Former Philadelphia Eagles star Tim Tebow is reportedly being considered for the Florida House of Representatives.

Republican sources say they are reaching out to the Heisman Trophy winner after current Florida Rep. Ander Crenshaw announced his surprise plans to retire at the end of the year.

Tebow has not directly said he wants to have a career in politics since being released from his Eagles contract last September.

But he did hint that he would like to be in a position to ‘make a difference’ during a recent interview.

‘We do not pick favorites,’ a key party strategist told the Washington Examiner, but ‘obviously a huge Florida football star would be an interesting candidate for our side of the aisle.’

A Republican source said that that the football star could ‘hit the ground running’ if her was to go for the upcoming August 30 primary.

Tebow, 28, is popular in his home state of Florida where he played high school football before spending four years at the University of Florida where he claimed the 2007 Heisman Trophy.

He was also named a first-team All-American in 2007 and 2008.

The former quarterback is also a devout Christian and would even get down on one knee and pray on the field in a move dubbed ‘Tebowing.’

Since the rumors emerged that Tebow was being considered to represent Florida’s 4th Congressional District, a conservative website has come out as backing the former quarterback as ‘the perfect fit’.

Red Alert Politics praised his work with children through the Tim Tebow Foundation in their push for Tebow as Florida representative.

They also welcomed his popularity and the 28-year-old’s  ‘millennial appeal’ which they claimed could attract younger Republican voters.

‘Talks have circled around a sheriff, a state senator, and a mayor,’ the editors wrote. ‘But politicos have left off the best choice in this district: Tim Tebow.’

‘If you think we’re joking, we’re not,’ they add, listing a series of personal traits and accomplishments they say have Tebow well-positioned to run.

Tebow played three years in the NFL, beginning with the Denver Broncos after being drafted as starting quarterback. He played 11 games with the team including their AFC West title win in 2011.

He also had brief stints with the New York Jets, New England Patriots, and his final team, the Philadelphia Eagles last year.

Brian Walsh, a GOP strategist, warned that simply being a successful NFL player did not qualify someone for the House of Representatives.

But he said that Tebow’s popularity and ‘strong values’ meant he would be a good potential candidate.

‘Like his career with the Denver Broncos, the primary game is going be extremely competitive so Tebow may have to once again come from behind late in the 4th quarter in order to pull this off,’ he told the Examiner.

‘If he were to become the Republican nominee, he would be a shoo-in because it is a safe Republican seat,’ added communications strategist Ron Bonjean.

Sharleen was joined by fellow guest Emma Bunton who agreed with Simon. happily telling Sharleen she too loved to dance in the rain at festivals.

Sharleen hit back: ‘You enjoy dancing in the rain from the side of the stage,’ hinting the Spice Girl would likely have backstage passes under cover and not be out in the crowd with everyone else.

Tim also caused chaos as he began choking and uncontrollable coughing during numerous intervals in the show.

Only for Tim to reply: ‘No I’m not’.

Mystery band The ChurnUps are billed to perform at 6.15pm on the Friday of the Glastonbury  festival, playing on the Pyramid Stage before Royal Blood.

Fans were quick to assume the secret act is Britpop veterans Pulp because they are nowhere to be seen on the lineup despite their appearance being anticipated.

But many are now theorising that The ChurnUps is Foo Fighters, after the band teased numerous clues that it could be them.

Secret Glasto tweeted: ‘We’ve got another confession to make, you’d certainly be FOOlish to miss The ChurnUps.’

One Twitter user responded to the cryptic tweet: ‘The Foo Fighters?’ to which the band responded with a GIF of Jim Carey spitting out water and quipping: ‘Oh come on.’

The tweet comes after Dave Grohl teased fans with a message that mentioned ‘churning up’ emotions, shared on Foo Fighters’ Instagram page and also The Churnups official Twitter account.

On June 6th he shared a note, which read: ‘Hey, it’s been a while. Now that we’ve returned from our first run of shows, I felt compelled to reach out and thank you all for being there for us.

Tim Tszyu retains WBO interim super-welterweight title as Aussie turns in the performance of his career by smashing tough Mexican Carlos Ocampo to bits in stunning first-round knockout

Tim Tszyu’s unified world title remains intact after the son of a gun retained his WBO interim super-welterweight title with a spectacular victory over Mexican Carlos Ocampo.

Risking it all, Tszyu produced an extraordinary display of firepower to successfully defend the belt he claimed with a savage ninth-round stoppage of American Tony Harrison in Sydney in March.

A self-confessed ‘obsessed’ Tszyu knocked Ocampo out in barely a minute in a ferocious performance at the Gold Coast Convention Centre to send a chilling warning to undisputed world champion Jermell Charlo.

In 77 seconds of mayhem, Tszyu first knocked down Ocampo with a big right before finishing the South American with a brutal left hook that reduced the vanquished to tears.

Tszyu was last month ordered to fight Charlo before October 1 for the WBA, WBC, WBO and IBF belts after the pair’s scheduled January 29 showdown was postponed at Christmas when the American broke two bones in his right hand.

That blockbuster bout would have been canned had Tszyu lost to Ocampo, 22 days after needing emergency surgery for a nasty dog bite to his right forearm.

Typically, though, Tszyu once again rose to the occasion to confirm his date with destiny against Charlo with the most astonishing performance of his career, extending his undefeated record to 23 wins from 23 fights with a 17th KO.

‘I’ve got a question,’ Tszyu said, seemingly irritated by continually living in his father’s shadow.

‘What’s my mother-f***ing name?

‘There’s no doubt I’m going to America, that’s the land I want to conquer.

‘I’m not satisfied with his interim belt – I want all four and I want the name Charlo on my resume.

‘I did it quicker than your boy mate, so let’s dance in October.

‘I copped a lot of different adversities, so it was about getting the job done.

‘I didn’t think it would be that early because this guy is a warrior. I am coming back with four belts.’

Miyu Kato reveals she will APPEAL her ‘unjust’ disqualification for hitting a ball girl in French Open women’s doubles, as Japanese star bounces back to win the mixed doubles final

  • Kato and Puetz were crowned the 2023 Roland Garros mixed doubles champions
  • The win comes four days after Kato was disqualified from the women’s doubles
  • Kato confirmed she is appealing the disqualification so she can get her points

Miyu Kato has confirmed she is appealing her disqualification from the women’s doubles so that she can get the ‘points and prize money she deserves’.

Kato and Tim Puetz were crowned the 2023 Roland Garros mixed doubles champions after beating Bianca Andreescu and Michael Venus on Thursday.

The 4-6, 6-4, [10-6] win over Andreescu and Venus saw Kato pick up her first Grand Slam titles just four days after she was disqualified from the women’s doubles.

Kato used her post-match interview to announce she would be appealing her ‘unjust’ disqualification from the women’s doubles.

During her women’s doubles match alongside Sutjiadi, Kato fired a cross-court shot towards the ball girl between points, striking her on the shoulder.

The young girl looked visibly distressed by the incident. As a result, the umpire gave the Japanese star a warning.

However, a protest by opponents Marie Bouzkova and Sara Sorribes Tormo led to the match being abandoned with Kato and her Indonesian partner Sutjiadi disqualified.

Kato was heartbroken by the decision and broke down in tears after umpire Alexandre Juge confirmed the decision.

However, Kato announced she would be appealing the decision after she beat Andreescu and Venus in the mixed doubles on Thursday.

She said: ‘My English is not so good so I was writing this last night. Thank you to everyone in the tournament and to all of the sponsors.

‘Congratulations to my opponents Bianca and Michael, it was great match. To my partner Tim, I am so glad I have you as a partner.

‘Thank you so for always supporting me and cheering me up. To my coach, thank you for always being with me when I am having a hard time.

‘It has been really challenging for me mentally over the past few days due to the unjust disqualification from the women’s doubles.

‘I want to thank everyone from the players to the coaches for their messages of heartfelt support. I was able to use all of their positive energy to move forwards.

‘Thanks to my female doubles partner, her team and the young fans. I was unfortunate that we were disqualified but I am doing my best so that we are return and one day claim the women’s doubles final.

‘I hope the ball girl is okay. To my opponents, I hope we can play each other again somewhere and have a great match.

‘Lastly, to the Roland Garros, it’s a shame about the disqualification and the decision but I am looking for a positive outcome from my appeal so that I can receive my points and prize money.  Thank you so much’.

Democratic House Rep. Tim Ryan suggested to reporters that President Joe Biden should step aside in 2024 in favor of a new generation of leaders – just before the commander-in-chief was due for a high-stakes visit to Ryan’s home state of Ohio.

With less than two months until the November midterm elections, Biden made a visit to an overwhelmingly Republican part of Ohio on Friday for the groundbreaking of a semiconductor plant that he promoted as evidence that his economic policies are working.

But his trip was punctuated by Ryan’s doubts.

The moderate Democrat is running for the U.S. Senate against Donald Trump-backed Republican author J.D. Vance. They’re vying to replace outgoing GOP Sen. Rob Portman.

On Thursday, Ryan publicly questioned whether the party needed someone other than Biden after he was asked if the 79-year-old president should run for re-election in 2024.

Asked if the president should seek a second term, Ryan told Youngstown, Ohio, network WFMJ, ‘My hunch is that we need new leadership across the board.’

‘Democrats, Republicans, I think it’s time for a generational move,’ he added.

‘The environment politically across the country is poisonous, and people I think want some change.’

Ryan, who has broken with the president on some issues, has not asked Biden to campaign with him in the state, but was present at the Intel groundbreaking for the president’s remarks.

President Joe Biden made a visit to a solidly Republican part of Ohio on Friday - one day after fellow Democrat, Rep. Tim Ryan, poured cold water on his 2024 aspirations.

President Joe Biden made a visit to a solidly Republican part of Ohio on Friday – one day after fellow Democrat, Rep. Tim Ryan, poured cold water on his 2024 aspirations.

Pressed later by reporters if Biden should run again, Ryan said that was up to the president.

‘The president said from the very beginning he was going to be a bridge to the next generation, which is basically what I was saying,’ he said.

Just last month Ryan became one of the first Democrats in power to publicly break from Biden over his controversial plan to ease federal student loan debt.

Ryan said it sent the ‘wrong message’ and called for broader tax cuts instead to help more of the working and middle classes.

Vance seized on Ryan’s appearance with the president Friday.

‘It takes a real two-faced fraud for someone to tell Ohioans he doesn’t support Biden running for reelection, the literal day before he appears at an event with him,’ he said.

The venture capitalist and ‘Hillbilly Elegy’ writer is appearing with Trump in Youngstown, Ohio on Saturday for one of the ex-president’s signature ‘Make America Great Again’ rallies.

Biden traveled to Licking County near Columbus to speak at the site of Intel Corp’s new $20 billion semiconductor manufacturing facility and hailed it as a sign of things to come.

‘The future of the chip industry is going to be made in America,’ he said. ‘The industrial Midwest is back.’

The trip is part of a White House pre-midterms push to tout new funding for manufacturing and infrastructure that Democrats pushed through Congress.

In the meantime, Biden has also made waves by hurling fiery insults at his predecessor’s supporters – who the president has dubbed at times ‘MAGA Republicans,’ ‘extremists’ and ‘Trumpies.’

Previous trips to Maryland, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin have landed the president in areas where Democrats already have strong support, but Licking County voted Republican 63 percent to 35 percent in the 2020 presidential election.

Democrats have lost Ohio in the past two presidential contests, but Portman’s retirement may give Democrats a chance to pick up a Senate seat.

Some recent forecasts show Democrats favored to maintain control of the Senate, after a series of wins in Congress. But not all candidates welcome Biden’s campaigning support.

Wisconsin Democratic Senate hopeful Mandela Barnes, the state’s current lieutenant governor, opted not to appear alongside Biden during a Labor Day speech last week.

His campaign told DailyMail.com at the time that Barnes was engaged in other activities celebrating American workers throughout the state.

In Pennsylvania, progressive Senate candidate and lieutenant governor John Fetterman spoke with Biden on Labor Day but did not join him at an earlier Key Stone State event.

State Attorney General Josh Shapiro, a Democrat running for governor, appeared with Biden in Wilkes-Barre but did not on Labor Day.

The report found Elliott took to Twitter to make his accusations – posting a picture of Mazany reading wedding vows to his daughter Sterling (who he had through a past marriage) while Croom holds a microphone for her.

‘You want to see something gross? This is my “wife” reading vows to my daughter on our “wedding” night,’ Elliott wrote.

‘The guy holding the microphone was my “friend/teammate” my wife cheated on me with this guy the same night! and they have had a relationship our entire “marriage.”‘

The Post reports Elliott also says that he is no longer married to Mazany. He also says Mazany and Croom are currently together. Dailymail.com has reached out to their representatives for comment.

Both Mazany and Croom were cut by the UFC last April following losses – but they have since pursued other promotions.

Elliott has not fought in the UFC since his appearance in UFC 272 where he defeated Tagir Ulanbekov by unanimous decision.

He’s next scheduled to face Victor Altamirano on June 3.

Outspoken: Tim Martin isn’t shy about putting the world to rights

At the age of 68, many businessmen would be thinking about retirement. But not Tim Martin, the very out- spoken executive chairman of the high street pub chain stalwart JD Wetherspoon.

‘We are built to work and it suits me,’ he says over a latte at The Great Harry pub in Woolwich, south-east London.

While Martin, who founded Wetherspoons in 1979, may be an enthusiastic member of the workforce, official figures show an increasing number of Britons are stepping away from employment before they hit the State Pension age of 66.

Some politicians and economists are blaming this trend for labour shortages and say it is holding back the economy.

Last Thursday, Work and Pensions Secretary Mel Stride went so far as to say income tax could be cut by 2p if those who left jobs during the pandemic – many of them older workers – returned to work.

Not surprisingly, perhaps, Martin doesn’t mince his words on the subject, which he says is putting ‘quite a lot of pressure’ on his FTSE 250 pub chain.

‘I think we should get the b*****ds back to work,’ he says. ‘I think me and Warren Buffett [the legendary US fund manager who is still working at 92] should launch a campaign to say life is sweeter if you go out to work when everyone else is retired.’

He acknowledges that although the point at which people decide to stop working is a personal choice, employers have a significant influence, too, adding: ‘It is up to businesses to make it attractive to work – maybe part time – which is what a lot of the oldies do in our business.’

According to Martin, an older worker in Clacton-on-Sea told him recently she had no plans to retire, adding: ‘What am I going to do? Stay at home and look at the wall?’

While running a company would be enough for most people, Martin is also keeping up the campaigning streak he honed in the run-up to the EU referendum, when he was a vocal Leave supporter.

He is a fervent opponent, for example, of the decision by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Chancellor Jeremy Hunt to increase corporation tax from 19 per cent to 25 per cent

Martin also joined business leaders headed by hotel tycoon Sir Rocco Forte and senior Tories including Sir Iain Duncan Smith last month to call on Sunak to scrap the tourist tax on foreign visitors, who are no longer able to claim back the VAT they pay during shopping sprees in the UK.

In addition, he is a passionate campaigner for tax equality between pubs, bars and restaurants, and the supermarket chains which pay lower tax on food and drink sales.

Supermarkets can sell beer on the cheap, he argues, because they pay no VAT on food sales, but pubs and restaurants must pay 20 per cent. Martin says this has led to a slower post-pandemic recovery for the industry because it encourages people to buy alcohol in supermarkets and then drink it at home. In spite of all of this, Wetherspoons appears to be going from strength to strength.

The £1 billion group, which has 834 venues, reported last week that it is on course for a record year after a bumper Easter week followed by its ‘busiest-ever’ Saturday at the end of April.

The Coronation was a ‘noticeably quiet’ day, but that could have been because the rainy weather resulted in people opting to stay at home.

This buoyancy represents a change of tune after Martin said in January that expectations for a boom in the pub industry had not materialised and the recovery in sales had been sluggish.

He opened his first Wetherspoons pub in north London’s Muswell Hill 43 years ago – famously naming it after the character JD Hogg in the US TV series The Dukes of Hazzard, and a teacher called Wetherspoon who told him he would never amount to anything.

When Martin launched the company, Margaret Thatcher had been residing at Number 10 for around six months.

Britain’s first female Prime Minister had launched a radical programme of tax cuts and deregulation as part of a mission to revive business after years of industrial strife and economic decline under a Labour government. As a result it was an extremely exciting time for entrepreneurs. Britain’s pro-business agenda continued through John Major, Tony Blair and Gordon Brown’s premierships, and Wetherspoons quickly grew into one of the country’s largest pub groups.

But Martin, who is one of Britain’s biggest taxpayers, is pessimistic about today’s politicians. ‘We have a Government and political class with relatively little experience of business,’ he says. ‘From the 1970s, not just the Conservative government, but also Labour, genuinely realised that enterprise is the key to future success.’

He says things are different nowadays, adding: ‘You don’t much hear people saying we need to encourage business.’

Martin is no fan of Sunak and says he is ‘not setting the world alight’ and ‘could be friendlier to business’.

He has decided to ‘keep neutral’ on the Labour Party, which many expect to win the next general election. ‘I am sure Keir Starmer is one of the nicest people I have never met,’ he says, then adds that he ‘can’t see’ the pair going on the campaign trail together.

Wetherspoons was one of the most recognisable names in British business before the EU referendum in 2016. Martin went on to grab headline after headline for his criticism of the Remain campaign and for his decision to print pro-Leave rants on beermats. Despite the Leave camp winning, he has not been satisfied by the policies that have followed.

In particular, he takes aim at former Prime Minister Boris Johnson, with whom he pulled pints during the run-up to the referendum.

‘I think a lot of the economic decisions that have been taken by the Government since the referendum have been awful,’ he says. ‘None more so than when Boris was in charge. He would not be running the finance department at Wetherspoons.’

But Martin is still a believer in the UK’s decision to leave the EU, highlighting historically low unemployment and the London Stock Exchange hitting record highs. He also insists that Brexit has ‘increased the level of democracy in the UK’.

He said: ‘By far the most potent economic force in world history is democracy.

‘If you look at the 50 most economically successful countries in the world, apart from a few oil states, they are all democracies. And if you look at the freest states they are all democracies.

‘So you have a mixture of freedom and democracy, and what Brexit did is increase the level of democracy in the UK.

‘That doesn’t guarantee nirvana, but it is a precondition to future economic success.’

Passenger planes in the future might have AI pilots, says Emirates airline president Tim Clark

Passenger aircraft with AI co-pilots could be flying travellers to their destinations in the future, says Tim Clark, president of airline Emirates.

He told CNBC: ‘You might see a one-pilot aircraft. Could the aircraft be flown on a fully automated basis? Yes it could, technology is right up there now.

‘[But passengers] like to think there are two pilots up there. There will always be somebody on the flight deck in my view.’

His remarks come as debate rages over how far and fast AI technology should be developed.

Underscoring how much input a pilot has in the cockpit, Joji Waites, head of flight safety at pilots’ union Balpa, wrote in a blog: ‘The skilled pilot is part of an intricate safety system that mitigates risks and keeps passengers safe.

‘Pilots are much more than just plane drivers – they are skilled professionals who are part of a vital safety system that works to ensure passengers, crew and cargo arrive safely at their destinations.

‘As pressure increases from some parts of the industry for operations with a further reduction in crew numbers – maybe eventually leading to fully autonomous operations – the recognition of these skills and the safety added value of a multi-crew cockpit is more important than ever.’

He explained that pilots have to be navigators, engineers, technicians, weather experts and customer service managers.

He added: ‘On a typical day, pilots deal with other aircrew, ground crew, cabin crew, air traffic control and passengers to name a few. A pilot must be able to communicate well, not only in aviation terms (for example using the radio to speak to ATC), but also on an interpersonal level.

‘For a start, pilots fly with so many different crews that they must be able to establish a rapport with other flight and cabin crew easily. They must be able to exchange information clearly with people they have never met before. A pilot also must communicate information to passengers.

‘As well as being responsible for their passengers, a captain has the ultimate responsibility for all the crew on board.

‘Understanding their needs, flight time limitations, rest requirements, industrial agreements and supporting them in their dealings with passengers is a vital part of the job.’

Tim Bachman dead at 71: Bachman-Turner Overdrive guitarist passes following complications with cancer… three months after brother Robbie

Tim Bachman, the guitarist and vocalist of Bachman-Turner Overdrive, has died at 71.

The musician’s death was confirmed by his son, Paxton Bachman, via a Facebook post on Friday.

Paxton shared that Tim — who played in BTO from 1973 until 1974, and reunited with the group a decade later — passed following complications with cancer ‘throughout his brain.’

‘My Dad passed this afternoon. Thank You Everyone for the kind words,’ he wrote, adding, ‘Grateful I got to spend some time with him at the end. Grab yer loved ones and hug em close, ya never know how long you have.’

His death comes just three months after his brother – and BTO co-founder – Robbie Bachman died in January at the age of 69.

Paxton also recalled Tim’s his final moments in a Facebook post, writing, ‘I sat with Dad yesterday afternoon and reminisced about some of the good times we had.’

‘He was pretty out of it most of the time, but at one point looked up at me with really, big wide eyes and said, “I love you Paxton, keep sharing the music…” and then passed back out.’

‘It’s really hard watching your parent lay in bed helpless and sick and there’s nothing you can do to help them. Breaking my heart. Thankful for the time we got to spend together,’ he added.

Tim and his brothers Randy and Robbie formed BTO in 1973 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada with C.F. Turner.

He was featured on the band’s two albums: Bachman–Turner Overdrive and Bachman–Turner Overdrive II.

The guitarist was later replaced by Blair Thornton, but he returned to the band for a reunion tour in 1984.

In 2014 Bachman-Turner Overdrive was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.
