Stunning portraits showcase the softer side of the Big Apple, with incredible images illustrating raw and remarkable moments from across New York.  

Photographer Phil Penman took to the city’s streets each day between 2019 and 2023 and captured a series of sensitive moments as the world stood still during the pandemic. 

His moving black-and-white pictures, published in his new book New York Street Diaries, give a glimpse at the calm and tranquil side of the city during lockdown. 

For more than three decades, Penman, who was born in Dorset, has been working as a professional photographer, boasting an extensive catalog, including his spellbinding images of Michael Jackson, Madonna, Jennifer Lopez or Bill Gates. 

Penman says he quickly grasped how important it was to document what was happening inside one of the world’s greatest cities at such a sensitive time. 

When tragedy struck New York on 11 September 2001, Penman was there with his camera documenting history as the terrifying scenes unraveled before his eyes.  

‘The Covid 19 pandemic was no different,’ Penman told DailyMail.com. ‘I knew that we were going through a life changing event. 

‘For me, my life as it was, started and ended on September 11th. I feel for a lot of us, it was the same during COVID 19. 

‘We were going through something the world had not seen for a long time. Hopefully something we will never have to bear witness to again.’ 

Each day he would head out early in the morning until late at night trying to take as many pictures as he could.

He says the pandemic taught him ‘just how much we all need each other’.

‘I would go out capturing the streets as I saw them. Gone was the hustle and bustle of the streets. Instead, we would see seagulls on 8th Avenue, or hear birds chirping, and the sounds of ambulance sirens in the background. Another loved one that had been taken away from us by the horrific Covid 19 virus.

‘Out of the shadows had come the homeless population. These were the people I would chat with day to day. No longer were they asking for money, but instead a mask or some food. Long had they relied on the food left out the back of the restaurants. This sadly no longer existed due to the restaurants being closed.

‘I remember walking one day down Broadway. I saw someone’s home being thrown into the back of a sanitation truck. Next to the truck stood the owner, a man wearing a jacket, that said “F**k Everything”.

‘I went up to this man and asked if I could photograph the jacket. He replied “Where are you from?” I said “England”. 

‘It turned out that we had grown up about 10 miles away from each other in the county of Dorset. Now we found each other in the middle of a pandemic lockdown chatting on the streets of New York.

‘It’s been rewarding to receive all the great message from people all around the world who have bought the book and how it means so much to them that this time period was captured.’

She is living La Vida Lopez these days in Italy.

Jennifer Lopez had a little fun with her summer look while on the island of Capri on Friday.

The Mother actress passed off a strappy black bikini top with a bronze ring in the center as a fashion statement. Over the top was a beige cardigan.

The mother of teenaged twins Max and Emme added wide-legged off-white slacks with embroidered flowers on the hem for a breezy summer look. 

And she also had on a chic brown hat over a head scarf with oversized sunglasses, a woven shoulder bag and platform heels.

The Dinero singer was with her longtime talent manager Benny Medina as well as her photographer friend Ana Carballosa. But there was still no sign of JLo’s husband Ben Affleck.

The Bronx babe was wearing both her wedding rings from Ben whom she wed a year ago.

The singer was also with a pal who wore a very colorful long summer dress with several necklaces. At one point, Lopez reached out and touched her arm.

The team was shopping in Capri’s high end district.

One of her pals carried a paper shopping bag that read Afora on the front. They were also seen passing shoe shops, a swimwear boutique and jewelry stores.

This comes after she gave her social media followers an eyeful on Thursday.

The siren was seen in a stringy white bikini and promoted her beverage line Delola.

The 54-year-old bombshell lounged on a plush chair, showing off her stellar figure in the revealing swimsuit.

The Bronx native heavily accessorized with gold jewelry including small hoop earrings and a long necklace that fell down her toned torso.

Additionally, the pop star donned a wide-brimmed brown hat adorned with a gold-toned scarf wrapped around it. She had earlier worn a patterned headscarf but later pulled the fedora on top. 

She also wore lightly tinted hexagonal sunglasses. 

She looked typically stunning in a full face of glowy makeup that gave her a bronze finish. 

Lopez wrote in the caption of her post, ‘Back in my element.’

She also moved to the app’s Stories feature to share a throwback advert featuring her in a yellow skort and tied up button-up white shirt.

Her shoulder-length honey-blonde hair was styled half-up/half-down with a light flip at the ends.

JLo first announced she was launching the new business venture in April, gushing about the endeavor online.

She wrote with the Instagram post at the time, ‘The secret is out!!! I’m proud to share with you @DELOLA … my new collection of unique, mixology-level ready to enjoy spritzes. 

‘More is #OnTheJLo. Let’s live the #DelolaLife together @gregswalesart.’

The promotional clip showed her enjoying a celebration on the coast of Italy at an outdoor bar with pals.

Lola is a longtime nickname of Jennifer’s that reflects her ‘more playful, carefree side,’ a press release revealed. 

In a press release shared it was announced Lopez created The House Of Delola LLC.

It’s a company she founded ‘to launch unique, mixology-level ready-to-enjoy cocktails designed for elegant, effortless entertaining as part of a thoughtful lifestyle.’

Lopez stated, ‘I love entertaining and to relax and unwind with friends, but never found a drink that was right for me.

‘I was in search of something that I could enjoy that fit the thoughtful way that I live my life. When I didn’t find it, I decided to create Delola.’

Lopez added that her goals were ‘better ingredients, better taste, fewer calories than traditional cocktails,’ in just one simple pour.

Jennifer Lopez uploaded a raunchy shirtless photo of her husband, Ben Affleck, in celebration of Father’s Day on Sunday in a new Instagram photo series. 

The Hustlers actress, 53, who recently shared a sweet kiss with the Oscar winner, 50, while attending the star-studded Flash premiere, shared a snap of the actor showing off his ripped abs in a mirror selfie. 

In the caption of the post, the songstress penned, ‘Daddy Appreciation Post Happy Father’s Day Papa. And Happy Father’s Day to all the amazing Papas out there!! We love you and appreciate you more than you will ever know.’ 

Upon tying the knot last year in July 2022, he became stepfather to her twins Max and Emme, 15, whom she welcomed with ex-husband, Marc Anthony. 

Ben is also father to daughters Violet, 17, and Seraphina, 14, as well as son, Samuel, 11, whom he shares with ex-wife, Jennifer Garner. 

Jennifer also uploaded a short reel that showed Ben sitting on a chair inside what appeared to be an office. He could be seen sitting back and looking over his shoulder to flash a cheerful smile towards the camera. 

The video then continued as a montage of sweet moments that they have shared thus far, including a throwback clip of them when they had dated in the early 2000s. 

Affleck could be seen sporting a white tank top and shades as he gently kissed Lopez, who donned an all-white ensemble and carried an adorable puppy in her arms. 

The two stars had initially started dating in 2002 and became engaged later that same year in November, but split later in 2004. The pair notably were romantically linked years later in April 2021, and officially tied the knot the following summer. 

Other snippets showed the lovebirds riding inside of a vehicle as they got fresh air with the sun roof open, and the two also having an affectionate moment together on a set.

The Grammy-nominated singer lastly shared two selfies as her husband rested his head on her shoulder, causing the actress to flash a happy smile towards the camera. 

Affleck’s ex-wife, Jennifer Garner, also took to her Instagram on Sunday and gave a special shout out to the Good Will Hunting star. 

The mother of three, who was recently spotted sharing a loving kiss with her current boyfriend John Miller, uploaded a photo as she posed next to her mother and father inside of a church. 

The 13 Going On 30 actress wrote, ‘Happy Father’s Day to the best to ever do the job. (Jeans in church— I made my connecting flight, but my luggage didn’t),’ she humorously explained. ‘We love you, Dad.’ 

The star then took time to pay tribute to Affleck, whom she shares three children with. ‘PS Shout out to BGA,’ she penned, referencing to his full name: Benjamin Géza Affleck. 

The beauty then concluded with, ‘no one loves their kids like you love ours, happy Father’s Day, Ben!’ 

The former couple had tied the knot back in 2005, with their divorce being finalized in 2018 after 13 years of marriage.

Jennifer Lopez has seen in character for the first time on the set of Ben Affleck‘s film Unstoppable in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

The actress, 53, had a large fake tattoo of Jesus Christ’s crucifixion on her upper right arm — reminiscent to the very real cross tattoo on husband Ben’s right arm.

Like Ben’s, Jennifer’s is surrounded by bright red flowers while the rest is drawn out in black ink.

Unstoppable is Ben and collaborator Matt Damon‘s second feature with Artists Equity, the independent film production company they launched last year.

Its debut film was the sports drama Air, which tells the story of Nike’s iconic partnership with NBA star Michael Jordan.

It premiered in April and has since been made available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.

Ben and Matt were in final talks to start production on Unstoppable in March, according to Deadline.

It follows the three-time All-American wrestler Anthony Robles, who, despite being born with one leg, went on to win a national championship at Arizona State.

William Goldberg – known for his editing work on Ben’s films Argo (2012) and Air (2023) – is helming the project. 

Jennifer’s role is currently unknown and a release date has yet to be revealed. 

For the shoot, Jennifer was casually dressed in flared blue jeans and a sleeveless purple top as she prepared to step in front of the camera.

Instead of her typical honey-toned hair, the Hustlers star rocked a voluminous brunette wig styled in loose curls.

It was her massive tattoo that caught the eye as she tucked her hair behind her ear in one shot.

Jennifer’s husband Ben is no stranger to large tattoos as he’s gotten six on his body over the years.

Most recently, Jennifer unveiled that she and the Argo actor got matching tattoos to honor their ‘commitment’ to each other.

Ben has a pair of overlapping arrows under his armpit area with the letters J and B between them, while Lopez is inked on her left side with an infinity sign with an arrow on it that read the words ‘Jennifer’ and ‘Ben.’

Jennifer called the permanent tributes ‘sexy’ as she showed them off on Valentine’s Day.

But the Maid In Manhattan star isn’t a fan of all of her man’s tattoos — particularly the giant, colorful phoenix that takes up his entire back.

During a 2016 interview, she called the tattoo ‘awful’ and criticized it for being too colorful like many of his other tattoos.

‘I would tell him that! Like, what are you doing? It has too many colors. His tattoos always had too many colors,’ she said.

‘They shouldn’t be so colorful, you know what I mean? They should be cooler.’

Affleck initially claimed the back ink was fake for a film role but later admitted that he lied.

On Wednesday, Jennifer was surrounded by crew members, one of which had a clipboard in hand as they spoke to their co-workers, as she worked on her husband’s latest project.

During a break between scenes, she was captured strolling around the set with script pages in hand.

She had her cellphone held up to her ear as not to disturb her perfectly styled wig.

Jennifer was joined by a male co-star in a blue suit as they performed a scene near a parked car.

There were also two child stars standing feet behind Jennifer.

Though it’s unclear if Ben will star opposite his new wife, the couple have worked with one another in the past.

They met on the set of the 2003 rom-com Gigli, which bombed at the box office.

Jennifer and Ben — referred to by the press as ‘Bennifer’ — got engaged that year but their relationship came to an end in January 2004.

So fans were delighted when the couple rekindled their romance in 2021 after 17 years apart.

They married last year at a wedding chapel in Las Vegas before holding a lavish ceremony at Ben’s Georgia estate in August.

But there’s been speculation that the pair’s relationship is on the rocks after some seemingly heated exchanges between them were caught by cameras.

Most recently, the pair appeared to be bickering at the premiere of Jennifer’s latest film, The Mother.

But a source refuted rumors by telling DailyMail.com that the couple’s relationship is still going strong.

‘The narrative that they’re continually fighting is false,’ the insider said. ‘They’re in an incredibly good place, very loving and supportive of each other.’ 

Earlier this month, the Marry Me actress gushed about how it ‘brings tears to my eyes’ seeing their families blend.

Ben shares three children — daughters Violet, 16, 14 and son Samuel, 11 — with ex-wife Jennifer Garner, who he was married to from 2005 to 2018. 

Meanwhile, Jennifer welcomed 15-year-old twins Emme and Max with her third ex-husband Marc Anthony. The former couple split in 2014 after a decade together.

‘He’s an amazing dad,’ she said of Ben while appearing on the morning talk show The View.

‘He is honestly the best dad I’ve ever seen. He’s so involved, he teaches me about how to interact with the kids sometimes.’

Jennifer called Ben the type of father anybody would ask for – a ‘present, loving dad who cares.’

‘He’s just so in tune, he’s such a brilliant guy anyway, like he’s so learned in so many things, and you can just tell when he’s had his kids, he read every book and everything you could possibly learn about children, and he applies it and is present and that’s all you can ask for, is a present, loving dad who cares and who shows up every single day, and that’s who he is.’
