Amprius Technologies Advances Battery Technology for Extended Flight Range and Payload Capacity in eVTOLs

By leveraging Amprius’ innovative battery technology, eVTOL manufacturers can now extend flight ranges by up to 50% while improving payload capacity.

One of the primary challenges in developing eVTOLs is finding batteries that meet the rigorous power and energy requirements. Amprius’ advanced material system expertise has enabled the creation of a 400 Wh/kg cell with an impressive continuous discharge rate of 10C. This breakthrough cell provides unmatched propulsion power and energy, ensuring optimal performance during takeoff, cruise, and landing.

Moreover, Amprius’ ultra-high-power cell features ultra-fast charging (UFC) capabilities, allowing it to reach 80% charge in six minutes or less. This swift charging capability facilitates expanded flight operations with shorter turnaround times, further enhancing the efficiency and viability of eVTOLs.

The purchase agreement is contingent upon the successful qualification of sample custom cells, which are expected to be delivered later this year. Once qualified, the eVTOL manufacturer will receive an increased number of custom samples in early 2024 for integration into their demonstrator aircraft. Amprius also anticipates engaging in discussions for a long-term volume purchase agreement to support the eVTOL manufacturer’s pre-production units in 2025 and beyond.
