Apple has sprinkled features into its iPhone to help anyone capture great photos.

But a little-known setting could be why your snaps are not living up to the hype.

Tucked away in the Camera app is a setting called Prioritize Faster Shooting, which is great for bursts of photos but diminishes the quality of other images.

The feature is activated by default but can be turned off by going to Settings, Camera and then scrolling down the list of options.

On iPhone X, iPhone XR and later, the Prioritize Faster Shooting setting modifies how images are processed—allowing you to capture more photos when you rapidly tap the Shutter button.

The option is also only available on devices with iOS 13.

Prioritize Faster Shooting will sacrifice the quality of photos for speed – and usually end up with more blurry images.

Apple is just weeks away from launching its new iPhone 15, which is rumored to have better camera tech.

A 2022 report revealed that 90 percent of people who have taken photos have only done so with a smartphone.

This means camera quality is at the top of the list, and Apple is well aware.

DailyMail.com spoke with industry expert Dan Ives with Wedbush Securities about the upcoming smartphone.

‘We’ve heard there is a 20 to 30 percent improvement than the iPhone 14,’ Ives said.

‘This will likely include megapixels and other capabilities around photos that are not even imaginable with the iPhone 14.’

The iPhone 15 is expected to feature the same dual-sensor camera setup but could also feature the 48MP main sensor included in the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone Pro Max.

These predictions were made by analyst Jeff Pu, who is also a leading Apple expert and viewed by MacRumors in a research note.

And the iPhone 15 Pro could have the long-rumored periscope instead.

This periscope camera made headway in 2020 after MacRumors saw another research note from renowned Apple product predictor and analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Periscope lenses use mirrors to provide a much greater optical zoom.

  • Apple’s ‘Wi-Fi Assist’ can dramatically drain battery life and eat up your data
  • The tool allows users to hop on to mobile data when networks lag behind

There’s nothing more frustrating than heading out with a fully charged phone to find it completely dead just a few hours later.

But you may be surprised to know that battery drain is often worsened by the so-called ‘vampire setting’ hidden deep within an iPhone.

Despite its terrifying nickname, the life-sucking feature is more blandly known as ‘Wi-Fi Assist’ and allows Apple users to hop on to mobile data when networks lag behind.

Whether you’re streaming Netflix on the bus or downloading a file in the mountains, this can be an incredibly handy tool on the go.

However, users should be aware that it can also rapidly kill battery life, with the tool automatically enabled on all iPhones.

HOW TO SWITCH OFF THE ‘VAMPIRE SETTING’/ WI-FI ASSIST

  1. Head to ‘Settings’
  2. Tap the ‘Mobile Data’ tab
  3. Scroll all the way to the bottom
  4. Tap the ‘Wi-Fi Assist’ toggle, turning it from green to grey

To see it for yourself, head to the ‘Settings’ menu before tapping on the ‘Mobile Data’ tab.

Here, you’ll see personal hotspot information as well as insights on how  data is used for different apps on the device.

The ‘Wi-Fi Assist’ toggle is located far below this, so you’ll need to scroll right to the bottom where you’ll find it located just above ‘iCloud Drive’.

If you’d like to turn this off, tap the toggle just once to turn it from green to grey – this change will save automatically.

Wi-Fi Assist can be used for numerous apps including but not limited to Safari, Apple Music, Mail and Maps.

While the setting can impact battery life, it’s important to note that it won’t automatically switch to ‘cellular’ if you have data roaming switched on.

Data roaming generally occurs when using a mobile phone on holiday, with the internet switching to an internet network located in whatever country you’re in.

Wi-Fi Assist solely focuses on apps running in the foreground too and doesn’t activate programs in the background or third-party apps.

The latter can eat up large volumes of data – not only costing you precious battery life but money as well.

‘There are two simple ways you can preserve battery life — no matter how you use your device: adjust your screen brightness and use Wi‑Fi,’ the tech giant says.

‘When you use your device to access data, a Wi‑Fi connection uses less power than a mobile network — so keep Wi‑Fi on at all times. To turn on Wi‑Fi, go to Settings > Wi‑Fi to access a Wi‑Fi network.’

iPhone owners can dim their screen brightness by accessing the ‘Control Centre’ accessed by swiping down from the top right-hand corner of a screen on newer models.

Switching on ‘Auto-Brightness’ can help too – found in the ‘Accessibility’ tab of ‘General’ in ‘Settings’.

HOW TO MAXIMISE iPHONE BATTERY HEALTH

  1.  Avoid extreme temperatures: Your device is designed to perform well in temperatures between 16°C and 22°C. Anything above 35°C can permanently damage battery life.
  2. Remove certain cases when charging: Phone cases that generate excess heat should be removed while charging. Overheating can also cause the device to unexpectedly shut down.
  3. Update to the latest software: Apple updates often include energy-saving technologies.
  4. Do not fully charge or fully discharge the device : Charging to around 50 per cent will help sustain its ability to hold battery life.

iPhone users issued warning to change buried setting which would prevent mobile fraud

iPhone users have discovered a buried setting that can help combat mobile fraud.

It takes just two minutes to enable it and it could stop fraudsters from receiving any one-time passcodes sent by your bank to confirm your identity.

It will also stop them from using any mobile data or making phone calls.

The simple trick is to make sure your SIM card PIN is enabled in your settings – most people don’t know this as the option is buried deep within your phone.

It takes just two minutes to enable it and it could stop fraudsters from receiving any one-time passcodes sent by your bank to confirm your identity

How to enable a PIN for your SIM card

1. To enable a PIN for your SIM card, go to the settings app on your iPhone.

2. Next, select ‘Mobile Data’.

3. Now, scroll down and click the buried option of ‘SIM PIN’.

4. Enable SIM PIN by clicking the button to turn it green.

5. Finally, enter your SIM PIN to lock it – once it’s locked, it will prompt you to enter it before using your SIM card, meaning fraudsters will hit a wall.

If you don’t know your SIM PIN

If you don’t know your SIM PIN or you’ve never used one, enter the default SIM PIN from your network provider.

However, if you don’t know what the default SIM PIN is, don’t try to guess as you may get locked out permanently and end up needing to get a new SIM card.

Instead, check your network provider’s customer service page or the documents that came with your wireless plan.

If you still can’t find it, you can contact your network provider directly.

If you aren’t sure what your network provider is, remove your SIM card and check for the network provider’s name or logo.

To enable a PIN for your SIM card, go to the settings app on your iPhone

Why should you do it?

Once you’ve done this, when fraudsters attempt to transfer the sim to another phone, they will hit a wall.

It protects your identity –  no one can access it without knowing the various codes or having the exact pattern of your fingerprint.

It’s a good way of securing your identity, especially from fraudsters who are attempting identity theft.

It stops one time passwords from being sent and stops criminals from using any mobile data or making phone calls.

What else can you do to prevent mobile fraud?

Another option is to switch to an eSIM instead of a physical SIM, so thieves can’t just pop your SIM into their phone.

Additionally, you should turn off notifications that show part of a message, which means one time passwords won’t be visible on a locked phone.

Simply go to iPhone Settings – Notifications – Show Previews (set to ‘Never’).

An ex-convict fighter in Putin‘s war went on the rampage with an accomplice killing six after being freed from jail, say law enforcement in Russia.

The bodies of five men and one woman with stab and serious burn wounds were found in two separate houses blitzed by fire in a village in northern Russian region, Karelia.

Igor Sofonov, 38, a hardened criminal, had been recruited to serve in Vladimir Putin’s war in Ukraine.

His alleged accomplice – who had also served jail time for serious crimes – was named as Maxim Bochkarev, 37.

Both men have been detained initially for two months on suspicion of murder, the Russian Investigative Committee said. A video shows them being taken by armed police into court where they were remanded in custody.

Bochkarev and Sofonov are reported to have previous convictions for murder, rape, robbery, and drugs.

Russians have expressed deep alarm about former convict fighters in the war being pardoned by Putin as a reward for fighting then allowed home after serving at the frontline.

Investigators suspect the two houses were set on fire in a bid to hide the massacre, with footage showing the gutted homes following the blaze.

The dead in one house in the village of Derevyannoye included Konstantin Lonin, 42, his brother Dmitry, 47, and Vladimir Sergeenko, 76.

In the same house was a woman named only as Svetlana, 38.

In the other house, on Friendship Lane, the bodies of Vladimir Tereshchenko, 70, and his son Artyom, 39, were found.

Artyom’s children had jumped from windows when the intruders broke in, and went to raise the alarm with their grandfather in a neighbouring house.

The children are now safe but their grandfather was killed along with his son when he later came to the scene.

‘According to the preliminary version, the cause of the incident was a long-standing conflict on domestic grounds,’ reported Karelia News.

It is unclear if Sofonov was serving for the mercenary army Wagner Group – as some reports suggest – or Putin’s regular army.

He was freed from the war and allowed home in spring, said reports.

Both suspects were in a state of ‘extreme intoxication’ when they were detained, according to reports, and the accomplice was described as a ‘strong, tall, wiry man’.

How to save a fortune on your iPhone -by checking one simple setting

  • Some popular apps are free to download but upgrades can cost £200 a year
  • Unless you’re super organised you may be paying for services you no longer use
  • Luckily, Apple make it easy to check your subscriptions – here’s how to do it…

Have you ever used your iPhone to make in-app purchases or signed up for premium platforms? Were you one of the many Apple users who downloaded the free Magic Tiles 3: Piano Game app to your phone?

It’s easy to sign up for these services – and they’re great if you end up using them on a regular basis – but unless you’re super organised you could be paying hundreds of pounds a year for services you may no longer use.

For example, while the Magic Tiles app is free to download, upgrading to the VIP version costs £3.99 per week, or £207 per year.

Upgrades to the VIP version of the Magic Tiles app can cost more than £200 a year

Upgrades to the VIP version of the Magic Tiles app can cost more than £200 a year

Luckily, Apple makes it really easy to check what subscriptions you have and cancel anything you no longer want.

Here’s how to check your subscriptions and how much you are paying each month.

• Unlock your iPhone and tap Settings

• Select your profile (you’ll find it right at the very top of the Settings list)

• From here you’ll see another menu list including the Subscriptions option.

• Once loaded you’ll now be presented with a full list of services and in-app purchases you subscribe to.

• If you spot one you don’t use anymore, simply tap it and hit the cancel option.

It’s worth noting that you’ll continue to get access until the new billing date but once cancelled it should save you money off the following month’s bill.

Along with cancelling some subscriptions, there is another way to save some cash.

If you use lots of different Apple services such as Apple Music, Fitness+ and Apple TV+ it’s worth considering switching to an Apple One account. These plans bundle in a number of platforms for a cheaper price.

It's worth checking your iPhone subscriptions as it could save you hundreds of pounds a year

It’s worth checking your iPhone subscriptions as it could save you hundreds of pounds a year

For example, signing up for the Apple One Individual plan costs £16.95 and saves £7 off the usual price.

This plan includes iCloud storage, Apple TV+, Apple Music and Apple Arcade access. There’s also this same plan available with family member access for £22.95 – saving £9 per month.

Finally, those wanting the best of everything can sign up for Apple’s Premier plan which adds Apple Fitness+ and Apple News+.

This costs £32.95 – that’s a saving of £23 when compared to signing up for each service individually.

If you’ve not checked your subscriptions for a while it’s worth taking a look. The whole process can be performed in a matter of minutes and it’s surprising what you may have signed up for.
