Ashton Kutcher has stepped down from the anti-child sex abuse organization he co-founded and is apologizing again for the ill-advised letter of support he wrote for his convicted rapist friend Danny Masterson

In a letter to the organization Thorn, Kutcher said the letters that he and wife Mila Kunis wrote were an ‘error in judgement’.

‘Victims of sexual abuse have been historically silenced and the character statement I submitted is yet another painful instance of questioning victims who are brave enough to share their experiences.

‘After my wife and I spent several days of listening, personal reflection, learning, and conversations with survivors and the employees and leadership at Thorn, I have determined the responsible thing for me to do is resign as Chairman of the Board, effectively immediately.

‘I cannot allow my error in judgment to distract from our efforts and the children we serve,’ he wrote.

The stars were hit with a tidal wave of backlash after their letters calling Masterson an ‘honest’ man were made public.

They did nothing to sway the judge. Masterson was jailed for 30 years.

Kutcher was a vocal advocate for the organization, appearing before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to attest to the horrors of child sex trafficking that he had been exposed to through his work with the charity.

In an apology video posted on social media, the pair said they’d reflected on their support of Masterson and now realized it was ill-advised.

Masterson, a Scientologist, long denied his victims’ allegations.

All three of his accusers were former members of the church.

He was found guilty of raping two women.

Throughout the trial, he enjoyed the support of his wife – actress Bijou Phillips.

Friends who spoke with People magazine this week say she has ‘no plans’ to divorce him.

Kutcher’s resignation was welcomed by the board at the charity.

‘For the past decade I have worked with Ashton on child protection issues. He has been a strong champion for children and worked tirelessly to protect them from sexual abuse.

Through the creation of the DNA Foundation that later became Thorn, he helped build the organization into a major global resource for law enforcement, tech companies and others in the fight against child sexual exploitation.

He made a difference,’ Thorn board member Ernie Allen said in an announcement on the organization’s website.

Another said: ‘His unwavering dedication and commitment to Thorn throughout its journey have enabled the organization to become the leader that it is in the child safety ecosystem.

‘It has been my privilege to join him on this mission.’

In letters to the court before his sentencing, Masterson’s victims described how he drugged then attacked them.

‘I still don’t recall what I wore out the door, [defense attorney] Mr Cohen. But I do know one thing you didn’t ask me… I never could find my underwear.

‘I know this because when I got home, I didn’t have any on.

‘And I remember being upset and embarrassed about the idea that my underwear were somewhere at Danny’s house,’ one of the victims wrote.

In his letter to the judge, Kutcher said Masterson had ‘always treated people with decency’.

Kunis wrote: ‘I am writing this character letter on behalf of my dear friend, Danny Masterson, with whom I have had the privilege of sharing a significant part of my life.

‘My name is Mila Kunis, and I am an actress, and I believe it is essential to share the remarkable influence Danny has had on my life and the lives of others.

‘Throughout our time together, Danny has proven to be an amazing friend, confidant, and, above all, an outstanding older brother figure to me. His caring nature and ability to offer guidance have been instrumental in my growth both personally and professionally.

‘In conclusion, I wholeheartedly vouch for Danny Masterson’s exceptional character and the tremendous positive influence he has had on me and the people around him. His dedication to leading a drug-free life and the genuine care he extends to others makes him an outstanding role model and friend.

‘Please feel free to reach out if you require any further information or clarification.’

THE NIRVANA EXPRESS

by Mick Brown (Hurst Publishers £25, 400pp)

It’s all The Beatles‘ fault. Anyone who has endured someone’s hazy account of ‘finding’ themselves in India can blame John, Paul, George and Ringo.

In the summer of 1967, when the band studied meditation under Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in the foothills of the Himalayas, they made spiritual tourism profoundly groovy. But, as Brown explains in The Nirvana Express, the Fab Four were just the latest in a long line of Western figures to fall under the spell of holy men from the East.

Throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, these schools of thought, often loosely connected to Hinduism and Buddhism, enthralled Europeans and Americans seeking a quiet alternative to the more shouty dictates of Christian fundamentalists and the bling of Catholicism. George Harrison was just one of many seduced by the idea that ‘each soul is potentially divine’.

In the summer of 1967, when the band studied meditation under Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in the foothills of the Himalayas, they made spiritual tourism profoundly groovy

In a lively narrative, delivered with wit and warmth, Brown shows how Eastern mysticism went from being suspect to venerable, and back again to a subject of scepticism. Along the way, he delivers an outrageous cast of characters — film stars, novelists, heiresses and heretics — and shows how soothing swamis and dodgy charlatans left their mark on Western ways.

It all began with the Victorian love of learning. In 1879, Sir Edwin Arnold published The Light of Asia, a poetic imagining of the life of the Buddha that sparked curiosity in some colonialists out East and adventurous minds at home.

By the early 20th century, Indian philosophy had become fashionable. Sir Edwin Lutyens, the most celebrated architect of the Edwardian era, was not a fan. His wife, Emily, embraced theosophy — which combined world religions in an Avengers Assemble manner — and became an ardent admirer of Krishna, the sweet-natured 16-year-old son of an Indian clerk who had been randomly chosen as its unlikely Messiah.

While Lady Emily devoted herself to the boy, poor Edwin spent periods working in India, where he saw little beauty beneath the poverty.

Emily wrote to him to say he was no longer welcome in her bedroom and, subsequently, made less than spiritual overtures to Krishna. These in turn were rebuffed.

Others were less easily swayed. The infamous occultist Aleister Crowley — dubbed ‘the wickedest man in the world’ — found Eastern spiritualism far too passive. But gurus continued to attach themselves to celebrities and socialites to gain traction and funds. In the 1930s, Meher Baba, a spiritual master with an eye on Hollywood, sought, but failed, to win the patronage of Greta Garbo.

As Brown notes, Indian spirituality went mainstream in the 1960s when The Beatles became fans. The saga of the most famous band in the world and the Maharishi — known as the ‘giggling guru’ due to his impish humour — is a tale of curiosity and disappointment.

In 1967, the band went to the Hilton Hotel on Park Lane to hear the guru speak (George’s wife, Pattie Boyd, recalled that ‘they seemed to do everything as a group; if one of them did something they would all want to do it’). The following day, the four musicians decamped to a teacher training college in Bangor, North Wales, where the Maharishi was teaching Transcendental Meditation. The retreat was cut short, however, when the band learned of the death of their beloved manager Brian Epstein.

In a lively narrative, delivered with wit and warmth, Brown shows how Eastern mysticism went from being suspect to venerable, and back again to a subject of scepticism

The Beatles later studied under the guru in India, at an ashram overlooking the Ganges. Mia Farrow, raw from her separation with Frank Sinatra, joined them along with her sister Prudence (Lennon wrote ‘Dear Prudence’ in her honour).

A gifted salesman, the Maharishi swiftly labelled himself ‘The Beatles’ spiritual teacher’.

Less famous disciples, writes Brown, were obliged to bring ‘six fresh flowers, two pieces of fruit, a clean white handkerchief and a financial donation.’

It didn’t take long for cracks to appear.

Ringo disliked the food and headed home early. The rest of the band followed suit when rumours circulated that the Maharishi had made passes at Mia Farrow.

‘We thought there was more to him than there was,’ noted Paul McCartney. Lennon was more candid, recalling how stunned The Beatles had been to learn of Epstein’s death and the Maharishi’s response when they told him Epstein had died. ‘And he was sort of saying, ‘Oh forget it, be happy’ — f***in’ idiot.’

There’s a touch of Yes Minister to some gurus

Only George kept the faith, retaining a lifelong interest in Eastern religions. But The Beatles’ Indian sojourn created some incredible music: more than half of the White Album was written at the ashram.

Perhaps the most complex of the Indian godmen was the Bhagwan Rajneesh, suggests Brown. The Gordon Gekko of the swami scene, Rajneesh looked both to the heavens and the bottom line, building an empire in the 1970s and 1980s that included a town in Oregon — which he renamed Rajneeshpuram — and the world’s largest collection of Rolls-Royces. In 1976, the actor Terence Stamp arrived at Rajneesh’s Indian base in Pune and immediately recognised a fellow performer, likening him to Orson Welles.

Stamp became ensconced in the ashram: ‘I had a new name, I was wearing orange, I was studying tantric sex. It wasn’t uninteresting!’

Rajneesh’s American enterprise, which drew thousands of visitors, crumbled in the mid-1980s, following reports of violent therapy sessions, sex scandals and a litany of crimes: followers were convicted of bio-terror attacks, arson and attempted murder. Their leader was arrested, fined and deported back to India.

Brown shows how the gurus’ woolly wisdom was both their strength and weakness (there’s a touch of Yes Minister to some of their opaque declarations). Yet the influence of these mystics endures today. ‘Yoga classes are now held in church halls,’ Brown observes. ‘Meditation has been stripped of its spiritual connotations and rebranded as ‘mindfulness’.’

In his previous book, Tearing Down The Wall Of Sound: The Rise And Fall Of Phil Spector, Brown revealed how a musical icon became a murderer. There are more fallen idols here.

A pattern forms of a pure creed curdled by greed, and the instability of both gurus and believers. Brown illustrates the subjective reality of spiritual highs with an amusing story about the American Beat poet Allen Ginsberg.

In 1948, Ginsberg, whose mystical journey took in Buddhism, mescaline and LSD, claimed to have had a visitation from God while reading a William Blake poem in his New York apartment.

‘Overcome by an urge to share the good news,’ writes Brown, ‘Ginsberg crawled out of the window onto the fire-escape and tapped on the window of the neighbouring apartment, which was occupied by two girls. The window opened: ‘I’ve seen God!’ Ginsberg screamed excitedly.

‘The window slammed shut. ‘Oh,’ Ginsberg later lamented, ‘what tales I could have told them if they’d let me in!’ ‘

  • Do you know the couple? Email tips@dailymail.com

Two easyJet passengers who had sex in a plane toilet on a flight to Ibiza emerged to applause and cheers of ‘top girl’ as they wandered shamelessly back to their seats.

An earlier clip recorded passengers whooping and screaming with delight when a cabin crew member opened the door to expose the duo having sex.

The footage taken on the flight from Luton appears to show the pair were in no mood to stop early, with the man promptly shutting the door again so they could join the so-called ‘Mile High Club’.

A second clip sees the pair waving their arms defiantly with no hint of blushing as they walk down the aisle of the plane to their seats, while thrilled passengers cheered them on.

The plane was met by police when it landed in Ibiza and the duo were led away.

An EasyJet spokesperson told MailOnline the flight was met by police on arrival on the Spanish party island.

Those in the rear seats who watched the situation unfold appeared to find what was happening hilarious and could be seen watching opened mouthed. One woman was heard screaming ‘Oh my f***ing God’, before asking her friend if she had videoed what happened.

But the cabin crew member seemed unsure how to respond and could be seen in the clip holding his head in the hands after catching the couple in the act.

The video has been shared widely on social media, with one user joking: ‘Ryanair would charge extra.’ Another added: ‘Hope that wasn’t the pilot.’

An easyJet spokeswoman told MailOnline: ‘We can confirm that this flight from Luton to Ibiza on September 8 was met by police on arrival due to the behaviour of two passengers onboard.’

The identity of the couple is not known and it has also not been confirmed whether any arrests were made in Ibiza.

Bedfordshire Police, which is responsible for policing at Luton Airport, confirmed to MailOnline that it was not involved in the response.

Section 71 of the Sexual Offences Act 2004 states that it is illegal to have sex in a lavatory to which the public has access.

A willing Californian ‘sex slave’ who confessed to the 2012 murder of a woman kidnapped by her ‘masters’ has withdrawn her confession, arguing she should be freed – but a court ordered Tuesday that she remain locked up.

Jessica Lopez wrote a seven-page confession letter after the body of Brittany Killgore, 22, was found on April 17, 2012, near Lake Skinner in Riverside County, California.

Lopez, then 25 years old, went to a Ramada Inn hotel in San Diego and tried to kill herself, leaving behind the letter.

She was found by medics and resuscitated, and then arrested.

Lopez’s letter let to the arrest of her ‘master’, Marine Staff Sgt. Louis Ray Perez, then 45, and his pregnant girlfriend Dorothy Maraglino, then 40, who Lopez described as her ‘mistress.’ The trio were in a three-way ‘throuple’ relationship that saw Lopez wear a dog collar and eat from a dog bowl.

Killgore’s husband Cory Killgore was a Marine and she was acquainted with Perez and Maraglino through her husband.

She had filed for divorce just days before she disappeared, while Cory was serving in Afghanistan. She was packing up her belongings to move home to Missouri when Perez approached her and offered to help if she would go on a dinner cruise with him.

Perez then abducted Killgore and forced her into a sexual bondage and torture session before she was strangled and dumped in the ditch.

All three – Perez, Maraglino, and Lopez – were convicted in 2015 of Killgore’s murder and given life sentences.

But Lopez wanted to take advantage of a 2018 law change which ruled that accomplices who were not the actual killers or who did not play a significant role in the killing would not be charged with murder.

Lopez last week changed her story, and told a judge she had not participated in the killing, but wrote the confession because she was under orders from her ‘master’ and ‘mistress’.

Sloan Ostbye, Lopez’s attorney, told the court last week that Lopez was a willing ‘slave’, and wrote the confession letter to try and spare her ‘master’ and ‘mistress.’

‘She was manipulated, used and told to take responsibility for the crime,’ Ostbye said, according to the San Diego Union Tribune.

Lopez told the court: ‘Slaves don’t ask questions. I know it sounds crazy, but it’s true.’

Lopez said she and Maraglino were at a grocery store while Perez kidnapped Killgore, but had forgotten her wallet so drove home to get it, and found a ‘distracted’ Perez.

Lopez returned to the store, and Perez texted Maraglino to come home.

The two women returned home, and Maraglino went into the house and told Lopez to wait in the car.

Lopez said she waited in the car, then took the grocery bags and went into the garage, which had been converted to her bedroom.

In the room she saw a woman on her knees, with her head on the floor and her face turned away.

Lopez said the woman had tape wrapped around her head.

Lopez said Perez and Maraglino were also in the room, talking, and ordered Lopez upstairs.

She obeyed and spent the evening alone watching a movie.

The next day, Perez ordered her to help dispose of Killgore’s body.

Ostbye argued Lopez, as a willing sex slave, was brainwashed by Perez and Maraglino.

She ate out of a dog bowl, wore a collar, and participated in their bondage, discipline, dominance and submission sessions.

‘She was willing to be cut, tattooed, eat out of bowls, even willing to kill herself,’ said Ostbye.

‘She was so controlled and brainwashed, she did whatever she was told to do.’

However, on Tuesday, the judge decided Lopez was a major participant in the killing, and so the conviction should stand.

‘He had an understanding of the lifestyle between these participants, the BDSM lifestyle and the violence that was inflicted in the home,’ said Patrick Espinoza, chief deputy district attorney of San Diego, explaining the judge’s decision.

‘And he was able to use that evidence to make a conclusion that she was not only a major participant, but she also had a reckless disregard for human life.’

Maraglino has also petitioned to have her murder conviction vacated under the new law, 10 News reported. A court date for her hearing has not been set.

It’s often seen as a taboo subject, but a new study is finally lifting the lid on Britons’ sex lives.

Researchers from the University of East Anglia surveyed more than 5,000 Brits to decipher what the average men and women’s sex lives looks like.

And there’s good news if you haven’t been getting much action – you’re not alone.

The results reveal that most Britons have either had zero or one sexual partner in the preceding three weeks.

Dr Julii Brainard, who led the study from the University of East Anglia, said: ‘Often people assume everyone else is having lots of sex, but surveys like this show the real story is a lot more complicated.’

Between the sheets: It's often seen as a taboo subject, but a new study is finally lifting the lid on Britons' sex lives. This graph illustrates the percentage of people who have had sex recently

Percentages are how many have had sex in the last three weeks

In the study, the researchers surveyed more than 5,000 people in Britain last year, asking if they had had sex in the previous three weeks.

Just 31 per cent of heterosexual women aged 45 to 49 said they had zero sexual partners in the past three weeks.

But that jumped to 47 per cent of women aged 50 to 54.

Among women in their early sixties, two-thirds had gone without sex for at least three weeks.

The figures will include women not having regular sex with their husband or partner, and those who are single – perhaps following a midlife divorce.

In contrast, among heterosexual men, the number reporting no sex in the previous three weeks did not rise dramatically with age.

Dr Brainard said: ‘These results could be viewed as good news for older women who are having less sex than when they were younger, as they can know they are normal.’

Just 31 per cent of heterosexual women aged 45 to 49 said they had zero sexual partners in the past three weeks. But that jumped to 47 per cent of women aged 50 to 54 (stock image)

The findings come from a snapshot study seeking to understand the risk of infection from mpox, previously known as monkeypox, and looking at gay and bisexual men, heterosexual men and heterosexual women.

The authors conclude that everyone is less likely to have regular sex as they get older – but this shift happens at a younger age, and more dramatically, in heterosexual women.

Only about a quarter of women surveyed who were in their late twenties and early thirties had not had sex with any partner in the last three weeks.

This rose to about 37 per cent for those in their late thirties and early forties, and then stood at 31 per cent for those in their late forties.

But then came the jump to 47 per cent of women in their early fifties not having had recent sex, and 52 per cent of those in their late fifties.

By the time women hit their sixties, around two-thirds had not had sex in the previous three weeks, and in their seventies, more than three-quarters said they had not.

For heterosexual men, only about half said they had not had recent sex, with this percentage staying about the same for every age group from late forties to 75-plus.

Men may avoid a middle-aged sex slump by having partners younger than them, who are still more interested in sex.

But it may also be the case that male pride means men are less likely to admit or remember not having had sex in the past three weeks, while women are more likely to under-report the sex they are having.

The study, published in the journal PLOS One, interestingly found very few British heterosexual people have had two or more different partners in the past three weeks.

Having multiple recent sexual partners was most common in 18 to 24-year-olds, and reported by about 14 per cent of this age group.

So-called ‘thirst traps‘ posted by attention-hungry real people on social media have experienced an influx of digital competition lately – artificial intelligence.

Start-ups that market sexually available virtual companions to lonely men have started to spring up on social media.

The ads promise ‘AI girlfriends’ whose underlying ‘machine learning’ architecture learns the user’s preferences.

Sites like Facebook, Instagram and TikTok are worried, given that these new ads have shown an uncanny ability to beat content moderation roadblocks in place to block such overtly sexual content.

Worse, in certain ads, memes incorporating well-known children’s TV characters from Cookie Monster to SpongeBob SquarePants are redeployed in a questionable ‘fair use’ cases to promote the AI sex apps and their ability to generate ‘NSFW pics.’

Other ads feature digitally or potentially AI-generated girls whose indeterminate age could be read as teenage or younger.

For it’s part, Meta has claimed that it has got a handle on the ads, which appear to violate their policies.

As the company said in a statement to NBC News, it is Meta’s stance that its ban on adult content does not exempt AI-generated content.

‘Our policies prohibit ads containing adult content that is overly suggestive or sexually provocative — whether it’s AI-generated or not,’ according to a human spokesperson Meta.

‘Our policies and enforcement are designed to adapt in this highly adversarial space, and we are actively monitoring any new trends in AI-generated content.’

Meta also told the news broadcaster that it is reviewing the version of its policies that are accessible to the public and to advertisers, to make sure that their language is sufficiently clear.

For years and in some cases over a decade, social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram and TikTok have been in a standoff with sex workers, sex education advocates and artists who all have complained of draconian and prudish moderation policies.

Many of these advocates are alarmed by these platform’s tacit consent or lenient treatment of these app developers’ paying ads.

‘Sex workers are not allowed to make money off their image,’ said Carolina Are, a research fellow at Northumbria University’s Centre for Digital Citizens, ‘but some tech bro who is creating a similar AI image is.’

One adult toy maker, Unbound CEO Polly Rodriguez told NBC News that her company has frequently faced daunting obstacles advertising with Meta.

She expressed confusion and annoyance over the ability of these AI chatbot ads to somehow evade content moderation, intimating that the issues suggests evidence of inconsistent enforcement and bias.

‘They’re not addressing the root issue of: Why are these ads sailing through to begin with?’ Rodriguez said.

Sex And The City without Samantha Jones has been like toast without butter. Little wonder then, that her hotly anticipated cameo in last night’s finale of And Just Like That — the sequel to SATC — has caused such a stir.

Following a bitter six-year feud with Sarah Jessica Parker (SJP), who plays Carrie Bradshaw, Kim Cattrall had sworn never to play man-eating PR executive Samantha again. But earlier this year she was persuaded to reconsider after fans said the story of life and love in Manhattan just wasn’t the same without her.

Here, original SATC super fan CLAUDIA CONNELL gives her riotous take on Kim’s big comeback as the second series concluded and the other surprising twists in the final episode (spoiler alert!)

A VERY COSTLY CAMEO

Kim Cattrall was on screen for all of 60 seconds last night. It’s rumoured that the actress was paid $1 million (£790,000) to film the scene — and she speaks just 20 lines, working out at an impressive £13,166 per second of airtime.

According to Cattrall, the chief executive of TV network HBO called her and asked what it would take for her to return. Being styled by Patricia Field, the celebrated costume designer who worked on the original series, but not the reboot, was one of her asks.

Sex and the City reboot And Just Like That concluded its second series this week. It has been renewed for a third series by HBO

Officially, Field was unavailable for the reboot due to working on Emily In Paris, but some suggested Field was not actually asked to do And Just Like That because SJP resented her close friendship with Cattrall and was punishing her.

Insisting on Field, who dressed Cattrall in a red dress, a gold coat and had her clutching a giant, oversized green bag, is perhaps Cattrall’s swipe back.

Cattrall also insisted on her make-up being done by celebrity cosmetic artist Kyra Panchenko and her hair by Ryan Trygstad — who gave her a new wispy fringe.

The scene was filmed in March in New York, taking four hours, after which Kim says she ‘went home and had a large Martini’, having not encountered a single one of her three former co-stars.

THE LAST SUPPER

Carrie Bradshaw may be SATC’s main character, but it’s Samantha Jones who became the fan’s firm favourite.

Over the course of six seasons of SATC, Carrie went from being a gutsy, independent sex columnist to a whinger with a shoe fetish who couldn’t seem to function without a man.

But bed-hopping, toy boy loving, child-free by choice Samantha always stayed true to herself.

And 60 seconds was all it took for Kim Cattrall to bring the sparkle, warmth and a star quality to And Just Like That it has lacked for nearly two years.

Smiling as she sees Samantha’s name flash on her phone screen, ‘Hello London, what’s shakin’ lady?’ asks Carrie as she takes the call.

Having intended to be a surprise guest at the ‘last supper’ party Carrie is hosting to say goodbye to her bachelorette flat, Samantha — calling from her car — tells her friend that she won’t be able to make it after all, due to flight delays. Asking to go on loud speaker so she can say her own goodbye to Carrie’s famous home, she puts on a fake English accent and trills, ‘thanks for everything you f*****g fabulous, fabulous flat’.

And just like that she was off, leaving us to assume she probably slept with the chauffeur before heading out to dinner with her new British girlfriends.

THE NEW MR RIGHT?

In series two of And Just Like That, Carrie reignites her romance with Aidan Shaw, the furniture maker she first dated in SATC’s series three.

She broke his heart by cheating on him with Big and, later, breaking off their engagement. Carrie tells Miranda that this time around sex with divorced father-of-three Aidan is the best she’s ever had and she’s started to think that ‘Big was a big mistake’.

But just as she’s about to move into the new, four-bedroom duplex she plans to share with Aidan, he arrives in New York to tell her they have to put their relationship on hold for five years. His troubled youngest son needs him.

He returns to Norfolk, Virginia, breaking Carrie’s heart just as she did to him two decades earlier.

CRAZY CAT LADY

Carrie becomes a doting ‘mum’ to a tabby kitten that she names Shoe. Yes, really!

Shoe sleeps in a Manolo Blahnik shoe box. The kitten was part of a litter that had been abandoned and taken to the veterinary practice where Che, Miranda’s (non-binary) ex, works. Is she set to become a crazy cat lady?

SPANX SILLINESS

Earlier in the series, annoyingly ditsy Charlotte York (Kristin Davis) makes the decision to return to work full-time. Charlotte purchases a chic, black lace Prada dress to wear to her first day in her new job at an art gallery, but it’s tight on her stomach.

She tries a bone broth crash diet, but can’t shift the pounds. Instead, 22 years after Bridget Jones made big knickers famous, she squeezes herself into body-control underwear that’s so restricting she can barely walk.

Arriving at the gallery, she’s greeted by a 20-something, plus-size assistant, wearing a crop top.

In a highly contrived scene, a liberated Charlotte runs to the bathroom to rip off her Spanx to let her tiny tummy take centre stage.

WORST PARTY EVER

As good luck would have it, Carrie wins a raffle prize for a chef to cook dinner for her and her pals. She decides to hold a ‘last supper’ at her flat before she moves.

The table is decorated with roses and linen napkins bearing Carrie’s initials. As she uses her kitchen for extra clothes storage, the chef cooks at a neighbour’s place.

Seated around the table, she asks her guests say one word that represents something they want to let go of.

‘Guilt’ says Miranda. ‘Limits’ says Charlotte. ‘Shoes’ says Carrie. Not really, especially given her new pet’s name. She goes for ‘expectations’.

MESSED-UP MIRANDA

Miranda’s estranged husband Steve spoke for us all in the final episode when he says ‘you’re not going to flip and be straight again are you?’ after meeting up with his ex, who ditched him for Che in the first series of And Just Like That.

Once the fiercest, most successful of the characters, Miranda’s turned into an insecure, bumbling midlife Mr Bean.

Describing herself as a ‘sexually confused alcoholic,’ she’s single for the second half of this series after splitting with Che.

Working as an intern at a human rights charity, the former hotshot lawyer seems lost … until she meets plummy BBC producer Joy (Dolly Wells) who looks set to be her love interest in the next series.

SEEMA: THE NEW SAM?

Outspoken, successful and with an insatiable sex drive, real estate broker Seema Patel (Sarita Choudhury) has helped fill the void that Samantha left behind.

She became besties with Carrie after selling the apartment she shared with Big. In this series, she becomes involved with film director Ravi and — in true Samantha style — has sex with him in the master bedroom of the multi-million-dollar flat she’s showing him.

She even gets the honour of sharing the finale’s last scene with Carrie. Relaxing on sun loungers on a Greek island, the two women are seen sipping Cosmopolitans — the cocktail SATC made famous.

Three men accused of plying a British teenager with alcohol before gang-raping her in a Magaluf hotel are alleged to have called strangers into their room to enjoy ‘free sex’, it has been claimed.

A total of eight men are accused of raping the 18-year-old woman, according to Spanish police, who said the suspects did not know each other prior to the attack on August 14.

Civil Guard investigators discovered one of the men involved in the alleged rape knew the victim by sight and was staying in the same hotel.

He is said to have partnered with two of the other suspects, who saw the woman drunk in a bar in the early hours and decided to buy her even more drinks with the intention of incapacitating her, investigators believe.

Those three are said to have begun the abuse, before inviting strangers in the corridor to follow them into their hotel room for ‘free sex’, according to local media.

The girl fled a hotel room at around 5am, telling police she had woken up surrounded by young people holding mobile phones.

Six suspects – five French and one Swiss – are in jail in Palma, while two more suspects were arrested in France on Sunday and are awaiting extradition.

The spokesman said: ‘The Civil Guard has closed the investigation sparked by the alleged gang rape that took place in a hotel in Magaluf in the early hours of August 14.

‘Officers saw early on the complexity of the investigation, as the alleged aggressors didn’t form part of the same group of friends but, encouraged by other participants, had allegedly joined the group action in sporadic acts, meaning no type of relationship existed between them,’ he said.

A number of men have since been taken into custody by police, with police in France making the latest arrests after Spanish cops discovered the men had flown to Germany before crossing the border en route to the French city of Strasbourg.

The pair arrested on Sunday face extradition to Majorca, while Civil Guard officers announced yesterday their probe to identify the men involved had now concluded.

Confirming the first six suspects had been held the day of the alleged sex attack and remanded in prison, the force said in a statement: ‘The probe continued to identify the two young men whose arrests were pending.

‘Once they had been identified, officers discovered they had taken a flight to Baden-Baden in Germany so they could head to their homes in the Strasbourg area.

‘The Civil Guard sought the assistance of the French authorities through the normal channels and issued European Arrest Warrants to avoid them evading justice.

‘On Sunday, the French police confirmed they arrested one of them in the French locality of Scherwiller before subsequently confirming a second arrest at Basilea Mulhouse Freiburg Airport in France, when that suspect was trying to take a flight to Turkey to avoid detention.’

Officers initially identified three suspects by ringing the girl’s phone, which it was claimed had been stolen during the ordeal.

The man who answered and two of his friends were then duped into heading to the hotel’s reception without realising that they were going to meet police and the girl.

The alleged victim pointed at the men – named as Anthony G, 20, Anthony A, 20, and Khalil A, 18 – and they were quickly arrested.

Two other French men, Thomas E, 23, and Romain C, 26, were reportedly arrested later at the hotel along with the Swiss man Lucas H who is aged 20.

The arrests were made after the victim described the men to police and ‘various surveillance devices’ were placed on the hotel entrances.

All six men were held on suspicion of rape and remanded in custody on Tuesday at a court hearing on the island capital Palma.

Over the weekend, it emerged the judge who refused the six suspects bail and remanded them in prison pending an ongoing criminal probe had concluded the British teenager had suffered ‘really humiliating and degrading treatment’ and described the men’s claims sex was consensual as ‘completely preposterous’.

Mobile phone footage of the alleged sex attack, seized by police on the suspects’ phones and handed over to the investigating judge, is said to have shown the men had been ‘enjoying themselves and laughing.’

On Sunday, Spanish newspaper Ultima Hora published more details of the judge’s remand ruling that it appeared to have been given full or partial access to.

It said the suspects had allegedly ‘deliberately taken advantage’ of their alleged victim’s drunkenness to persuade her to accompany them to a hotel room before ‘surrounding her’ and ‘carrying out numerous sexual practices’ with her despite her ‘obvious lack of awareness and willing to carry out those practices.’

The criminal investigation has now been passed on to Palma’s Court of Instruction Number Two, having been dealt with by a duty court in its initial stages.

The British teenager, who gave a statement to police as well as the investigating judge in court, is said to have flown back to the UK with a female friend who was on holiday with her.

Medical reports revealed that the girl had several bruises or grip marks on her right arm, suggesting she had been held down, and a small cut on her upper chest.

Police have already confirmed they found footage on the suspects’ mobile phones showing the alleged multiple rape that is now in the hands of the investigating judge and could form a ‘key part’ of the case.

The alleged gang rape is believed to have taken place at the BH Hotel in Magaluf on Monday, August 14

BH Mallorca Resort, the hotel where the alleged sex attack took place, has said it is cooperating fully with police and offered its support to the unnamed holidaymaker.

A spokesman said in a statement released last Thursday: ‘The BH Mallorca Resort deeply regrets what has happened and would like to manifest its firm and forceful repudiation of the alleged sexual attack that occurred in the early hours of Monday August 14 at the hotel.

‘The hotel also wants to demonstrate its solidarity with the alleged victim of this aggression.

‘We are co-operating fully with the Civil Guard and its investigators in everything they consider to be necessary.

‘This hotel ratifies through this statement its commitment to the condemnation of all types of sexual attacks that affect peoples’ dignity and physical integrity.

‘Behaviour that undermines those rights has no place in this establishment.’

The hotel said it would be making no further comment for the time being.

A security guard at the hotel reportedly came to the rescue of the 18-year-old Brit after finding her sobbing on the floor in the lobby.

He called police after finding her around 5am on Monday, recalling how he had just come in for his morning shift and describing the police response as very quick and efficient.

Investigators have already looked at CCTV images the hotel has provided and carried out an inspection of the room where the alleged gang rape took place.

The men held and remanded in prison have not yet been charged with any crime as is normal in Spain, where formal charges are only laid shortly before trial.

At this stage they are ‘investigados’ in an ongoing criminal probe, which means they are under formal investigation.

It is not known if the British teenager has hired her own lawyer.

The four-star adults-only BH Mallorca Resort describes itself as the ‘best accommodation option in Magaluf’ on its website.

It has its own beach club with over 100 VIP beds, a DJ booth and dance floor.

  •  For those aged 75-90 sex didn’t have to be all that good – just frequent

Having good sex in later life may help keep the brain healthy, a study suggests.

Researchers found that men and women aged between 62 and 74 who described their sex life as ‘very pleasurable and satisfying’ had better cognitive health scores five years later than those who had rated their bedroom behaviour less enthusiastically.

The results could be due to the stress-relieving benefits of good sex, the researchers said, as well as the release of the pleasure hormone, dopamine.

‘Stress prevents the new formation of neurons [neurogenesis] in the hippocampus, an area of the brain associated with memory,’ they wrote in their research paper.

‘Older adults who enjoy satisfying sexual activities may experience decreased stress that may in turn protect neurogenesis.’

Researchers found that men and women aged between 62 and 74 who described their sex life as ‘very pleasurable and satisfying’ had better cognitive health

The researchers, from Hope College, Michigan, U.S. added: ‘Sexual satisfaction is associated with orgasm, and an orgasm releases a rush of dopamine.

‘Thus, people with more sexually satisfying relationships may experience higher levels of dopamine, which has been linked to improved memory in older adults.’

The study involved 1,683 people aged 62 and older, and cognitive scores were a combined assessment of six key areas, including working memory, attention, and visuospatial skills.

And there was even better news for those aged 75-90, the study found. Their sex didn’t even have to be all that good – it just had to be frequent.

The team found that those in this age group who had any sexual activity – not necessarily intercourse, or with orgasm – once a week scored higher on the cognitive tests compared to those who had not had sex in the past year.

The size of the effect was comparable to the advantage conveyed by a longer education – i.e. having been to university compared to not finishing high school – ‘another factor known to positively impact cognitive function in this age group’, they said.

‘That sexual frequency matters in older-old ages may be because having any sex in these later years, regardless of sexual quality, is beneficial for health outcomes,’ they wrote in their paper, published in the Journal of Sex Research.

The size of the effect of good sex later in life was comparable to the advantage conveyed by a longer education - i.e. having been to university compared to not finishing high schoo

‘Sexual activity can foster cognitive health because it is a form of physical activity.

‘This may be especially true at older-old ages as physical inactivity increases with age and older-old adults have high rates of sedentary behaviour.

‘Thus, any circulatory benefits from having sex may be important at very old age.’

The researchers used data taken from a long-term population study in the US called the National Social Life, Health, and Aging Project and the results were analysed in a way that showed it was not simply that people with better cognitive health had more/better sex in the first place.

A group of five French tourists and one Swiss tourist have been arrested after a British teenager was allegedly gang-raped in the holiday resort of Magaluf.

A judge in capital Palma found there were video clips of the alleged rape on at least one of the suspects’ phones, police said.

She met the suspected rapists on Monday night and later went to the hotel room of one of the suspects, where she was allegedly sexually assaulted by the six, the police press office in Mallorca cited the alleged victim’s statement as saying.

The Civil Guard showed up at the hotel after receiving a phone call from the hotel’s security staff who found the young woman crying in desperation.

Police detained the suspects, all of whom are over 20, shortly after.

All the suspects were escorted into the court building in Palma in handcuffs.

Although the suspects are being held in jail, none of them has been formally charged as yet, as the investigation is ongoing. There were no details released on their identities nor that of the alleged victim.

Detectives inspected the room where the alleged assault occurred and reviewed CCTV footage of the hotel entrance as part of the ongoing investigation.

A medic checked the woman over and is said to have found grip marks on her arms.

Earlier this month, a 21-year-old British woman told Greek police that she was raped by an Israeli man after meeting him in a nightclub in Athens.

The young tourist was allegedly attacked at the man’s home in the early hours the previous week after a night out in the Keramikos area.

She told police that during the sexual assault, the man’s three friends appeared out of nowhere and filmed her with their mobile phones.

The woman, who had been partying with her friend from Portugal beforehand, told the group she was leaving but the man refused to stop the act, according to local media

After a struggle the woman managed to escape the property and told police of the incident.

A case has been filed against the Israeli man for rape.

Just last month another British tourist accused a 47-year-old Greek man of raping her in a hotel while on holiday on the island of Rhodes, according to local media.

The 21-year-old said she was attacked at around 2am on July 3 in Pefkos and made a complaint to the local police hours later, prompting a case to be opened.

According to Greece‘s ANT1News, the young woman’s lawsuit claims the older man took her from a ‘health care store’ in Lindos, found on the south of the island, to a hotel in Pefkos – the main city on the island that sits around 15 miles from Turkey.

There, the outlet reports, the woman claims the man forced her to have sex with him through threats of physical violence.

Upon making her complaint, the police asked a medical examiner to carry out an assessment, ANT1News said.

She handed over the clothes she was wearing on the night which were reportedly sent to Greece’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations for DNA testing.

According to the same publication, a second British woman made a complaint over an incident in Faliraki – seven miles south of Pefkos – 24 hours earlier.

It reports that the 18-year-old British tourist was attacked in the early hours on Sunday, July 2, at a nightclub in the popular destination.

She has told police she was at the club with two of her friends, when she suspects an unknown person injected her with a narcotic substance in her hand – without her realising that it had happened at the time.

From that moment, she says she suffered from complete memory loss, leading her to suspect that she was secretly injected with some form of drug.

As with the first case, a coroner’s examination has been ordered and police have launched an investigation into the alleged attack.

In yet another grim case, a 21-year-old British tourist was allegedly raped after she was dragged into bushes on a popular Algarve holiday beach last month.

The woman told police the sex attack took place on the sand by a walkway at Praia da Rocha beach in the municipality of Portimao.

And last month, two Irishmen were arrested on suspicion of raping a British tourist in a hotel in Magaluf.

The Irishmen had reportedly fled the hotel before they were arrested by police officers at the airport as they tried to return to Dublin.

Police had arrived at the hotel on July 19 where the woman claimed she had been raped by the two tourists.

The alleged victim was taken by officers to Son Espases Hospital by the policeman where she underwent an examination of her injuries. The Guardia Civil confirmed that the woman had been raped.

It came days after a British tourist was arrested at the Palma Mallorca airport after allegedly raping his girlfriend at their hotel on the Spanish island.

The 38-year-old was held as he tried to fly home after his 24-year-old partner went to police to say he had forced himself on her in the bathroom of their hotel room.

The couple are said to have been staying at a three-star hotel near the resort of Magaluf when the incident allegedly occurred.

Meanwhile in May, a British tourist was arrested on suspicion of raping a female friend of his son’s at a hotel in Magaluf.

The holidaymaker was also held at Palma Airport after allegedly packing his bags and trying to leave the island in a hurry hours later.

The woman, also believed to be British, told detectives she was raped after falling asleep in her friend’s room, which had an internal door leading into his dad’s room.

The older man is said to have surprised her in the middle of the night after entering the room while his son was out partying.

The alleged rape victim, who is understood to be aged around 20, fled the unnamed hotel and raised the alarm at a Civil Guard office near to the Punta Ballena party strip in Magaluf according to local reports.
