The Department of Justice pulled a last-minute maneuver to block an FBI agent allegedly involved in Big Tech’s suppression of the Hunter Biden laptop story from testifying before Congress

The House Judiciary Committee is investigating whether Hunter Biden’s laptop was downplayed by social media companies. As part of the probe, Chairman Jim Jordan uncovered that an FBI agent involved in the saga – Elvis Chan – lied about the computer.

Chan had agreed to voluntarily appear Friday to provide the committee testimony and be represented by his personal counsel.

Agency witnesses are allowed to bring either agency counsel or personal counsel to committee interviews, but not both. The rule is set up so agency witnesses can be more candid in testimony without fear of professional retribution, according to the committee.

But two sources with direct knowledge of the situation tell DailyMail.com that DOJ derailed the testimony because agency counsel also showed up Friday morning. As a result, Chan’s interview did not take place as planned.

Now, an official subpoena is expected to be issued later Friday for Chan to appear for a transcribed interview next Thursday, Sept. 21.

The FBI disputed the claim that DOJ blocked Chan from testifying, calling it a ‘significant departure’ from normal procedures. And the DOJ said the committee blocked the interview, not them.

The FBI knew that the laptop obtained by The New York Post had belonged to Hunter Biden, and photos (above) of him in a drug-addled state were real, yet refused to confirm its authenticity to Facebook and Twitter, Jim Jordan has claimed

‘Today, after an FBI employee traveled across the country to voluntarily participate in a scheduled interview, he was denied the right to have his chosen legal counsel accompany him,’ an FBI spokesperson told DailyMail.com.

‘Upon arrival at the Capitol, Committee staff directed agency counsel to leave the premises, and the interview was unable to proceed. This is a significant departure from normal procedures and an unnecessary escalation of this Committee’s treatment of FBI officials. The FBI employee remains willing to take part in a voluntary interview with appropriate legal representation.’

‘The FBI recognizes the importance of congressional oversight and will continue to proceed in accordance with the long established accommodations process,’ the spokesperson continued.

The spokesperson also noted that more than a dozen other FBI employees have participated in interviews with the committee with no incident.

A Justice Department official told DailyMail.com that ‘DOJ did not block the interview, the Committee did.’

‘Agent Chan chose to be represented by both agency and personal counsel. He went to the Capitol this morning to testify and, instead of asking him questions, Committee staff turned him away and threatened to throw agency counsel out of the room.’

Last month, Jordan published excerpts of the testimony given by Chan, who served as one of the FBI’s liaisons with tech companies, and Laura Dehmlow, the current FBI section chief of the Foreign Influence Task Force.

Chan testified in November 2022 as part of Missouri and Louisiana‘s lawsuit against the federal government and the Biden administration for colluding with social media companies to censor speech.

Jordan said that Chan held a repeat meeting with Facebook about the laptop, but testified he had only had one session. He also testified that he was not aware of internal debate about the laptop, but told a colleague he was ‘up to speed.’

Dehmlow spoke to Jordan’s committee earlier this summer without incident.

Jordan said that Dehmlow revealed how the FBI knew the laptop was not a forgery or plant, but refused to confirm its authenticity to social media companies.

Jordan recently publicized internal Facebook documents have resulted in bombshell revelations about Hunter Biden’s laptop, arguing that it illustrated the FBI knew the laptop was authentic and belonged to him – but refused to confirm the fact to Facebook and Twitter.

That decision led to the New York Post’s report about the laptop being blocked by the social media companies, who labelled it as disinformation.

‘Internal FB docs reveal that an FBI Special Agent made false statements in testimony about the FBI’s role in the suppression of the Hunter Biden laptop story,’ tweeted Jordan last month.

Jordan explained in a Twitter thread how, on October 14, 2020, The New York Post published its first story about the laptop, which Biden had left behind in a Delaware repair shop.

The laptop contained damning pictures of Hunter doing drugs and enjoying the company of prostitutes.

It also contained emails and massive amounts of information about his business dealings.

On the day the Post published its story, Chan and Dehmlow met with representatives of Twitter and then Facebook.

Twitter’s team asked whether the FBI thought Hunter Biden’s laptop was real: one FBI representative replied yes, and then another quickly said: ‘No comment.’

Dehmlow told Jordan’s committee that there was then internal deliberations, and it was decided that the answer would be ‘no comment’ from then on.

At the next meeting, with Facebook, Dehmlow herself told Facebook ‘no comment’ when asked if the laptop was real.

‘It was an ongoing investigation, and we generally don’t comment on ongoing investigative matters when asked,’ she told Jordan’s committee.

Jordan on Monday declared: ‘Did Dehmlow know that the FBI had the laptop and it was real? Yes.

‘Did other key members of the FBI’s Foreign Influence Task Force know? Yes.

‘The FBI knew the laptop was real and yet decided it would say ‘no comment.’

‘We know what happened next.

‘Twitter and Facebook censored the @nypost story.

‘The Biden campaign secretly set in motion the events that led to the 51 former intel officials discrediting the story as Russian disinformation.’

Jordan and his allies are convinced that the FBI was working to discredit the story, in a bid to downplay it and help Joe Biden’s electoral chances.

Jordan then singled out extracts from Chan’s testimony at the end of last year.

Chan was asked by the Missouri and Louisiana officials whether he had been involved in any meetings after October 14 with Facebook, where the Hunter Biden laptop was discussed.

Chan replied that he did not believe so.

‘I was confident that I was not a party to any meeting with social media companies where Hunter Biden was discussed outside of the one incident that I told you about,’ said Chan.

However, Jordan said that his committee ‘recently obtained an internal Facebook document PROVING that Agent Chan had a secret ‘follow up’ call with Facebook about the Hunter Biden laptop story on October 15, just one day after the @nypost story and the first Facebook meeting!’

Jordan noted that Chan also claimed that he had ‘no internal knowledge of [the FBI’s] investigation’ involving Hunter Biden’s laptop, but according to internal Facebook documents told a colleague he was ‘up to speed on the current state of the matter within the FBI.’

Jordan added: ‘Is there any wonder why the Biden DOJ has so far stonewalled the Committee’s efforts to interview Agent Chan?’

The committee still plans to get to the bottom of the ‘lie’ when Chan sits down with them next week.

A top Democrat is coming to the defense of Joe Biden following damning testimony by Hunter Biden‘s business partner Devon Archer who revealed the then-vice president sat in on at least 20 of his son’s calls to ‘sell’ the Biden brand to foreign associates.

Archer told Congress in bombshell testimony Monday the ‘Biden brand’ helped keep Ukrainian firm Burisma from going bankrupt. He also revealed Joe was on the phone or present in-person at least 20 times while his son who called him ‘my guy’ was talking with foreign business partners.

Following Archer’s testimony, Republicans are now saying they may have enough evidence to begin an impeachment inquiry into the president for lying about his involvement in Hunter’s businesses. However, the White House has maintained that Joe ‘has never been in business’ with his son and Democrats are working to back up their claims.

House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence Ranking Member Jim Himes, D-Conn., fired back at Republicans Tuesday, saying that they have not presented any evidence that President Biden engaged in corruption – despite Archer’s testimony.

‘Have [Republicans] pointed to anything to suggest that Joe Biden engaged in corrupt behavior? No,’ said Himes on MSNBC’s Morning Joe Tuesday.

‘On the contrary, Hunter Biden’s business partner said, yea, he was on some phone calls talking about the weather, exchanging pleasantries,’ continued Himes.

‘It is sure and absolutely not a crime. They’re just in this box of their own making.’

‘On the topic of a Biden impeachment: If impeachable crimes are surfaced – and I say this as a Democrat – fine. [Republicans] have found no evidence whatsoever that there are impeachable crimes,’ continued Himes.

Republicans claim Archer’s testimony added to mounting evidence that the then-Vice President was involved in Hunter’s overseas deals that raked in millions from nations including China and Romania.

However, Democrats say that the phone calls were innocent and did not involve business, insisting they were talking about ‘niceties’ like talking about ‘the weather,’ and ‘what’s going on?”

White House spokesperson Ian Sams also hit back at Republican claims of corruption following Archer’s testimony, saying that Republicans have not yet produced any solid evidence implicating Joe.

‘They keep promising bombshell evidence but over and over, they can’t produce any,’ he wrote on Twitter.

‘Yet the goose chase rolls on, at the expense of focusing on Americans’ real priorities.’

Himes’ counterpart – committee Chairman Mike Turner, R-Ohio – said Tuesday morning that Joe Biden’s ‘lies are piling up.’

The chairman did not rule out backing a future impeachment inquiry into the president as the GOP continues to collect evidence.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said last week that President Biden has ‘lied to the American public’ about son Hunter’s business deals – and is ‘hiding info’ like former President Richard Nixon – who was impeached in 1973 and resigned from office.

He threatened opening an impeachment inquiry of Biden if he does not get full cooperation from federal agencies in the House investigations of Biden family business deals.

‘The evidence continues to mount and today we saw Joe Biden has lied to the American people. He knew who his son was getting those dollars from and he spoke to them and spoke to them often,’ House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., told Fox News’ Sean Hannity hours after the testimony concluded.

Archer’s revelations to Congress provided evidence to help Republicans take a ‘huge step towards implicating Joe Biden in these crimes,’ continued Comer.

‘We heard from someone on the inside that it was influence peddling. Joe Biden himself talked to every person that has wired money to the Bidens.’

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., said Monday that the information that came out of Archer’s testimony could ‘really push’ many Republicans to get to a ‘yes’ vote on impeachment for Joe Biden down the road.

Greene, Rep. Andy Biggs and Ronny Jackson immediately called for an impeachment inquiry into the president following Archer’s testimony.

‘I 100% SUPPORT an impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden! What we’ve learned now is just the tip of the iceberg. His career of corruption knows no bounds. Biden has been a TRAITOR to our country for decades!!’ tweeted Jackson.

But most Republicans say that there needs to be additional evidence compiled first before going down the impeachment path.

Rep. Dan Goldman, D-N.Y., confirmed Archer told the House Oversight Committee that Joe had been on speakerphone multiple times while his son was talking with business partners – but insisted they were talking about the weather and geography.

Republican Rep. Andy Biggs then said that, according to Archer, Hunter was on the Ukrainian energy firm board because of his family ‘brand’ – and Joe added ‘value’ and may have helped take down a Ukrainian prosecutor investigating the company.

In addition, Archer revealed that Hunter referred to Joe as ‘my guy,’ according to a statement put out by Oversight Republicans.

Goldman – lead counsel on the first Trump impeachment and the only Democrat present in the room of the testimony – told reporters that Archer ‘indicated that Hunter spoke to his father every day, and approximately 20 times over the course of a 10 year relationship, Hunter may have put his father on the phone with any number of different people, and they never once spoke about any business dealings.’

‘Remember, this is when Beau got ill,’ Goldman said, noting that Hunter and Joe spoke on the phone frequently before Beau’s death in 2015.

But Republicans had a different retelling of Archer’s account.

Biggs said as he left the room that Archer had testified ‘Burisma would have gone out of business sooner if the Biden brand had not been invoked. People would be intimidated to really mess with Burisma because of the Biden family brand.’

He added that Archer had told the committee he did not know anything about the specific bribery claims made in the FBI’s FD-1023 document.

The internal document, which detailed a conversation with a confidential source who had spoken with Burisma CFO Vadim Pojarski in 2015, said that Pojarski had claimed Joe and Hunter had been paid $5 million each when Joe was vice president in exchange for policy outcomes favorable to the company.

Archer testified Monday that Pozharskyi and CEO Nikola Zlochevsky put ‘constant pressure’ on Hunter in 2015 to get his father to fire prosecutor Viktor Shokin, who was investigating Burisma.

‘Have [Republicans] pointed to anything to suggest that Joe Biden engaged in corrupt behavior? No,’ said Himes

Archer is expected to give his account of the Biden family business dealings for four to five hours behind closed doors

Hunter Biden, along with Zlochevsky and Pozharski, reportedly ‘called D.C.’ to discuss Shokin. In March 2016, Joe Biden threatened to withhold $1 billion in aid to Ukraine if Shokin was not fired for corruption – which he eventually was.

Separately, in a 2017 email to Hunter, his uncle Jim and other business partners regarding a deal with Chinese energy conglomerate CEFC, business partner James Gilliar made a reference to the ‘big guy’ getting a 10 percent stake in the lucrative deal.

Another former associate of the first son, U.S. Navy veteran Tony Bobulinski, publicly claimed in October 2020 that ‘big guy’ was a reference to President Biden.

Oversight member Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene told DailyMail.com in an interview Archer testified that ‘the Bidens were in the actual business of influence peddling.’

‘It’s extremely damning,’ she said, claiming that the 20 phone conversations Archer referred to were directly about business deals.

‘We have Devon Archer coming out and telling the truth that Hunter Biden and Joe Biden spoke over 20 times about his business deals, not about the weather, not about what was for lunch, about his business deals,’ she said.

Goldman explained Archer’s testimony of the phone calls as such: sometimes Hunter would be at dinner with business partners and take a call from his dad who didn’t know who else was at the table and put it on speaker phone.

‘There was no indication that he had any idea who was at dinner with them. It was just to say, ‘Hello I’m at dinner’ and there was nothing related to his business dealings.’

A Democratic source familiar told DailyMail.com that Archer told the committee ‘Hunter Biden was selling the illusion of access to his father.’

Judiciary Chairman and Oversight member Jim Jordan, who was in the room for the deposition, told reporters that Archer had provided the committee with new information and called the meeting ‘very productive.’

Archer’s attorney Matthew Schwartz said after his client’s testimony: ‘We are aware that all sides are claiming victory following Mr. Archer’s voluntary interview today. But all Devon Archer did was exactly what we said he would: show up and answer the questions put to him honestly and completely.’

Greene, who communicates regularly with Speaker Kevin McCarthy, said she believed Archer’s testimony could be what ‘moves the needle’ on the potential Biden impeachment inquiry.

She said that at last week’s weekly meeting of the Republican conference, McCarthy told his members: ‘when it’s time to vote for this, I want you to be with me on this one.’

‘We have to have 218 Republicans to vote for it,’ Greene said. ‘And there’s been some that just aren’t there yet, but in my opinion, the information that’s coming out today could really push many of them to get to ‘yes.”

Archer was on Burisma’s board with Hunter, who was paid $50,000 a month for his role. He is facing a lengthy prison sentence for defrauding Native Americans out of millions.

Hunter Biden‘s former business partner Devon Archer testified to Congress about the then-vice president Joe’s alleged involvement in foreign deals.

During his grilling on Monday, Archer revealed details of the 20 occasions he was on speakerphone or met in person with associates his son was in business with.

Archer also described how Hunter referred to his father as ‘my guy’, the influence of the Biden ‘brand,’ and used him to create the ‘illusion of access.’

In three hours of testimony, he told lawmakers that Joe Biden ‘brought the most value to the brand’.

Hunter’s deals helped him rake in millions from countries including China, Kazakhstan and Ukraine.

On Thursday, the Republicans on the House Oversight Committee released the transcript in full.

Hunter got a PORSCHE after bringing Joe to dinner with a Kazakh oligarch, Archer’s testimony reveals

According to the full transcript of Hunter Biden’s ex-business partner Devon Archer’s testimony to Congress, Joe Biden’s ‘brand’ protected Burisma from ‘pressure’ and the then-vice president’s intimidating influence directly led to his son receiving huge sums of foreign money – and a $142,300 Porche.

After Archer’s closed-door testimony on Monday to the House Oversight Committee, Republicans said he revealed Joe was directly involved in Hunter’s shady dealings, while Democrats insisted the then-vice president’s involvement was innocent and focused on ‘niceties,’ not business.

According to the transcript obtained by DailyMail.com on Thursday, Archer testified that then-Vice President Joe Biden’s ‘brand’ protected Ukranian oil company Burisma because ‘people would be intimidated to mess with them.’

He confirmed that Hunter put Joe on speakerphone 20 times over a 10 year period, which was a ‘signal’ of ‘value.’

Hunter’s presence on Burisma’s board and access to his father’s ‘brand’ led to the company’s ‘longevity’ because they had the ‘capabilities to navigate D.C.,’ Archer said according to the transcript.

‘I think Burisma would have gone out of business if it didn’t have the brand attached to it. That’s my, like, only honest opinion,’ Archer continued.

Hunter’s best friend and business associate sat with him on Burisma’s board beginning in 2014. They also started Rosemont Seneca Partners, an investment advisory firm, together.

Archer confirmed to lawmakers that Joe sat and had dinner in-person on at least two occasions with Hunter and his foreign business partners, who then wired money almost immediately after to Biden-affiliated companies.

In the spring of 2014, Joe joined Hunter and a handful of his business partners for dinner at Cafe Milano in Washington, D.C., including Kenes Rakishev, Karim Massimov, Yelena Baturina and possibly Eric Schwerin.

Archer confirmed that Joe was present long enough to eat dinner with the group.

Following the dinner, $3.5 million was wired from Russian billionaire Yelena Baturina into Rosemont Seneca Thornton on February 14.

On April 22, $142,300 was wired into the Rosemont Seneca Bohai account from Kenes Rakishev, a businessman from Kazakhstan, who was also at the Cafe Milano dinner.

The payment was made as a gift to Hunter, who received an ‘expensive car.’

Archer told the committee ‘I believe it was a Fisker first and then a Porsche.’

Hunter took a picture himself while driving a Porsche at an incredible 172mph on a highway outside Las Vegas in 2018, according to pictures found on his abandoned laptop. It was not immediately clear if the Porsche gifted to Hunter by Rakishev was the same vehicle.

The then-vice president also sat in on another dinner with Hunter and his partners in 2015 at Cafe Milano, Archer confirmed.

He also said that Hunter Biden would refer to his father as ‘my guy,’ which Republicans noted following the closed-door testimony on Monday.

According to the transcript, Hunter as ‘getting paid a lot of money’ by Burisma and ‘wanted to show value’ by getting credit for Joe Biden’s Ukraine trip in 2014.

‘I can’t guide my father in what he’s going to do on this trip, but let’s get credit for it,’ Archer said Hunter was thinking by referring to his dad as ‘my guy.’

Exhibit 2 in the attachments also showed Hunter, on email as ‘Robert,’ writing to Archer in April 2014 saying ‘our guy needs to set himself up as the anti-Victor Pinchuk (coal and steel oligarch – pro Russian Yanukuvich supporter).

At the time, then-Vice President Joe Biden was leading the U.S. anti-corruption efforts abroad.

Questions had remained about why Archer decided to cooperate with the committee this week after he previously cancelled on the committee at least three times in recent weeks.

Archer, 48, was subpoenaed on June 12 by the House Oversight Committee, which is investigating Hunter’s businesses and whether he and other members of the Biden family improperly traded on their connections.

According to Archer’s opening statement in the transcript, he said ‘it’s been a long decade’ and his entire forties have been ‘mired in fighting the government.’

‘So I want to be cooperative now and maybe we can all be friends. So let’s take it from there,’ he told committee staff and lawmakers.

Archer is facing legal troubles of his own and is expected to go to prison shortly.

Top Republicans say Hunter Biden‘s business partner Devon Archer’s damning testimony shines a ‘new light’ on the plea deal that fell apart in court last week, and reveals that Joe was directly ‘implicated’ in his son’s dealings.

Archer told Congress in bombshell testimony Monday the ‘Biden brand’ helped keep Ukrainian firm Burisma from going bankrupt. He also revealed Joe was on the phone or present in-person at least 20 times while his son who called him ‘my guy’ was talking with foreign associates.

Following Archer’s testimony, Republicans are now saying they may have enough evidence to begin an impeachment inquiry into the president for lying about his involvement in Hunter’s businesses. The White House has maintained that Joe ‘has never been in business’ with his son.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan added that Archer’s testimony shone a ‘new light’ on Hunter’s ‘sweetheart’ plea deal, which fell apart in federal court last week.

‘Now we have more light on that deal they tried to put together and the judge asks questions and it is no longer going to happen,’ Jordan said.

Hunter appeared in federal court last week prepared to plead guilty to two misdemeanor tax charges and walk away with just a slap on the wrist and no prison time, which Republicans slammed as a ‘sweetheart deal’ that Biden’s Department of Justice put together to protect the president’s son.

However, after Judge Maryellen Noreika questioned the ‘diversion agreement’ of Hunter’s plea deal – a clause that gave him blanket immunity for a wide range of other potential charges, including illegal foreign lobbying – the deal blew up spectacularly.

On Monday, Jordan along with committee chairs James Comer and Jason Smith launched an investigation into the ‘unusual’ plea deal and pretrial diversion agreement that they say raises ‘serious concerns’ about ‘preferential treatment’ toward Hunter.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., said Monday that the information that came out of Archer’s testimony could ‘really push’ many Republicans to get to a ‘yes’ vote on impeachment for Joe Biden down the road.

DailyMail.com reported exclusively this week that Archer was ‘in hiding’ after receiving ‘threats’ leading up to his bombshell testimony.

Archer, 48, was subpoenaed on June 12 by the House Oversight Committee, which is investigating Hunter’s businesses and whether he and other members of the Biden family improperly traded on their connections.

The White House has maintained the president was never ‘in business’ with his son, but the GOP have ramped up their investigation with testimonies from whistleblowers and a slew of other evidence.

Archer, 48, and Hunter both graduated from Yale and were friends for decades. Hunter has reportedly described Devon as his ‘best friend in business.’

Together they formed Rosemont Seneca Partners back in 2009, along with Christopher Heinz, the son-in-law of former Sen. John Kerry, kicking off a period of international business deals and jet-setting.

Archer and Hunter Biden each landed lucrative seats on the board of Ukrainian energy firm Burisma, despite Hunter not having particular expertise in the field. The firm brought in a reported $11 million through the arrangement, based on information gleaned from Hunter’s infamous laptop.

They were photographed golfing with then-Vice President Biden back in 2014.
