HONEYWELL ENGINE USING 100% SUSTAINABLE AVIATION FUEL SUCCESSFULLY TESTED ON EMBRAER BUSINESS JET

Honeywell and Embraer have achieved a significant milestone in sustainable aviation with the successful testing of Honeywell’s HTF7500 turbofan engine on the Praetor 600 aircraft using 100% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). This marks the first time that Honeywell’s business jet engines have flown with 100% SAF, opening up new possibilities for reducing carbon emissions in the aviation industry.

The test, conducted at Embraer’s campus in Melbourne, Florida, compared the performance of one engine running on 100% SAF with another using traditional jet fuel. The results were remarkable, as the HTF7500 engine performed flawlessly on both fuels, demonstrating that SAF is a viable and reliable alternative to traditional jet fuel. This breakthrough paves the way for a more sustainable future in aviation, as industry leaders like Embraer work towards meeting carbon reduction commitments.

Dave Marinick, President of Engines and Power Systems at Honeywell Aerospace, expressed his enthusiasm for collaborating with Embraer and creating a greener aviation industry. He highlighted the importance of this testing milestone, not only for Embraer but for the entire aviation sector. Honeywell is committed to developing SAF solutions and plans to incorporate these innovations into its own engines and auxiliary power units (APUs).

The HTF7500 engine powers both the Embraer Praetor 600 and Praetor 500 aircraft models, offering exceptional dispatch reliability, reduced noise levels, and improved fuel efficiency. Honeywell’s expertise in sustainable aviation fuel is evident, with over 40 Ecofining™ licenses issued to date for SAF production. Furthermore, approximately 60% of Honeywell’s new product research and development investment in 2022 was dedicated to ESG-oriented outcomes, emphasizing the company’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

Honeywell Aerospace is a global leader in providing products and services for commercial, defense, and space aircraft. Their comprehensive range of offerings includes aircraft engines, cockpit and cabin electronics, wireless connectivity systems, and mechanical components. By leveraging their hardware and software solutions, Honeywell enables more fuel-efficient aircraft, on-time flights, and safer skies and airports.

Embraer’s Praetor 500 and Praetor 600 jets are at the forefront of aviation technology. The Praetor 500 has surpassed certification goals, achieving an impressive intercontinental range of 3,340 nautical miles (6,186 km) with four passengers and NBAA IFR Reserves. It holds the title of the farthest- and fastest-flying midsize jet, capable of nonstop flights across North America. On the other hand, the Praetor 600 is the world’s farthest-flying super-midsize jet, capable of nonstop flights from Paris to New York or São Paulo to Miami, covering an intercontinental range of 4,018 nautical miles (7,441 km) with four passengers and NBAA IFR Reserves.

Honeywell’s collaboration with Embraer in testing the HTF7500 engine with 100% SAF is a significant step towards a greener aviation industry. By demonstrating the viability of sustainable aviation fuel, both companies are contributing to the reduction of carbon emissions and the creation of a more sustainable future for aviation. With their commitment to innovation and environmental stewardship, Honeywell and Embraer are leading the way in revolutionizing the aviation industry.
