A sparsely populated area of Alaska home to hundreds UFO and ‘bigfoot’ style sightings has also seen 20,000 people disappear since 1970.

While many have a heard of the Bermuda Triangle, a patch of ocean in the Caribbean known for mysterious airplane and boating disasters, the so-called Alaskan Triangle has managed to slip largely under the public radar, despite having a missing persons rate more than double the national average.

Located between Juneau, Anchorage and the small town of Barrow, the area is reportedly a hotbed of paranormal activity.

Explanations for the strange phenomenon have ranged from everything from alien activity to powerful electromagnetic fields in the area, similar to those found in the Bermuda Triangle.

Local legends refer to a ‘sasquatch’ creature terrorizing towns. This includes one settlement called Portlock on the southern edge of the Kenai Peninsula which was abandoned in the 1950s after villagers were ‘attacked and killed’ by an unknown creature they called the Nantinaq.

Rep Nicholas Belgich disappeared in 1972 along with fellow Rep Hale Boggs, an aide and a pilot on a flight through the Alaska Triangle. It is thought the aircraft crashed though no remains were ever found

In recent years however, the area has been the backdrop to thousands of unexplained vanishings.

Despite being just one per cent inhabited, Alaska has far and away the most missing people compared to any other state with  an average of 42.16 per 100,000, according to World Population Review.

The next highest state for missing persons is Arizona with 12.28, double the national average of 6.5 people per 100,000.

One of the first disappearances to pique interest in the Alaska Triangle took place in 1972, when U.S. Reps. Hale Boggs and Nick Begich along with an aide and their pilot disappeared following a suspected plane crash.

The group was traveling from Anchorage to Juneau when they are thought to have gone down, though no wreckage or any bodies were ever found despite almost 40 days of searches.

More recently Shanna Oman, 43, disappeared while visiting a friend in Fairbanks on June 3, 2019. Oman had made arrangements to get a ride home with a friend, but never materialized or returned home.

She left without any belongings or her dog and her disappearance has perplexed authorities who searched for days using helicopters and canine units.

Even experienced outdoorsmen are not safe. In 2011, mountain rescuer Gerald DeBerry, 43, went out with a group in the White Mountains about 70 miles north of Fairbanks to search for a missing woman but never returned from the expedition.

A year later his ATV was discovered with the engine switched off, but no sign of its owner.

Various conspiracy theories have been posited as an explanation to the mass disappearances in the area.

Field researcher Ken Gerhard told the History Channel that the triangle could be a ‘vile vortice’, a lozenge-shaped area with increased electromagnetic force.

He said: ‘The theory is that these particular areas are supercharged with geo electromagnetic energy and that abundance of electromagnetic energy results in some strange things’.’

A new Discovery documentary has interviewed people with some of the most compelling paranormal experiences. They include Wes Smith who saw ‘very strange’ triangular objects flying without emitting any sound.

He said: ‘It’s like everything you’ve ever been taught has gone out of the window, because how is that possible?’

UFO expert Debbie Ziegelmeyer told the Daily Star that Alaska’s sparse population makes it ‘attractive’ to extraterrestrials.

‘They can pretty much go where they want,’ said Debbie, who is the Star Team Investigator for MUFON . ‘That’s the attraction of Alaska.’

One of the biggest disappearances was the loss of 44 military personnel aboard a a Douglas C-54 Skymaster en route from Alaska to Montana. Despite one of the biggest joint search and rescue missions by Canadian and American authorities, no trace has ever been found.

Meanwhile, cryptozoologist Cliff Barackman told the outlet that ‘anything, of any size,’ could be hiding in the Alaskan wilderness.

He said: ‘With so much fantastic habitat and so few people to compete with, Sasquatches basically have the run of Alaska’.

Justin Hawkins was spotted walking hand-in-hand with a mystery lady in London on Thursday.

It comes just over a year after the singer, 48, revealed he was a happily married father-of-one, living with wife Sarah and young daughter in rural Switzerland.

However Justin appeared to have moved on as he was seen with the gorgeous brunette as they enjoyed a sunny stroll.

The I Believe In A Thing Called Love hitmaker donned a plaid shirt, jeans and toted his essentials in a Celine backpack.

He kept a low profile by wearing a black cap and sunglasses, and allowed his iocnic shoulder-length locks to flow freely.

Meanwhile his companion cut a chic figure in an oversized white blouse and black trousers while puffing on a cigarette.

The couple appeared totally at ease in each other’s company as they chatted together before stopping at a coffee shop.

MailOnline have contacted Justin’s reps for comment.

He told MailOnline in June 2022 that he was a happy vegan, married, father-of-one living a quiet life in rural Switzerland – when discussing swapping his drug fuelled Rock and Roll lifestyle for a quiet life.

Justin and Sarah, a daughter, nine, whose name has not been revealed publicly.

Speaking about his wife and life in Switzerland to MailOnline he said: ‘They’re the reason I live there, [because that’s where his family live].

‘I live in quite a rural part so the only time I am in contact with anyone English speaking folk is when I see my daughter.

‘So those times are really important to me. I always block out her birthday in the calendar.’

He also told Metro in 2019: ‘I have a wife and a child [In Switzerland]  and it’s important to spend time in the same country as your family.’

Justin said he was delighted when he was eliminated from The Masked Singer – in which he appeared as The Chameleon, in 2020, just two weeks into the series – because he would have missed his daughter’s birthday otherwise, as he would have to have remained in the UK to film.

He said: ‘She thinks I am cool, for now. I’ve got another year or so before that wears off I think.

‘I’m looking forward to the hormones kicking in. The times when she is rebellious, I quite enjoy those really.

‘It’s difficult for dads, especially absent dads, [because he is often on tour]. I think the rebellion that occurs, I don’t think I’ll get the full brunt of it really. If anything I’ve encouraged it.’

Justin was also previously engaged to Sue Whitehouse, the Darkness’ former manager.

The two split in 2003 after Hawkins claimed his drug use influenced him to sleep with numerous other women.

Justin famously spent £150,000 of his estimated £6million fortune on cocaine, living a life of excess which caused him to quit his band in 2006, and go into recovery – before reuniting last year.

The Darkness called it quits in 2006 after their rock and roll lifestyle took a toll. However, in 2015 they decided to give fame another go, and released a fourth album.

Speaking at the time, he told the Daily Mail: ‘I had to make a lot of tough decisions when I left the band, but leaving my brother was the hardest.

‘After a while, though, any awkwardness between us disappeared. We started writing songs together and that laid the foundations for this return…

‘There are the bands who have a little success before a slow decline. Then there are the ones who ride the roller-coaster, where your mood swings constantly between jubilation and despair. I prefer the rollercoaster.’

In 2011 the band reunited and went on to tour around the world.

In January 2020, The Darkness released a new video for In Another Life, which featured model Abbey Clancy.

Most recently Justin performed for the Taylor Hawkins tribute concert and joined Eurovision 2022 runner-up Sam Ryder after this year’s contest aired for a BBC special where he sang I Believe In A Thing Called Love.

A group of lawmakers is planning to put the search for the truth about UFOs front and center by demanding a special committee with the power to prize information from government that could prove whistleblowers’ claims of a secret program hiding ‘non-human’ crashed craft.

Four members wrote to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy on Friday requesting a Select Committee on Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena to ramp up their probe.

One of the signers, Republican congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna, told DailyMail.com she and her colleagues would not stop until they got to the bottom of the UFO mystery, and threatened to defund Pentagon bosses’ salaries if they didn’t cough up their alleged secrets.

The news comes after an historic congressional hearing last Wednesday where 14-year intelligence veteran David Grusch testified under oath that he had evidence of a secret alien ship crash retrieval program – including photographs and interviews with insiders.

House Oversight Committee member Luna – who says she first became interested in UFOs while serving in the Air Force – revealed she is asking the Defense Department and intelligence agencies for the classified reports Grusch made, including his alleged evidence.

She also vowed to probe his claim that he had been threatened for coming forward, and that others may have even been killed.

‘To me, that is extremely scary. That’s not how a republic runs itself, that’s how a mob runs itself,’ Luna, 34, told DailyMail.com.

‘We’re trying to go after all of them,’ the Florida congresswoman – who is expecting her first child – said. ‘This is a massive deal and we have to get to the bottom of it.

‘We are requesting the Inspector General report that Grusch was testifying to in the hearing. That’s going to be pretty important, because that contains a lot of bombshell information from what we’re gathering.

‘We’re actually trying to get a select committee under Oversight so that we can do the subpoenaing,’ she added.

Luna joined Republicans Matt Gaetz and Tim Burchett as well as Democrat Jared Moskowitz writing a letter on July 27 to Speaker McCarthy requesting the new UFO committee.

If granted new powers, Luna said she would be hauling in front of lawmakers ‘people that know more information that can divulge and can possibly even protect lives.’

‘I want to see names, documentation, images and footage. According to what Grusch says and what I have seen, that exists. So let’s try to declassify it,’ she said.

In Wednesday’s hearing, Grusch even offered Congresswoman Nancy Mace to write a list of ‘hostile’ and cooperative witnesses for the committee to target – though Mace’s spokesman said the former top intelligence official has not followed through yet.

Among other measures Luna and Tennessee congressman Burchett are proposing in their UFO hunt are ‘field hearings’, to grill Pentagon officials at locations where they believe crashed craft may be stashed.

They are also planning to give teeth to whistleblower protection laws, with ‘punitive actions for those that try to harm, intimidate or intentionally discredit whistleblowers that are coming forward with information that is pertinent to national security and the US government,’ Luna said.

‘It needs to be so tight, that people will fear if they come after a whistleblower.’

And if denied records or access, the Florida Republican said she is ready to strip government officials of their salaries.

‘We pay these people’s salaries, we’re paying into these programs billions of dollars and yet they don’t want to share this information. I just disagree with that,’ she said.

‘If we continue to see this wall of silence, where they’re giving us the runaround, we reserve the right to actually defund positions.’

Retired Navy Commander David Fravor reminded the world about his infamous 2004 encounter with the 'Tic Tac' UFO. 'I'd like to say that the tic tac object we engaged in 2004 was far superior to anything that we had at the time, have today or are looking to develop in the next 10 years,' he said

Although he dropped several bombshells, including sworn claims of a decades-long government coverup of crashed ‘non-human’ spacecraft, Grusch answered many of the lawmakers’ questions by saying he was unable to divulge classified data outside of a secure environment.

Luna and Burchett complained that they had tried to book a session in a Secure Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) ahead of the hearing, but intelligence agency civil servants turned them down.

‘The reasoning for why we could not get the SCIF according to the Hill was that Grusch did not have active security clearances,’ Luna told DailyMail.com.

A source close to Grusch said he retained his clearance after leaving government, as is normal for recent veterans, but that he needs the Pentagon to ‘read him back in’ and provide new non-disclosure agreements for him to sign before he can talk freely to House members.

‘It’s pretty disturbing. We’re talking about him saying he was in fear of his life, that people have been harmed in the process, technology that we don’t necessarily have,’ Luna said.

‘And yet we were not authorized any access to any of that information. And we have ‘Need To Know’ clearances. ‘We have to find out what happened.’

Luna revealed that her interest in UFOs was first piqued while serving as an Air Force airfield manager at Portland Air National Guard Base, Oregon, in 2018 before becoming a politician.

‘During shifts one day, there had been a response from some of the pilots to something that had violated our airspace,’ she said.

‘When they got back, I asked them what happened. They said ‘we can’t really talk about it.’ Later on, one of the pilots pulled me aside and was like, we think it might have been a UFO or UAP.

‘This was a pretty credible person, I obviously knew them to be sane, of sound mind.’

Mystery wolf slayer who leaves the dead animals displayed in Tuscan villages has shot seven of them and STRANGLED one in bizarre vendetta

  • Eight endangered wolves found dead since the beginning of November
  • Killers left carcasses in village piazzas and on the steps of a theatre
  • Sheep farmers thought to be behind the slaughters
  • Decimated sheep flocks have ruined many farmers in the area
  • Since being reintroduced, Tuscany’s wolf population has grown to 230
  • Deaths have sparked a row between conservation groups and local farmers

Its medieval hilltowns, scorched valleys and free-flowing Chianti have made Tuscany a hit with British expats and tourists. But in recent weeks the peaceful vales have been rocked by a predatory serial killer.

Eight endangered native wolves have been found dead since the beginning of November, with three fresh corpses emerging in the last week alone.

In an apparently political gesture, the vigilante killer, or killers, have displayed the carcasses where they will be widely seen, in village piazzas, and, in one case, on the steps of a theatre.

All but one of the protected animals was shot, while the others were strangled. The slaughters are thought to be the work of an exasperated sheep farmer carrying out a personal vendetta after attacks on his flock.

Vet Marco Aloisi, director of a local wildlife recovery centre, said that placing the wolves’ bodies on public display appeared to be ‘a protest’.

Wolves were reintroduced to Tuscany from the mountains of the Abruzzo in the 1990s, using EU funding.

MFI furniture millionaire Paul Lister has similar plans to reintroduce wolves to his estate in Alladale, Scotland, despite the fact that they became extinct in the UK in the 17th century.

Wolves in Italy have been growing in numbers, as illegal hunting by farmers has become less common, and there are now an estimated 230 in Tuscany.

The packs usually live high in the Apennine mountains, but are driven down to farmland by cold weather or when they are unable to find enough prey.

In the past two years they have ventured lower than ever before. Wolves were responsible for 1000 attacks on sheep, cattle and horses in 2012, according to official figures.

Since then, a surge in the marauding attacks has decimated flocks in the coastal Maremma district.

In some areas production has halved, bringing farmers to the brink of ruin.

Regional projects to limit damage caused by wolves, including traps and specially trained dogs have largely failed.

Many sympathise with the farmers’ frustration.

Local MP Luca Sani, chairman of the Agriculture Committee of the Lower House of Parliament, said: ‘Killing wolves is a matter of great concern. However, it would be irresponsible to put our heads in the sand and not recognise that this action is a worrying sign of the exasperation felt by our farmers.’

Conservation groups have organised protests, calling for swift justice. James Bottinelli, spokesman for the A law Against Vivisection group in Grosseto, said: ‘Anyone who kills an animal is a criminal and must be stopped, but particularly in a case like this, where we are dealing with a serial killer.’

I had almost given up on a holiday abroad this summer as they’re now so eye-wateringly expensive. Flights alone cost over a quarter more than last year.

But then I saw an advert by discount website Wowcher that brought a holiday for me and my wife back into my miserly grasp.

The deal offers flights and two-nights’ accommodation for two somewhere abroad for just £99 per person.

The only catch? The trip is labelled ‘The Ultimate Mystery Holiday’ — in other words, we would not know before paying for it where we would be going.

The advertisement showed tantalising images of New York, Las Vegas and Mexico, along with sun-kissed beach scenes that looked as if they could be Barbados or the Maldives. So, I decided to gamble.

The chance to jet away for a romantic weekend with my wife for under £200 seemed too good an offer to pass up.

Have you ever been on an ‘Ultimate Mystery’ holiday?

Please let us know what your experience was like by emailing toby.walne@dailymail.co.uk

The deal promised we would be given four-star accommodation — and 1,386 such breaks had already been snapped up in June and July.

Not wanting to miss out, I fumbled for my wallet to pay for our mystery trip.

However, I quickly learned that the £99 price was only from the autumn — as we want to go before the summer is out, the price was actually £129.

And then there was a £9.99 ‘administration’ charge, bringing the total to £267.99.

Trip to a place that does not exist

Still, I was feeling hopeful when, within hours of paying, I received an email asking for some date options for when we would be available to jet off. I excitedly broke the news to my wife.

Then we waited patiently, passports at the ready as the first weekend that we had asked for came and went. Eventually, a week later, I finally received that expected call.

Ashish was courteous and friendly, ringing from a call centre in India. There was a rehearsed sense of theatre to the proceedings — as if he were opening a golden envelope.

‘Congratulations . . . you have two tickets to Sofia in Germany,’ he announced. I have been to Sofia in the past and I’m pretty sure it’s in Bulgaria. Is he sure?

‘Ah yes. Sorry. It is Bulgaria,’ admitted Ashish. Although I have nothing against this lovely country, it was not what I had in mind for our summer break and I asked if I could have another go at the lucky dip. This time he came back with Gdansk in Poland.

Again, nonplussed. I told him I was willing to sulk on the line until he found a weekend break more to my liking.

Originally they were going to put me off the main island at Hotel San Giuliano. It was a basic three-star some five miles out of Venice itself. I looked it up and could have got it for £170 for two nights if I’d booked directly. So, if I had booked the break myself I would have paid £10 less than with the mystery offer

Special deal doubles in price

My intransigence paid off and after ten minutes Ashish came back — with an offer of Milan in Italy at the end of July.

We went through the itinerary and when Ashish said we would be flying from my local airport Stansted, just 12 miles away, I was delighted.

There was a slight hiccup in that the break was for three nights not the two as requested — but as I was hopeful I could arrange the extra time off work, I still eagerly agreed to the offer.

‘Because you are booking for an extra day there is a supplementary charge of £129 per person,’ Ashish then calmly added. I argued that I should not have to pay the supplement since it was the decision of the tour operator — not me — to extend the trip.

But my argument failed to impress. Suddenly the price of the holiday had doubled and an initial expectation of £198 had risen to a total of £525.99. Not quite the money-saving trip I had in mind.

Ashish explained that ‘because June and July are so popular there is much less choice’.

As a compromise I was willing to forget the summer break and go any time he had available.

Other European destinations included two-night breaks in Dubrovnik, Genoa and Santander

Summer stay — in winter

Ashish then went away for a further 20 minutes to find what else might be in the tour operator’s mystery locker. I was feeling grateful for finding someone so helpful.

He could all too easily have told me there were no more choices on the table or done what so many firms do these days when they don’t want to help — and just hung up.

It also helped that I remained courteous, understanding all too well the unnecessary abuse call centre staff often suffer when just trying to do their job.

Eventually Ashish came back on the line: ‘Okay. Venice in November. That is the best I can do.’

The negotiating was over and I felt this was a fair result as it cost the original £267.99 I had paid for. Yet it was still not for when I actually wanted to travel and would involve going from Gatwick airport — considerably less convenient than Stansted.

The itinerary was emailed through moments later from a company called ‘Weekender Breaks’. Apparently, we would be travelling via Wizz Air (it holds the dubious honour of being ‘the worst short-haul airline’, according to consumer group Which?).

Had I bought two return flight tickets separately for these journeys, it would have cost just £88. Naturally, the tickets only included a hand baggage allowance. If we had taken suitcases they would have cost more than the flights.

But the hotel was the biggest disappointment — as it was a basic three-star some five miles out of Venice itself. I looked it up and could have got it for £170 for two nights if I’d booked directly. So, if I had booked the break myself I would have paid £10 less than with the mystery offer.

Great expectations not quite met

This mystery holiday had turned into a bit of a damp squib and I called the next day to explain my disappointment.

In preparation, I was armed with the knowledge that when booking a holiday under package travel regulations there is protection if the holiday does not turn out to be as expected.

And it would be fair to assume that when booking an advertised break in Venice, this is where I might expect to stay.

Politely I put forward this case. To my surprise, it worked, and I was upgraded to a four-star hotel (as initially promised in the promotion) in Venice.

This accommodation costs £300 to book directly — so by using the Mystery Holiday deal I was now £120 up.

Odds of winning the perfect break

Weekender Breaks is the trading name of Viva Holidays, which is an agent for Hays Travel.

Delve into the small-print terms and conditions — tucked in a link under ‘the fine print’ — and you will find holidays are sold in batches of 1,000 to a wide variety of destinations.

Only one in 1,000 bought are to Barbados. And you get the same odds for hitting the jackpot with locations such as New York and Dubai.

There are more than 50 other ‘winning’ destinations, with many offering dozens of breaks — almost all of which are in Europe.

A tip for anyone tempted to buy a Mystery Holiday — print off the full list of available destinations and have it to hand when you are told where you are being sent, so you are better prepared to fight for where you really want to go.

A spokesman for Hays Travel says: ‘We advise people to always read the small print on deals offering holidays costing well below the market value. It helps keep expectations realistic.’

But is the mystery holiday worth a punt? Well, after quite a bit of haggling and several phone calls, I ended up making some savings.

But — as with so many things in life — I discovered you get what you pay for.

Could a Yorkshire mine help solve the universe’s greatest mystery? British scientists want to build a giant particle detector 3,000ft below ground to pinpoint the source of dark matter

Hidden half a mile below ground, a Yorkshire mine is now a hub of scientific activity.

That’s because it houses a bustling research centre and a newly-created Mars simulation habitat aimed at studying how humans will survive during future missions to the Red Planet.

But British scientists don’t want their exploration of the solar system to end there.

They also want to help solve the universe’s greatest mystery by building a giant particle detector at the working mine in Boulby to uncover the source of dark matter.

This enigmatic material is believed to make up around 85 per cent of the universe but has never been directly observed.

WHAT IS DARK MATTER?

Dark matter is a hypothetical substance said to make up roughly 85 per cent of the universe.

The enigmatic material is invisible because it does not reflect light, and has never been directly observed by scientists.

Astronomers know it to be out there because of its gravitational effects on known matter.

The European Space Agency says: ‘Shine a torch in a completely dark room, and you will see only what the torch illuminates.

‘That does not mean that the room around you does not exist.

‘Similarly we know dark matter exists but have never observed it directly.’

The material is thought to be the gravitational ‘glue’ that holds the galaxies together.

Calculations show that many galaxies would be torn apart instead of rotating if they weren’t held together by a large amount of dark matter.

Just five per cent the observable universe consists of known matter such as atoms and subatomic particles.

Astronomers know it to be out there because of its gravitational effects on known matter — they can see that galaxies are held together in clusters when they should be flying apart.

Most experts believe that the source of this dark matter is particles called Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs).

They got their name because they are thought to react with normal matter, but only rarely, which makes WIMPs incredibly hard to detect.

For two decades scientists have tried, but despite building more and more sensitive detectors they have had no luck.

That’s why a global project is under way to build a new particle detector under ground — and Yorkshire is among the sites where it could happen.

A mine in South Dakota and Italy’s state-of-the-art underground laboratory 80 miles from Rome are also in the running for the new International Dark Matter Centre.

However, scientists say time is running out to spot WIMPs because once detectors reach a certain level of sensitivity, which is what will happen with then next generation of devices, they will start to pick up other signals too.

This is known as the ‘neutrino fog’, because it creates confusion as to whether what has been seen is a WIMP or a signal from neutrinos — subatomic particles that are similar to an electron but with no electrical charge and a very small mass.

‘We are entering the last-chance saloon to show that these particles are the cause of dark matter, and we want to make sure Britain is at the heart of that work by building the final generation of these detectors,’ physicist Professor Chamkaur Ghag of University College London told the Observer.

There are currently scientific sites across the world trying to identify WIMPS, but because time is of the essence research groups have agreed to put their heads together to select one hub to concentrate resources.

Known as the XLZD experiments, scientists here hope Britain will be chosen to host it.

The mine’s Mars simulation, known as the ‘Bio-SPHERE project’, has been launched in a 3,000-metre tunnel network through 250 million-year-old salt deposits.

The salty conditions and subsurface location provide similar conditions to those experienced in caverns on both the Red Planet and the moon.

Scientists will be based within a 9ft-wide (three metre-wide) module, designed specifically to try out medical procedures used to treat tissue damage.

Polymer-based medicines, hydrogels and various other fluids will be tested here, which can be used for wound dressings and injury prevention.

The base will also be used to see whether underground homes are key to dodging dangerous deep-space radiation and extreme temperatures on other worlds.

HOW A YORKSHIRE MINE COULD HOLD THE KEY TO LIFE ON MARS

It is the home of Yorkshire puddings, Marks & Spencer and even Guy Fawkes.

But Yorkshire could also hold the key to life on Mars, with scientists recreating the Red Planet in a mine almost one mile below the ground.

Researchers at the University of Birmingham are using one of the deepest mines in the UK to see what it takes to survive and thrive on other planets.

Figuring out how to live and conducting medical procedures are among just a few of the experiments to take place at the Boulby polyhalite mine near Staithes.

The ‘Bio-SPHERE project’ could even pave the way for underground homes in space, as crews seek to dodge harmful meteor debris and radiation.

Mystery ‘pyramid’ beneath Antarctic ice sends conspiracy theorists wild

Conspiracy theorists have a new focus for their attention – a ‘pyramid’ in Antarctica.

Despite the continent being covered in snow and ice, and having no permanent human population, social media users are convinced a mysterious triagular structure can be seen from satelitte images.

But where has this supposed ‘pyramid’ come from? That’s a question which is currently baffling social media users everywhere.

The huge pyramid-shaped mass was spotted in satellite images taken over the southern part of Antarctica’s Ellsworth Mountain range.

A number of strange looking peaks were found in the area, with one measuring two kilometers in each direction of its square base – a design similar to the Great Pyramid of Giza, Egypt.

But after images of the ‘pyramids’ resurfaced this week, people have begun sharing theories on how the enormous structure could have come to be.

Taking to Twitter, one user said: ‘Wait how they moved the pyramids from Egypt to Antarctica?’

Some have suggested artificial life or fabled secret society ‘the Illuminati’ are behind the apparent structure, while others attributed the design to humans.

Others have offered even more outlandish ideas, one user wrote: ‘This structure belongs to the civilization which existed before the flood. Around 10,000 years ago Antarctica was warm.’

However, before you get too sucked in to the theory, the ‘pyramid’ in question is actually just a mountain.

The puzzling structure is a feature of glaciated areas known as ‘pyramidal peaked mountain’.

The Ellsworth Mountain Range was discovered in 1935, it is more than 400km long and consists of peaks made out of rock

‘The pyramid-shaped structures are located in the Ellsworth Mountains, which is a range more than 400 km long, so it’s no surprise there are rocky peaks cropping out above the ice. The peaks are clearly composed of rock, and it’s a coincidence that this particular peak has that shape,’ Dr Mitch Darcy, geologist at the German Research Centre for Geosciences in Potsdam, told IFLScience.

‘It’s not a complicated shape, so it’s not a special coincidence either. By definition, it is a nunatak, which is simply a peak of rock sticking out above a glacier or an ice sheet. This one has the shape of a pyramid, but that doesn’t make it a human construction.’

The Ellsworth Mountains are the highest mountain ranged in Antarctica, forming a 350km long and 48 km wide chain of mountains in a north to south configuration on the western margin of the Ronne Ice Shelf in Marie Byrd Land.

The mountains are located within the Chilean Antarctic territorial claim and were discovered in 1935 by Lincoln Ellsworth on a trans-Antarctic flight from Dundee Island to the Ross Ice Shelf.

The temperature in the Ellsworth mountains average around a frosty -30C, and the range only has a short window to visit, with the best time for expeditions being through November to January.

Consider it a mystery solved.

It turns out a book without a title or a cover, that shot up the best-seller rankings at Amazon and Barnes & Noble, is actually a biography about boy band sensation BTS, according to The New York Times.

Beyond The Story: 10-Year Record Of BTS was written by journalist Kang Myeong-seok, along with members of the group, and translated into English by Anton Hur.

Initially, many fans had suspected that the cryptic title was a Taylor Swift biography or memoir, and as a result pre-orders were sent soaring, which included being number one at Amazon.

The BTS biography is scheduled to be released this summer through Flatiron Books and Big Hit Music.

The biography was initially listed as ‘4C Untitled Flatiron Nonfiction Summer 2023’ on Amazon.

While little is known about book, it was first revealed to include 544 page, and has a release date of July 9.

As rumors began to swirl about it being a Taylor Swift memoir, her Swiftie fans took to social media to point out that 544 adds to to 13, which is the pop superstar’s favorite number and birthdate in December, as reported by Billboard.

Swift’s devoted fans also theorized that the July 9 release date might have been a reference to her song Last Kiss.

But as real BTS devotees know, July 9 is significant in that it’s the date the group’s millions of fans around the world celebrate Army Day, which is dedicated to their fandom as the day the name ‘Army’ was first coined.

This upcoming July 9 is even more noteworthy considering it will mark the 10th anniversary of the Army Day tradition.

Now that the book has been confirmed to be a BTS biography, it’s now being described as an ‘oral history of the K-Pop group in South Korea and the United States,’ according to The New York Times.

Beyond The Story: 10-Year Record Of BTS is currently on sale for $27 at Amazon and $29.99 for a Kindle version.

Fans can pre-order the upcoming book online at Amazon and Barnes & Noble for $39.99.

BTS was first formed in 2010, after Big Hit Entertainment CEO Bang Si-hyuk wanted to form a hip-hop group around RM (Kim Nam-joon), an underground rapper who was well known on the music scene in Seoul at the time.

But after seeing how record sales continued to drop around the world Si-hyuk changed course and decided to pursue a more marketable avenue and create an idol group, but one where the individuals would be free to express themselves and have input in the music.

Along with RM, the group would eventually consist of fellow rapper J-Hope and Suga, as well as vocalists Jin, Jimin, V and Jungkook.

Since 2013, BTS has released nine albums, seven compilation albums, and six extended plays.

By 2018, the group had surpassed 10 million albums sold, which set a record for reaching that milestone in the shortest span of time (5½ years) among all Korean acts to have debuted since 2000, with five million of those albums being sold in South Korea that year alone.

BTS went on to hit the mark of 20 million physical albums sold in South Korea in April 2020, earning them the distinction as being the best-selling Korean act of all time,

As of December 2022, BTS has sold more than 38 million albums domestically.

The husband of Finland‘s party-loving prime minister Sanna Marin was pictured with his arm around a mystery woman in a nightclub just weeks before he and his wife announced their divorce.

Businessman Markus Räikkönen, 37, is said to have flirted and danced intimately with the Indian woman who is believed to have been on holiday in Finland with Bollywood stars Rakul Preet and Pragya Jaiswal.

Finnish media reported that he drunkenly tried to kiss her as they stood together at the bar of the Post nightclub in Helsinki in the early hours of the morning, but she is said to have rebuffed his advances.

The encounter happened when Räikkönen and Marin, 37, appeared to be largely leading separate lives in the months before they finally revealed this week that they were splitting up after 19 years together.

It followed publication of the notorious videos last August showing Marin dancing intimately with celebrity friends, and earlier hosting a party for them at her official prime minister’s residence where a supermodel guest and another friend cheekily bared their breasts.

In an apparent further example of the growing cracks in her marriage, Marin is said to have spent Easter last month relaxing in Paris with a group of friends while her husband stayed in Finland.

The friends on the trip included 32-year-old Finnish politician Ilmari Nurminen, a fellow Social Democratic Party MP who has been described by Marin as her ‘bestie’, although there is no suggestion that they are in a relationship.

The Indian woman who danced with Räikkönen is reported to have travelled to Finland in March for a winter break with others from the Bollywood film industry including Rakul Preet and Pragya Jaiswal.

The group met up with the prime minister’s husband and chef Mikael Mihailov, known as Mr Caviar, at the famous Asian cuisine Farang restaurant in Helsinki, run by Finnish celebrity chef Tomi Björck.

Mihailov posted an Instagram picture featuring him and Räikkönen posing with the women on the steps of the restaurant, along with the caption: ‘Whatta lovely night, namaste’

Finnish gossip magazine Seskia described how Räikkönen visited the Post nightclub the following night with a woman travelling with the Bollywood stars.

The magazine reported how the pair were first spotted on the dance floor at midnight, and were in the club until past 4am.

One witness was reported as saying: ‘The other dancers noticed them easily, because they had a really intimate atmosphere’.

The witness added: ‘Markus huffed wildly against the woman. Sometimes the prime minister’s spouse moved behind the woman and began to poke her from behind with his hips. Markus was really hot.’

He and the woman who is not believed to be an actress were also spotted at the bar where he was photographed holding her around the hips.

The witness said: ‘Markus constantly tried to advance physically, but the woman backed off a bit. He was fully involved in the touching… Markus also tried to kiss the woman several times, but she didn’t give in.’

The witness said the prime minister’s husband was ‘starting to get quite drunk, so the squirming didn’t quite work anymore’.

Another witness told Seskia: ‘What surprised me the most was how openly Markus flirted with the woman. He didn’t care at all about the looks of others, even though he is married to Sanna.

‘I’m not terribly conservative, but yes, Markus should behave befitting the dignity of the prime minister’s spouse. Such a situation degrades the institution of the prime minister.’

Members of the Indian ‘girl gang’ headed up to Lapland after the night out where they went on husky sleigh rides, rode snow mobiles, trekked through forests and viewed the Northern Lights.

Rakul Preet who has 23 million followers on Instagram posted a series of pictures and videos of her and her friends enjoying their fun trip in the snow which was excitedly reported by Indian showbiz media.

Marin and her former footballer husband, who have been together since they were aged 18, but only married three-years-ago, jointly announced on Instagram this week that they were divorcing, but gave no reasons for their split.

The announcement was made just over a month after Marin revealed that she was stepping down as leader of the centre left Social Democratic Party after its defeat in elections, meaning that the country is likely to get a new conservative prime minister.

Her long-standing politician friend Ilmari Nurminen is known on social media in Finland as ‘Bile-Ilmari’ which translates as ‘Party-Ilmari’ because he is so often seen socialising with the prime minister.

Nurminen, who was vice chairman of the Finnish parliament’s LGBT group known as its ‘rainbow network’ in 2021, travelled to Paris with Marin and other friends for Easter after their party’s election defeat.

Marin posted an Instagram story picture of herself, dressed in her trademark black leather jacket, with Nurminen outside the Notre Dame cathedral with a message, saying: ‘It was a nice Easter in Paris with friends. Thank you for being there. You are loved.’

Meanwhile her husband stayed behind in Helsinki, posting black and white pictures of himself in Finland’s capital city.

Nurminen’s own Instagram page includes many with pictures of him and Marin, enjoying trips out and about, and at political events.

Marin made headlines around the world last August after videos showed her dancing with Finnish celebrity friends in two apartments before heading to a nightclub.

One video featured someone shouting the words ‘flour gang’ in the background, leading to speculation that drugs might have been taken as ‘flour’ is slang for cocaine in Finland.

The claims led to Marin holding a press conference when she denied ever taking drugs and insisting she had not seen any being taken by anyone else on her night out.

She revealed that she had taken a drugs test to prove her innocence, and her official spokesperson confirmed that the results had come back as negative.

Footage taken on the same night showed her dancing intimately on a crowded dancefloor of the Klubi nightclub in Helsinki with Finnish singer Olavi Uusivirta, 39, leading to him issuing a denial that they were having an affair.

Uusivirta was seen pressing his face against Ms Marin’s neck at one point in a gesture that some elements of the country’s media claimed was a kiss.

Marin later denied that Uusivirta had kissed her when they danced, saying that he might have leant towards her to say something.

She strongly defended her right to enjoy herself on a night out with friends, insisting that it did not interfere with her official duties.

Ms Marin claimed that she had drunk only a moderate amount and had not even woken up with a hangover in the morning.

Some commentators accused her of behaviour which was unbecoming of a world leader, while others claimed that she might not have been capable of making a proper decision if an emergency had arisen during her party weekend.

But many were more relaxed and said that she deserved to let her hair down, like anyone else.

Women from Finland and around the world also posted a string of videos of themselves dancing in various situations in a show of solidarity with her.

Other social media users compared Marin’s dance moves favourably with the clumsy dancefloor antics of Boris Johnson when he was the UK’s prime minister, suggesting that she would easily win a ‘prime ministers’ dance off’ between the UK and Finland.

It was also reported that witnesses saw Marin dancing with another two men in similar fashion and sitting on the laps of two others during the high-spirited night out.

Another raunchy video showed her dancing provocatively with Finnish social media influencer and former Finnsh beauty queen Sabina Särkkä, 34, as they draped their arms around each other with their legs nearly touching.

Marin was wearing the same white trousers and black sleeveless top in both videos suggesting they were filmed on the same night.

Other young revellers could be seen in the video looking on in amazement at the sight of their prime minister letting her hair down.

The publication of the footage sparked an angry backlash in Finland with some social media users condemning Seiska magazine as ‘sick’ for publishing it.

One Twitter user said: ‘There is absolutely nothing hot, nothing intimate, nothing special, but this is how women have fun with each other.’

Another added: ‘Which is worse? Wondering about the women dancing with each other or hinting that Sabina is not suitable company for married housewives.’

Uusivirta who got divorced from his wife in 2021, dismissed any suggestion last August that he was in a relationship with his country’s leader.

In a post on his social media accounts, he said: ‘There has been speculation in the public about the quality of the relationship between me and prime minister Sanna Marin.

‘Hand on heart I can just say it like it is: we are friends and nothing inappropriate has happened. I won’t comment on the matter anymore publicly. Have a great weekend!’

Marin was also forced to apologise last year when her former model friend Särkkä and another woman pulling up their tops while kissing each other during a fun evening at the prime minister’s official residence called Kesäranta after a visit to a rock festival.

The raunchy picture posted on Särkkä’s TikTok account was taken next to an official blue backdrop board in a workspace where Marin is often filmed making official announcements.

Särkkä who was dressed in a cowboy hat, denim shorts and a leather jacket held her hand over her breasts while her friend covered her chest in the picture by holding a sign saying ‘FINLAND’ which is usually on Marin’s desk.

The influencer also apologised saying she was ‘deeply sorry’ for the ‘inappropriate’ picture which should ‘never have been taken’.
