The history-making concert was a phenomenon during the first leg of its US run, and the UK and European leg of the tour is due to kick off on 9 May 2024 in Paris and wrap up on 17 August 2024 in London.

Fans across the UK and Europe will now be able to see the incredible tour experience on the big screen at the same time as fans in the US, Canada and Mexico, before the tour itself reaches the continent.

The ticket release in the U.S, Canada and Mexico set a new record at ODEON’s parent company AMC as it made $26 million in ticket-sales revenue.

ODEON are expecting similarly high demand for this cinematic experience.

The tour, in which Taylor runs through hits from her 17-year career, is on track to make a projected gross of $2.2 billion in North American ticket sales alone,’ TIME previously reported.

According to TIME, industry analysts said that the performer’s lucrative tour should surpass $1 billion in revenue by March of 2024, when she is slated to be overseas.

The numbers would make it the most-profitable tour ever, surpassing the $939m Elton John made on his The Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, according to the outlet.

Taylor’s career continues to soar, but in her private life she is reportedly been hanging out with Kansas City tight end, Travis Kelce.

They have apparently  been spending time together under the radar for months before they were spotted together in public for the first time on Sunday.

The pop superstar supported the sports start as his team beat the Chicago Bears, and afterward the enjoyed an ‘affectionate’ dinner together, but that was reportedly just their most high-profile get-together so far.

Sources with direct knowledge of the couple claimed to TMZ on Monday that the two have hung out together ‘several times’ over the past few months.

It’s not clear exactly when the two began seeing each other in person, but Travis had revealed on his New Heights podcast in July that he had hoped to introduce himself to Taylor when he attended one of her Eras Tour stops.

‘I wanted to give Taylor Swift [a bracelet] with my number on it,’ the tight end shared, but he learned that the singer’s devotion to putting on the best performance possible made it impossible to chat with her.

‘I was disappointed that she doesn’t talk before or after her shows because she has to save her voice for the 44 songs that she sings, so I was a little butt-hurt I didn’t get to hand her one of the bracelets I made for her,’ he said.

Taylor amped up the budding courtship at Sunday’s game when she arrived alone — aside from her usual bodyguards — to cheer on Travis from a box.

However, the sources explained to the outlet that the Lavender Haze singer’s earlier meetings with the NFL star were in a ‘very private setting’ so as to not attract attention.

It appears that she’s moving toward a more open relationship with Travis now, though the sources also stressed that the two are not ‘officially’ dating, even though things are clearly heating up between them.

Another sign that Taylor the Kansas City Chiefs star are growing closer was that she met his parents at Sunday’s game.

The hitmaker could be seen cheering on Travis while standing next to his mother Donna, and Travis’ father Ed was also in attendance.

Meeting parents for the first time is often stressful, but the sources shared that the first meeting went ‘very well,’ and Taylor seems to have particularly won over Donna, who called her a ‘lovely person.’

Although she has now met Travis’ parents, Taylor has yet to meet his brother Jason Kelce, who plays for the Philadelphia Eagles and co-hosts the New Heights podcast with his sibling.

Although Taylor and Travis appeared to keep the PDA to a minimum while heading to the Prime Social Rooftop in Kansas City after the game on Sunday, eyewitnesses spotted them holding hands once they were inside the restaurant.

The PDA escalated when Taylor reportedly sat on the football players lap at one point.

The dinner was only somewhat private, as Travis’ family, including his mother Donna, also showed up, and some of his teammates dropped by as well.

An eyewitness previously told Entertainment Tonight that it was Travis who had bought out the restaurant for the afterparty.

Taylor arrived, wearing a denim dress, and was seen snacking, having some cocktails and dancing alongside Travis,’ they said.

Another diner told ET that restaurant staff told them there would be a ‘hard close’ at 8 p.m., and the wait staff handed out to-go boxes ahead of the deadline while letting them know that they would need to leave the premises before that time.

However, they were offered free drinks at the restaurant’s sister venue to cut down on the inconvenience.

Although some of the patrons apparently asked if the closure was related to Travis and Taylor, the staff reportedly were stiff-lipped.

Travis Barker joined Blink-182 as they resumed the European leg of their tour in Antwerp, Belgium on Friday.

Last week, the drummer, 47, had rushed back to Los Angeles to be with his pregnant wife, Kourtney Kardashian, 44, as she had undergone emergency surgery.

The musician and his rock band postponed three concerts in Glasgow, Belfast, and Dublin due to ‘an urgent family matter’.

It was revealed that the reality TV personality had experienced a pregnancy complication and undergone ‘urgent fetal surgery’ to save their unborn baby causing him to abruptly put a halt to his band’s tour to return home.

After the operation went successfully, he took to Instagram to share several posts of himself back in Europe ahead of taking the stage with the rest of his band to perform their greatest hits.

Before his show in Antwerp, he posted a video of himself walking outside the concert venue to give his drumsticks to a fan.

The ecstatic fan was seen holding up a sign that read: ‘Can I have a drumstick?’

After seeing the sign himself, Travis surprised the fan — who ended up crying tears of joy after the thoughtful gesture.

At the end of the video, Travis gave him a hug before heading back inside to get ready for the show.

He captioned the moving clip: ‘1st day of tour’. Travis had also shared various snaps as he went sightseeing around Antwerp before their show.

Travis took along his 8.3 million followers on Instagram for a tour of various incredible churches.

He also shared a picture of a bowl of pasta he enjoyed at Italian restaurant Spritz ahead of the concert.

Before heading to the concert venue, he also posted a mirror selfie showing off his edgy cool outfit of the day.

A few days earlier on Wednesday, he shared a post on X (formerly known as Twitter) and confirmed that Blink-182 would be resuming the European leg of their tour.

He wrote: ‘God is great. I flew home for a life-threatening emergency surgery for our baby that I’m so grateful went well.’

‘I want to say thank you for all the support,’ he continued. ‘Tour resumes Friday.’

On the same day, Kourtney praised doctors for ‘saving her baby’s life’ after being rushed to the hospital during the final trimester of pregnancy.

Kourtney — who is said to be ‘feeling better’ — took to Instagram to share a black and white snap of she and her musician husband holding hands on a hospital bed.

She captioned the image to her 224 million followers: ‘I will be forever grateful to my incredible doctors for saving our baby’s life.

‘I am eternally grateful to my husband who rushed to my side from tour to be with me in the hospital and take care of me afterwards, my rock. And to my mom, thank you for holding my hand through this.’

Kourtney also revealed that despite previously experiencing pregnancy complications, she still wasn’t ready for what had happened.

The mother-of-three continued: ‘As someone who has had three really easy pregnancies in the past, I wasn’t prepared for the fear of rushing into urgent fetal surgery.

‘I don’t think anyone who hasn’t been through a similar situation can begin to understand that feeling of fear. I have a whole new understanding and respect for the mamas who have had to fight for their babies while pregnant.

This came after news that Kourtney is doing ‘better’ and has now returned home following a short hospital visit.

An insider told People the reality star is ‘back home now with her kids’ after she was pictured departing a Los Angeles-area hospital with her husband.

‘She is feeling better. She is happy to have Travis back home too,’ the source added.

The following day, Kourtney, who went public with her pregnancy in June, was seen leaving the hospital with Travis and clambering into an SUV.

‘Praise be to God. Walking out of the hospital with my baby boy in my tummy and safe was the truest blessing.’

What is fetal surgery?

Fetal surgery is a procedure performed on an unborn baby (fetus) in the uterus (in utero) to help improve the long-term outcome of children with specific birth defects. Because these defects often worsen as a fetus develops, fetal surgery done by a team of experts focuses on treating and improving the conditions before birth.

Comprehensive health centers that have fetal surgery expertise and experience can treat many birth defects in utero, including:

  •  Bronchopulmonary sequestration of the lung
  •  Congenital cystic adenomatoid malformation (CCAM) of the lung
  • Congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH)
  • Congenital high airway obstruction syndrome (CHAOS)
  • Lower urinary tract obstruction (LUTO)
  • Sacrococcygeal teratoma (SCT)
  • Spina bifida (myelomeningocele)
  • Twin anemia-polycythemia sequence (TAPS)
  • Twin reversed arterial perfusion (TRAP) sequence
  • Twin-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS)

 Why is it done?

Before a baby is born, early intervention using fetal surgery can treat life-threatening birth defects and improve outcomes in some cases. For example, if a baby has been diagnosed before birth with spina bifida, surgeons might perform open fetal surgery or a less invasive procedure using a fetoscope.

Neither Travis nor Kourtney has disclosed why they were at the hospital, but based on the appearance of her bump as she left, she did not appear to have given birth.

Kourtney was seen walking unassisted as she and her husband surfaced on Friday, piling into a gleaming black Range Rover and heading off.

The reality star, who has not publicly divulged her due date, was decked out in a silver maternity top and matching trousers.

On Friday, Blink-182 announced via Insta Stories that they would have to delay their upcoming concerts on account of Travis’ family emergency.

‘Due to an urgent family matter, Travis has had to return home to the States,’ the band revealed on social media. ‘The Glasgow, Belfast, and Dublin shows are being postponed. More information in regards to his return to Europe and rescheduled dates will be provided as soon as available.’

The Blink-182 tour in Europe was meant to commence Friday night in Glasgow, which is where Travis was when the announcement was made.

Travis then fired up his own social media and cryptically posted pictures of the prayer room at the Glasgow Airport.

Just last week, he and his pregnant wife had been spotted soaking up the sunshine together during a romantic stroll on the beach.

As Travis raced home to Kourtney, his ex-wife Shanna Moakler confirmed that the children she herself shares with him are ‘safe and sound.’

Shanna and Travis welcomed Landon, 19, and Alabama, 17, together, and Travis was also crucial in helping raise Shanna’s daughter Atiana De La Hoya, 24, whom she had with the former professional boxer Oscar De La Hoya.

Meanwhile Kourtney shares three children – Mason, 13, Penelope, 11, and Reign, eight – with her ex-fiancé Scott Disick, whom she dated on and off for nearly a decade.

Kourtney ecstatically revealed to the world in June that she is expecting a baby by Travis, whom she tied the knot with last year.

She dropped the bombshell during a Blink-182 concert, standing in the audience and holding up a sign that read: ‘TRAVIS I’M PREGNANT’ – a mischievous nod to a similar scene in the music video for the band’s song All The Small Things.

Her breathtaking news came over a year after Kourtney pulled the brakes on her IVF journey, which had subjected her to a raft of health issues including depression.

On a 2022 episode of her reality show The Kardashians, Kourtney spoke candidly about the ‘awful’ experience she was having with IVF.

She claimed in a confessional that the ‘medication that they have been giving me, they put me into menopause, literally into menopause.’

Kourtney theorized: ‘I think because I’m so clean and careful about what I put into my body, it’s just like having the complete opposite reaction and working as a contraceptive instead of helping us.’

She explained: ‘I have everything in the world to be happy about. I just feel a little bit off and not like myself. Super moody and hormonal, like I am a lunatic half the time.’

In December of that year, a few months after her wedding, she told the Wall Street Journal that she had stopped her IVF treatments 10 months earlier.

Kourtney, who tied the knot with Travis that May, shared that she ‘took a break to just focus on our wedding and getting married.’

On a subsequently aired episode of The Kardashians, she said: ‘We would love a baby more than anything but I just really believe in what God has in store for us.’

She also spilled that she had ‘seven frozen eggs from years ago before Travis’ – a step she had taken when she was nearing the age of 40.

‘When I was 38 or 39 everyone was like pushing me to do that and most of mine didn’t survive the thaw because eggs are one cell and none of them made it to an embryo,’ the eldest Kardashian sister said.

‘All the thing that came with IVF took a toll on me physically. My health is still impacted because it’s hormones. And also mentally it took a toll,’ she said.

‘So, I think just being happy is most important and being a good parent to my kids. We are just embracing that whatever is meant to be will be.’

Beyonce left out Lizzo‘s name from lyrics of her remixed version of Break My Soul amid claims the singer sexually harassed three dancers.

The Crazy In Love singer, 41, has been performing Break My Soul (The Queens Remix) on her Renaissance tour, in which she ists off a number of boundary-breaking Black female artists.

Yet during her performing in Boston, Massachusetts on Tuesday night, Lizzo’s name was left out of her performance.

The show came hours after news that Lizzo, 35, is being sued by three of her former dancers for alleged sexual harassment and creating a hostile work environment.

The lyric mentioning Lizzo goes: ‘Betty Davis, Solange Knowles / [Erykah Badu], Lizzo, Kelly Rowl’ (You know you can do it)’

Omitted: Beyonce left out Lizzo's name from lyrics of a remixed version of Break My Soul while performing in Boston, Massachusetts on Tuesday night

Shocking: It comes hours after news that Lizzo, 35, is being sued by three of her former dancers for alleged sexual harassment and creating a hostile work environment

Omitted: Beyonce (left) omitted Lizzo’s name from lyrics of a remixed version of Break My Soul while performing in Boston, Massachusetts on Tuesday night. It comes hours after Lizzo, 35, was accused of sexual harassment and body shaming by three of her former dancers

But in concert footage shared to Twitter, Beyonce purposely replaces Lizzo’s name with four repetitions of ‘Badu.’

Lizzo — whose real name is Melissa Viviane Jefferson — faces a legal battle after her ex backup dancers alleged she commented on their weight and pressured one to touch a nude performer in a strip club.

The plaintiffs — her former dancers — are named in the lawsuit as Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams, and Noelle Rodriguez. Williams and Davis both appeared on the recent Amazon Prime reality show ‘Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls’ – about the singer’s quest to find backup dancers.

It accused the famous singer of ‘inviting cast members to take turns touching the nude performers,’ inside an Amsterdam strip club, the suit states.

She allegedly encouraged ‘catching dildos launched from the performers’ vaginas, and eating bananas protruding from the performers’ vaginas.’

The About Damn Time singer is known for her gregarious body positivity, but the lawsuit paints her in a much different light.

Ron Zambrano, the women’s lawyer, said in the suit, revealed first by NBC News: ‘The stunning nature of how Lizzo and her management team treated their performers seems to go against everything Lizzo stands for publicly.

‘While privately she weight-shames her dancers and demeans them in ways that are not only illegal but absolutely demoralizing.’

Lizzo is not the only named defendant in the case, which was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Tuesday.

Her dance captain, Shirlene Quigley, is also facing a slew of accusations.

Quigley, according to the lawsuit, shared ‘lewd sexual fantasies,’ and publicly discussed the virginity of one of the plaintiffs while berating those who had had pre-marital sex.

The complaints for all damages include: Hostile work environment, sexual harassment, religious harassment, racial harassment, disability discrimination, and failure to prevent or remedy the harassment.

Lizzo is specifically accused of disability discrimination, creating a hostile work environment, sexual harassment, and failing to stop said issues.

Her touring company Big Grrrl Big Touring Inc. is also named as a defendant.

Inside the Amsterdam strip joint, Lizzo allegedly ‘turned her attention to Ms. Davis and began pressuring Ms. Davis to touch the breasts of one of the nude women.’

Davis refused multiple times, while the popstar allegedly chanted louder and louder to encourage her to do the act, the lawsuit claimed. Davis eventually did touch the performer.

‘Plaintiffs were aghast with how little regard Lizzo showed for the bodily autonomy of her employees and those around her, especially in the presence of many people whom she employed,’ the filing read.

In another instance, the plaintiffs claim Lizzo invited the dancers to a club in Paris – but failed to mention that it was a nude cabaret bar. This ‘shocked’ the dancers, who said Lizzo ‘robbed them of the choice not to participate,’ the suit said.

Lizzo also allegedly made a claim the dancers were drinking before performances, which Williams then spoke out about. The popstar allegedly made the group go through an ‘excruciating’ 12-hour rehearsal.

Williams lost her job days after, the lawsuit claimed.

Arianna Davis - one of the plaintiffs who filed the lawsuit against Lizzo. In one instance noted in the lawsuit, Davis soiled her pants during an intense rehearsal because she was so fearful she'd lose her job. She was then handed a see-through outfit with no undergarments to finish the performance, the suit said

Davis, meanwhile, soiled her pants during the intense rehearsal because she was so fearful she’d lose her job, the documents state. She was then handed a see-through outfit with no undergarments to finish the performance, the suit said.

Rodriguez complained to a manager about the decision to publicly fire Williams, after Lizzo had told the group she had ‘eyes and ears everywhere.’

Davis recorded the meeting on April 27, because she claimed she suffers from an eye condition that leaves her disoriented.

But as a result, Lizzo held a meeting and had security confiscate dancers’ phones, the lawsuit claimed.

‘Lizzo became furious, hurling expletives at the group and stated that she was going to go around the room, person-by-person until someone told Lizzo who made the recording,’ the filing contended.

When Davis tried to tell Lizzo and Quigley she meant no harm recording the meeting, they berated her and Lizzo fired her on the spot, the suit read.

Rodriguez then expressed how she felt disrespected and threatened to resign – to which Lizzo said she was ‘lucky.’

When Rodriguez did indeed quit, Lizzo showed her two middle fingers and yelled a slur at her, the lawsuit claimed.

Lizzo has yet to respond to the lawsuit.

Erykah Badu has accused Beyonce of ripping off her style with her outlandish Renaissance World Tour outfits.

Legendary singer Badu, 52, who is known for breaking style boundaries, took to Instagram on Monday to slam Beyonce, 41, for donning an oversized chrome hat which was similar to one worn by Badu onstage.

Sharing Beyonce’s post, which showed the superstar bowing her head in the hat, paired with camouflage boots and a glittery IV sports jersey, Badu wrote: ‘Hmmm’.

She then shared a post of herself in a near-identical hat and wrote: ‘I guess I’m everybody stylist.’

Badu first garnered style kudos upon breaking out on the late 90s music scene for her chameleon-like adaptations of traditional African dress.

This comes after Badu was performing in Atlanta when she professed her crush for Star Wars actor John Boyega.

The singer was taking a break between songs during the performance, when she started discussing her crush on the 31-year-old London-born actor, who is in the running to play chef Levi Roots in a biopic.

‘If anybody ever see John Boyega, tell that n***a I said hi,’ Badu said to the crowd, adding, ‘There’s a lot of people in the audience, that’s why I wanted to say that cause there’s enough of y’all for one of y’all to get the message to the man, right,’ she joked.

She went on to add that the actor was, ‘Fine,’ before asking someone in the audience how old he is.

‘He under 30? Hell yeah, that’s what I’m talking about. Nuts still tough, you know what I’m saying? That’s what I be looking for,’ she added.

She then broke into her hit 1977 song Tyrone when Boyega came out on stage to surprise her.

‘It’s good to see you,’ Boyega told the singer, who exclaimed, ”It’s John Boyega!’  after giving the actor a hug on stage.

Badu said, ‘I’m at work, I gotta work,’ she told the actor, as her backup singers continued the song, adding, ‘Call him,’ perhaps as a message to the singer herself.

‘But I can multitask,’ Badu said as she continued the song with Boyega, as they continued a flirty exchange on stage as she went back to work.

She later told Boyega, ‘I’m gonna go back to the bus later on, after the show, of course. I gotta finish this, then we gonna go back to the bus, is that all right?’

The actor agreed and gave her a kiss on the cheek as she told him, ‘They’ll give you the key, you can roll one for me,’ she said, before freaking out in front of the audience.

‘Make sure you roll one up for me. Thank you,’ she said, as Boyega left the stage.

The performance was part of the singer’s Unfollow Me Tour, which wraps up in September in London.

1923

by Ned Boulting (Bloomsbury £18.99, 288pp)

The Tour de France is the biggest annual sporting event in the entire world. It is also the most exhausting, with 150-200km stages, often up some impossibly steep mountains.

But 100 years ago, the stages were far longer — usually well over 400km. The racers also had to start long before dawn, often not finishing until midnight; there were only two gears; and they could be fined for not being ‘properly dressed’.

It was truly a different world — and it is into this arena that obsessive Ned Boulting, the veteran cycling commentator, rightly regarded as the ‘voice of cycling’, takes us in this compelling book, part detective story, part history, and always an overwhelming paean of admiration for the best cyclists of the Tour in all their flawed courage and glory.

In autumn 2020, Boulting was marooned by the pandemic, forced to commentate on cycling from his home. Alerted by a friend, he bought a length of Pathe film of an unknown Tour from a London auction house.

The two-and-a-half-minute film shows a handful of crisp black-and-white sequences from what turns out to be the 1923 Tour.

The central character in Boulting's spellbinding book is not the obnoxious Pelissier, but the solitary figure on the bridge in the film fragment. He was a Belgian rider, Theophile Beeckman (pictured right)

The central character in Boulting’s spellbinding book is not the obnoxious Pelissier, but the solitary figure on the bridge in the film fragment. He was a Belgian rider, Theophile Beeckman (pictured right)

It starts with a hand-drawn map of a route from Brest to Les Sables-d’Olonne on the west coast — Stage 4 of that Tour, a savage 256 miles from start to finish.

Boulting can see some riders leaving a control point (to prevent cheating, riders had to check in every 50 miles or so); then the peloton makes its way along the road to Vannes, before an unknown cyclist launches a solitary attack to move to the front over a bridge.

But what happened in the race? And who was the unknown man making the breakaway, and why so early in the race when he would almost certainly be caught?

It turns out that the race was won by a Frenchman, Henri Pelissier, a controversial and obstreperous rider, who broke the seven-year streak of Belgian winners, either side of World War I.

He was also known for one of the most famous Tour de France incidents of all, more notorious in some ways than the doping scandal of Lance Armstrong decades later.

The year after his win, the hugely celebrated Pelissier, along with his brother Francis, walked away from the race in fury at the regulations imposed on them by the organisers. All riders had been ordered to finish with the same clothing and kit they had started with: in other words, they weren’t allowed to jettison punctured inner tubes or unwanted jerseys in the heat of the day.

The cyclists held a press conference in a nearby cafe and emptied out their kit bags to the journalists. The pharmaceuticals included cocaine and chloroform. ‘We ride on dynamite,’ Pelissier said, determined to impress on the audience the inhumanity of the event.

They were forced to take all these dangerous substances, he said, simply to survive the ordeal.

The race continued without the rebels, though there was a growing national scandal. Pelissier, who retired a few years later, was not a likeable man. He was brutal, drunken and unfaithful; his first wife shot herself with a pistol he kept in the house. His lover then moved in — but after a savage beating, she grabbed the gun and shot Pelissier dead.

However, the central character in Boulting’s spellbinding book is not the obnoxious Pelissier, but the solitary figure on the bridge in the film fragment. He was a Belgian rider, Theophile Beeckman, who won a couple of stages in his career but is little remembered — until now.

He was born in 1896 in Ninove, East Flanders, half an hour west of Brussels. After his riding career finished he set up as a mechanic, opened a garage and died at 59 in 1955. He was known for his tenacity, modesty and resilience.

One of the joys of this exhilarating book is following Boulting as he plunges deeper into umpteen rabbit holes exploring his fragment of film. The race is set against the seething politics and rancorous aftermath of World War I.

In spring and early summer of 1923, French and Belgian troops had pushed into the Ruhr valley and transported much of Germany’s mineral and industrial output out of the country, leading to increasing nationalism within Germany.

On the day of Stage 4, as the peloton was setting off in the chilly small hours, a Belgian military troop train was blown up by German activists, with great loss of life.

It followed ever-escalating tension and bloodshed. A few weeks earlier in Munich, a radical politician was addressing a crowd of thousands. His name was Adolf Hitler. The leader of the Nazi Party was later thrown into prison: it was there that he started work on Mein Kampf . . .

In Paris, Ernest Hemingway, a great fan of cycling, was about to have his first book published. He later said he had tried to write about bike racing, but nothing he could say could ever come anywhere near the experience of the real thing.

But thanks to Boulting’s captivating book, we can understand a bit of what it is the cyclists had to do.

Madonna‘s grueling preparation for her epic 80-show world tour may have left her vulnerable to falling ill, doctors warned today after news broke that the 64-year-old icon was hospitalized with a ‘serious bacterial infection’.

The legendary hitmaker — whose chart-topping career has spanned four decades — is expected to make a ‘full recovery’ after being intubated in intensive care.

Details over the exact cause of the ‘Material Girl’ singer’s health scare have yet to be released by her family, who were left ‘preparing for the worst’.

They claimed the star believes she is ‘invincible’ and has ‘been wearing herself thin’ over the past few months to ensure her upcoming five-month tour of the US, Britain, Canada and Europe went perfectly.

Doctors today said it was possible Madonna’s punishing preparations — thought to involve rehearsing and exercising six days a week — may have worn her immune system down and left her vulnerable to infection. Any stress she may have faced due to the tour also ‘doesn’t help the picture’, they added.

The 64-year-old popstar's terrifying health scare was shared with the world by her longtime manager Guy Oseary, who revealed on Instagram that Madonna has been forced to postpone her hotly-anticipated 40th anniversary tour as a result of her medical struggles

Madonna had to be ‘rushed to the ICU and intubated’ on Saturday after developing a  bacterial infection that resulted in a days-long hospital stay. She is seen in a June 20 Instagram photo

Dr Thomas Moore, an infectious diseases expert at the University of Kansas, said it was possible that exhaustion had weakened her immune system

Bacterial infections are usually mild, with their symptoms clearing naturally or with the added punch of antibiotics.

Yet they can pose a much more serious threat to those with a weakened immune system.

Dr Thomas Moore, an infectious diseases expert at the University of Kansas, said it was possible the singer was run down.

‘Exhaustion, certainly when you are run down, can be an issue,’ he said. ‘It is generally true that if you are very run down and not getting enough rest your immune system can be challenged.’

Madonna’s exercise routine may have actually worked against her, he said.

‘A vigorous workout [or lifestyle] is not inherently dangerous as long as you take care of yourself,’ Dr Moore added.

‘But say your immune system is challenged [by a bacteria], if you have been working too hard this makes it more difficult for it to respond and insults arise.’

Madonna’s partying lifestyle has also likely not helped matters, Dr Moore added.

‘Your body is designed to be taken care of, and with this it can do amazing things and achieve physical feats,’ he said.

‘But when you start to abuse your body with drugs or alcohol or stay awake for long periods when your brain wants you to go sleep, these can have an indirect effect on its ability to fight a viral infection.’

Exhaustion raises inflammation and stress levels in the body, which can suppress the number and function of immune cells making them less able to tackle infections.

Poor sleep also has an impact, leading to a decline in the number of immune cells in the body because it has less time to manufacture new ones.

Dr Stuart Fischer, an emergency doctor in New York City, said it was possible that stress had also weakened her immune defenses.

He said: ‘Any stress due to the concert doesn’t help the picture.

‘Stress is immunosuppressive. Her stress is from going on tour and fans waiting to see her. This could have an impact.’

Madonna's manager added that the singer (seen on June 20) has been forced to postpone the start of her 40th Anniversary Celebration tour, which was slated to begin on July 15 in Canada

Madonna’s manager added that the singer (seen on June 20) has been forced to postpone the start of her 40th Anniversary Celebration tour, which was slated to begin on July 15 in Canada

The 64-year-old pop icon’s manager Guy Oseary confirmed the news in an Instagram post on Wednesday, revealing that the star was still ‘under medical care’

It was also suggested that Madonna’s age, at 64 years, could also have been involved.

Dr Moore said: ‘As you age your immune cell function… begins to decline,’ he said. ‘The immune system also becomes less nimble.’

Both doctors wished Madonna well with her recovery, saying ‘thank goodness she is out of the woods’ and congratulating her for bringing generations happiness with her music.

WHAT IS SEPSIS?

Sepsis, known as the ‘silent killer’, strikes when an infection such as blood poisoning sparks a violent immune response in which the body attacks its own organs.

It is the leading cause of avoidable death, killing at least 44,000 a year, and the Daily Mail has long campaigned for more awareness.

If caught early, the infection can be controlled by antibiotics before the body goes into overdrive – ultimately leading to death within a matter of minutes.

But the early symptoms of sepsis can be easily confused with more mild conditions, meaning it can be difficult to diagnose.

Sepsis has similar symptoms to flu, gastroenteritis and a chest infection.

These include:

  • Slurred speech or confusion
  • Extreme shivering or muscle pain
  • Passing no urine in a day
  • Severe breathlessness
  • It feels like you are dying
  • Skin mottled or discolored

Symptoms in children are:

  • Fast breathing
  • Fits or convulsions
  • Mottled, bluish or pale skin
  • Rashes that do not fade when pressed
  • Lethargy
  • Feeling abnormally cold

Madonna is well-known for her ‘punishing’ fitness regime, which sees her exercise six times a week with a personal trainer to maintain her ‘dancer’s physique’.

The singer, who is known for being a perfectionist, has also had a six-day working week since April to gear up for her shows, those close to the star revealed.

Lee Mitchell, a personal trainer at www.jogger.co.uk, told MailOnline that Madonna’s intense exercise routine may have contributed to her unspecified illness.

He noted that her workout plan — which includes strength training, cardio exercises and Pilates — can ‘yield positive results when appropriately managed’.

But he cautioned that ‘it is crucial to strike a balance between pushing physical limits and allowing for adequate recovery’.

Mr Mitchell said: ‘Intense exercise can temporarily suppress the immune system due to various factors, such as increased stress hormones, elevated levels of inflammation and oxidative stress.

‘Pushing the body beyond its limits may lead to physical exhaustion, compromised immune function, hormonal imbalances and increased susceptibility to infections.’

He noted that it is ‘challenging to definitively attribute her health situation to her extreme exercise routine alone’.

Mr Mitchell added: ‘It is possible that other factors — such as her overall health, immune system, stress levels or lifestyle choices — may have contributed to her current condition.

‘It serves as a reminder that even highly trained individuals should listen to their bodies, prioritize recovery and seek professional guidance to ensure long-term health and wellbeing.’

One of Madonna’s family members has told DailyMail.com that the shocking collapse was a wake-up call for Madonna, who believes she is ‘invincible’ and has been pushing herself extremely hard to prepare for the tour.

They said: ‘She has not been living as healthy a life as she should be for her age, and she has been wearing herself thin over the past couple of months.

‘She thinks that she is still young when, in fact, she is not. She also believes that she is invincible.’

It is currently unclear exactly what infection or complications the Michigan-born singer is suffering from.

But bacterial infections can affect various parts of the body, including the skin, lungs and blood.

While most bacteria are harmless, some can enter the body through an opening in the skin — such as a cut, insect bite or surgical wound. Others get into the body via the airways, eating contaminated food or through sex.

Antibiotics, which can come in pill, liquid, cream or IV form, are used to treat such infections.

While most cases are mild, some untreated bacterial infections can lead to serious complications, such as sepsis.

It occurs when the immune system, which helps fight off infections, overreacts to an infection and starts attacking the body’s tissues and organs.

Professor Robert Read, chair of infectious diseases at the University of Southampton, told DailyMail.com that being under psychosocial stress increases the risk of sepsis and its severity. However, he noted that it is not fully understood why this is the case.

Surgery can be another trigger of bacterial infections.

Madonna seemed to admit to undergoing cosmetic surgery this year after she looked almost unrecognizable while presenting an award at the 2023 Grammy’s in February.

Leading plastic surgeons said at the time that she may have had ‘excessive filler’, Botox, a facelift and nose job, as her skin appeared ‘tight and pulled back’.

Later that month, the singer posted a picture of herself on Twitter stating that her ‘swelling from surgery has gone down’.

It is unclear if she has undergone any further cosmetic procedures.

But any surgery that breaks the skin can lead to an infection, usually within 30 days of an operation.

They are usually caused by bacteria infecting the wound through touch from a contaminated medic or surgical instrument or germs in the air or already on the body that spread to the wound.

The singer is also famed for her intense partying lifestyle and has been pictured in nightclubs and parties and was previously hailed as the ‘nightlife queen’ in the 1990s.

Decades of drinking alcohol are known to hamper health.

One recent study by Oxford University researchers found that drinking alcohol can increase the risk of developing 60 ailments, including infections.

Madonna’s health scare was shared with the world by her long-time manager Guy Oseary, who revealed on Instagram that Madonna has been forced to postpone her hotly-anticipated 40th-anniversary tour as a result of her medical struggles.

Oseary insisted in his post that the singer is ‘expected to make a full recovery’ and that her ‘health is improving’, but added that she is ‘still under medical care’.

While Madonna used to play tours featuring around 40 shows earlier in her career, she has upped her commitments in recent years and has performed twice as many.

On her most recent Madame X tour, Madonna performed 75 dates from September 2019 until March 2020 and put her ‘blood, sweat and tears’ into the performances.

Jose Extravaganza, a dancer who used to work with Madonna, told how the star had been exercising ‘a lot’ ahead of the tour.

He told DailyMail.com: ‘I think she’s exercising a lot. I mean, the rehearsals. Rehearsals are six days a week from what I hear, you know, like the only day off is Sunday.’

Mr Extravaganza also revealed how Madonna had planned to incorporate her love of boxing and fitness into her concerts by bringing martial arts into her upcoming shows, showing how important fitness is in the star’s life.

The star was previously forced to cancel more than a dozen shows during her 2019 and 2020 The Madame X Tour after injuring her coccyx on stage.

She wrote on Instagram at the time: ‘If only knees didn’t twist and cartilage didn’t tear and nothing hurt and tears never fell out of our eyes.

‘But alas they do and thank god for this important reminder that we are human.’

Madonna was left on crutches for ten months following the injury and operation she underwent and other ‘physical challenges’, she said at the time.

As the Covid pandemic put the final nail in her tour’s coffin, Madonna decided to undergo knee surgery in April 2020 followed by hip surgery in November 2020 as well as ‘regenerative treatment for missing cartilage’.

The US Senate has asked Yasir Al-Rumayyan, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund governor, to appear before it on July 11 alongside PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan and LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman.

It comes after the bombshell deal was struck earlier in June for PGA Tour to merge with its fierce rival LIV, bringing an end to the civil war that was derailing the game.

But Congress opened a probe into the deal following its announcement.

‘Fans, the players, and concerned citizens have many questions about the planned agreement between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf,’ read a letter to Al-Rumayyan.

‘To assist the Subcommittee’s review, please be prepared to discuss the circumstances and terms of the planned agreement between PGA Tour and the PIF, how any new entities formed through the planned agreement will be structured, the expected impact on PGA Tour and LIV Golf players, and the anticipated role of the PIF in U.S. professional golf.’

The letter sets a deadline of June 28 for a response.

On June 14, Monahan stepped away from his duties as PGA Tour Commissioner for an unspecified medical issue.

A joint statement from Monahan and the Tour’s policy board read: ‘Jay Monahan informed the PGA TOUR Policy Board that he is recuperating from a medical situation.

‘The Board fully supports Jay and appreciates everyone respecting his privacy. During Jay’s absence, Ron Price, Chief Operating Officer, and Tyler Dennis, Executive Vice President & President, PGA TOUR, will lead the day-to-day operations of the PGA TOUR with the assistance of the great team Jay has built, ensuring seamless continuity. We will provide further updates as appropriate.’

Monahan, 53, spent nearly two months working on the deal with two PGA Tour board members, investment banker Jimmy Dunne and New York attorney Ed Herlihy, without any players’ knowledge.

Almost all of them said they were shocked. Some even said they felt betrayed.

The deal came nearly a year after Monahan made pointed remarks about LIV Golf’s source of funding, particularly as it related to any Saudi connection to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

The merger will see the likes of Rory McIlroy of the PGA Tour and LIV's Brooks Koepka compete regularly against each other once again

The merger will see the likes of Rory McIlroy of the PGA Tour and LIV’s Brooks Koepka compete regularly against each other once again

‘I recognize that people are going to call me a hypocrite,’ Monahan said in a Zoom call after the merger was announced.

‘Anytime I said anything, I said it with the information that I had at that moment, and I said it based on someone that’s trying to compete for the PGA Tour and our players.

‘I accept those criticisms. But circumstances do change. I think that in looking at the big picture and looking at it this way, that´s what got us to this point.’

SENATE LETTER IN FULL

Dear Mr. al-Rumayyan:

REVEALED: PGA Tour chief Jay Monahan wrote to Senators telling them that Congress left the traditional circuit ‘on our own’ – forcing him to agree to controversial LIV merger

  • Jay Monahan said PGA Tour met with ‘several members of Congress’ recently
  • He says the Tour isn’t merging with the PIF, rather they’ll control a new entity
  • DailyMail.com provides all the latest international sports news

PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan attempted to calm the nerves of those in Congress who are investigating the traditional circuit’s deal with the Saudi Public Investment Fund while saying this was partially their doing.

He blamed congressional inaction for the decision to join forces with LIV Golf but did not specifically say what help was required from lawmakers.

In a letter first obtained by Politico, Monahan explained that leaders of pro golf’s top circuit had reached out to and met with members of Congress last year – when the war between LIV Golf and the PGA Tour was at its peak.

Days after Monahan sent this letter, Senate Investigations subcommittee chair Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) announced a probe into the proposed deal.

‘During this intense battle, we met with several Members of Congress and policy experts to discuss the PIF’s attempt to take over the game of golf in the United States, and suggested ways that Congress could support us in these efforts,’ Monahan said in the letter.

‘While we are grateful for the written declarations of support we received from certain members, we were largely left on our own to fend off the attacks, ostensibly due to the United States’ complex geopolitical alliance with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.’

‘This left the very real prospect of another decade of expensive and distracting litigation and the PGA TOUR’s long-term existence under threat.

‘The difficult negotiations we have undertaken with the Saudis and the agreement in principle we have reached will accomplish important goals that protect the game and the important work of the PGA TOUR in the United States.

‘Rather than a foreign funded entity taking over an American sport, the end result is that the PIF has agreed to work within the existing golf ecosystem as a minority investor with the PGA TOUR in full control.

‘The PGA TOUR is, and will remain, an American institution dedicated to its players and generating charity in the communities where we play.’

In addition to this, Monahan made sure to stress that, ‘despite numerous reports, this arrangement is not a merger between the PGA Tour, LIV Golf, and the PIF’.

Monahan said that this new company will be a subsidiary of the PGA Tour and that the Tour ‘will at all times hold the majority of the board seats and be in control of this new company, regardless of the size of PIF’s investment’.

The letter also said that the PIF would be a minority investor in the entity, ‘while the PGA will be the majority equity investor’.

Monahan insists the Tour is not merging with the PIF, rather they are forming a separate entity and that the PGA Tour will be a majority owner and hold most of the seats on the board

Monahan insists the Tour is not merging with the PIF, rather they are forming a separate entity and that the PGA Tour will be a majority owner and hold most of the seats on the board

This seems to differ slightly from the initial announcement – which said the PIF ‘will initially be the exclusive investor in the new entity’ alongside the three tours and that the PIF ‘will have the exclusive right to further invest in the new entity, including a right of first refusal’.

Senator Blumenthal asked for relevant documents and information to be shared by June 26 in letters sent to Monahan and LIV commissioner Greg Norman.

He noted in both letters that the announcement last Tuesday marked ‘a sudden and and drastic reversal of position’ from the PGA Tour towards LIV Golf which raised ‘serious questions’.

The PGA Tour operates as a tax-exempt organization, while the PIF and LIV lured multiple PGA veterans with guaranteed contracts over $200million.

The gray areas in the merger appear to be significant from a legal and operational perspective. Monahan said the PGA will continue to ‘operate as its own entity,’ but Saudi Arabia’s PIF and governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan would hold a seat on the Tour board.

Blumenthal sent letters to Monahan (L) & Greg Norman (R) requesting documents by June 26

A key motive for the alliance is dissolving existing litigation between the rivals, which likely would end the discovery phase of any trial either side faced.

However, the US Department of Justice is in the midst of an investigation of the PGA Tour’s alleged monopolistic business practices and discovery could be possible in the US Senate’s Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations review that was just launched to study the out-of-nowhere pact.

This agreement is a bi-partisan issue that seemingly both Democrats and Republicans agree could pose problems.

Last summer, Congressman Chip Roy (R-TX) asked United States attorney general Merrick Garland to investigate whether the Saudi-backed league violated law by failing to register as a foreign agent of Saudi Arabia.

While the wizarding headquarters doesn’t feature at London’s Harry Potter studio tour (perhaps it’s under a giant invisibility cloak), it looks set to be a showstopping highlight in Japan.

Images reveal the sheer size of the full-scale set, which was one of the largest ever created for the Harry Potter films, spanning over 900 square metres, flanked by 30ft- (9m) tall walls and containing 30,000 tiles.

‘Each tile would be painted with six different colours before being lacquered to give the impression of a ceramic tile,’ the studio said. ‘It was a time-consuming process that took filmmakers 22 weeks to complete.

‘The set was so large that hundreds of extras were needed to play Ministry employees during large crowd scenes.

‘Many of the people you see on-screen are crewmembers in costume.

‘With the design inspired by Victorian architecture, this set was so intricate to create that the hours needed to build one of this size and complexity would take a single person working non-stop over 20 years to complete.

‘Just like a Ministry of Magic employee commuting to work via the Floo Network, visitors can step into one of the enormous fireplaces each standing over nine-feet [three metres] tall and pose for photos and videos as smoke and lighting effects mimic the magical cloud of floo powder all around them.’

Fans will witness the ministry dressed for its appearance in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part One when Harry, Ron and Hermione take on the identities of ministry workers in order to break in.

The set, said to be Daniel Radcliffe’s all-time favourite from his time filming the Harry Potter series, was made in the UK by original filmmakers before being carefully transported to Tokyo, where it will open to the public when the studio tour lets in visitors for the first time on June 16.

Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo will be the largest indoor Harry Potter attraction in the world following the success of Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – the Making of Harry Potter, which opened in 2012.

The new tour will feature other ‘exclusive’ sets that were also made in the UK by original filmmakers and transported to Tokyo.

For instance, the attraction will be home to a set of the Great Hall from Hogwarts Castle. Of this set, the studio said: ‘Production designer Stuart Craig took influences from traditional British architecture, with the stone-paved floors, elongated windows, and wood-panelled walls inspired by Christ Church College at the University of Oxford.

‘Despite real-world influences, visitors will enjoy all kinds of magic that took place in the Great Hall, from the enchanted ceiling full of floating candles initially achieved using real flames before being replaced with visual effects, to the feasts that were freshly cooked for Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, but then changed to cast resin models for the later films.’

A Diagon Alley set will also feature at the Tokyo attraction and include shops such as Gringotts Wizarding Bank and the Magical Menagerie.

Fans at the Tokyo studio will also be able to step onto Platform 9 and three quarters and experience the Hogwarts Express, which transports students to the school of witchcraft and wizardry in the Harry Potter world.

Torben Jensen, vice president and general manager at the Tokyo studio, said: ‘We’re so excited to reveal our first exclusive set, the Ministry of Magic.

Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo will be the only place in the world where fans can step foot into the full-scale set just as Harry, Ron and Hermione would have done.’
