptunus. The company has since launched an investigation into the incident.

‘It has been extensively and successfully used at hundreds of global events and exhibitions over the years.
‘Technicians were in the dismantling process when the collapse occurred. An investigation is now underway to determine the cause.’
The Health and Safety Executive has been informed of the incident.
