Aaron Rodgers has told Pat McAfee he considered retiring from football due to the torn Achilles that ruined his season with the New York Jets as it had just got started.

Rodgers. 39, joined McAfee’s show live from his rehab room to provide an update on his comeback and admitted that while thoughts of leaving the game entered his head, he is working on returning.

‘It’s tough, every single day is tough. I’ve been grinding on the rehab and looking forward to getting back out to Jersey at some point,’ Rodgers said. ‘It’s disappointing not to be out there.’

Rodgers, who turns 40 in December, joked that his rehab is the ‘reverse darkness retreat’ as he was in a white room without anything on the walls.

‘I’m well taken care of. This is the time for me to sit and receive and try and find some joy in the process.

‘There’s been some progressions the last couple days that get the hope meter trending upwards a little bit and the joy meter trending up a little bit.

‘I don’t wanna get caught in a timeline, I want to get healthy mentally and physically. But I’m gonna do everything that I can to put myself in a position to play football again at some point.

‘Obviously when this happens there are thoughts of ”is that it’ and ‘are you done?’. I don’t feel like I am. I am going to put myself in position to play again.

‘The first goal was to get out of the cast. The second goal, get out of the boot which coincides with walking. Walking leads to movement, faster movement, ultimately running at some point.

‘Getting out the boot is the next goal. When I can stand up on my own, the boot comes off and then it gets exciting.’

Rodgers admitted he is using manifestation to inspire his comeback.

‘Visualization is an important part of the manifestation process,’ he said. ‘At the core of manifestation is belief. You have to believe it is going to happen again.

‘I’m just visualizing being back on the field. Not a timeline, not this year or next year but being able to run out of a tunnel back out onto a field to do exactly what I love.’

Erik ten Hag has urged Manchester United to stick together as they try to weather a storm following four defeats in five games.

United have lost three in a row and go to Burnley on Saturday night in danger of suffering four straight defeats for the first time since Louis van Gaal‘s second season in 2015.

Ten Hag insists that the key to turning the corner after such a poor start to the season is maintaining unity.

Asked if he is surprised by the scale of the challenge, he replied: ‘No. It’s my second year. I know it’s not always going up, you will have your gaps and you get stronger from it as long as you stay together.

‘That’s what we’re doing. The dressing-room, all the staff, coaches, medical, everyone is united and at United you fight.’

There have been concerns over dressing-room leaks about squad unrest at Old Trafford, but Ten Hag added: ‘I don’t know if it’s a leak but I know opinion, I know my players. Everyone can make suggestions, we are okay with it.’

United go to Turf Moor desperately in need of a win to lift morale. ‘At United, you have to win every game so it doesn’t change anything,’ said Ten Hag.

‘As always, it’s about how we play against Burnley. There’s no easy games, definitely not against Burnley. We know how intense they play football, we know their approach. I like the approach from them, the adventure, high intensity and dynamic in their game, so we have to play our best.’

Jill Biden didn’t answer a question about husband Joe Biden‘s impeachment as she hosted an event with Hillary Clinton at the White House but assured the former secretary of state she was very ‘loved’ by the Democrats in the room.

The first lady smiled at a reporter who inquired about Speaker Kevin McCarthy‘s decision to open an impeachment inquiry against the president but didn’t stop to comment on the matter.

‘It’s an honor to welcome you back to the White House,’ Jill Biden told Hillary Clinton at the event in the East Room. And when the audience broke into whoops and cheers, the first lady to her: ‘You are so loved.’

Meanwhile, President Joe Biden remained in hiding on Tuesday, not appearing in public at the White House. The only event on his public schedule was his daily intelligence briefing although the public schedule doesn’t reflect all of the president’s activities for the day.

The White House called a lid shortly after 2 pm ET, meaning there would be no public activities by the president, who returned from his trip to India and Vietnam late Monday night. That was a few hours after McCarthy made his impeachment announcement.

The last Democratic president to be impeached was Clinton’s husband, Bill Clinton. Republican President Donald Trump was impeached twice. Neither president was convicted by the Senate

Hillary Clinton was at the White House on Tuesday for her first public appearance at the  presidential residence and workplace since her 2016 election loss to Donald Trump.

The former secretary of state did make a private appearance at the White House in 2021 for a dinner to celebrate then outgoing German Chancellor Angela Merkel early in Biden’s tenure.

Biden and Clinton were honoring the 2023 Praemium Imperiale Laureates. The Praemium Imperiale is a global arts prize awarded annually by the Japan Art Association for lifetime achievement in the arts. The Praemium Imperiale Laureates were first celebrated at the White House by President Clinton and Mrs. Clinton in 1994.

It was a Clinton-friendly crowd. Spotted in the audience was Clinton’s longtime aide Huma Abedin; former Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe, a close friend of both Clintons;  Capricia Marshall, who was an aide in the Clinton White House; and former Rep. Jerry Moran, a close Clinton ally.

Actress Debra Messing and ballet star Mikhail Baryshnikov were also at the event.

In her remarks, Jill Biden also reference the fact that Hillary Clinton will be returning to the classroom. The former secretary of state is teaching a class on global decision making at Columbia University.

The first lady, who teaches at Northern Virginia Community College, noted Clinton was now a ‘fellow educator.’

‘Good luck this semester,’ she told her.

Clinton thanked the first lady for hosting the event at the White House and paid tribute to her dual work as first lady and teacher.

She didn’t mention her own presidential race or former president Trump.

‘You know, Dr. Biden travels across the United States and around the world on behalf of the American people and I can say from some experience that is an exhilarating but exhausting job,’ Clinton said.

‘But throughout it all, she has remained dedicated to her first calling as an educator and mentor of young people. Now as she said, I’ve gone back to teaching recently, after 50 years, and I can attest it’s a hard enough job without being first lady,’ she said.

Earlier Tuesday, McCarthy made the shock announcement he would launch an impeachment inquiry on Biden, accusing the president of an ‘abuse of power and being involved in a ‘culture of corruption’ over son Hunter’s foreign business deals.

‘House Republicans have uncovered serious and credible allegations into President Biden’s conduct,’ McCarthy said, speaking at the Capitol. ‘Taken together these allegations paint a picture of a culture of corruption.’

‘These are allegations of abuse of power, obstruction and corruption. And they warrant further investigation by the House of Representatives. That’s why today I am directing our House committee to open a formal impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden,’ he noted.

‘This logical next step will give our committees, the full power to gather all the facts and answers for the American public. That’s exactly what we want to know the answers.’

Republicans have charged Biden and his family made millions off shell companies Hunter Biden formed when his father was vice president. Hunter had business deals with an energy company in the Ukraine, received a discounted stake in a private-equity firm in China, and did consulting for a Romanian real-estate magnate.

The president has denied any involvement in his son’s business dealings. But Republicans claim at least a dozen Biden family members could be involved in a scheme to benefit financially from Biden’s public office.

House investigators are expected to issue subpoenas for the bank records of the president and his family. The GOP also claim Biden sat in on at least 24 calls with Hunter’s business partners and was referred to as ‘the big guy’ by Hunter’s business associates. And they say Joe Biden used pseudonyms to discuss his activities related to Ukraine with his son Hunter during his time as vice president.

An inquiry is the first step in the impeachment process. It is when evidence is gathered for the articles, or charges, of impeachment against an official.

It is a massive step with many pitfalls, including infuriating Republican moderates and many GOP senators, who are skeptical of the issue and causing friction with the White House as budget negotiations are underway. Congress faces a September 30th deadline to fund the government or it will shutdown.

McCarthy, however, is under intense pressure from the conservative wing of his party to make such a move, including threats from some of his own GOP lawmakers to remove him from the speakership.

The White House has repeatedly denied Biden has conducted any wrongdoing. The president himself has said he was not involved with any of Hunter’s business deals.

The White House called McCarthy’s move ‘extreme politics.’

‘House Republicans have been investigating the President for 9 months, and they’ve turned up no evidence of wrongdoing. His own Republican members have said so. He vowed to hold a vote to open impeachment, now he flip flopped because he doesn’t have support. This is extreme politics at its worst,’ White House spokesperson for oversight and investigations Ian Sams said in a statement.

Former President Donald Trump it would be worth facing potential jail time in order to ‘Make America Great Again’ by winning the 2024 election – and also insisted that President Biden can no longer talk.

The former president, 77, sat down with Kelly for a SiriusXM interview aired on Thursday that saw him sharing insight into many of the issues he faces ahead of the 2024 election.

Kelly said the former president’s indictments in four separate cases were ‘very scary’ for him due to ‘left-wing judges’ and ‘left-wing juries’ and asked him if he could see himself going to prison.

‘I have a great attitude, it doesn’t affect me at all because I’m fighting for the country, I’m fighting for the people,’ before talking about how good his poll numbers were and that ‘the people know it’s all fake.’

He ultimately said, however, it was worth facing both the indictments and jail time in order to ‘Make America Great Again,’ arguing that ‘our country’s going to hell.’

‘Our country’s going to hell. Our country’s going to down. The country, I believe, has one last chance, this is the most important election we’ve ever had.’

The former president also was melancholy about the notion he might never visit his many famous properties across the globe, citing his golf club in Scotland.

‘Would I like to be at Turnberry in Scotland right now or the many places I have… I may never see those places again. But I think this is very important. I think we’re gonna win the election.’

Trump was last indicted in Georgia for his alleged roles in trying to overturn the 2020 election, with prosecutors using statutes normally seen in mob trials and accusing the former president of being head of ‘a criminal organization’.

He is facing three other criminal cases: one, on federal charges relating to election interference; another federal case related to the mishandling of classified documents, and one in New York federal court for alleged hush money payments to Stormy Daniel.

Trump then pivoted to President Biden, whom he said ‘can’t talk’ when asked by Kelly if he thinks Biden will go the distance to 2024.

‘I can’t imagine,’ Trump said. ‘I saw him yesterday, he can’t put two sentences together. It’s not an age thing, it’s a competence thing. He can’t talk!’

Trump also cited a Washington Post op-ed written Wednesday where David Ignatius wrote with a headline: ‘President Biden should not run again in 2024.’

‘He has to debate, I guess. I hope he’s gonna debate, I guess. The people want a smart president.’

Trump also noted he ‘doesn’t see’ himself debating any of his Republican Primary opponents, suggesting he didn’t want to debate someone he was ‘like 60 points ahead’ of.

Kelly even begged him to do one just before the Iowa caucuses, with Trump saying no.

Elsewhere in the interview, Trump said while he thinks Joe Biden is ‘grossly incompetent,’ he does not feel he is too old to be president.

With just three years separating the two 2024 frontrunners, many are concerned over the increasing age of presidential candidates – as well as other leaders in Congress.

Polling shows that more than three-fourths of Americans feel that Biden, 80, is too old to serve another four years in office.

But Trump, 77, told Megyn Kelly that age isn’t the issue.

‘I have many friends that are in their 80s. I have friends… that are in their 90s and they’re sharp as a tack. Just, I mean I would say, just about what they used to be. No, not old. He’s incompetent,’ Trump said of Biden.

If Biden was reelected he would break his own record for being the oldest-ever inaugurated U.S. president at 82 years old.

Trump is the second-oldest president following Biden. He was inaugurated at the age of 70. He beat former President Ronald Reagan by just about a year.

‘Age is interesting, because some people are very sharp and some people do lose it, but you lose it at 40 and 50 also,’ Trump told Kelly. ‘But no, he’s not too old at all. He’s grossly incompetent.

‘You look at some of the great world leaders, they were in their 80s and they did— I mean, Churchill, so many people. They were phenomenal in their 80s. You know, there’s a great wisdom if you’re not in a position like him, but if you go back 25 years, he wasn’t the sharpest tack either.

He also shared insight into both Melania and his youngest son Barron, 17.

‘I think part of the beauty is that mystery,’ Trump said when asked what people misunderstand about his wife of more than 20 years, before comparing her with Hollywood legend Greta Garbo.

‘She was a great actress, But she was very reclusive, never did an interview. I don’t see Melania as like that, but she’s introspective, and she’s confident… She doesn’t need to be out there [to get interviewed],’ he explained.

‘She has confidence. She has a lot of self confidence.’

Trump also gave an update on Barron, saying the teen is doing ‘really well’ and is a ‘very good athlete.’

‘Barron’s very tall – about six eight. And, and he’s a good kid. He’s a good looking kid. He’s a great student, very good student…we’re thinking about [college] right now,’ he added.

It was a productive conversation for Trump and Kelly, who have a notoriously rocky history.

Trump claimed she had ‘blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever’ during the the August 2015 primary debate she moderated.

But it seems the feud is now water under the bridge as Kelly released Thursday morning clips of her sit-down interview with Trump.

Kelly had expressed her enthusiasm, assuring viewers that the interview would be nothing short of captivating.

‘I’m really looking forward to this,’ she said in the video. ‘It’s going to be great, it’s going to be spicy, and it’s going to be tough, but it’s going to be good and hopefully, we’re both going to enjoy it.’

Donald Trump says while Joe Biden is ‘grossly incompetent,’ he does not feel he is too old to be president.

With just three years separating the two 2024 frontrunners, many are concerned over the increasing age of presidential candidates – as well as other leaders in Congress.

Polling shows that more than three-fourths of Americans feel that Biden, 80, is too old to serve another four years in office.

The ex-President said there are many people he knows that are old and still competent – like 94-year-old businessman Bernie Marcus. He also noted that Winston Churchill served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom until he was 80, at which point he resigned following a series of health issues, including strokes.

After leading Britain during World War Two Churchill became Prime Minister for a second time in 1951, when he was 76.

He resigned on April 5, 1955 when he was 80, and was succeeded by Anthony Eden.

In June 1953, when he was 78, Churchill suffered a stroke, which was initially not made public while he recuperated.

Following his stroke Churchill faced pressure from some senior colleagues to retire but carried on for nearly two years, convinced that only he could handle the threat posed by the Soviet Union. He continued to serve as a Member of Parliament until 1964, when he was 89, and died the following year aged 90.

If Biden were reelected he would break his own record for being the oldest-ever inaugurated U.S. president at 82-years-old.

Kelly and Trump don’t have the most civil history.

The former Fox News host and ex-President have publicly sparred stemming back to the 2016 election.

Trump told CNN in the days after the August 2015 primary debate that Kelly had ‘blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever.’

It seems the feud is now water under the bridge as Kelly released Thursday morning clips of her sit-down interview with Trump.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who often places second to Trump in 2024 primary polls, said in an interview with CBS News that aired on Tuesday that he is also concerned over the age of some of his competitors.

‘Presidency is not a job for someone who’s 80-years-old,’ DeSantis said, adding that age is a ‘legitimate concern’ for voters.

He added that if the Founding Fathers knew how old some of these leaders would be in the future, they would have likely put an age cap on certain offices.

An Associated Press/NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll released last month shows 77 percent of Americans think Biden is too old to serve a second term. This include a whopping 69 percent of Democrats.

Despite this statistic, there are not legitimate challengers in the Democratic primary against Biden. Both Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Marianne Williamson have launched longshot bids for the nomination.

The same AP/NORC poll shows 51 percent of Americans think Trump is too old to be president again.

With what sometimes seems like half of Europe and North America ablaze this summer, Fire Weather, the latest book by the Vancouver-based writer and journalist John Vaillant, could not be a more timely work. Climate change is unleashing the destructive power of fire in new ways.

As Vaillant highlights, we are seeing effects scientists have been predicting for decades. Nine of California‘s 20 largest wildfires have occurred since 2020.

Fire seasons around the world now seem relentless in their devastation. Vaillant quotes a senior officer in the Californian fire service who told him, ‘The fire season used to run from May to October. Over the last decade it’s changed to year-round.’

On a single day, July 7, 2017, the Canadian province of British Columbia saw 142 separate wildfires ignite.

High heat, drought conditions and wind combined to turn many of them into uncontrollable blazes.

Until we radically curb our addiction to fossil fuels, Vaillant argues, these problems will only get worse.

The focus of his eloquent book is this century’s most intense urban fire, which engulfed the city of Fort McMurray in Alberta, Canada in May 2016.

Often nicknamed ‘Fort McMoney’, the place has been described as ‘the ultimate boomtown’. In the previous 50 years, the town’s population had increased fiftyfold. Surrounded by forest, it is, in Vaillant’s words, ‘an island of industry in an ocean of trees’.

The reason for Fort McMurray’s success lies just below the forest floor. The Alberta tar sands is one of the biggest known petroleum reserves in the world, and the city grew rich from extracting and processing the bitumen deposits in which the oil is hidden.

It’s a huge operation and visible from space. From 6,000 miles above Earth, Fort McMurray’s bitumen mining and upgrading complex can just be seen.

Unfortunately, the oil boomtown is also sitting amidst one of the world’s wildfire centres. MWF-009 (McMurray Wildfire 009), as it was officially designated, ‘began as a random forest fire’. It was first spotted at 4pm on Sunday, May 1. In less than a day it had increased in size by 500 times and it was heading towards Fort McMurray.

At a Press conference on the Monday, one of the men in charge of the response to the fire said, ‘We’re blessed that we didn’t have 35km winds in the wrong direction.’

The following day they got precisely that. At that speed, equivalent to 22mph, a fire like 009 could travel a mile in a minute.

Yet the authorities seemed blind to the approaching catastrophe. ‘People should carry on their normal day, and also be prepared’ was the advice, given at the time the fire was spiralling out of control.

On the morning of May 3, the 88,000 inhabitants of Fort McMurray were, as Vaillant writes, ‘living in a parallel reality, as oblivious to their environment as the passengers on the Titanic were to theirs’.

The fire had already jumped the Athabasca River, a third of a mile wide, and was threatening the city. It was rapidly becoming out of control.

A photo taken in the neighbouring province of Saskatchewan showed that MWF-009 was ‘plainly visible 80 miles away’. Residents were soon all too aware of the danger they were in.

‘We couldn’t see the sun any more,’ a local radio host reported. ‘There was ash raining down, and there was this red hue downtown.’

The city’s real estate was offering the fire new fuel. At the height of the blaze, a house could go from ‘fully there . . . to fully gone’ in five minutes.

Despite the heroics of the city’s firefighters, sending them to face the flames was, in Vaillant’s striking phrasing, ‘like sending plumbers to confront a bursting dam’.

Flight was now the only option. Tens of thousands of people exited Fort McMurray in cars and trucks.

Throughout the afternoon of May 3, ‘cell phones and dashcams captured citizens cursing, praying and weeping as they tried to escape a suddenly annihilating world where fists of heat pounded on the windows, the sky rained fire, and the air came alive in roaring flame’.

Astonishingly, no one died in the Fort McMurray Fire, but thousands of houses and other buildings were destroyed or damaged.

Around the city, 2,300 square miles of forest burned. Some areas of the fire were not fully extinguished until August of the following year.

Fort McMurray is no longer a boomtown. Of those who fled, nearly a quarter — 20,000 people — chose not to return.

In addition to providing a clear-eyed portrait of its human cost, Fire Weather sets the Fort McMurray disaster in the wider context of the hotter world our actions have created.

‘This is not Planet Earth as we found it’, Vaillant writes and his powerful book is a must read for anyone interested in our collective future.

Sugary sodas are worse for people’s health than cocaine, according to a celebrity fitness trainer who has worked with stars like Nicole Kidman and Jennifer Aniston.

Sebastien Lagree has spent more than 20 years getting Hollywood’s top movie stars into shape, coaching them through fitness routines and diet regimens.

No matter his client, though, he tells them all to avoid three things: microwaved meals, fried foods, and, most importantly, soda.

Mr Lagree told DailyMail.com: ‘Sodas are the worst. Cocaine is illegal, but sodas aren’t? Sodas are worse than cocaine, in my opinion’.

The trainer chalks this up to the massive amounts of chemicals and added sugar in soda, which researchers have previously said have similar effects on our brains as hard drugs.

America’s most popular soda, Coca-Cola, did contain cocaine when it was invented in 1886- back when it was legal. However, it was removed shortly after the turn of the century.

Celebrity fitness trainer Sebastien Lagree said sodas are worse than cocaine and artificially sweetened drinks are not much better in terms of nutrition

When asked if someone could change their diet just by eliminating soda, Mr Lagree said: ‘Absolutely’.

Earlier this month, rapper Post Malone revealed he lost 65 pounds just from cutting out soda. ‘Soda is so bad. It’s so good but so bad,’ the rapper-singer said in an episode of The Joe Rogan Experience.

Researchers have previously told DailyMail.com highly-processed foods such as donuts, sodas, cereals, and pizza should be reclassified as drugs because they cause compulsive use and mood-altering effects on the brain.

Mr Lagree also believes sodas are a ‘major contributor’ to increasing rates of diabetes, obesity, and related illnesses in the US because of the massive amounts of added sugar these drinks have. Some have as much as 65 grams in just 16 ounces.

This is significantly more than the American Heart Association’s (AHA) daily recommended limit: 24 grams for women and 36 grams for men.

Taking into account sugar from other foods you eat throughout the day, this often puts soda lovers well over safe limits, and too much added sugar has consistently been linked to detrimental health problems.

In fact, a review published in the journal BMJ in April linked high consumption of added sugars, the type of sugar in all of these drinks, to 45 negative health outcomes.

These include diabetes, gout, obesity, high blood pressure, heart attack, stroke, cancer, asthma, tooth decay, depression, and early death.

Researchers at Harvard University observed a group of nearly 100,000 American women over the age of 50 for over 20 years.

They found women who drank one or more sugar-sweetened sodas per day were 85 percent more likely to be diagnosed with liver cancer compared to those who had fewer than one a week.

Daily soda drinkers were also 68 percent more likely to die from liver disease than those who drank three or fewer per month.

America's 25 sweetest drinks RANKED: Mountain Dew had the most sugar of all drinks on the list, while Brisk Lemon Tea had the least. All of the beverages, however, were either well over or close to the daily recommended limit of sugar set by the American Heart Association

While most doctors say sugar-free sodas are healthier, Mr Lagree doesn’t think artificially sweetened beverages, which have been under fire as the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the artificial sweetener aspartame as a ‘possible carcinogen,’ are much better.

‘Now we have artificial sweeteners, so we have the zero this, zero that, but I’m not sure that that stuff is even better for you,’ he said.

‘I don’t like to have all that chemistry in my body as well.’

Instead, his drink of choice is simple.

‘Nothing is better than water,’ he said. ‘You can’t go wrong with it.’

He also opts for chicken, seafood, and a variety of vegetables and grains over fried foods and microwaved meals.

Mr Lagree believes it’s crucial to focus on exercise and diet at the same time rather than overcompensating at the gym for eating junk food.

‘You can’t out-train a bad diet,’ he said.

Brazilian researchers published a study earlier this week suggesting one-in-five premature deaths in the South American nation were tied to processed foods.

Dr Alexandra DiFeliceantonio and Dr Ashley Gearhardt called for them to be regulated similarly to nicotine.

In 1988, Dr Charles Everett Koop, who served as US surgeon general for President Ronald Reagan, published a 600-page report discussing nicotine addiction.

At the time, more than half of US adults smoked cigarettes, but the long-term impacts of their use were relatively unknown.

Dr Koop used three key metrics, compulsive use, mood alteration and reinforcement to determine that nicotine was an addictive substance.

Dr Gearhardt and Dr DiFeliceantonio applied the standards used to determine nicotine was an addictive substance to highly-processed food as well.

The first was compulsive use, which they described as a person wanting to drink sodas and eat these other foods even when they were aware of how unhealthy they are.

‘People want to cut down, people go on diets, and a vast majority of people fail,’ Dr Gearhardt told DailyMail.com.

‘They find it difficult to do so even when they know it’s going to kill them.’

She blamed the fat and sugar contents of the foods for triggering an addictive response in the brain.

While more research into junk food is needed to determine how exactly they impact the brain, she believes the speed at which the body processes them can play a role.

These quick hits are similar to how nicotine, alcohol and cocaine work throughout the body, the researchers said.

The high sugar and fat contents of these foods also impact a person’s dopamine receptors in the brain.

The pair of researchers describe it as a ‘psychoactive’ effect a person will need to consume more highly processed snacks to reach again – just like that of other drugs.

Processed foods also have a ‘reinforcement’ effect, where a person may seek out the foods even when they do not need to.

Dr Gearhardt used the example of a person with healthy food in their fridge choosing to go out and purchase chocolate ice cream because of their addiction.

Anthony Joshua’s next opponent set to be announced TODAY as Eddie Hearn tells boxing fans to ‘stand by’ amid speculation over who could replace Dillian Whyte

  • Eddie Hearn has told boxing fans to ‘stand by’, posting a pic of Anthony Joshua
  • Much speculation has been building over who Joshua’s next opponent could be
  • The news comes as his rematch against Dillian Whyte was cancelled last week

Eddie Hearn has implied that an announcement on Anthony Joshua’s next opponent could be coming on Tuesday.

The 33-year-old was due to meet Dillian Whyte  in the ring on August 12. That bout was cancelled after the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) found ‘adverse analytical findings’ in Whyte’s pre-fight drugs test that was carried out before the rematch.

It has left Joshua without an opponent for the upcoming fight, but his promoters, Matchroom Boxing, have been looking for someone else to step into the ring and face the former heavyweight champion at the O2 Arena on Saturday night.

While Whyte has maintained that he will prove his innocence, fans have been speculating over who his replacement could be, with Derek Chisora, Gerald Washington and Demsey McKean all being touted by some as fighters who could face the 33-year-old

Hearn has returned from his holiday in the Caribbean to find a solution and has now teased boxing fans on Twitter claiming that an update on the situation could be coming on Tuesday.

He posted a picture of Joshua on Twitter with the caption: ‘Update tomorrow morning. Stand by.’

The British fighter would be taking a risk going up against a new opponent at such short notice.

Joshua’s old rival, Andy Ruiz Jr, who notably beat him in 2019, also offered to step in at the last minute.

But according to boxing journalist Dan Rafael on Twitter, multiple heavyweights including Chisora and McKean are in fact not in the running to fight Joshua because they are on the undercard.

He said: ‘Per source, Joshua card will go forward & will move from PPV in UK to part of a regular DAZN sub.

‘I’m not sure who the new opponent is yet but, per source, it isn’t one of the four heavyweights ([Filip]Hrgovic, McKean, Chisora, Washington) already scheduled for the undercard.’

Hearn, meanwhile, was remaining tight-lipped about who the new opponent could be but added that there will be a ‘show on Saturday night’, while also revealing that Joshua was ‘unbelievably calm’ after hearing the news about Whyte’s failed test.

‘I believe that fight will be signed and an announcement made on Monday night or first thing in the morning,’ he said to BBC Radio 5 Live on Monday.

‘The absolute plan is to have a show on Saturday night. It’s a minefield because everyone puts their name in the hat and the credible ones want £10m, a private jet and my left lower limb in the contract.

‘With a week to go before one of the biggest fights of the year I was shocked and dumbfounded. AJ sent me a message which was unbelievably calm,’ the promoter added.

‘AJ is desperate to fight. He has looked unbelievable in camp. I have never seen him in such good shape.

‘The plan is to get the most credible opponent and someone who can test him for Deontay Wilder.

‘At this point, with such short notice, you need more than one plate spinning because people will try to disrupt things or outprice themselves. We have the guy who we think is the right guy, and others who are waiting as well.’

A council’s sex education teaching materials amount to ‘soft porn’, a representative for a women’s rights organisation has claimed, after the council were forced to withdraw some of its recommended teaching material.

Documents seen by MailOnline concerning the lessons included the controversial ‘Genderbread man’ – which shows someone’s gender identity, gender expression and anatomical sex to be different things.

The classes, recommended in Swindon Borough Council’s Relationships and Sex Education Programme, explained that sex is ‘assigned’ at birth.

Caroline Ffiske from Conservatives for Women, a right-wing group which opposes the rights of trans people in single-sex spaces, told MailOnline some of the resources were tantamount to ‘soft porn’.

She said: ‘In the hands of children who are too young, some of these images effectively become soft porn.

‘So that is where we have got to. These images are sexual, and early sexualisation harms children, eroding boundaries and destroying innocence. Now we are normalising ‘trusted adults’ sharing sexual images with children.

‘That teachers and council workers can’t see this shows how untenable this agenda has become.

‘Perhaps it is time to close it down; let parents manage these sensitive and important conversations; and have schools go back to their core remit.’

But now the council has rowed back on their teaching plans – removing the support pack from circulation and waiting for new government guidance.

A Swindon Borough Council spokesperson said: ‘Swindon Borough Council has removed the RSE curriculum support pack which was produced and the link for schools is no longer available.

‘The Department for Education is currently consulting on new guidance for schools, which the Council will consider once received.’

Alongside a diagram of a Genderbread Person, the pack included a map of a ‘Gender Galaxy’ – where gender expression is said to have ‘infinite possibilities’ and Assigned Sex is shown to be separate and divided from Gender Identity.

The second system is shown to have 10 different planets, but a note at the bottom encourages children to: ‘create your own planet (comet or moon!)’.

The guidance also gave the schoolchildren advice on how to make a dental dam – which is used for oral sex.

And other parts of the pack gave advice on how to apply condoms used for anal sex in to the rectum.

It is not claimed that guidance around condoms or dental dams is given to young children.

In the pack, schools were supposed to encourage children as young as 11 to make models of their genitals, sexual organs and bodily fluids from supermarket goods in gender-questioning classes savaged by parents.

In class plans seen by MailOnline, teachers were urged to divide children into two teams and give them items including bananas, pears, walnuts and hand lotion.

The youngsters – all in Year Seven – were then expected to fashion a penis, a uterus, testicles and ‘prostate fluid’ from the ingredients.

Lessons also encouraged the children to ‘imagine they were a different gender’ and what they would look forward to if they were that person.

And in perhaps the most concerning part of the programme teachers were urged not to use the term ‘breasts’.

The document insisted ‘The term chest tissue can be used interchangeably because this language recognises that trans or non-binary people may feel negatively towards their breasts’.

Peter Williams, director of the Family Education Trust, said some sex education classes being taught in schools were becoming dangerous.

He told MailOnline:  ‘The increasing evidence of this kind of material related to sexuality and ‘gender’ being exposed to children in schools through RSE teaching is profoundly disturbing and appalling.

‘The explicit content reported by very understandably outraged and concerned parents normalises sexual behaviour amongst children, breaking down their natural innocence and reticence to such activity and potentially leaving them open to peer abuse and even grooming by adults.

‘Just as worrying is the presence of gender ideology in this same teaching, which also seeks to present the identity dysphoria connected with ‘transgenderism’ as ordinary, and encouraging children at a vulnerable stage of their development into a self-understanding which later may have life-changing and even life-ruining consequences.

‘All this shows how widespread ideology under the guide of RSE is trumping a proper concern for safeguarding, and betraying schools’ duty of care for children in the process. There needs to be total transparency and far fuller engagement with parents and guardians before such material is shown to their children, a related right for them to veto any inappropriate material or withdraw their children from all RSE, and an enabling of parents to fulfil their role as primary educators and carers.’

The lesson plans come against a backdrop of reported incidents among children who had been handed education material.

Examples reportedly led one eight-year-old autistic boy to ‘hump’ his own mother’s leg to ‘give her sperm for a baby’.

In another case, a mother claimed her seven-year-old daughter returned from school with a piece of artwork featuring a teddy bear in bondage gear holding a heart that reads: ‘Spank me.’

The debate on the transparency of material used for RSE lessons has already been pushed in Parliament after Miriam Cates, the MP for Penistone and Stocksbridge introduced a ‘sex education transparency’ Private Members’ Bill in June.

The bill, which is in the second reading in parliament, would create a legal duty for English schools to share materials used in relationships and sex education (RSE) lessons with parents, and prevent schools from using unpublished materials if they are produced by a third-party provider.

A Department for Education spokesperson said: ‘The safety and wellbeing of children and young people is our top priority.

‘Following reports of inappropriate materials being used to teach relationships and sex education, the government has already brought forward an urgent review of the curriculum and is looking at introducing age ratings to make sure teaching materials are appropriate.

‘The Education Secretary has also written to schools to reiterate that parents have a right to view teaching materials and copyright law does not prevent a parent from viewing external resources on school premises.’
