Emmerdale: Caleb rages at his son Nicky after he was revealed as his attacker

Caleb raged at his son Nicky after he was revealed as his attacker as he woke up in hospital and remembered everything on Wednesday night’s Emmerdale

Caleb was left in a coma after he was pushed off a cliff and left for dead as the village tried to uncover the villain – but Nicky admitted to it on Tuesday while he was bedside with his unconscious father.

Recent episodes have seen the entire village turn against Caleb, as he called out his family in a Western-style scene in the Woolpack.

In a big whodunnit, Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley), Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb), Leyla Harding (Roxy Shahidi) and Will Taylor (Dean Andrews) were all potential suspects, with police working hard to uncover the villain.

But as soon as Caleb came off the ventilator he was keen to let Nicky know he knew it was him after remembering the incident.

After waking up he said: ‘It’s a shock someone hated me enough to kill me!’

Nicky (Lewis Cope) then tried to leave the hospital after staying there all night when Caleb firmly said: ‘No, sit down, there’s stuff that we need to talk about.

‘You can stop pretending that you care. I remember exactly what happened and it was you that pushed me. You could be facing an attempted murder charge.’

‘I suppose you thought you could get away with it! You left me there to die!’

He retorted: ‘I am guilty but you’re not exactly aren’t you. You wouldn’t actually tell the police on me would you dad?’

A flashback of the wood scene then played as Caleb fell as Nicky watched his body fall to the ground.

Nicky had tried to blame it on Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb), but Caleb saw right through him.

Previously in the episode Nicky had looked relieved when doctor said ‘he probably won’t remember much anyway’.

Later Nicky returned to his bedside as Caleb said: ‘Oh you’re back? Did you want to put a pillow over my head?

‘I can pin this on you or Mackenzie so if you see the police coming for you then you will know I chose you.’

The episode then ended on a cliffhanger as viewers will have to wait to see what Caleb decides to do.

In a shocking turn of events, Nicky confessed at his father Caleb’s hospital bedside on Tuesday’s episode.

In an interview room, police told Mack the charge could be changed from attempted murder to murder as Caleb’s condition deteriorated, before the scene switched to Nicky telling his unconscious father: ‘I thought I’d killed you’.

As the end credits rolled, fans were delighted that they had already rumbled who the attacker was, before Nicky’s confession.

One wrote: ‘I knew it was Nicky! I don’t blame him tbh the way Caleb treated him was shocking’.

Another added: ‘Knew it was Tricky Nicky’.

A third viewer said: ‘And that’s it for tonight-see you all tomorrow for more now that the Quickest whodunnit in soap history has ended!’

Nicky recently fled the village after confessing his sexuality to his fiancée Gabby.

And he is not yet on the police’s radar, so the question is, will he let innocent Mack take the fall for the attack?

Of the storyline, Lewis, who plays Nicky, told The Express: ‘The reason we [want to] get revenge is so that we could look after my mum.

‘So he [Caleb] just lied to me all the way through and it was only at that point that I realised and found out that information.

‘So I then follow him into the woods and I think it just a spur of the moment… I think he has been backed into a corner and he feels betrayed and hurt and something just comes over him and he just makes a decision and anger gets the better of him.’

Elsewhere on Tuesday’s show, Chas was upset when she overheared recently returned Paddy and Mandy announcing their relationship to Bear.

When alone, Mandy made her moves on Paddy but she’s left deflated when he makes excuses.

The next day, Mandy and Paddy felt the pressure of the village’s eyes on their relationship, and when Mandy asks him to stay the night, Paddy detered her with excuses.

Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
