Morrisons is pushing on with plans to sell its fuel forecourts despite the Government’s shock move to delay a ban on new petrol and diesel car sales by five years.

The supermarket chain is understood to be sticking with its decision to quit fuel retailing – which had been a key driver in attracting shoppers to its stores – to focus on its core food retailing and manufacturing business instead.

Talks to offload 340 of the petrol stations to Motor Fuel Group (MFG) are continuing. Both firms are controlled by US buyout group Clayton, Dubilier & Rice.

The news comes as Morrisons prepares to unveil a third successive quarter of underlying sales growth later this week.

MFG is the largest independent forecourt operator in the UK and has been investing heavily in an ultra-fast electric vehicle charging network next to its 900 convenience retail outlets.

But its EV rollout plans were dealt a blow last week when Prime Minister Rishi Sunak scrapped the 2030 ban on petrol and diesel car sales.

The move means the uptake of electric vehicles is likely to be slower than forecast as drivers hang on to their petrol and diesel cars for longer, though mandatory EV sales targets remain in place.

MFG confirmed its interest in Morrisons’ stations and 500 plots of land where EV hubs could be set up days before Sunak’s bombshell.

Analysts say MFG may now try to cut the reported £2billion price tag. Morrisons needs to raise cash to pay down huge debts, they add.

Morrisons and MFG declined to comment.

A sleepy Joe Biden saw his rambling Vietnam press conference brought to a sudden end on Sunday night with a mic cut and jazz music playing him off the stage, like he went too long in an awards speech.

Biden was mid-flow and answering questions from journalists when he was interrupted and forced to shuffle away and head backstage.

‘We talked about stability, we talked about the Third World, excuse me, the Southern Hemisphere has access to change. It wasn’t confrontational at all….’ Biden said as he rambled on.

Suddenly, the booming voice of his press secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, could be heard butting in.

‘Thank you everybody. This ends the press conference. Thanks everyone,’ she said as she brought the presser to a close.

In another bizarre twist, sleepy jazz music then began to play over the loudspeaker, with the 80-year-old still seemingly trying to answer questions as he continued to speak into the microphone.

As the president tried to answer a few more questions, the music grew louder prompting Biden to put away his leather-backed folder and shuffle offstage, disappearing behind a black curtain.

Earlier in the press conference in Hanoi, Vietnam, following the G20 summit in New Delhi, India, Biden risked upsetting his Vietnamese hosts with quotes from the Robin Williams movie Good Morning, Vietnam – which he seemed to think was a song.

The president arrived in the country after two days at the G20 summit in India and admitted he was struggling to tell if it was day or night.

‘Good evening, everyone,’ he told a press conference.

‘It’s already evening, isn’t it? It’s around the world in five days – it’s interesting.

‘One of my coworkers said, ‘Remember the famous song ‘Good Morning Vietnam’?’ Well, good evening, Vietnam’.’

In what was supposed to be a show of stamina – Biden is circumnavigating the globe in five days – he ended the 26-minute event by saying, ‘I’m going to go to bed.’

The president had been asked if he was concerned that there was no agreement on fossil fuels that came out of the G20 Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi.

He regaled reporters with a story he says is from a John Wayne movie and features the ‘Indians’ – not the ones he just met with – who don’t buy it when a Union soldier says ‘everything will be good’ if they go back to the reservation.

‘And the Indian looks at John Wayne and points to the Union soldier and says, ‘He’s a lying dog-faced pony soldier.’ Well, there’s a lot of lying dog faced pony soldiers out there about global warming. But not anymore,’ Biden said. ‘All of the sudden, they’re all realizing it’s a problem,’ the president said, whispering into the mic.

He’s used ‘lying dog-faced pony soldier,’ once at a 2020 campaign event in New Hampshire and at an event in Connecticut in June, where he also muttered, ‘God save the Queen, man.’

The president’s clumsy comments were leapt on by opponents and slammed by critics as further signs that he would struggle to cope with a second term.

‘Biden gets VERY confused during his ‘press conference’ in Vietnam,’ tweeted RNC Research.

‘And Democrats wonder why Biden isn’t polling better,’ added former Trump senior adviser Jason Miller.

Others cringed at his misplaced attempt at humor warning that his jokey reference to the Vietnam War risked upsetting a key ally in the struggle against China.

‘Oh good, reference the darkly satirical title of a movie about a horrible and bloody war that still looms largely in Vietnam’s psyche,’ tweeted FuriaDiDonna.

‘So he’s making a joke in Vietnam about a catchphrase (not a song) in a (great) movie that’s about the US being at war in their country??’ added Booker9e.

‘The Joe Biden Comedy Hour,’ wrote Robert Phyithree.

‘Stick around, it will only get more ridiculous and sublime.’

The 1987 film was one of the biggest hits of the year, telling the story of Airman Adrian Cronauer who arrived in Saigon to work as a DJ for Armed Forces Radio as the war intensified in 1965.

The questions were China-heavy and Biden skipped answering queries when they were piggybacked on another question – so he didn’t address Russia and North Korea going into business together, nor Ukraine’s discontent with the G20 statement on the war, which didn’t name Russia as the aggressor.

The choice of journalist also appeared to have Biden mostly ignoring a group of U.S. print and TV reporters who were girding to get into domestic concerns like his low poll numbers due to his advanced age and a possible indictment of his son, Hunter, on a gun charge.

Those polls show a broad concern about his age going into a second term, with a survey last week from AP-NORC showing that 77 percent of Americans, including 69 percent of Democrats, believe Biden is too old to run for reelection.

A Wall Street Journal poll out Monday had similar findings, with 73 percent of voters saying Biden is too old to run again, including two-thirds of Democrats.

White House aides pointed to this whirlwind trip as evidence that Biden is up to the job.

He later joked that the schedule was ‘no problem.’

‘I can imagine. It is evening, I’d like remind you,’ a BBC reporter quipped to the president.

At one point, Biden grabbed the hand mic and started walking.

He moved toward the side of the stage where one of the five chosen reporters was standing, but it briefly gave the appearance he was abandoning the press conference.

Every reporter on the list was a woman, something that wasn’t lost on a journalist from the independent U.S.-backed Voice of America.

‘Thank you Mr. President. I hope you didn’t think that calling only on women would get you softballs tonight,’ she told him.

After Biden answered one of the two questions posed to him by VOA, he told the journalists, ‘I tell you what, I don’t know about you, but I’m going to go to bed.’

A White House official later defended Biden’s performance saying he ‘substantively answered questions’ from several reporters during the press conference.

‘The President substantively answered questions from 7 reporters. This is a distraction, and it would do your readers a good service to dive into his answers on China, relations with Indo-Pacific countries, human rights and climate change instead,’ the official said in a statement.

My hunch is, Ngannou is and Fury isn’t. Fury will want to just stay out of the way.

Martin reckons if, and it’s a big if, Ngannou lands a punch on Fury’s chin, Fury’s going to sleep.

That’s probably true. But frankly I don’t see Ngannou getting close.

His boxing career, in my opinion, is essentially over already. He obviously doesn’t want to fight Usyk so he’s just taken the Floyd Mayweather route of fighting people he knows he’ll beat to pad his record and earn wads of cash before he retires.

Tommy Fury’s father, John, erupted on stage while supporting his son during Tuesday’s press conference.

John was seen flipping tables and shouting at KSI after the YouTube-turned-boxer threw shade on the Fury name.

KSI – who will go toe-to-toe with Tommy at the AO Arena in Manchester on Saturday, October 14 – was heard mocking the Gypsy family.

KSI’s business partner Logan Paul – who will be fighting Dillon Danis on the same evening – was also heard criticising the Fury’s before John kicked off.

John rose from his chair and shouted ‘the Fury’s are the best fighters in the world’ to cut Logan off mid-way through his speech.

John was furious with KSI and snapped back: ‘Full of s***. Full of s***. Shut up ‘mother******. Come fight me now instead of talking all this bull**** about people’s f****** b*******.

He continued: ‘We are fighting men. My son [pointing to Tommy] will fight him now [pointing to KSI] and then fight anyone else who wants it. Now, lets get the f****** ball rolling.

‘Get the cake and shove it up your a*** hole before I do it. All these little f****** kids. I am a machine. Me! Can anyone question who I am here? I will take them’.

John finished by knocking the microphones over and flipping his table before kicking KSI’s table over too.

The YouTuber-turned-boxer was furious and jumped to his feet to square up to Tommy’s father.

As a result, security rushed in as both teams went gunning for each other.

Money expert Martin Lewis has warned Britons that there’s one button they should never press while holidaying overseas.

When travellers take out money from an ATM or pay with their debit or credit card abroad, they’re typically asked whether they’d like to pay in the local currency or in British pounds.

Martin explained that people should never push the ‘convert to GBP’ button, as a markup cost is likely to be added to carry out the conversion.

On an episode of ITV‘s Martin Lewis Money Show, the 51-year-old travelled to Malaga, Spain, and demonstrated how ATMs charge you to carry out a conversion, noting: ‘[The ATM] says “markup 4.5 per cent”, so they are adding a 4.5 per cent load on top of the exchange rate.

‘You do not want this machine to do the conversion for you.

‘You want your card company at home to do the conversion because, even if it’s not a good card, it’s a better rate. Continue with conversion? No way, it’s going to cost me 20 quid more than it should.’

He added that the machine’s offer of carrying out a conversion is a ‘psychological scare tactic’ that travellers can be victim to, adding: ‘Do not pay to pay.

‘When you go into a shop, when you go to a cash machine, and it says “do you want us to do the conversion for you”, no, no, no. Pay in the local currency.’

The TV personality, who founded the website MoneySavingExpert.com, also recommends that travellers get a specialist overseas debit or credit card to take advantage of the ‘near-perfect’ exchange rates they offer.

Mr Lewis explained: ‘What normally happens when you spend on plastic abroad is when you spend on the card, the bank or the card provider gets a near-perfect rate and they add a 3 per cent non-sterling exchange rate fee.

‘This means you get £100 worth of euros, dollars, or dong, which is the Vietnamese currency… but it costs you £103 because of the extra 3 per cent.’

‘But the specialist cards don’t add that 3 per cent and you get the near-perfect rates that they do.’

According to Mr Lewis, the specialist cards worth opting for currently are the Barclaycard Rewards credit card, the Chase debit card and the Halifax Clarity credit card.

Another way travellers can conserve holiday cash is by picking a destination where their pound is guaranteed to stretch further in the first place.

Earlier this year, Post Office Travel Money revealed that Cape Town in South Africa is the world’s best-value holiday hotspot for Britons in 2023.

It’s followed by Marmaris in Turkey in second place and Sunny Beach in Bulgaria in third. Meanwhile, Reykjavik in Iceland was revealed to be the worst-value holiday destination for British holidaymakers.

Top Republican Steve Scalise is vowing to uncover all information related to the Biden family’s ‘web of corruption,’ including alleged phone recordings linking Joe and Hunter to a $5 million bribe from a Ukranian energy company executive.

Scalise told DailyMail.com Tuesday on the sidelines of practice for the annual Congressional Baseball Game this week that the American people are beginning to see the ‘whole Biden family web of corruption’ that’s been laid out by the House Oversight Committee led by Chairman James Comer, R-Ky.

Republican Senator Chuck Grassley revealed on Monday that the Burisma Holdings Limited executive who allegedly paid then-Vice President Joe Biden the $5 million bribe has kept 17 audio recordings of phone calls as an ‘insurance policy.’

He claims they were kept as an ‘insurance policy’ in case the foreign national was in a ‘tight spot.’

According to a ‘highly credible’ whistleblower, an internal FD-1023 memo created in 2020 based off information from a highly-paid FBI informant apparently details the ‘arrangement’ for an exchange of money for policy decisions. Republicans are pressing the FBI to make the document public to the American people.

Scalise told DailyMail.com that ‘we’re gonna press to get everything we can out’ related to the 17 alleged audio recordings.

‘Senator Grassley has done a great job through his career at getting whistleblowers to step forward,’ the top House Republican continued.

He said Grassley’s work with Comer on uncovering the whistleblower’s allegations led to the subpoena of the FBI last month – which Director Wray did not comply with. Republicans are now mulling contempt of Congress charges against him.

Scalise continued: ‘We’re gonna keep digging’ and work with other whistleblowers ‘to get the facts out.’

He slammed the ‘mainstream media’ for not caring about the web of payments between foreign nationals and the Biden family.

In early May, Republicans led by Comer and Grassley released a report digging in on over $10 million received by Biden family members from foreign actors, including previously undisclosed $1 million in Romanian-linked payments, and a ‘web’ of 20 companies created while President Joe Biden was vice president and pushing anti-corruption efforts abroad.

He says it ‘angers people’ who see the different treatment given to Biden and to Trump, who is Miami, Florida, Tuesday.

He was arraigned on a 37-count federal indictment for his alleged mishandling of classified documents and obstruction of justice and pleaded ‘not guilty.’

Local law enforcement were preparing for thousands of protestors outside the courthouse.

‘It seems like justice is not being administered fairly,’ he continued, pointing to how Hillary Clinton did not get charged with destroying over 30,000 emails off her server and the Biden family has been so far off the hook for being involved in an alleged bribery scheme.

‘That’s not how justice works, and it undermines the what’s good about our justice system. And so I think that’s the biggest frustration.’

He slammed the mainstream media for ignoring the alleged Biden bribery ring, and instead focusing all coverage on Trump’s indictment.

‘That should be alarming to everybody,’ he continued.
