Amy Dowden issued a health update on Sunday as she underwent her second round of chemotherapy.

The Strictly Come Dancing star, 33, recently revealed that doctor’s discovered she has ‘another type of cancer‘ following her initial breast cancer diagnosis earlier this year.

In an emotional Instagram post, Amy revealed she is ‘heartbroken’ as her hair has started to shred.

She told her followers: ‘Wanted to be open and honest with you all from the start. So this cycle, I started feeling sick soon as second lot of ‘red devil’ was going in. Got home very tired and started being sick (even with all the anti sickness), by Friday afternoon the sickness stopped and just waves of nausea.

‘Still taking anti sickness now. Hardly any sleep due to steroids and insomnia they bring with them. Didn’t have any last cycle but some lovely mouth ulcer friends this time round.

‘But I’ve managed some walks, lovely homemade soups and smoothies and feeling even better today. The little wins!’

Amy went into detail about the fact that she is beginning to lose her hair. She added: ‘What I’ve found harder this time round and the last few days is hair shredding. Even though I’m cold capping you hope to keep 50% of your hair and there are also many benefits to the hair growing back quicker too.

‘But as much as I prepared myself waking up everyday gently combing my hair with a wide comb and seeing what comes out, it is just heartbreaking personally for me. I’m only washing my hair once, max twice, this week, not using any heat on my hair or styling it so I just don’t feel like me.

‘So it’s time to bring out the wig I say and get used to this and help me feel like me. I’m still Amy! Some days last week I’d wake and for the first few seconds you forget and then suddenly it all hits you, the day and challenges ahead and your new reality and it’s tough – had a few morning cries and learning that’s OK too.’

She then thanked everyone for their messages of support, penning: ‘Thank you again for all the lovely messages asking how I am, want to be open and honest and hopefully help others going through or those supporting those on their journeys too!

‘Again thanks to my family, friends and you guys for my lovely messages, I read them all, just don’t always have the energy to reply but I want you to know it really helps, means more than you will ever know! Not taken for granted and really appreciated and noticed!

‘You truly see how lucky you are to have amazing loved ones around you! Love to you all.’

Earlier this month, Amy celebrated her 33rd birthday with her twin sister Becky and shared a throwback photo to Instagram.

She heartbreakingly admitted that ‘any milestone is a reminder’ at the moment and ‘it hurts’ as she is far from what she ‘should be doing normally.’

The dancer added that her birthday wish was fo everyone to check themselves as she works to raise awareness.

In the throwback photo from Amy’s wedding, she and Becky looked glamorous as they got ready for the big day.

She captioned the update: ‘Happy birthday to my beautiful, kind, talented twin! Hope your day is as lovely as you and for sure next year we are making up for it! Love you Bex and thank you for everything you always do for me.

‘I wasn’t looking forward to this birthday. At the moment any milestone or event is a bigger reminder and hurts.’

‘I’m far from what I should and normally doing, in the rehearsal room with my strictly family. But all your wishes this morning have certainly cheered me up. This year my birthday wish is for all to take the time to check themselves!

‘Coppa Feel have so many useful resources! Doesn’t take long! That’s my birthday wish! Thank you so much again for all the love and support it really does help and mean so much to me. Welsh love Amy x’

The previous week, Amy gave fans an emotional update after completing her first round of chemotherapy.

After undergoing the treatment, Amy offered a brave face to the camera as she smiled sweetly in her hospital bed.

Covered in blankets and wearing a cold cap, the star admitted the experience ‘wasn’t as bad’ as she thought and quipped that she was ‘one step closer to being back on the dance floor’.

Heading home, Amy also posed outside the hospital, holding up one finger.

Amy was first diagnosed with aggressive stage three breast cancer in May.

She found a lump while preparing for her honeymoon with husband Ben Jones in April and shared her diagnosis weeks later.

The professional dancer has since had an operation, a mastectomy and has had fertility treatment.

What is breast cancer, how many people does it strike and what are the symptoms?

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers in the world. Each year in the UK there are more than 55,000 new cases, and the disease claims the lives of 11,500 women.

What is breast cancer?

Breast cancer develops from a cancerous cell which develops in the lining of a duct or lobule in one of the breasts.

When the breast cancer has spread into surrounding breast tissue it is called an ‘invasive’ breast cancer. Some people are diagnosed with ‘carcinoma in situ’, where no cancer cells have grown beyond the duct or lobule.

Most cases develop in women over the age of 50 but younger women are sometimes affected. Breast cancer can develop in men, though this is rare.

Staging means how big the cancer is and whether it has spread. Stage 1 is the earliest stage and stage 4 means the cancer has spread to another part of the body.

The cancerous cells are graded from low, which means a slow growth, to high, which is fast-growing. High-grade cancers are more likely to come back after they have first been treated.

What causes breast cancer?

A cancerous tumour starts from one abnormal cell. The exact reason why a cell becomes cancerous is unclear. It is thought that something damages or alters certain genes in the cell. This makes the cell abnormal and multiply.

There are some risk factors that can increase the chance of developing breast cancer, such as genetics.

What are the symptoms of breast cancer?

The usual first symptom is a painless lump in the breast, although most breast lumps are not cancerous and are fluid filled cysts, which are benign.

The first place that breast cancer usually spreads to is the lymph nodes in the armpit. If this occurs you will develop a swelling or lump in an armpit.

China’s military claims to have new laser weapon that fires ‘indefinitely’ without losing power or overheating

Researchers at the National University of Defense Technology in China claim to have overcome the biggest challenge in making laser weapons – overheating.

High-energy laser systems are used to disable unmanned aerial vehicles, such as war drones, but weapons fill with excessive heat during each use, forcing operators to shut the technology down to cool.

But the Chines scientists reportedly developed a cooling system that blows gas through the weapon to push out heat and optimize the flow of the laser for precision shooting.

While laser weapons were once thought to be confined to sci-fi movies, governments worldwide have been working on perfecting technology for decades.

The US has long been working to develop what the Chinese scientists claimed to achieve, which would allow them to put lasers on drones and missiles.

‘This is a huge breakthrough in improving the performance of high-energy laser systems,’ the team, led by laser weapon scientist Yuan Shengfu, told South China Morning Post.

‘High-quality beams can be produced not only in the first second but also maintained indefinitely.’

Lasers work by stimulating emissions, according to Beijing Times.

This involves excited atoms or molecules in a crystal or gas gain medium to a higher energy state.

When the atoms or molecules fall back to the ground, they release photos that are magnified through optical feedback, which results in a high-power laser beam.

The weapon’s mirrors and lenses keep the beam on a targeted path through the air, eventually heating the gas, disrupting the flow, and making the beam scattered.

Yuan’s team fixed these issues by developing the internal beam path conditioner, which uses gas to eliminate waste heat and maintain a pristine gaseous environment within the weapon.

The US military has long been working to fit lasers on drones and missiles but has yet to overcome the cooling problem China claimed to fix. The US Navy (pictured) can only use massive systems on top of large ships

The new cooling system features several parts, including a gas flow control system, air source, heat exchanger and injection and suction system.

The air source first pumps dry air through the laser system, and the heat exchanger cools the components to the desired temperature.

In addition to removing excess heat, the gas flow reduces turbulence and vibration within the laser for more precision.

And it is also designed to keep the focus mirrors of the weapon clean.

‘Since the invention of the first ruby laser in 1960, people have been enthusiastic about transitioning from kinetic energy to laser energy for the rapid projection of energy at the speed of light, dreaming of laser beams to become ‘death rays’ that can instantly kill targets,’ Yuan and his colleagues said.

‘Unfortunately, 60 years have passed, and while various types of lasers have been developed, the application of high-energy laser systems has not been successful.’

The US military has been the leader when it comes to breakthroughs in laser weapons, with some notable examples of high-energy lasers, including the Navy Advanced Chemical Laser (NACL), Middle Infrared Advanced Chemical Laser (MIRACL), Tactical High Energy Laser (THEL).

However, the massive and heavy weapons make them only useful for large military vehicles like boats and tanks.

This limits their range and mobility, but Chinese research could change how the nation conducts war – leaving the US behind.

Disney Plus reveals premium and budget streaming prices after losing 11.7m customers in three months

Disney has revamped the pricing of its video streaming service after the company shed 11.7m customers in three months.

The media giant said that, while standard subscriptions will remain £7.99 a month for viewers in the UK, there will now be a more expensive premium version, priced at £10.99 a month.

The premium version will offer higher image quality and the ability for four different people to watch at once.

A budget offering, costing £4.99 for Disney Plus, will require users to watch adverts alongside their favourite films.

Walt Disney chief executive Bob Iger said the company continues to face a ‘challenging environment’ but was focused on trimming costs.

He also vowed to crack down on password sharing – following in the footsteps of its rival Netflix.

For the three months to July, group revenue increased 4 per cent to £17.5billion, just short of Wall Street estimates of £17.6billion.

But it was lifted by the recovery of its theme parks, especially parks outside of the US.

MARKET REPORT: FTSE ends its two-day losing streak as oil stocks rally on the back of higher Brent Crude prices

The London stock market ended its two-day losing streak as heavyweight oil stocks rallied on the back of higher Brent Crude prices.

On a steady day of gains, the FTSE 100 rose 0.8 per cent, or 59.88 points, to 7587.30 while the FTSE 250 was up 0.51 per cent, or 95.66 points, to 18937.20.

It came as the price of Brent Crude added almost 2.5 per cent to reach more than $87 a barrel, its highest level since April.

That helped BP rise 2.6 per cent, or 12.65p, to 492.65p while Shell added 2.4 per cent, or 56.5p, to 2428.5p.

The oil market has remained tight due to production cuts led by Opec and its allies alongside concerns over Russian shipments.

Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky yesterday vowed to fight back if Russia blocked its ports, sparking fears that supply in the Black Sea could be disrupted.

Michael Hewson, chief market analyst at CMC Markets, said: ‘With US inventory levels seeing large declines in recent weeks, the outlook for prices appears to be tilted more to the upside, unless fresh supply comes to market.’

Hill & Smith, the safety barrier maker, delivered a record set of half-year results following strong trading across its US businesses.

Revenue of £420.8million in six months to the end of June were 20 per cent higher than the year before while profit surged 43 per cent to £62.5million.

It said its US businesses now made up 73 per cent of group profit, which is now likely to beat market expectations of £111.8million for 2023.

The shares rose 7 per cent, or 110p, to 1680p. But Hiscox headed in the other direction after the insurer sounded a note of caution regarding growth in its retail division.

Stock Watch -RM

RM, which provides technology and resources to the education sector, fell 20.2 per cent, or 14.2p, to 56p after it said profit will be lower than hoped.

Consortium, its UK classroom supplies business, was hit by delays in launching an ecommerce platform and smaller school budgets, affecting results, as revenues of £87.6million in the six months to the end of May were down 11 per cent  against the same period a year ago.

It made a loss of £4.5million. Profit for the year should be ‘on or around break-even’.

The unit, which is made up of businesses in the UK, Europe, USA and Asia, reported a 5.5 per cent increase in insurance contract written premiums to £996million in the six months to the end of June.

But overall retail growth was hindered amid increased competition. Its insurance revenues of £1.5billion were 3 per cent higher than the same period last year while profits rose from £19.9million to £207.8million. Shares sank 6 per cent, or 67p, to 1046p.

Intercontinental Hotels Group rose 2.5 per cent, or 144p, to 5934p after target price upgrades from Morgan Stanley and JP Morgan, a day after the Holiday Inn and Crowne Plaza owner’s profits surged as travel demand rebounded.

The feel-good factor at IWG accelerated as investors made a dash towards the office space provider’s stock on the back of its positive sets.

Yesterday it said revenue rose to £1.5billion in the first six months of this year, up 15 per cent on the £1.3billion it recorded in the same period of last year. Shares soared 9.8 per cent, or 14.8p, to 166.3p.

TP ICAP, the world’s largest interdealer broker, cashed in on higher oil and gas prices.

Profits of £91million in the first six months of this year were more than a quarter above the same period a year earlier while revenue rose 5 per cent to £1.13billion.

It also launched a share buyback worth up to £30million, alongside freeing up £100million of cash to pay down debt six months ahead of schedule.

The shares climbed by 7 per cent, or 10.8p, to 165.3p.

Office space landlord CLS Holdings warned the property market will remain challenging until interest rates have peaked.

The bleak outlook came as the group swung to a loss of £106.4million in the first six months of 2023, having made a £21.3million profit the year before.

And the value of its portfolio at the end of June was 5.5 per cent lower than the same period last year.

CLS failed to make any acquisitions during the first half because of the tough market conditions and said it did not expect to for at least the rest of 2023. Shares slumped 8.5 per cent or 12.2p, to 131.2p.

From ‘Ozempic body’ to ‘Ozempic face,’ the miracle weight-loss drug has come with some odd side effects.

But now as well as finding that old clothes don’t fit patients are also reporting another impact of the medication, that their rings no longer fit.

Those who have suffered the side effect — including a 40-year-old teacher in Texas — are having to spend upwards of $100 to resize the jewelry and are being left fearing that their prized possessions could fall off.

One user on TikTok, who goes by the username genesistwilightnoir, posted a video detailing how weight loss shrunk her fingers.

‘My engagement ring has not fit for two years now because I gained a lot of weight. I just lost 41 pounds and have a lot more to go,’ the Oklahoma City user said.

She showed herself putting the ring on her finger and said that it didn’t used to go past her knuckle.

‘Now I’m wearing it.’

The ring now even appears as if it could be loose, posing the potential risk of it falling off.

Ozempic is a brand name for the medicine semaglutide, which suppresses appetite and triggers weight loss. It comes after a scientist who helped develop the drug said it made life ‘miserably boring’ because it took away pleasure from food.

Women on Ozempic have claimed that the drug caused their fingers to slim down, which results in their engagement and wedding rings falling off

Ozempic was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for type 2 diabetes in 2017. It is yet to be approved for weight loss.

The drug binds to the GLP-1 receptor, a protein that triggers hormones in the brain that keep the stomach full and tell the body to stop eating and avoid cravings.

In 2022, more than five million prescriptions for Ozempic, Mounjaro, Rybelsus (for another Novo drug that uses semaglutide), or Wegovy were written for weight management.

This is compared with just over 230,000 in 2019 — an increase of more than 2,000 percent over three years.

Already in 2023, doctors have doled out more than 832,700 prescriptions for Ozempic’s sister drug Wegovy.

Jessica, 40, a part-time preschool teacher in Houston, is one of those who says she has suffered from Ozempic finger.

She lost 17 pounds within her first six weeks on the drug, she said.

But after the dramatic down-size she could not get her ring to stay on her finger.

‘I never realized weight loss also happened in your hands, but my ring suddenly didn’t fit,’ Jessica told the New York Post

‘I noticed it was flipping and it almost fell off. I was worried I would lose it.’

Getting a ring resized can be costly. Depending on the type of ring and how much your fingers have shrunk, it can be anywhere from $20 up to $150.

In Jessica’s case, it was $75.

Additionally, a DailyMail.com employee who has also used Ozempic said that she has had to shift rings on her fingers due to the weight loss.

‘I also have to stack some rings behind others so that they don’t fall off now,’ she said.

Melanie Fitzpatrick, co-founder of LeMel, the jeweler who resized Jessica’s ring, said that women are coming in droves to size down their jewelry due to weight loss.

Jewelers in areas of the country have seen an up to 150 percent increase in the number of people coming to get their rings resized compared to last year.

‘Usually the summer is a very quiet time for jewelers, but this year we are seeing a huge influx of jewelry repairs due to clients losing weight,’ she told New York Post.

‘Customers are coming in left and right, getting their rings sized down and bracelets shortened.’

‘Weight loss doesn’t just happen in your stomach or butt — it’s your full body.’

Jessica recently refilled her Ozempic prescription and dropped right more pounds. This caused her to lose another half a ring size.

‘I luckily haven’t had any side effects from Ozempic,’ she said. ‘If altering my jewelry is my only side effect, that’s fine by me!’

Viral video shows Wally Lewis losing his mind as Maroons seal their miracle Origin win – with the Queensland legend celebrating so hard he slammed his head into the ceiling

  • Wally Lewis was clearly elated at Maroons’ Origin win
  • Footage showed the ‘King’ literally hitting the roof
  • Regarded as Queensland’s best ever player in the arena

Maroons legend Wally Lewis owned the State of Origin arena in his playing days – and it seems his level of excitement for big moments hasn’t changed now that he’s a commentator instead of the team’s biggest star.

The ‘King’ was working for Channel 9 on Wednesday night, and footage has emerged of Queensland‘s favourite son getting very animated at Adelaide Oval.

So much so Lewis slammed his head into a wall as celebrations went into overdrive.

A late try to Cameron Munster sealed an impressive 26-18 win for Billy Slater’s men – and Lewis was on cloud nine.

Speaking to TV colleague Alison Ariotti, Lewis hailed the never-say-die attitude displayed by the stars who have followed in his footsteps.

‘I was excited, Queensland had just pulled off a stunning comeback to snatch the result,’ he said.

‘I was feeling pretty good about it … and didn’t realise a camera was on me.

‘I hit my head on the side of the roof at one stage…. and I was the only one celebrating, the other commentators were cheering on the Blues.’

Lewis added the playing group ‘knew they had achieved something special’ after the Blues took an 18-16 lead with just 12 minutes left.

And when prop Tom Flegler was sin-binned moments later, a win for the Maroons looked near impossible.

But as they have done to NSW fans for many years, Queensland broke their hearts to take the ascendency ahead of game two at Suncorp Stadium on June 21.

Under pressure Blues coach Brad Fittler will be tempted to make a number of team changes, with Jarome Luai, Tom Trbojevic and Hudson Young likely casualties.

If Queensland win on home soil, Fittler will have likely coached his final game for NSW.

Phil Neville can breathe a sigh of relief after his Inter Miami team snapped a six-game MLS losing streak with a 2-1 win over Columbus Crew.

Leonardo Campana is the man who Neville can thank for a vital three points – the striker scored twice in the first half to lead his team to victory.

He opened the scoring in the seventh minute but Cucho Hernandez eqaulized for Columbus only three minutes later.

But Campana hit the decisive goal four minutes before halftime as Miami held on for a win that eases the pressure on coach Neville.

‘I have no doubt that the tide has turned for us, in terms of we now have a group that is fighting and showing the spirit that they showed last season,’ Neville said after the game.

Miami’s last MLS victory was on March 4 against Philadelphia Union.

The Crew, meanwhile, lost for the first time at home this season after three wins and a tie. They also had a 10-game home unbeaten streak dating to the end of last season.

Miami made quick work of two dubious marks with the opening goal. Inter, by scoring for the first time in four games, avoided any chance of setting an MLS record with four straight 1-0 losses as well as not tying Montreal’s league record of not scoring in the first five road matches in a season.

Campana was in his third match back from an injury that cost him the first six matches.

His first goal of the season came off a flicked header by rookie Benjamin Cremaschi in his first MLS start. Campana took the pass in stride to score on Patrick Schulte from the right side of the box.

The Crew responded shortly after with Lucas Zelarayan finding an unmarked Hernandez, who took two touches then ripped a shot from the left corner of the box to the far corner for his first goal of the season.

Campana made it 2-1with a header at the right post from a corner kick by Jean Mota.

The Crew suffered another blow to its backline when Australian World Cup defender Milos Degenek left in the 13th minute with a leg injury. Defender Will Sands sustained a season-ending knee injury during the previous game against Charlotte FC.

Degenek’s replacement, Philip Quinton, was beaten to the ball by Campana on his second goal.
