A\u00a0summer resurgence in Covid cases has prompted some GP surgeries\u00a0to bring back face mask rules for patients \u2014 weeks after a new variant was spotted.<\/span><\/p>\n One practice in Leicester last week reinstated the\u00a0guidance, urging people to mask-up, as a\u00a0‘precautionary measure’ to protect vulnerable patients.<\/p>\n Another in Essex cautioned that an ‘increasing number of patients and staff with Covid’ had prompted the move.\u00a0<\/p>\n A spike in infections across the country has seen Covid hospitalisations in England hit a five-month high.\u00a0<\/p>\n Health officials yesterday confirmed that a total of 42 cases of the super-mutated Pirola Covid variant have now been detected in the UK, up from 36 last week.\u00a0<\/p>\n
