Popstars and actors may be the first people that come to mind when thinking of megafans.

But you may be surprised to know that one man has been crowned the world’s ultimate Apple superfan in an international competition held by SellCell.

Software engineer, David Freedman, triumphed over 1,000 candidates with a collection of more than 100 devices at his Kansas home.

The 29-year-old’s impressive shrine is worth a whopping $36,000 (£29,035), and even includes a pair of glasses crafted by Steve Jobs’ former optician.

But David’s love for the tech giant doesn’t stop there – as he’s even named his daughter after the Apple co-founder’s child, Lisa.

‘I’m extremely proud and humbled to bring the title to Apple’s home country. A lifetime of being called an “Apple Sheep” has finally paid off,’ he said.

‘Apple is so much more than just a company to me. It is a community and an ecosystem that touches so many aspects of my life.

‘Every time Tim Cook steps out on stage to unveil a new product feels like Christmas morning.’

David’s passion for Apple kickstarted when he was just a teenager while writing letters to Steve Jobs.

‘I was inspired by the story of when Steve Jobs was in high school and called Bill Hewlett asking for spare electronic components,’ he said.

‘Not only was he given the parts, but also an internship at Hewlett-Packard. I was hopeful that I could gain a similar opportunity.

‘Unfortunately, the replies from Steve’s PA were lost well over a decade ago. I do still have a few pieces of him, in a sense though.’

Today, every room in David’s house is painted in each of the six colours from one of Apple’s first ever logos.

Every door, fan, lock, camera and TV is also controlled by Apple’s HomeKit technology, while Siri is used to open the garage and control the heating.

‘My house matches the six-colour Apple logo which highlighted the graphics capabilities of the Apple II in 1977,’ he continued.

‘I received lots of concerned comments from friends and family about how I would be hurting the resale value or how hideous it would turn out.

‘I wasn’t going to let any of that stop me from having a house that I was happy with, though.’

Although David’s proud to have earned the Apple superfan title, he admits that it’s difficult to find a partner who likes it too.

‘I have a seven-year-old daughter named Elizabeth (or Lisa for short) – Steve Jobs’ daughter’s name and the name of the first computer Apple released with a graphical user interface.

‘But I’m currently single – it’s hard finding a partner who is okay with coming in second to Apple.’

David was awarded a new Series 9 watch after scoring all answers correctly in the fastest time as part of an Apple-themed contest.

He added: ‘You’d think a person who already owns over 100 different Apple products couldn’t possibly be excited to get another one, but I always am.

‘Not only as something practical that I will get use out of but also for what it symbolizes.

‘It will be an honor to wear it and I’ll surely brag about it to anyone I can get to listen.’

A young Australian woman has revealed a long list of holiday fails which threatened to derail her recent girls’ trip to Europe.

The list includes luggage, broken ankles, and pizza so bad the eight women still can’t talk about the revolting cheese topping without gagging.

Izzy Fraser, 24, spent months planning the dream four-week holiday – but says everything that could go wrong did.

She finds it funny to look back on but also wants others to learn from her mistakes.

She told FEMAIL while there were way more curveballs than she could have ever expected she still had the best holiday of her life.

The novice traveler has only been overseas three times and said the trip hasn’t spoiled her will to explore – she will just do carry-on only to avoid half the hassle next time.

The girls hadn’t even left Australia before their problems began, something she now looks back and laughs about.

Two members of the group had forgotten to book luggage on the flight over and had to fork out an extra $250 to check in, she said on TikTok.

Izzy Fraser said the world appeared to turn against her and her seven mates during the trip - but despite a long list of avoidable challenges she had the best time ever

Then at the first stop Izzy, who had never been to Europe before, either had an allergic reaction or was bitten by bed bugs.

‘I am still not sure which one it was, but I blamed the lady at the accommodation for bed bugs, obviously,’ she added.

‘That lasted like five days, it was so uncomfortable,’ she added.

The girls also ‘lost’ their luggage for ten days during the trip – and because some of them didn’t keep boarding passes proving the inconvenience to their insurance companies was more difficult.

‘I haven’t even tried to do that (insurance) yet because I literally couldn’t comprehend that overseas,’ she said.

Then the group had ‘really dodgy’ accommodation in Zagreb, Croatia. The area felt unsafe, the staff were unhelpful and to make matters worse when they ordered in some pizza it was inedible.

‘The cheese was, I can’t even talk about it,’ she said gagging, adding that she doesn’t think she will be able to eat Margherita pizza again.

The 24-year-old said the fact they enjoyed themselves is hilarious given how much 'went wrong'

Everyone got some kind of virus on the trip too, she explained, saying she was unwell first before everyone else followed suit.

A near-miss moments after getting a hire car rounded out the first of four videos where she runs through the bad things which happened on the trip.

The group also delayed the rest of their trip by a day, staying in Zagreb for an extra night after the airport said their luggage would probably arrive then.

‘Obviously it didn’t so that was a waste of money,’ she said.

She added they did move places for the extra night because they didn’t want to stay in the ‘hood’ any longer.

The delayed luggage meant the girls had 45 minutes to go shopping for a five day festival on day three of their trip.

‘This is eight girls running around, like I was sweating, I was sprinting around this shopping centre buying the most silly things,’ she said.

They also got a parking ticket and said it took them three weeks to work out how to pay it.

On the trip there were plenty of delayed buses and planes.

‘Most of my flights were delayed, the buses were just super inconsistent,’ she said.

She had the best time despite all of the travel issues

She had the best time despite all of the travel issues

Especially in Greece where she added they just come along whenever they want.

In the Croatian city of Dubrovnik the friends had more accommodation woes.

She described the man who worked at their lodgings as super creepy, and said she felt unsafe in the car as he sped through the streets while on his mobile phone.

‘Nearly hit a car then leaned across [and said] “I keep you safe” – well I don’t feel safe love,’ she said.

The accommodation wasn’t what was pictured so the friends ran away and found something else.

‘This was at midnight,’ she said, explaining they were also ripped off 100 Euros and were being laughed at on the street as they figured out what to do.

In part three the young woman said a day after a ‘really chaotic day’ the group was on a boat trip when another passenger broke an ankle.

She said the woman had to be carried off the boat and people had to look after her kids, with the whole episode pushing the tour 30 minutes behind schedule.

‘I was just like OMG that could have easily been one of us, because of the track record.’

The group weren’t even meant to be on that boat but the one they had initially booked cancelled five minutes before it was due to depart.

They also had a terrifying jet boat ride: ‘Didn’t expect to nearly lose my life’.

The group also picked a 2am bus by mistake.

At the end of the trip they then lost their luggage again – just for two days.

Her friend also got a massive electric shock which made her shake and bounce onto the bed. Her hand was then hurting for days.

Two members of the group had forgotten to book luggage on the flight over and had to fork out an extra $250 to check in

In the final video Izzy said she lost her AirPods, immediately after losing her luggage.

‘I just wanted to listen to some music, could have cried,’ she said.

The friend who almost got electrocuted had another injury after trying to open a drink without a bottle opener.

The lid came off with force and smacked her in the eye.

Izzy hurt herself twice in two days, the first time she was in the ocean when boats sped past her, making waves which beat her against the rocks.

Then she fell over in the middle of the street with he backpack on, hurting her knee.

To her embarrassment there was a very busy restaurant opposite and cars had to stop for her – meaning far too many eyes were trained in her direction.

She was also hungry a lot of the trip because she is lactose intolerant and gluten free, making a lot of the food off limits.

Izzy said she had the time of her life and wouldn’t change a thing.

Next she shared a snap of herself and Ocean at the beach with the Give Them Lala author wearing a bandeau top and jeans and her toddler in a red and white hibiscus print outfit.

The next video clip is of Lala patiently trying to explain to her daughter that, yes, her name is Lala but she’s also ‘Mama.’

Ocean says: ‘You’re Lala and Mama,’ as she snacks on a piece of fruit, adding: ‘Its so funny.’

The next image is an adorable photo of Ocean in a hot pink onesie sitting on the floor in front of an array of colorful building blocks.

The podcast host also shared a photo of herself snuggling with her daughter. They are both wearing tank tops and the little girl’s nose is scrunched up adorably.

The final video in the post shows Lala giving Ocean swimming lessons in the pool of their apartment complex.

The video starts off with the toddler swimming a short distance away from her mother towards the edge of the pool.

Ocean walked around the pool lounger to stand on the edge of the pool. Her mother encouraged her to jump in and swim to her.

She looked darling as she motioned for her mother to come closer to her so that she would feel safer.

Once Lala was an acceptable distance away, Ocean jumped in and swam the short distance on her own.

The final photo in the post shows the cute little girl in leopard print pajamas. She is smiling as she shows off her blue manicure.

Lala first shared a photo of herself wearing the black bikini and sparkling, see-through miniskirt look she wore to the Valley Brat clothing brand party earlier this week.

She captioned the series of snaps and videos: ‘A little bit of life lately. I brought my bum out for the @valleybrat.la party.’

Earlier in the day, Lala dropped the latest episode of her podcast and shared her thoughts of Bethenny Frankel’s controversial interview with VPR’s Raquel Leviss.

First, she branded Leviss’ decision to quit the show following her affair with Tom Sandoval a ‘travesty’ and accused Frankel of manipulating and ‘exploiting’ the star.

She said: ‘It is a travesty that she didn’t end up coming back. She should have come back. I think she would have been very surprised. And instead she went and did this [podcast with Bethenny] and she was manipulated yet again.

‘There were things that she was then saying that were not perspective. It was a flat out lie and I can’t imagine you believe what you are saying.’

She blasted Leviss’ claim she was called  ‘reality TV ratings gold’ by herself Katie Maloney and Kristina Kelly, saying: ‘That never happened. Raquel that night after she said, “It’s a good thing you don’t have a man,” went to her bedroom.

‘She went to sleep and the next morning when she comes into our room and feels embarrassed is the first time we had seen her. There was no we came into her room and told her she was reality TV ratings gold. This never happened and this isn’t perspective. This is fact. No one every said this to you.

Discussing the controversial podcast, she said: ‘I saw this all the time that there are going to be moments where our voice is all we have. We have all been able to go on a platform — whether it is our own or someone else’s — to share our side of any story.

‘Raquel absolutely has that right and I am happy that she finally got to take advantage of a giant platform to tell her story. I only saw clips and what I gathered from it is Bethenny completely exploited that girl yet again.’

Slamming Leviss for sleeping with Sandoval behind Ariana Madix’s back, she said: ‘I don’t think that reality TV is for everyone. It is a very intense environment. If you are not mentally tough as f**k, it can break you. It definitely can.

‘Now to say that Raquel was a victim of something, I don’t know. What I do know is you made a decision to sleep with your best friend’s partner of 10 years.

‘You didn’t need to do that. No one was forcing you to do it and no one asked you to do that. It felt like Bethenny was really trying to push her in a certain direction.’

A single father from Southern California is feeling like a new person after undergoing a rare and risky triple organ transplant that had him under the knife for 20 hours.

Valance Sams Sr. received a new heart, liver and kidney at Cedars Sinai in Los Angeles during a procedure that only 45 others have had in the last 36 years.

‘I’m feeling good, great, awesome,’ Sams said. ‘It’s night and day.’

The surgery comes 10 years after Sams was first diagnosed with sarcoidosis, an inflammatory disease that caused a buildup of scar tissue on his heart.

Prior to his procedure, the dad was unable to work or walk. Now, he’s back to exercising and walking with his son, who helped nurse him back to health.

‘I’m feeling good, great, awesome,’ Sams (pictured) said. ‘It’s night and day’

The surgery was possible thanks to a team effort that included doctors from numerous departments at the Los Angeles based hospital.

At one time, Sams’ primary physicians were working with up to 15 other doctors.

‘The coordination starts long before we even get to the operating room,’ said Dr. Justin Steggerda, Sams’ kidney surgeon.

The procedure has been a long time coming for Sams who was on a strict medication and treatment plan before his organs began failing earlier this year.

Sams’ sarcoidosis and its effects on the heart led to other health issues that impacted his kidney and liver.

‘If the heart’s not working, it can cause something called congestive hepatopathy in the liver, where the liver just starts not to work very well, and can cause chronic and permanent damage of the liver, and then it can also cause stress on the kidneys as well,’ said Irene Kim, director of the Cedars-Sinai transplant center.

His intense treatment schedule required a full-time caregiver, which became his son Valance ‘Vee’ Sams Jr.

As a teenager, Vee took on the role of nurse, counting out medications and helping his father prepare meals every day.

‘I was basically his personal nurse,’ Vee said.

‘I made sure everything was OK, he wasn’t missing appointments. I made sure his medicines [were] OK, you know, changing his bags for dialysis,’ he said.

While talking with Cedars-Sinai, Sams got emotional talking about his son’s role in helping to keep him healthy and alive over the years.

‘Since the beginning, he’s been like my nurse, my best friend, my brother,’ he said.

Earlier this year, Sams got the call that a heart, kidney and liver were all available for him after spending two months in the hospital for his failing organs.

Doctors quickly got to work procuring the organs and prepping for the rare surgery.

According to the United Network for Organ Sharing, fewer than 50 people have received the same organ transplants since they began tracking in 1987.

‘Since then, the average has been only about 1.5 of these surgeries per year in the U.S., more frequently within the last five years as providers and surgeons get more comfortable with the operations and technology,’ Gunn said.

The order of the transplants is decided by how each organ’s ischemic time – the length of how long the organ can survive outside the body.

The heart has the longest ischemic time, followed by liver, then kidney.

Now, Sams’ doctors say he has a great chance at full recovery if he follows his medications and treatment plan dutifully.

‘The little things are so important,’ Sams said. ‘We take advantage of a lot of little things, but now I know that those little things are where it’s at.’

Not a single airline is fined in 20 years despite numerous cases of ‘unlawful behaviour’ due to a regulatory failure

  • Consumer champion Which? said the CAA ‘should be doing more’

Not a single airline has been fined due to a regulatory failure in the past 20 years – despite numerous cases of ‘unlawful’ behaviour.

The scandal was highlighted by Which? as the lack of action was cited as evidence of a massive failure of the customer protection regime.

The consumer champion said the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) ‘should be doing more’ to pursue court action against law-breaking carriers, although it admitted that the agency ‘urgently needs stronger enforcement powers’.

Bosses at the CAA have had the capacity to apply to courts for enforcement orders against airlines since June 2003, but the only time they have used this power against a major carrier was in 2018.

On that occasion, Ryanair escaped punishment after it agreed to pay passengers compensation for flights cancelled during a strike by pilots.

Earlier this month, British Airways was fined 1.1 million US dollars (£900,000) in the US over delayed refunds for flights cancelled during the coronavirus pandemic. But Which? said the the lack of similar action in the UK – where many more passengers suffered delays to pay-outs from the airline – is ‘an embarrassing indictment of weak passenger protections’.

Airlines operating in the UK are required to issue refunds for cancelled flights within seven days, but many consumers were forced to wait several months at the height of the virus crisis.

Other nations whose regulators have fined airlines in recent years include Italy, Germany and Greece.

The Department for Transport (DfT) announced this week that it plans to give the CAA the power to fine airlines for breaches of consumer laws.

Which? called for the legislation to be included later this year in the King’s Speech, which would demonstrate the Government’s intention to implement the change during the next parliamentary session.

Last night Rocio Concha, Which? director of policy and advocacy, said: ‘The US government fining Britain’s flag carrier when our own authorities are powerless to do the same makes a mockery of aviation regulation in the UK, which has been failing travellers for 20 years.

‘Passengers have repeatedly endured unfair and, in some cases, unlawful treatment by some airlines in recent years and meaningful action is long past due.

‘The Government must act without delay and legislate to grant the CAA the powers it needs to issue hefty fines, and hold airlines to account when they break the law.

‘Until it does so, UK travellers’ rights will be worth no more than the paper they are written on.’

CAA head of consumer Anna Bowles said: ‘We have regularly asked for stronger consumer enforcement powers, including the ability to impose fines on airlines.

‘This would allow us to take faster action when appropriate and bring our powers in line with other sectoral regulators.’

BA said: ‘Where a customer’s flight is cancelled, we always offer options including a full refund, rerouting or rebooking onto another service, including with other airlines. We always meet our legal obligations.’

Ryanair said: ‘Any Ryanair customers who are entitled to compensation due to staff strikes in 2018 – and who applied directly to Ryanair for compensation – have received compensation directly from Ryanair in line with EU261.’

Analysis found more than 24,000 complaints about airlines relating to compensation were made to the CAA and the UK’s two alternative dispute resolution bodies in 2020.
