Cohen & Steers Announces Preliminary Assets Under Management and Net Flows For September 2023

Cohen & Steers, Inc., a renowned global investment manager specializing in real assets and alternative income, recently announced its preliminary assets under management (AUM) for September 2023. Despite a slight decrease in AUM, the company continues to demonstrate its strength and resilience in the market.

As of September 30, 2023, Cohen & Steers reported total AUM of $75.2 billion, representing a decrease of $4.9 billion from the previous month. This decline can be attributed to market depreciation of $4.3 billion, net outflows of $290 million, and distributions of $283 million. While these factors have impacted the overall AUM, it is important to note that Cohen & Steers remains a formidable player in the industry.

Breaking down the AUM by investment vehicle, the company’s institutional accounts showcased a total AUM of $31.2 billion. Despite experiencing a decrease of $2.0 billion due to market depreciation and other factors, Cohen & Steers’ advisory services maintained a strong presence with an AUM of $17.9 billion. The Japan Subadvisory and Subadvisory excluding Japan also contributed significantly to the institutional accounts, with AUMs of $8.1 billion and $5.2 billion respectively.

In addition to institutional accounts, Cohen & Steers’ open-end funds and closed-end funds also played a crucial role in its AUM. The open-end funds reported an AUM of $33.7 billion, while the closed-end funds accounted for $10.3 billion. Despite minor fluctuations, these investment vehicles continue to contribute to the company’s overall success.

Cohen & Steers’ commitment to providing diverse investment options is evident in its focus on real estate, preferred securities, infrastructure, resource equities, commodities, and multi-strategy solutions. With a history dating back to 1986, the firm has established its headquarters in New York City and expanded its presence globally with offices in London, Dublin, Hong Kong, Tokyo, and Singapore.

While the recent decrease in AUM may raise some eyebrows, it is essential to view it in the context of market conditions and the company’s overall performance. Cohen & Steers remains a trusted partner for investors seeking exposure to real assets and alternative income.
