The social services department involved in the case of tragic Amber Gibson has ‘blood on its hands’, according to relatives of the young girl murdered by her elder brother.

The accusation came as it was announced that an independent review of the circumstances of Amber’s death while under the care of South Lanarkshire Council will be completed after further interviews with witnesses in the criminal case.

Connor Gibson, 20, was yesterday convicted of attacking his sister Amber, 16, in woodland in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, in November 2021.

He removed her clothing, sexually assaulted her with the intention of raping her, inflicted blunt-force trauma to her head and body, and strangled her.

Even after her death, the sickening ordeal was not yet over as Stephen Corrigan, 45, the man who discovered the body in woodland violated her remains and was convicted of attempting to defeat the ends of justice by intimately touching and concealing the body, instead of contacting the emergency services.

Amber and her brother had spent much of their lives in care, but a source from their extended biological family today told MailOnline that social workers from South Lanarkshire Council blocked their maternal grandparents’ efforts to have the children stay with them.

‘The social work department has blood on its hands,’ claimed the family member who asked to remain anonymous.

‘Ambers’ grandparents, Mr and Mrs Adams, are lovely people and did their best for the children, but they needed more help from the authorities and didn’t get it.’

‘It put an enormous financial strain on the Adams, when they had the kids, but they were offered no help. The council seemed to prefer to spend hundreds and hundreds of pounds placing Amber and Connor with foster parents, rather than their own family.’

Mr and Mrs Adams refused to comment when approached by MailOnline.

Amber was aged just three, and her brother five, when they were removed from an abusive family household where they would witness their father Peter Gibson beating their mother Anne-Marie Adams black and blue, dragging her by the hair, putting his hands around her throat.

Peter Gibson was jailed for 10 years only a few months ago for a litany of violent sexual crimes.

Now his son Connor also awaits a life sentence for the brutal killing of his own sister. By the time she was murdered, blameless Amber had spent almost all her life in the care system and had already been a victim of rape.

Amber, said foster parents Craig and Carol Niven, was the ‘most giving, caring, loving supportive and admirable person’ who had ‘the most amazing outlook on life’.

The devastated couple said they believed the siblings had been ‘let down throughout their lives by the system’.

Just five months before her death, Amber had been raped by 20-year-old Jamie Starrs at his home in Bothwell and her statement proved crucial in bringing the rapist to justice.

Giving evidence at the trial of Connor Gibson, Mr Niven described the siblings as ‘not a good mix’ and said that he wouldn’t feel comfortable leaving them in each other’s company.

It was while they were together in November 2021 that Gibson pounced on his little sister, strangling and attacking her. He had also ripped off her clothes.

Her story began on New Year’s Day 2005 at Wishaw General Hospital in Lanarkshire where her brother and eventual killer had been born two years earlier.

Her parents, Peter Gibson and his much younger partner Ann Marie Adams, are believed to have met online and, by the time Amber arrived, a pattern of abuse was well-established. At their home in North Berwick Crescent, East Kilbride, Gibson inflicted appalling violence on the mother of his children – punching her in the face and kicking her in the body – between August 2001 and August 2007.

The children were taken out of their parental home and put into care and in 2008 the Nivens were approached to look after the pair in another Lanarkshire town. Amber and her brother moved into their Larkhall home but concerns about the older sibling’s behaviour soon arose.

For a time they attended separate schools. Amber went to Moore House Academy, around 25 miles away in West Lothian’s Bathgate, while her brother was a pupil at Kear Campus in Blantyre, Lanarkshire – a secondary school for those with social, emotional and behavioural needs.

Former school friends described him as a loner who was prone to sudden fits of rage.

‘He would talk about killing other pupils which, to be fair, I saw as an over-exaggeration, but looking back on it now maybe the stuff he said wasn’t exaggeration at all,’ one classmate said.

A former female pupil described him as a ‘disgusting human’ who ‘threatened to rip’ her baby from her while she was pregnant.

Ultimately, the foster care arrangement broke down and Amber moved into Hamilton-based Hillhouse children’s unit when she was 14. Her brother remained with the Nivens until his 18th birthday in 2020.

It was while in the care of the state that Amber was raped by 20-year-old Jamie Starrs, who attacked her in June 2021 after being released on bail for another sex attack.

At the time of her murder, her brother was a resident at Hamilton’s Blue Triangle project, a hostel for homeless youngsters in Lanarkshire, while she was living at the Hillhouse unit.

Angel McKean, 19, a friend of Amber’s there, said the siblings’ relationship was turbulent.

But she said when she last spoke to Amber, hours before she was killed, she had been looking forward to seeing her brother.

Care home manager Ian Currie, 55, said Connor Gibson called the Hillhouse unit to speak to his sister on the day she was killed.

A short time later, Amber left with him, despite Mr Currie’s attempts to discourage her from doing so. She was never seen alive again.

Four days later, Gibson wrote a tribute to his sister on social media: ‘Amber. You will fly high for the rest of time. We all miss you. Especially me. I love you ginger midget, GBNF [gone but not forgotten] xx.’ Hours before he was arrested for her murder, he shared another post in which he urged townsfolk to ‘leave a light on’ for Amber.

It was while Connor Gibson was awaiting trial for murder that his natural father, aged 62, was jailed for physical and sexual abuse.

The High Court in Glasgow heard how he had raped a woman in East Kilbride, after tying her up and blindfolding her. He also grabbed this victim by the neck restricting her breathing.

Peter Gibson was also convicted of indecently assaulted a young boy and punching and kicking him to his injury. Other convictions included lewd and libidinous behaviour towards another boy.

Mr and Mrs Niven were in court yesterday to hear the guilty verdict on their former foster son. In a statement, they said: ‘When they arrived at our home, Amber was three and Connor aged five.

‘Connor stated “We are safe” – they were until he took the safety away.’

They added: ‘Amber deserved to live a life of hope and opportunities.

‘As a family, we will never be able to get over how this was taken from her. We are relieved the people involved in what happened to her are now behind bars.’

South Lanarkshire Council described the case as ‘truly tragic’ and confirmed that in 2021 it established an independent review of the circumstances, which can now conclude since the court case has been closed.

Professor Soumen Sengupta, Director of Health and Social Care for South Lanarkshire, said: “This has been a truly tragic case, and our thoughts remain with all those who knew and loved Amber. There are established procedures in place for tragic events of this nature which are designed to ensure that events are fully understood and, if necessary, learned from.

‘In this case, after Amber’s death the Care Inspectorate and the Chair of the Child Protection Committee (CPC) were informed. The CPC acted to establish an independent review under an extremely experienced independent expert in the field. They have already carried out most of the work involved and will now be able to conclude the review, including interviewing people who were witnesses in the criminal case.

‘The results of the review will be delivered to the CPC once complete and then shared with the Public Protection Chief Officer Group. It is anticipated that the findings will be publicly reported in an appropriate format.’

South Lanarkshire Council declined to comment on the family’s claims but a source with knowledge of the case insisted there had never been an application from members of Amber’s family for custody of her or her brother.

Financier George Soros has handed control of his $25billion empire to his son, Alex, who is vowing to use the family’s money to advocate for more liberal causes.

The 37-year-old heir told the Wall Street Journal that he will broaden his father’s woke aims,  but embrace different causes like voting and abortion rights as well as gender equality.

‘I’m more political,’ Alex said, when comparing himself to his father. He has already visited the White House 14 times in just over a year and met with big-name Democrats.

But the Soros’s nonprofit, Open Society Foundation, already directs about $1.5billion a year to groups that back human rights around the world and build democracies, while also funding various universities.

And the family’s super PAC, the Democracy PAC, has backed the election campaigns of woke district attorneys and other law enforcement officials seeking to reduce incarceration rates and perceived racial bias in the justice system.

In December, the OSF board elected Alex as its chairman, replacing his 92-year-old father.

He now directs political activity as the president of Soros’ super PAC and is the only family member on the investment committee overseeing Soros Fund Management, the group that oversees money for the foundation and the family.

Alex plans to use abut $125million of its $25billion reserve for the super PAC, while the majority of the money will be used for the OSF. 

Speaking to the Wall Street Journal about his goals, Alex said he was concerned about the possibility of Donald Trump returning to the White House — suggesting the family will contribute greatly to Democrats in the 2024 presidential election.

‘As much as I would love to get money out of politics, as long as the other side is doing it, we will have to do it, too,’ he said.

But in contrast with many others on the left, Alex said he believes free speech on campus has become too restricted.

‘I have some differences with my generation in regard to free speech and other things,’ he said. 

‘I grew up watching Bill Maher before bed, after all,’ he noted, referring to the TV personality who has spoken out against limitations on free speech on college campuses. 

Since taking over his father’s firm, sources said, Alex attends to details his father would generally ignore.

He carries a small notebook to meetings, which he fills with notes to staffers.

‘He can drive folks in the foundation crazy because he’s so hands-on,’ said Anthony Romero, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union, which receives OSF funding.

Alex also frequently posts shots of himself with Democratic politicians including Nancy Pelosi, Barack Obama and Sen. Chuck Schumer – whom he called a ‘good friend.’

And recently-updated White House logs reveal he has visited at least 14 times since December 2021.

Last year Alex made two trips in April, three in September, four in October and four in December. 

Another visit was logged in December 2021. 

On December 1 2022, he met with then Chief of Staff Ron Klain’s advisor Nina Srivastava who worked on Biden’s presidential campaign. 

The same day he was one of 330 people to attend a state dinner hosted by the President and first lady Jill Biden.

The event was to honor French leader Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte. 

The day afterwards he met with both Advisor to the Counselor of President Mariana Adame and Deputy National Security Advisor Jonathan Finer. 

But Alex had been considered a long shot to take over his family fortune, with many people close to the Soros’s believing his older half-brother, Jonathan, 52, would take over the reigns.

Jonathan is a lawyer with a finance background, who worked for a time at the foundation and stabilized the Soros hedge fund during turbulent times.

Alex, meanwhile, had for years been known for his flamboyant lifestyle, picking up models and befriending NBA legends.

Somewhere along the way, though, Alex gained his father’s trust — standing in for George on trips to the organization’s offices around the world.

Since 2018, he has pumped around $5.7 million into left-leaning political action committees and Democratic campaign coffers, according to Federal Election Commission filings. 

His biggest contribution was $2 million in 2018 to Senate Majority PAC, which is tied to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.

‘He’s earned it,’ George said. 

It appears spring is in full bloom for Charlize Theron, who was pictured with her new romantic interest Alex Dimitrijevic on a lunch date Sunday.

The 47-year-old actress looked to be in great spirits as she was pictured with Dimitrijevic at the restaurant in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles.

The Oscar-winning Monster star was seen holding hands with Dimitrijevic, a model by trade, on the romantic daytime outing.

Theron donned a casual ensemble of a V-neck maroon sweater with roomy khaki pants and brown sandals as she headed to the restaurant.

She had her blonde locks to the side and wore a pair of black sunglasses while carrying an iPhone and a black Dior bag on the outing.

Dimitrijevic donned a yellow short-sleeved Avanti Silk Hawaiian Aloha shirt with a Tiger across the front with blue jeans and beige brown shoes.

Dimitrijevic, who has past modeled for brands such as Malbon Golf, AG Green Label, The Elder Statesman and Combo Boxing, sported a beard and had his locks combed back. 

He is listed on the Next Models page as being listed as 6-foot-3 and based out of Los Angeles. 

The last high-profile relationship for the South African actress came with A-lister Sean Penn in 2015. She has also been in past relationships with actor Craig Bierko, Third Eye Blind singer Stephen Jenkins, actor Stuart Townsend and model Gabriel Aubry.

Charlize is mom to two daughters: Jackson, 11, and August, seven.

In December 2022, Charlize said she would give up her career for her children if she had to choose between the two in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

Charlize said: ‘I love being a mom more than I love being an actor or a producer. And I never thought I would say that. 

‘If somebody said to me tomorrow, “You can’t do both,” would I be sad to give up acting? Of course. But it would be a no-brainer for me.’

She added that her current focus is all on her kids: ‘Right now, everything I do revolves around when my kids are out of school for the summer, which usually means we’re shooting in a heat wave somewhere.’

‘In 10 years, I can definitely see myself being an empty nester and just packing up and traveling three continents [directing] a TV show. But that’s not my life now.’

Theron earlier this month said she will ‘f*** up’ anyone who criticizes drag queens while speaking at an event opposing laws that attempt to prevent children viewing drag performances.

Theron made an appearance at the Drag Isn’t Dangerous telethon, which showcased live and included pre-taped appearances from Hollywood entertainers and those within the drag community.

The Mad Max star took a chunk of her time to praise drag queens and suggested she would have it out with anybody going after them. 

Theron, whose adopted son identifies as female, said children faced greater dangers in the world, seemingly referencing gun violence, which she has spoken out against in the past.

‘We love you queens! We’re in your corner, and we’ve got you, and I will f*** anybody up who is, like, trying to f*** with anything with you guys,’ she said at the event.

‘In all seriousness, there are so many things that are hurting and, really, killing our kids, right, and we all know what I’m talking about right now.’

The Oscar-winner said that ‘if you’ve ever seen a drag queen lip sync for her life, it only makes you happier, it only makes you love more. It makes you a better person.’ 

‘F***, if I could do a death drop right now I would, but I would probably like, break my hip,’ she said, referencing a popular drag move. 

She ended her time by asking viewers to ‘support all the great organizations that are out there helping all of this nonsense going away like it should, all of these incredibly stupid policies.’

Tennessee became the first state to explicitly ban drag shows in public spaces after Gov. Bill Lee signed the provision into law hours after the measure passed in the state Senate.

Drag shows have become a target of conservative criticism, as a slew of other anti-drag bills have been introduced in at least 14 other states — including Kentucky, Texas and Missouri.

Language across the numerous bills is similar to the Tennessee bill, which prohibits ‘adult cabaret performances’ in public places where minors could watch. 

In Tennessee’s bill, ‘adult cabaret’ is defined as ‘adult-oriented performances’ that include ‘male or female impersonators.’

Theron has regularly posted her support for the LGBTQ community on social media and last year was seen pouting in a picture with two people dressed in drag. 

In April 2019, she revealed to DailyMail.com that her elder child, Jackson, who was adopted as a baby and introduced to the world as a boy, identified as female. 

‘Yes, I thought she was a boy, too,’ Charlize agrees, briskly. ‘Until she looked at me when she was three years old and said: “I am not a boy!”

‘So there you go! I have two beautiful daughters who, just like any parent, I want to protect and I want to see thrive.

‘They were born who they are and exactly where in the world both of them get to find themselves as they grow up, and who they want to be, is not for me to decide.

‘My job as a parent is to celebrate them and to love them and to make sure that they have everything they need in order to be what they want to be.

‘And I will do everything in my power for my kids to have that right and to be protected within that.’
