Jose Mourinho has come to the end of a long, difficult and intense season in which he managed to defy the odds with his Roma squad.

The Portuguese coach reached a Europa League final with only 14 outfield players at his disposal and proved his ability to work with youth even in the most difficult of circumstances.

His post-match comments, spoken after their Europa League final defeat to Sevilla, should serve as a wake-up call for the club.

To stay in Rome, a city where he lives like an emperor, he wants to have a competitive team with at least six or seven more players to help improve the quality of the starting line-up.

But, the ‘Special One’ asks the club for something that he will most likely never get. And that is, an immediately competitive team to win the Scudetto.

However the Friedkin family, Roma’s owners, will not be able to satisfy the Portuguese coach’s needs and will result in Mourinho leaving before the expiry of his contract.

The coach’s tactical nous and adaptability helped Roma pick up as many points as possible for an average quality Serie A but, along the way, his relationships with the league’s referees grew fractured.

Mourinho is a controversial man and, in his second spell in Italy, has earned more red cards than trophies. As he has gotten older, his anger has become even more difficult to manage and has caused him to make serious communication errors.

However, at the end of the game he called everyone next to him, looked all his men in his eyes and gave them a motivational speech as a coach who knows he will leave his crew shortly.

MOU WILL NOT GET WHAT HE WANTS FROM ROMA

What does he want? A team immediately ready to win the Scudetto. This is Josè Mourinho’s request in order to see him stay at Roma for another 12 months.

This time, however, the chances of being satisfied are non-existent despite the club having made a lot of efforts on the market in the salary sector.

With the likes of Paulo Dybala, Nemanja Matic, Chris Smalling and Georginio Wijnaldum are all paid very well – despite the club spending only a few million on their transfers.

Mourinho also had the merit of promoting youngsters Edoardo Bove and Nicola Zalewski to the first-team but it’ll take time for them to be Roma’s star players.

To try to win the Scudetto, over £150million would need to be invested – which the club, like all Serie A teams, cannot afford.

In his Europa League final post-match press conference, Mourinho defended the team and it’s work, asking for greater involvement from the club.

On the pitch, the ‘Special One’ almost had tears in his eyes. The tension of the match against Sevilla had worn him out and it was clear the emotions ran high.

He asked a UEFA delegate to hand him his runners-up medal, squeezed it in his fist and gave it to a boy sat in the stands.

This had a clear meaning. Mourinho no longer wants to be second and, instead, wants to win again. This is his DNA and it’s something that does not align with Roma.

MOU FUTURE

In his press conference, the coach’s analysis between the present and the future was very clear: ‘I’m tired of doing everything myself, always putting my face into it’.

These are the kind of words that will make it impossible to mend his diplomatic relationship with the club and, in turn, creates an incurable rift.

Right now, the chances of seeing Jose Mourinho sitting on the Roma bench next season are close to zero per cent.

His experiences in Rome could strongly affect the next project for the Portuguese coach, who wants to return to the top after two years with an average club.

The Premier League has a particular fascination for Jose Mourinho. Coaching an English club again is his priority but the temptations coming from PSG also represent a unique opportunity to end his career in the best possible way.

According to ‘Corriere dello Sport’, PSG are considering the Roma coach as a replacement for Christophe Galtier.

It’s a move that would see Mourinho return to the epicentre of football and place him within one of the two richest clubs in modern football.

The ‘Special One’, in this moment, will be sad and will have to act as a father to the players who he’s coached over the last two years.

The tears of Paulo Dybala showed that perhaps Mourinho’s short but sweet stint at Roma was coming to an end and the Argentine will have to prepare for a new coach.

The few top players in the team had chosen Roma solely for Mourinho and, now, the risk that his departure could create an earthquake in the locker room.

Furious Jose Mourinho waits to tell Anthony Taylor he’s a ‘f***ing disgrace’ as he’s leaving the stadium after labelling the English ref’s Europa League final display ‘bulls***’ and claiming he ‘seemed Spanish’ in Roma’s defeat by Sevilla

Jose Mourinho has hit out at English referee Anthony Taylor for ‘seeming Spanish’ after his Roma side were beaten on penalties by Sevilla in the Europa League final in Budapest.

The Spanish side clinched a record extending seventh Europa League title after winning 4-1 in the shoot-out, following a 1-1 draw after extra time.

Taylor was forced to show multiple yellow cards during the match, while both benches were regularly seen protesting decisions in a bad tempered final.

Mourinho, who was booked in the closing minutes of extra time, hit out at Taylor’s performance in the final.

‘I want to stay at Roma,’ Mourinho said according to Sky Sport Italia. ‘But my players deserve more and I also deserve more.

‘I’m a little tired of being a coach, a man of communication, the face of the club that says we were robbed after every game. I’m tired of acting on every front.

‘Next year we won’t be playing the Champions League and that’s a good thing because we’re not made for it.

‘And let’s hope that Taylor, only officiates games in the Champions League and does the same bull**** there that he did tonight, and not in the Europa League.’

Mourinho added to the comments by claiming his former Tottenham player Erik Lamela should have been sent off for Sevilla in the closing stages of the match.

Lamela avoided a second yellow card for a foul in stoppage time at the end of extra time.

‘It was an intense, vibrant game with a referee who seemed Spanish,’ Mourinho said.

‘It was yellow, yellow, yellow all the time.

‘The injustice is shown by the fact Lamela should’ve had a second yellow, he didn’t, and he converted a penalty in the shoot-out.’

Seven Roma players were booked during the final, a record in the Europa League showpiece, with six members of the Sevilla side also shown yellow cards.

Taylor had also shown members of the Roma bench yellow cards during the match, including Mourinho.

The 60-year-old has been sent off three times in the Serie A season, while he will also miss Roma’s final match of the campaign due to receiving five bookings in the league.

Mourinho said he was yet to make a decision on his future at Roma, amid suggestions he could leave following his second season at the club.

‘I am going on vacation on Monday. If we have time to talk about it before Monday, we will,’ Mourinho said.

‘If not, I will go on vacation and then we’ll see. I have to fight for these lads and therefore not say objectively that I will remain.

‘I am a serious man. I told the owners a few months ago that if I had some contact with other clubs, they would be the first to know. I would always be honest and direct.

‘I spoke to the club in December when I had that approach from the Portuguese national team.

‘I have not had any contact with anyone else since then. I have a year left on my contract and this is the situation.’

  • Jose Mourinho is reportedly in ‘advanced negotiations’ to take over at PSG
  • The Portuguese manager could replace Christophe Galtier in Paris ‘this summer’
  • Reports say he ‘is interested’ despite his contract at Roma lasting until 2024

Jose Mourinho is reportedly in ‘advanced talks’ to become the next Paris Saint-Germain manager.

The Portuguese coach is currently plying his trade at Roma, but there is some uncertainty over his future at the club with negotiations over his existing deal, which is set to expire in 2024, yet to be confirmed.

But according to RMC Sport, PSG director ‘Luis Campos has spoken with the two-time Champions League winner’s agent about a possible arrival this summer.’

The Spanish outlet are also stating that ‘negotiations are advanced’ between Campos and Mourinho’s agent Jorge Mendes’, while claiming that the ‘Roma coach is also interested in PSG.’

Having joined Roma in 2021, Mourinho lead the club to a European trophy last season after they clinched the Europa Conference League title.

Roma currently sit seventh in the league standings, with Mourinho’s side having won 17 and lost ten of their 34 matches this season, having also failed to register a win in their last four outings.

Some disagreements over transfers at the club have also started to materialise with Mourinho demanding the Serie A club bring in three new players as replacements for Tammy Abraham, should the forward leave this summer

Mail Sport also understands Mourinho would also be open to a sensational return to Chelsea, amid frustrations over a lack of financial backing at Roma.

Meanwhile, RMC Sport say that PSG are ‘looking for a new coach to take over from Christophe Galtier’ and have also been in contact with representatives of Thiago Motta and Julian Nagelsmann.

Galtier recently ‘denied’ any wrong doing after he was alleged to have made a racist comments about several of his players

On the pitch, Paris have struggled to achieve expected targets, crashing out of the Champions League, despite reigning supreme at the top of the Ligue 1 table.

They were beaten 3-0 on aggregate by Bayern Munich in the last-16 of the tournament, in what was a disappointing and underwhelming end to their European cup run this season.

After stuttering several times this season, the club were crowned French champions, albeit in muted conditions, after they drew 1-1 against second placed side Lens back in April.

Concerns are also mounting over the morale of some of their key players, with Mail Sport reporting in February that senior squad members are unhappy with how the club’s transfer business.

Things have been bubbling away at the club for some time, with reports last October suggesting Kylian Mbappe was ‘at the centre of a PSG squad split’, while more recently the World Cup winner took aim at the club on Instagram for using his image without his consent

Meanwhile the club are set for a big rebuild, with concerns now mounting over Lionel Messi’s future at the club, with the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner being linked with a move to Saudi Arabia.

The club suspended him last week after he took an un-authorised visit to the Middle East.

Meanwhile, there is some good news as Sergio Ramos recently admitted he ‘wanted to stay at PSG‘ despite being linked also with a move to Saudi Arabia

The arrival of a figure of Mourinho’s stature could help the club to keep some of their bigger stars, as well as attract more talents to the Parc des Princes.

Having spent time throughout some of Europe’s top divisions, notably managing Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Manchester United and Tottenham, the 60-year-old is yet to manage in France, but certainly possess the experience, having won two Champions League titles to help the Parisians secure a European trophy.
