  •  Daicos says players get 8 tickets to the grand final
  •  Pies boss calls for Ticketek to ‘improve system’
  •  This weekend’s AFL grand final is a sellout

Collingwood star Josh Daicos has revealed the number of grand final tickets players receive – as Pies chief executive Craig Kelly calls for Ticketek to ‘improve their system’ and wants an increase in allocation for club members.

Daicos was interviewed on Nova 100’s Ben, Liam & Belle Melbourne breakfast show on Monday morning, where he was asked by Ben how many tickets he’d received for this weekend’s AFL grand final at the MCG.

‘Well, we’re fortunate enough to get, usually during the season we get 4 each, and then for Grand Final we get 8,’ said Daicos.

Liam questioned the footy star if other players received the same amount.

‘No, everyone’s getting that it makes it handy,’ said Daicos.

‘But it does help having obviously Nick because that means that you know to have those tickets mum and dad go to and then we’ve got more or less for maybe a mate or a cousin.’

Meanwhile, Collingwood boss Craig Kelly has called on the AFL to increase club member allocating from 17,000 to 20,000 to meet the growing demands of the league’s biggest clubs that have memberships in excess of 100,000.

Amid the fight for tickets to the decider, Collingwood members who had forked out thousands in membership dollars were given standing room tickets when they should have been allocated a seat by ticket agency Ticketek.

Others who were selected to receive tickets via a ballot had money taken out of their accounts before being allocated tickets, while other members’ credit cards were rejected in what has become an annual problem with grand final ticket delivery.

Kelly addressed the issue on Monday and while he said all Collingwood members who were guaranteed grand final tickets would get them, he called for change to the system and how many tickets competing clubs were allocated.

‘We believe members who contribute their hard earned should be rewarded with a fair opportunity to witness our team on the biggest stage,’ he said in a club statement.

‘We have been working through the situation overnight and have some updates for you.

‘Every single priority one (P1) member who registered for the grand final ballot will receive a ticket to the 2023 AFL grand final.

‘There were 37 P1 Members who did not select the standing room option and, as such, missed out on tickets through the automated ballot – we will sort each of those 37 members directly to ensure they have a seat.

‘Anyone who is a P1 member and were given a standing room ticket – that will be changed from standing room to an allocated seat.

‘We call on Ticketek to improve their system so that the moment funds are taken out of bank accounts, tickets are released to members immediately.

‘We know grand finals are a case of high demand and limited availability, which is why we call on the AFL to increase competing club allocations from 17,000 to at least 20,000 tickets.

‘We want to assure all members that we are actively engaging with the AFL, MCC, Ticketek, and other stakeholders to push for changes and improve this system and access for our most dedicated members.’

Despite the mistakes, Ticketek was adamant it had fulfilled its role in the ballot allocation.

‘Ticketek wants to assure all Collingwood members that the ballot process for the AFL grand final ran as planned, without any issues, and as per the instruction from the AFL, Collingwood Football Club and the MCG,’ a statement from the agency said.

The grand final is a sellout.

Thrilling gang warfare drama Top Boy came to an explosive conclusion earlier this month after more than a decade – with Netflix and Canadian rapper Drake helping to see the series to a satisfying conclusion after it was dropped by Channel 4.

The show became one of Netflix’s most-viewed shows in the week that its third and final season post-renewal went out.

Viewers tuned in to see what became of Ashley Walters’ Dushane and Kane Robinson’s Sully as their warfare with other drug gangs in the fictional Summerhouse estate in Hackney, London, reached a dramatic climax.

But the show had humble beginnings on Channel 4 when it first aired in 2011 – and featured a number of actors who were relative unknowns at the time, and have since gone on to appear in huge Hollywood productions.

Michaela Coel, Letitia Wright and Benedict Wong are among the stars to have used Top Boy as a springboard to launch themselves into Marvel movies, while others have since starred in big dramas, Netflix films and other blockbusters.

It bodes well for the breakout stars of the rebooted series such as Micheal Ward – some of whom are already picking up plaudits across the industry.

One of Letitia Wright’s first on-screen roles was as drug dealer Chantelle in Top Boy (left). She’s now a megastar best known for playing Shuri in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (right)

Michaela Coel

The Ghanaian-British actress, 35, appeared in series two of the show in its Channel 4 era, as Kayla – a woman charged with killing her own boyfriend.

Her 2013 appearance was brief – across just two episodes – but Coel went on to star in E4 sitcom Chewing Gum and Black Earth Rising before writing and starring in I May Destroy You – a powerful BBC drama about a woman seeking to rebuild her life after being raped on a night out that won BAFTAs and a Primetime Emmy.

She famously turned down $1million from Netflix for rights to the show after it refused to let her retain the ownership rights, and was named one of Time magazine’s most influential people. It noted: ‘You don’t just watch Michaela Coel shows; you experience them.’

She published a book, Misfits, based on her experiences of racism and misogyny, in 2021. And since then, she has appeared in Marvel blockbuster Black Panther: Wakanda Forever as Aneka, a member of the royal family’s bodyguards in the fictional African nation of Wakanda.

Letitia Wright

Letitia Wright, 29, appeared in the first series of Top Boy as Chantelle, a drug dealer on the Summerhouse estate. She left after the first series as her character goes to work for a rival gangster.

She also made other early career appearances in the likes of Casualty and Doctor Who – but came to the fore as the star of coming-of-age drama Urban Hymn, set against the backdrop of the 2011 London riots.

An appearance in the Netflix reboot of Black Mirror was then followed by the role that many know her best for – as Shuri, the quick-witted inventor sister of superhero T’Chala in Marvel flick Black Panther.

She made appearances in subsequent comic crossover films Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame – but she was unexpectedly thrust into the lead role of Black Panther sequel Wakanda Forever when star Chadwick Boseman died of cancer and Shuri was written into an expanded role.

Benedict Wong as Vincent in Top Boy - shortly before he was catapulted into global stardom

Wong is now best known for appearing as Wong in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

He most recently appeared opposite Colin Firth and Olivia Coleman in Empire of Light

Micheal Ward appeared in the first rebooted series of Top Boy (on the red carpet, left) and has since appeared opposite Colin Firth in Empire of Light (right)

Benedict Wong

Wong, 52, was a prolific actor before appearing on Top Boy – in radio and on stage, with a role in 2002 thriller Dirty Pretty Things. His profile grew as he appeared in sitcom 15 Storeys High opposite the late Sean Lock with guest appearances on programmes such as The Bill and comedies like The Peter Serafinowicz Show and The IT Crowd.

But it was after his role in Top Boy, as scheming rival drug dealer Vincent, that he was catapulted into stardom and became a fan favourite with Marvel moviegoers as Wong, the sardonic and deadly serious sorcerer who befriends Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange and helps him to master mystical powers.

Appearing in both seasons of the original Channel 4 programme, he recruited characters including Letitia Wright’s to run a cannabis farm.

Around the same time, he began making appearances in big films like Johnny English: Reborn and Alien sci-fi prequel Prometheus. But it is his appearances as Wong in Doctor Strange, its sequel, and other interconnected Marvel films and TV shows that have brought him a huge new audience of adoring fans.

Micheal Ward

The young actor first appeared in Top Boy in the rebooted Netflix series as Jamie – a fearsome rival gangster on the Summerhouse estate – in 2019, at the same time that he appeared in controversial crime drama Blue Story.

The film was at the centre of an incident in Birmingham in which police were attacked by a group armed with machetes; cinema chain Vue later said that 25 incidents of violence were reported in screenings on the first day.

However, Ward was praised for his performances in both Top Boy and the music-led gang film – the latter of which earned him a Rising Star BAFTA – and since then he has appeared opposite Colin Firth and Olivia Coleman in Sam Mendes’ racial drama Empire of Light, and worked with Steve McQueen on his BBC anthology series Small Axe.

Next year, he will appear in The Book of Clarence as part of a star-studded ensemble cast including the likes of David Oyelowo and James McAvoy, and will feature opposite Bill Nighy in sports drama The Beautiful Game.

More recently, he is starred in the likes of Django on Sky Atlantic (above)

Sharon Duncan-Brewster

Duncan-Brewster, 47, was an established TV actor before appearing in Top Boy – appearing as central character Crystal in ITV prison drama Bad Girls, with parts in EastEnders as Trina as well as appearances on Holby City, Waking the Dead and Doctors.

But after appearing in Top Boy as Lisa, mum of central character Ra’Nell in seasons one and two, the actress has appeared in Sex Education, Star Wars prequel Rogue One and even the FIFA series of football games, where she appears as the mother of fictional footballer Alex Hunter as he dreams of making it big in the game.

But she has received high praise following her appearance in Denis Villeneuve’s rebooted Dune as scientist Liet-Kynes. Her performance in the sci-fi flick led to Vanity Fair branding her ‘Dune’s secret weapon’ that ‘brings (her role) to life’.

This year, she has continued her intergalactic ascension with a voice role in Disney+ sci-fi series Star Wars: The Bad Batch.

Nicholas Pinnock

Pinnock, 50, had long established himself as a stage actor but prior to Top Boy had made only guest appearances in UK programmes such as Casualty, Doctors, EastEnders and Holby City.

But it was when he appeared as central character Leon in series one of Top Boy that his career found new energy. His reformed gangster spent his episodes trying to warn others off of a life of drug-dealing, with tragic consequences. He then went on to appear in The Ice Cream Girls on ITV.

In 2020, he starred in legal drama For Life, as a man who obtains a law degree behind bars while serving time for a crime he didn’t commit, which was produced by rapper Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson. Pinnock previously told Hollywood news website Gold Derby that Top Boy won him the role – because the musician was a fan.

He is currently appearing in Sky Atlantic series Django, a reimagining of the classic Italian spaghetti western from the 1960s.

Paul Anderson

Anderson, 44, appeared in Top Boy in 2013.as Mike, a psychotic would-be rival drug dealer to main character Dushane, fresh out of prison after committing armed robbery.

A year later, he starred in Troubles drama ’71 before appearing in The Revenant alongside Leonardo Di Caprio.

Now, he’s best known for starring opposite Cillian Murphy as his right-hand man, Arthur Shelby, in Peaky Blinders, and appeared in the modernised 2018 Hollywood retelling of Robin Hood.

Weruche Opia

Weruche Opia appeared in the second series of Top Boy as drug dealer Nafisa – before landing roles in hits like Bad Education and surreal BBC anthology series Inside No. 9.

These led to a leading role in Michaela Coel’s I May Destroy You as Terry, the best friend of Coel’s character Arabella, who tries to help her piece together the events of the night that she was raped. Opia has since appeared in Netflix film Slumberland, and appeared as herself in an episode of the most recent series of Black Mirror.

Opia has since distanced herself from her Top Boy role as well as her appearance on Bad Education, disparaging the parts as ‘stereotypical young black girl’ roles. She told The Observer in 2020: ‘I did it for a while – in [the TV series] Bad Education, in Top Boy – but then I made a conscious decision and told my team I didn’t want to do those roles any more.’

Saffron Hocking

Up-and-coming actress Hocking, 31, appeared in the rebooted Netflix series of Top Boy as Lauryn, a pregnant mum-to-be who suffers domestic abuse before taking matters into her own hands. She has been nominated for a TV BAFTA for her role.

Prior to her role in the series, she appeared in Strangeways Here We Come – but since taking to the Netflix drama she has appeared in Marvel Disney+ series Moon Knight as well as Prime Video series Riches and The Devil’s Hour.

She also appeared as the cover star on the digital edition of this month’s Cosmopolitan UK, speaking about how she has become an ambassador for domestic abuse charity Refuge after consulting the non-profit while researching for her Top Boy role.

Five of Manchester United players have been brutally handed woeful grades by German newspaper Bild following their performances in their 4-3 defeat by Bayern Munich.

Erik ten Hag‘s men were well-beaten by Harry Kane‘s Bayern on Wednesday night despite the close scoreline and the defeat means the struggling Red Devils have now lost four of their first six games in 2023-24, including three in a row.

And nearly half of United’s starting XI for the clash at the Allianz Arena have been given Bild’s second-lowest grade possible in their player ratings following the game.

Four of the five United players given a ‘5’ by Bild – with 1 being their best rating and 6 being the worst – were predictably in defence after Bayern picked them apart with ease.

United’s new £47.2million goalkeeper Andre Onana was given the low score for his calamitous mistake for Bayern’s first goal, after Leroy Sane‘s shot squirmed under his gloves and rolled into the back of his net.

He has now leaked 14 goals in six games since replacing David de Gea.

Both centre backs, Lisandro Martinez and Victor Linelof, were also given the paltry scores while Diogo Dalot was hammered for his performance by the German newspaper.

Facundo Pellistri also failed to escape the damning low score as he filled in for Antony on the right-hand side.

Ten Hag himself received the second-lowest rating possible despite his side’s late comeback that left them to within one goal of tying it up in the dying moments.

Sergio Reguilon and Christian Eriksen were both give 4s while the rest of United’s starting XI – Ramus Hojlund, Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro – all received the average score of 3 by Bild.

And it wasn’t just the German press that laid into the Red Devils following the shocking defensive display in Munich.

Spanish sports newspaper Marca ruthlessly labelled United a ‘small team’ after shipping four goals.

Marca’s Ramon Garcia wrote: ‘The Dutch coach [Ten Hag] closes one of the most difficult weeks in memory at Old Trafford for the Red Devils in Munich. Manchester United came out to the Allianz Arena as the big team it is supposed to be, but each blow from Bayern turned it into a small one little by little.’

French news outlet L’Equipe – famous for their own brutal player ratings – claimed the result plunged United a ‘little deeper into crisis’ while Italian paper La Gazzetta dello Sport echoed Paul Scholes’ comments, claiming the team ‘collapsed psychologically’.

United went 2-0 down at the Allianz Arena after Onana’s howler gifted Sane the opener in the 28th minute before Serge Gnabry doubled the host’s advantage four minutes later.

They pulled one back through new £72million striker Hojlund but again wilted after Kane’s controversial penalty restored Bayern’s two-goal lead.

Casemiro scored two late goals for Ten Hag’s team, either side of Mathys Tel adding a fourth for the hosts in stoppage time.

Speaking on TNT Sports, former Man United star Scholes claimed his former side were guilty of collapsing in adversity.

Scholes conceded United had done well to score three times against the German champions on their home turf but believes Bayern could have inflicted even more damage on Ten Hag’s under-pressure team.

‘There is a weakness to them,’ Scholes said. ‘There is a soft underbelly and they do seem to collapse a bit when things are going wrong.

Erik ten Hag was also given a low score by Bild in their ratings on Wednesday

‘They scored three goals and that is good, but I felt Bayern could then turn it on and score another.

‘I thought there was a big distance between the teams, in that second half especially.

‘First half I thought they did well but still conceded two goals through a lack of concentration.

‘There is experience in the team but I don’t think it is being used. Concentration in Europe is so important, once you concede one goal, it can turn into two and three.

‘None of those centre halves are saying “look Casemiro and Eriksen get in here”.

‘Are Casemiro and Eriksen saying to the wide players come in next to me, lets calm the game down?’

The result only heaps more pressure on Ten Hag, who is facing huge issues both on and off the pitch as he desperately tries to turn the club around.

  • Bizarre sight occurred at opposed session
  • Storm are heavy underdogs for preliminary final
  • Both sides have stars returning from injury

Melbourne have taken their preparation for Friday night’s do-or-die finals clash with Penrith to new heights by taking the unusual step of getting several of their stars to wear the opposition’s jerseys at training.

The reigning premiers are clear favourites to win through to the grand final when the sides meet, with the Storm coming into the match on the back of a close win over the Roosters after being hammered 26-0 by Brisbane to start their finals campaign.

Images of Melbourne players including Tepai Moeroa and George Jennings wearing the Panthers’ strip have been revealed on social media, with the photos taken at an opposed session the team held recently.

Opposed sessions are used by footy teams to get as close as possible to match-day conditions and this one saw the club’s reserve players in the Penrith colours as they competed against the first-string stars.

The Storm have lost five matches in a row to Penrith and the use of the tops shows coach Craig Bellamy is trying every trick in the book to get his team over the line and into their fourth grand final since 2016.

Keen observers will note that the Panthers tops aren’t official match-day gear, but rather part of the team’s training kit.

Some footy fans reacted by applauding the move once the photos started going viral.

‘Bellyache.. masterstroke,’ one wrote, using Bellamy’s nickname.

‘You can bet your last dollar the Storm will be well prepared,’ another supporter added.

Others took the opportunity to find some humour in the strange sight of players wearing their rivals’ gear.

‘Did they buy the jerseys at Best n Less? Missing a few sponsors,’ one fan quipped.

‘Easily the best part about this is that they’re not jerseys or official apparel but instead are black t shirts that appear to have iron on motifs of our logo, sponsors and stripes … did they all go home and iron on their own,’ another speculated.

‘Funniest part about this is that the club will have forked out cash to pay for them,’ joked a third supporter.

Meanwhile, both sides have named injured stars for the clash at Sydney’s Accor Stadium.

Halfback Jahrome Hughes (pictured) had to sit out his team's narrow win over the Roosters last week with a calf injury, but is a very welcome inclusion for Friday night's final

The focus will remain firmly on Panthers five-eighth Luai and Storm halfback Hughes right until kick-off at Accor Stadium on Friday.

Luai hasn’t been sighted in the NRL since he suffered a dislocated shoulder in the penultimate round of the regular season, but is on track to return against the Storm.

The Panthers have soldiered on with Jack Cogger filling the void to partner Nathan Cleary, the former part of Penrith’s extended squad should Luai fail to pull through.

Centre Izack Tago has also overcome a pectoral injury to be named by Panthers coach Ivan Cleary.

Melbourne will hope to welcome Hughes back into the fold, too, after the Kiwi international missed their semi-final win over the Sydney Roosters with a calf injury.

Hughes told reporters earlier this week he was confident he would be able to feature as the Storm aim to topple a Penrith side who have had their measure in four of the last five meetings.

Tyran Wishart moves to the bench with Hughes’ inclusion and could find himself starting for Harry Grant, who thrived against the Roosters when injected from the bench.

Winger Xavier Coates (ankle) remains sidelined for the Storm and is not named in their 22-man squad.

Supermodels, acting legends, royalty and some of the biggest names in showbusiness gathered at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane for the Vogue World Show.

Billed as a ‘multi-act celebration of the British performing arts’, the glittering one-off extravaganza saw Rita Ora, Sienna Miller and Winnie Harlow leading the stars on the red carpet on Thursday.

Model Winnie, 29, exuded glamour in a plunging black velvet gown with a statement white satin coat which brought plenty of drama with its puffed up neckline, while Rita, 32, turned heads in a black fishtail dress, but it proved difficult to walk in.

Sienna Miller, who is expecting her second child – her first with boyfriend  Oli Green, 26 – pushed maternity style boundaries as she showed off her bump in a crop top and puff ball skirt.

Editor-in-chief, Dame Anna Wintour arrived alongside British Vogue’s own editor, Edward Enninful

The Mail on Sunday reported Enninful had hoped one day to replace Wintour, but the Vogue Editor-In-Chief is determined to stay put and will ‘swat any rivals off like a fly’.

The bash comes just three months after the shock announcement the British-Ghanaian former model and fashion stylist is to step down as editor-in-chief of British Vogue after six years at the helm.

When he leaves at the beginning of 2024, Enninful will take up a ‘global advisory position’ at Vogue, ‘with the freedom to take on broader creative projects’.

‘He made no secret of wanting the big job [global editorial director] but he hit the glass ceiling and he’d gone as far as he could go,’ explains the Vogue insider.

‘He thought he would be in London for a few years and then head for New York, but he now knows that he’s never going to get Anna’s job at Condé Nast.

‘Anna is the undisputed boss. She has seen off many rivals and continues to do so. She could swat him like a fly.’

A fashion source put it more bluntly: ‘I think Edward underestimated her power. He had so much smoke blown up his a**e when he was appointed editor that he couldn’t see his own trousers.’

And it was a busy week for the Princess Beatrice of York and husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi as they headed to the party, after attending the V&A Chanel Exhibition the night prior.

Lady Victoria Hervey pulled out all the stops for the event as she arrived in a white embroidered lace gown with dramatic train.

Thursday’s event will serve as a fundraiser for Britain’s performing arts industry, with Vogue’s Editor-in-Chief Anna overseeing proceedings.

The first Vogue World event featured a fashion show and street fair when it took place in New York’s meatpacking district in 2021, but the London ceremony is expected to be a grander affair.

The dress code will be Opening Night, with the invitation revealed a West End stage decorated with by blood-red velvet curtains.

Masterminded by BAFTA and Olivier-winning director Stephen Daldry, show director Emily Burns, and creative producer Fran Miller, along with the Vogue team, the evening will feature a vast array of performing arts.

Guests will watch opera and ballet and theatre at the event which sits at the start of London Fashion Week and acts to unveil and showcase talent.

Contributing designers for the guests and performers include 16Arlington, Ahluwalia, Burberry, Charles Jeffrey LOVERBOY, Erdem, Maison Margiela, and SS Daley, among many other fashion giants.

Wintour previously claimed the performing arts industry is “under threat'” meaning all proceeds from ticket sales will go to a range of theatre companies – among them the National Theatre, Royal Opera House and the Royal Ballet.

  • Ben Stokes reached the highest score in England’s one-day history
  • He smashed 182 off 124 balls, hitting 24 boundaries in the process
  • Dawid Malan also impressed, falling just four runs short of a century

Ben Stokes would have been forgiven for putting his feet up after an epic Ashes series, but that is not how this remarkable cricketer operates.

Not yet a week into his one-day resurrection, and amid murmurs about a top-order crisis ahead of the World Cup, he spanked New Zealand for 182 – the highest score by an England player in 782 one-day internationals stretching back 52 years.

There were 15 fours and nine sixes in 124 balls of mayhem, handshakes from the fielders, and a standing ovation from an appreciative crowd. Above all, there was a sense – ominous for opponents – that Stokes is primed to help England defend their title in India. It is bizarre to think he had never previously passed 102.

With Dawid Malan contributing a high-class 96, England could accommodate a late collapse of six for 32 and still make 368. Thanks to a superb opening burst from Chris Woakes, New Zealand got nowhere near, bowled out for 187.

Victory at Lord’s tomorrow will give England a 3-1 win – a flag in the turf before these sides meet again to kickstart the World Cup in Ahmedabad on October 5.

But when Stokes is in this mood, it may be better simply to enjoy the moment. And, having led England to an Ashes-squaring victory here in late July, he now gave a packed Oval its second treat of the summer.

When Trent Boult reduced England to 13 for two – including the wicket of Jonny Bairstow, caught at square leg from the game’s first ball – it was tempting to wonder whether the top order had chosen a bad moment to unravel.

Jason Roy’s plans for a first international appearance since March had already been ended by a back spasm. And because the World Cup 15 could be finalised as early as this weekend, he may yet make way for Harry Brook. England’s Indian itinerary is heavy on internal flights, and Roy’s bad back may be a risk they are unwilling to take.

Joe Root, meanwhile, had been bowled off the edge for four, leaving him with 10 runs in three innings and confirming the suspicion he has long been undercooked as a 50-over batsman. This was only his 18th ODI innings since England won the World Cup four years ago, in which time he has averaged 27, with a strike-rate of 78.

But Malan, playing only because Roy was incapacitated, and Stokes glossed over concerns in a thumping stand of 199 inside 28 overs, ended only when Boult insisted on a review after Malan offered the faintest of leg-side tickles.

By then, Stokes had already brought up his fourth ODI hundred, and first for six years. It had taken him 76 balls; his next 82 runs needed only 48. It hardly seemed to matter that he was intermittently flexing his left knee.

He ended up hitting Lockie Ferguson, New Zealand’s fastest bowler, for 10 fours alone, although he didn’t clear the fence until he had reached 63. Then he cut loose, clouting spinners Rachin Ravindra and Glenn Phillips for three sixes each, and treating The Oval like his personal playpen.

Soon he was ticking off Roy’s England-record 180 against Australia at Melbourne in 2017-18, thanks to a huge leg-side six off left-arm seamer Ben Lister. Two balls later, Stokes miscued a full toss to deep square. England await their first one-day double-hundred.

Jos Buttler had thrashed 38 before he was caught slog-sweeping a delivery from Phillips that was perilously close to being a back-foot no-ball. But no one else passed 12 as Boult survived the carnage to take five for 51, and England’s hopes of 400 vanished in a hurry.

It proved academic. Woakes took three wickets in an exemplary eight-over opening spell, and Reece Topley pinned the dangerous Devon Conway.

From 37 for four, there was no way back, especially after Sam Curran had Daryl Mitchell – New Zealand’s best batsman while Kane Williamson continues his recovery from injury – caught behind on review for 17.

Phillips made a fighting 72, but Stokes almost outscored New Zealand by himself.

Thousands of freshly-trained medics join the NHS every year after five years in medical school.

But it was revealed this week that, rather than working in the health service, a third of those in training plan to flee the UK in favour of working in the likes of Australia, New Zealand and Canada in a bid for better pay and work-life balance.

One in 33 students even plan to leave medicine altogether.

Among the medics vacating the health service include those jetting off to use their skills abroad and those becoming social media stars or joining OnlyFans – with some earning millions.

Moved to Australia

Dr Michael Mrozinski says he felt exhausted after working in the NHS for seven years.

The medic, 37, says that during his time as a junior doctor in Glasgow, the NHS couldn’t ‘care less’ about his ideas for providing better patient care.

On TikTok, the Scot explained that by age 30 he was ‘completely burnt out’.

He said he saw far too many patients, was snowed under with paperwork and always left an hour or two after finishing.

Dr Mrozinski said: ‘That just wasn’t sustainable for me.

‘So I decided to get away from the NHS, to move out to Australia and it is the best decision I have ever made.’

The medic started working in Australia in 2016. He said his work-life balance is far more sustainable and his more senior colleagues even ‘scolded him for not taking his coffee breaks’ or staying 20 minutes after his shift.

Became a Youtube star

Dr Ali Abdaal, 29, studied medicine for six years at Cambridge University and worked as a junior doctor for a further two.

During his studies, he set up a YouTube channel, creating content around medicine and his degree.

But eight years into working for the NHS, he was earning £40,000 a year as a medic while he claims his YouTube account made him millions.

He said: ‘This year we are expecting the business to probably make around £2million in profit.’

‘The money equation here is completely asymmetrical,’ he added.

He explained that he would have eventually reached a salary of £100,000 working for the NHS after specialising, but that wouldn’t be for many years.

Dr Abdaal revealed that while he did enjoy his job as a doctor, he did not look forward to going to work on a Monday morning.

He said now he genuinely looks forward to going to work every day and rushes through his morning routine just to sit at his desk and work on ‘doing his own thing’.

Joined OnlyFans

Michaela Ogilvie, from Ramsgate, left her role as an NHS mental health social worker earlier this year.

The 32-year-old made the decision after becoming ‘depressed’ by her work.

She said: ‘I enjoy it so much more than social work – it’s so freeing.

‘For me it’s about taking back control.’

Became a life coach

Dr Helena Bridge, who worked as an NHS junior doctor in Oxford, says she was often left ‘sobbing and hyperventilating’ while working as a junior doctor.

She said she was overwhelmed with calls and a long list of urgent tasks, which left her ‘scared’ in case she made a mistake that cost someone their life.

After nearly a decade in medicine, she took the ‘ultimate risk’ and left the NHS last year.

The neuroscience graduate became a life coach instead and has since set up her own business.

Dr Bridge said: ‘I am definitely not anti-medicine, but I am anti-suffering.’

‘The system feels like a sinking ship’, Helena added.

‘I would not want to continue working in a health care system like this, because I couldn’t provide to my patients the kind of care standards that I would want for my own family or friends or for myself.

‘I don’t dehumanise patients, I don’t see them as a tick box on a list of todo things. I value people’s quality of life, I value that they are not in pain.’

For a long time, it was a mystery how Jho Low – a rather unassuming Malaysian businessman – became ingratiated with some of the biggest names in showbusiness.

However, when it was revealed that he was lavishing them with gifts, funding their projects and inviting them to Great Gatsby-esque parties across the globe, it became easier to understand why stars kept him around.

Instead, the mystery became how it was that Low could afford his free-spending lifestyle. There was one answer to this question, too: the embezzlement of 1MDB.

Several pictures captured Low rubbing shoulders with the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Alicia Keys and Paris Hilton – suggesting that despite often looking out of his depth, he had a knack for making friends in high places.

The suit-wearing 41-year-old was educated at Harrow, one of England’s most exclusive public schools, and he showered movie stars, models and singers with gifts beyond imagining for anyone who doesn’t have access to billions of pounds.

For a long time, questions have hung over how Jho Low (pictured) - a rather stumpy Malaysian businessman - became ingratiated with some of the biggest names in showbusiness. However, when it was revealed that he was lavishing them with gifts, it became easier to understand why stars kept him around

For a long time, questions have hung over how Jho Low (pictured) – a rather stumpy Malaysian businessman – became ingratiated with some of the biggest names in showbusiness. However, when it was revealed that he was lavishing them with gifts, it became easier to understand why stars kept him around

For Australian beauty Miranda Kerr – understood to have been in a relationship with Low in 2014 – he splashed £6 million on jewellery and a crystal piano.

He also once told Kim Kardashian that she could keep his £200,000 casino winnings, and paid £800,000 to Britney Spears to jump out of his birthday cake.

Tales have also told of a single night in St Tropez where Low spent £1.5 million on Champagne, and of another occasion when he flew stars from a New Years Eve party in Australia to another in Las Vegas.

Perhaps his most notable associate was Leonardo DiCaprio – one of Hollywood’s biggest and most recognisable stars.

Low’s film production firm funded the actor’s 2013 box office hit The Wolf Of Wall Street, and he purchased a $30 million mansion close to DiCaprio’s in Hollywood.

He also gifted DiCaprio a £2.5 million Picasso painting and invited him to several parties.

However, Low’s high-flying world came crashing down around him in October 2016 when Interpol published a red notice at Singapore’s request to locate and arrest him.

He has since been charged in Malaysia and the United States for allegedly masterminding the theft of $4.5 billion from state fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), and is an international fugitive.

He has consistently denied wrongdoing.

It was with this money, authorities say, that he purchased the extravagant gifts for the likes of Kerr and DiCaprio, bought properties and paid for debauched parties.

Now, a new documentary titled Man On The Run – set to be released in cinemas next Friday – has delved into his fraud.

The documentary is the culmination of years of digging into Low and his associates by British investigative journalist Clare Rewcastle Brown and America’s FBI, and has uncovered Low’s trail of corruption that added to Malaysia’s crippling debt.

Perhaps his most notable associate was Leonardo DiCaprio - one of Hollywood's biggest and most recognisable stars. Low's film production firm funded the actor's 2013 box office hit The Wolf Of Wall Street. The pair are picture together attending the film's world premier

A Malaysian-Chinese born on the island of Penang whose grandfather was from southern China’s Guangdong, Low once described himself on his website as a ‘global investor and philanthropist’ with experience in many companies, financings and projects in media, entertainment, retailing, hospitality and real estate.

Educated at Harrow, the elite British prep school, and later at Wharton, his family is said to have made its fortune in mining, trading and garment manufacturing.

While at Harrow, he became friends with Riza Aziz, stepson of former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, who set up 1MDB to support the country’s economy.

But Najib was ousted in an election upset in 2018 after former leader Mahathir Mohamad, outraged by the scandal, came out of political retirement.

Mahathir reopened a probe into the 1MDB fund, and Najib is currently serving a 12 year prison sentence over his involvement. The Fugees rapper Pras Michel and two Goldman Sachs bankers have also been jailed over the 1MDB scandal.

However, the whereabouts of Low – who went on the run – remains unknown.

Malaysian authorities have previously said Low was believed to be in China, though Beijing has denied it. Others have suggested he is somewhere in the Middle East.

It means that to this day, he has not faced justice for the fraud.

Low first gained the attention of the public eye in 2009, the same year 1MDB was founded, when it was reported how he had sent 23 bottles of Champagne to Hollywood star Lindsay Lohan who was celebrating her 23rd birthday.

A year later, socialite Paris Hilton was seen sunbathing on his yacht in France, and in 2011 he invited stars including Lady Gaga, Beyonce and Jay-Z to a Beverly Hills party.

Documents recently released by the FBI also show that he once gave Kim Kardashian £83,000 to spend on fireworks, and how her ex-husband Kanye West was on the guest list to his 30th birthday party in Las Vegas in 2012.

A year later, he was snapped posing with Alicia Keys on a red carpet, on the way in to a charity ball in New York City.

But speaking to The Sun ahead of the release of the documentary, Rewcastle Brown says what caught her eye was Low’s involvement in Martin Scorsese’s Wolf Of Wall Street – a movie that is itself about financial fraud.

It was Low and Aziz’s Red Granite Pictures which released the film.

The reporter suspected the pair were getting the funds from 1MDB, which at the time was rumoured to be in deep debt.

‘I was waging a Twitter war with Leonardo DiCaprio from the launch of the movie, saying, ‘You better know there is suspicion about the money behind your movie’,’ Rewcastle Brown tells The Sun.

Instead, she was threatened with legal action and DiCaprio thanked Low in his Golden Globe speech when accepting the best actor award for his role in the film.

Despite the threats, Rewcastle Brown persisted with her reporting.

This made her even more enemies, with Malaysia attempting to have her placed on the Interpol Red Notice list for the ‘terrorism’ of her journalism.

Thankfully, the international body refused.

Rewcastle Brown tells The Sun that she was also followed by private detectives and was even warned that her life was in danger.

Others were also targeted.

In the documentary, Malaysian opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim, 76, and whistle-blower Xavier Justo, 55, a Swiss banker, say they were jailed for exposing Low.

Eventually, Low’s extravagance caught up with him. In 2016, US special agents filed a civil lawsuit in a bid to reclaim billions stolen from the 1MDB fund.

They revealed £250 million had been spent on a yacht, £30 million on works of art, and £4 million on diamonds for Razak’s wife.

The Department of Justice also traced $100 million from a deal with PetroSaudi to the purchase of properties in Hollywood, and $40 million to apartments in New York.

DiCaprio is reported to have returned the Picasso he was gifted by Low, as well as a Basquiat painting worth £7 million, while Kerr returned the jewellery.

The DoJ is also understood to have seized royalties from the Wolf Of Wall Street, as well as two other films Red Granite Pictures helped finance.

There is no suggestion of wrongdoing by any of the celebrities linked to Low.

It is now believed that Low was using his associations with big-name celebrities to help strike deals across the globe. Investigators have linked him to deals with China, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait.

In a trial this year of Fugees star Michel, he revealed that Low was also trying to influence politics in America, particularly related to the president.

Michel was accused of funnelling money from a now-fugitive Malaysian financier through straw donors to Barack Obama’s 2012 reelection campaign, then trying to squelch a Justice Department investigation and influence an extradition case on behalf of China under the Trump administration.

In May, a jury in Washington DC, found him guilty of all 10 counts, including conspiracy and acting as an unregistered agent of a foreign government.

Michel testified in his own defence. He said Low wanted a picture with Obama in 2012 and was willing to pay millions of dollars to get it.

Michel agreed to help and used some of the money he got to pay for friends to attend fundraising events. No one had ever told him that was illegal, he said.

DiCaprio, a former friend of Michel’s, gave evidence on behalf of prosecutors.

The rapper is currently awaiting sentencing.

Meanwhile, Malaysian former prime minister Razak is serving 12 years in jail. He nevertheless pins all the blame on Low, telling the upcoming documentary: ‘I trusted in the wrong people but the system failed me.’

As for the charges against Razak’s stepson and Low’s former associate Aziz, Malaysian prosecutors dropped them in May 2020 after reaching a settlement.

Goldman Sachs banker Roger Ng was sentenced to ten years in prison in March, and his colleague Tim Leissner is awaiting sentencing.

But while those accused of helping Low suffer the consequences, the supposed mastermind behind the fraud remains on the run.

Reports suggest that Low fled to Antarctica on his yacht after he was first linked to the 1MDB fraud by US officials, and in 2019 some say he was spotted in Shanghai.

He has been rumoured to be in other locations including the United Arab Emirates.

Whether he will ever be brought to justice, remains to be seen.

Rewcastle Brown believes he may never be caught.

‘I’m very sceptical Jho Low is still with us,’ she told The Sun.

‘He has so much toxic information about deals with China, and they can’t have him going to a Western court room to spill all this,’ she said.
