Cristiano Ronaldo leaves the pitch in agony and close to tears as he’s carted off injured after scoring twice to win his first trophy with Al-Nassr

Cristiano Ronaldo celebrated his first trophy since joining Al-Nassr, despite leaving the match on a stretcher after suffering an injury blow.

Al-Nassr came from behind against Al-Hilal to win the Arab Club Champions Cup, thanks to two goals from the Portuguese superstar, but his night was almost overshadowed by a late injury that saw him exit the match.

With five minutes left of the game, Ronaldo went down clutching his left thigh and was unable to complete the rest of the final.

He left the game on a motorised stretcher, looking in some distress, giving the Saudi side some huge concerns over their talisman.

However, the 38-year-old was able to join in the team’s celebrations on winning the trophy, the first piece of silverware Ronaldo has tasted since his move to the middle east.

Al-Hilal took the early advantage in the tie, as Brazilan midfielder Michael opened the scoring five minutes after half time, before Ronaldo took over proceedings.

He first, equalised for Al-Nassr fifteen minutes from the end, before thinking he’d settled the contest with a late goal that was ruled out for offside.

Instead, the game went into extra time, but still Ronaldo had the last word.

Heading home the winner in the first half of the extended period to secure the trophy for his team.

The goals saw the Portuguese icon become the tournaments top scorer with six goals, as he secured his first trophy since joining the club in January.

Al-Nassr will now hope there is no long-term repercussions of the injury that forced Ronaldo out of the game before the end.

As Mohammad Hassan lay seriously injured, 1,300ft from the summit of K2, dozens of fellow climbers carefully edged towards him, risking their lives as they clung to the side of the narrow ledge.

And then they kept on going – clambering around the stricken 27-year-old as they left him to die while continuing their own personal bid for glory.

Now, after footage of the incident emerged, their decision to leave him has caused an outcry among the mountaineering community.

Hassan, a father-of-three high-altitude porter from Pakistan who worked for Lela Peak Expedition, died after an avalanche on July 27 pushed him over a ledge while scaling the 28,300ft K2 mountain.

The footage shows people physically climbing over Hassan as he lies helpless in the deep snow.

Instead of helping him, his fellow climbers went up the side of the mountain past him without offering any help

The video then pans over to show clouds several thousand feet below them, revealing just how high they were when the footage was taken.

The air is so thin at this elevation that all people seen in the video were wearing oxygen masks.

It appears that just one person ended up helping him, an unknown rescuer who managed to keep him conscious for a while before he died of his injuries. There was no rescue operation to help the young man.

A mountaineer’s code of ethics: What should Hassan’s fellow climbers have done to help him?

The International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation (UIAA) warns that all climbers practice their sport at their own risk and are responsible and accountable for their own safety.

Providing advice for mountaineers, the group – considered the international governing body of climbing and mountaineering – warns that ‘all participants in mountain sports should clearly understand the risks and hazards’.

Whilst the organisation does not explicitly state how or if the fellow climbers should have helped Hassan – especially considering they may have put themselves at risk – they are advised to be ‘ready to help others in the event of an emergency or accident and also be ready to face the consequences of a tragedy’.

Fellow climber Wilhelm Steindl, who also participated in the climb but had returned to the base camp earlier due to the dangerous conditions, told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf that he was sickened by the inaction of the fellow climbers.

‘It was a very heated, competitive race to the top. What happened there is scandalous.

‘A living person is left behind so records can be set. It only took 3 or 4 people to save him. Had I seen it, I would have climbed up to help the poor man.’

Despite these strong claims, differing accounts of the tragedy have circulated, leading to uncertainty over exactly what took place all the way up K2.

Lakpa Sherpa, a mountaineer who was on the climb and took the video, told MailOnline that the footage doesn’t capture what actually happened:

‘Some of the climbers and sherpas tried to save his life although he passed away.

‘The climbers have all spent a lot of money to do this climb and there is the value of time too for the climb. Hundreds of climbers tried to save him but they cannot give up their mission.

‘The reality is they have tried to save the life and this is below the great serace bottle neck, where it’s impossible to cross without rope so it’s a very difficult situation.

‘Many climbers and sherpas told him to go back as he had very poor equipment and was not well equipped and also there was very bad weather during the summit window but he did not listen and then he fell down.

‘It was very difficult to bring the body down. They have to summit the mountain. There’s only a little chance for them.’

Bulgarian climber Silvia Azdreeva, who was on the trip when Hassan died, said in a Facebook post that climbing K2 is not for the faint-hearted: ‘On K2 there is no one to save you that fast, you’ll have to wait for days if something happens to you.

‘This mountain is not for everyone. K2 has a very heavy character.’

Shockingly, Wilhelm Steindl claimed that a party was held shortly after Mr. Hassan died in celebration of Kristin Harila, a Norwegian woman who set a new world record after she climbed the 14 of the world’s highest peaks in just over 3 months.

‘I didn’t go, I was disgusted. Someone had just died up there,’ the furious climber said.

He revealed in a GoFundMe set up for Mr. Hassan’s family that he leaves behind three children and a wife, as well as an elderly grandmother.

At time of publication, the page has already raised £63,000.

The newly-crowned world record holder Kristin Harila said of the tragedy: ‘My heart and thoughts and prayers go out to the family and loved ones of Hassan and I feel very sad about this whole situation.’

MailOnline has contacted Lela Peak Expedition for comment.

K2 is considered to be the world’s most dangerous mountain as it has a fatality rate of around 19 per cent compared to just 6.5 per cent on Everest, according to estimates.

K2 – pictured from overlooking town Askole in the Gilgit–Baltistan region of Pakistan – gained notoriety as the ‘Savage Mountain’ after American mountaineer George Bell descended from the peak in 1953

For every 20 people who summit Everest, only one summits K2 and there are inherently more risks.

Routes on K2 are not as defined or well laid out with the climb being much more technical with a combination of rock, ice and alpine climbing – and avalanches are also much more common.

The mountain gained notoriety as the ‘Savage Mountain’ after American mountaineer George Bell came down from the peak in 1953 where he nearly slipped to his death.

‘It’s a savage mountain that tries to kill you,’ he observed following his traitorous climb.

Nine Brits are injured in horrifying bus crash on way to Turkish airport

  • Nine of the 11 Brits on the bus sustained injuries and were treated at the scene

Nine British tourists were injured when a minibus driver crashed in Turkey while ferrying them to the airport earlier this week.

Shocking CCTV footage captured the moment the minibus jumped the stop and smashed full-tilt into an oncoming vehicle on the D-400 road in the Manavgat district of Antalya.

The car was battered some 150ft away from the crossroads by the sheer force of the impact, while the bus careened into the road median and flipped over.

Nine out of the 11 Brits sustained injuries and were treated at the scene by paramedics.

Firefighters were forced to cut the driver free of the wreckage as his car doors were so heavily damaged he was unable to drag himself out of the vehicle.

One young child travelling in the minibus was one of just two people unhurt, miraculously escaping injury despite the brutality of the crash and the subsequent rolling of the vehicle.

He was seen calmly watching an iPad while his parents received treatment from paramedics on the grass by the roadside in the aftermath of the incident.

MailOnline has contacted the FCDO for comment.

At least three people were killed and more than 75 others were injured on Thursday after a tornado struck the Texas city of Perryton.

Images revealed the devastation as parts of the town were left in rubble by the twister – while emergency crews searched for survivors amid the broken homes and debris.

‘It’s bad, it’s very bad. It’s non-stop crazy. It couldn’t have hit in a more vulnerable place,’ Mayor Kerry Symons said, adding that he would be unable to say how many people had died until Friday morning.

Perryton fire chief Paul Dutcher reported that at least three people were killed in the tornado, which hit at 5:10pm.

The Ochiltree General Hospital in Perryton, a town of 8,000 people, had yet to receive any dead.

But some people with life-threatening injuries were transferred to larger medical centers in Amarillo, Debbie Beck, the hospital’s chief financial officer, said.

Beck said that up to 100 people with injuries ranging from scratches to a collapsed lung were treated at the hospital in Perryton.

At least 30 trailer homes were damaged or destroyed in Perryton, and firefighters were still rescuing victims at 6 p.m.

Officials say the town may have been struck by three tornadoes.

Homes were torn apart and left in rubble, while vehicles were overturned and trees had snapped in half.

‘Jane &  I are praying for the people of Perryton tonight. I am in contact with Mayor Symons and this tragedy is being closely monitored by myself and my whole staff,’ U.S. Representative Ronny Jackson, a Republican from Texas, said on Twitter.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott said in a written statement that he was deploying the state’s emergency response teams to the area, including resources from an emergency medical task force, along with search and rescue teams.

Abbott said: ‘The State of Texas is swiftly deploying critical emergency response resources to provide all necessary support and assistance to protect Texans and help those impacted by tornadoes in Perryton.

‘I encourage all Texans to heed the guidance of state and local officials and to take all necessary precautions to protect yourselves and your loved ones.

‘We remain ready to quickly provide any additional resources needed over the course of this severe weather event.

‘I ask all Texans to join Cecilia and me in praying for our fellow Texans who have been impacted by this horrific storm. Stay safe, Texas.’

Rep. Four Price said: ‘Please keep the Perryton community in your prayers. Many structures are damaged.’

Lanzarote tourist tragedy as Irish mother is killed and her daughter seriously injured when off-road buggy plunges off rocks

  • The pair fell around 65ft after losing control of their vehicle during excursion

An Irish holidaymaker has been killed and her daughter seriously injured after they lost control of an off-road buggy and plunged into a pile of rocks.

The pair fell around 65 feet while driving the vehicle during a tourist excursion in Lanzarote.

The older woman, aged 61, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other victim, who was travelling on a South African passport, was rushed to Doctor Jose Molina Orosa Hospital in the Spanish island’s capital Arrecife with injuries including head wounds.

She was believed to be in intensive care today although the hospital has not yet made any official comment.

Firefighters, police, Civil Protection workers and paramedics were among the emergency responders who raced to the area on Monday afternoon.

A helicopter was also sent to the scene although fire crews were finally able to stretcher the survivor, who is understood to be aged in her mid-forties, to a waiting ambulance on foot.

The area where the tragedy occurred is between the town of Teseguite and the village of Guatiza, and boasts unique volcanic rock formations which attract visitors from all over the world.

The island’s Civil Guard police force has been placed in charge of an ongoing investigation into the incident.

One report said police were probing the possibility the buggy driver, thought to be the older of the two women, may have plunged into the abyss after losing control of her vehicle on a bend because she was going too fast.

But a spokesman for the Civil Guard in Lanzarote insisted: ‘It is too early at this stage to speculate on what could have caused the tragedy.

‘The investigation is still at a very early stage.’

A Civil Guard source added: ‘A 61-year-old Irish woman died in the tragedy and her daughter, who was travelling on a South African passport, was seriously injured and was taken to hospital.

‘They were travelling on the buggy as part of an organised excursion.’

The rude incident all of Canberra is talking about as female Parliament worker is injured as seven politicians issue grovelling apologies: ‘Disgusted by this behaviour’

  • Staff member in Parliament injured in ‘serious matter’
  • MPs barged past member of staff as they left chamber

A female parliamentary staffer has been injured in the House of Representatives as Coalition MPs scrambled to exit the room – prompting a warning for all politicians to prevent another ‘disgusting’ incident happening again.

Dan Tehan, Angus Taylor, Zoe McKenzie and Andrew Hastie were among seven MPs to apologise in the House of Representatives over the fracas on Wednesday morning.

The employee was pushed into the doorway and injured her arm as several MPs rushed to leave after Speaker Milton Dick ordered that the doors be locked for a division.

Mr Dick said: ‘I’m particularly disgusted by this behaviour and I will not tolerate it for staff.

‘For a staff member of this chamber to be treated in this way, when they are simply doing their job is disrespectful and a very serious matter.

‘I want to make it clear that I’m committed to ensuring that this building and this chamber are safe and respectful places of work.

‘No staff members should be hurt in the course of doing their work in service of this House.’

Queensland MP Llew O’Brien issued a particularly heartfelt apology on Wednesday morning.

He said: ‘I unreservedly apologise to the house and yourself for leaving after your direction yesterday. And I also apologise to the staff if they were involved in this.

‘Staff here in the chamber do an incredible job and one of them is not crowd control. And I apologise to them for that.’

Zoe McKenzie added that she ‘deeply regrets any impact caused to a staff member involved’ in her attempt to leave the room.

Andrew Hastie said he ‘apologises unreservedly’ to the staffer involved.

On Tuesday night, Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations Tony Burke urged Mr Dick to review the footage of the incident.

‘Mr Speaker, regardless of Practice and standing orders, we cannot be in a position, as a House, where people are using their physical size to push past the members of staff after you have said, ”Lock the doors”,’ he said.

After the Speaker gives orders that the door be locked, no member is permitted from entering or leaving the chamber.

All MPs have been warned they will receive a letter reviewing the guidelines and expectations of them in their roles representing the community.

‘No member’s time is worth more than a staff member’s safety,’ he said.

Shocking new video shared with MailOnline appears to capture the moment Royal Marine commandos clashed with police in Gibraltar in a brawl that saw seven arrested on Friday.

Royal Gibraltar Police were responding to a call near the Ocean Village Gym when they became involved in a brawl with elite soldiers from 43 Commando at around 4am.

Footage showed officers wrestling men in civilian clothing to the ground. One man in a T-Shirt and shorts was seen to back off with his hands up as police adopted fighting stances and grappled with others.

A second clip shows sirens lighting up the street as police detain suspects on the floor near a police car. Police were reported to have used batons and pepper spray to stop the soldiers in the clash that left seven officers and a member of the public injured.

Suspects were charged on Saturday with offences including assault on police, violent disorder and disorderly whilst intoxicated. They will appear in court on Tuesday.

The commandos are part of a 550-strong unit, based at HM Naval Base Clyde in Scotland, responsible for protecting Britain’s nuclear weapons.

The Royal Navy’s website says they are currently on deployment for ‘Maritime Security’ – boasting the group includes crack snipers and close combat specialists.

Royal Gibraltar Police said: ‘Seven men will be appearing before the Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday morning (May 2) following a large fight in Ocean Village.

‘During the incident, seven RGP officers and one member of the public were injured.

‘The Response Team officers were required to use captor spray, baton tactics and unarmed defence tactics.

‘The Royal Gibraltar Police officers were assisted by officers from the Gibraltar Defence Police. Early this morning, the men, who are all serving members of the military, were charged.’

Houghton was charged with two accounts of violent disorder, one of resisting and obstructing police, one of disorderly whilst intoxicated and one of assault on the police.

Dove was charged with two counts of violent disorder, one of resisting and obstructing police and one of assault on police.

Connell, Tait, Bull, Holborn and Baits were all charged with two counts of violent disorder and one of resisting and obstructing police.

A Ministry of Defence (MoD) media officer told The Olive Press that ‘seven service personnel from 43 Commando were arrested by Royal Gibraltar Police on 28 April 2023’.

The Navy’s website reads: ‘From snipers who can disable a moving speedboat from a pursuit helicopter, through to close combat and cold-weather warfare specialists, 43 Commando Fleet Protection Group Royal Marines are the elite warriors who protect the UK’s strategic nuclear deterrent.

‘The unit works closely with the MoD Police but also supports the Atomic Weapons Establishment, US Marine Corps and US Coast Guard.

‘Ready and able 24/7/365, 43 Commando delivers specialist capability in a uniquely complex urban, maritime, industrial environment.’

The MoD has been contacted for comment.
