Former President Donald Trump it would be worth facing potential jail time in order to ‘Make America Great Again’ by winning the 2024 election – and also insisted that President Biden can no longer talk.

The former president, 77, sat down with Kelly for a SiriusXM interview aired on Thursday that saw him sharing insight into many of the issues he faces ahead of the 2024 election.

Kelly said the former president’s indictments in four separate cases were ‘very scary’ for him due to ‘left-wing judges’ and ‘left-wing juries’ and asked him if he could see himself going to prison.

‘I have a great attitude, it doesn’t affect me at all because I’m fighting for the country, I’m fighting for the people,’ before talking about how good his poll numbers were and that ‘the people know it’s all fake.’

He ultimately said, however, it was worth facing both the indictments and jail time in order to ‘Make America Great Again,’ arguing that ‘our country’s going to hell.’

‘Our country’s going to hell. Our country’s going to down. The country, I believe, has one last chance, this is the most important election we’ve ever had.’

The former president also was melancholy about the notion he might never visit his many famous properties across the globe, citing his golf club in Scotland.

‘Would I like to be at Turnberry in Scotland right now or the many places I have… I may never see those places again. But I think this is very important. I think we’re gonna win the election.’

Trump was last indicted in Georgia for his alleged roles in trying to overturn the 2020 election, with prosecutors using statutes normally seen in mob trials and accusing the former president of being head of ‘a criminal organization’.

He is facing three other criminal cases: one, on federal charges relating to election interference; another federal case related to the mishandling of classified documents, and one in New York federal court for alleged hush money payments to Stormy Daniel.

Trump then pivoted to President Biden, whom he said ‘can’t talk’ when asked by Kelly if he thinks Biden will go the distance to 2024.

‘I can’t imagine,’ Trump said. ‘I saw him yesterday, he can’t put two sentences together. It’s not an age thing, it’s a competence thing. He can’t talk!’

Trump also cited a Washington Post op-ed written Wednesday where David Ignatius wrote with a headline: ‘President Biden should not run again in 2024.’

‘He has to debate, I guess. I hope he’s gonna debate, I guess. The people want a smart president.’

Trump also noted he ‘doesn’t see’ himself debating any of his Republican Primary opponents, suggesting he didn’t want to debate someone he was ‘like 60 points ahead’ of.

Kelly even begged him to do one just before the Iowa caucuses, with Trump saying no.

Elsewhere in the interview, Trump said while he thinks Joe Biden is ‘grossly incompetent,’ he does not feel he is too old to be president.

With just three years separating the two 2024 frontrunners, many are concerned over the increasing age of presidential candidates – as well as other leaders in Congress.

Polling shows that more than three-fourths of Americans feel that Biden, 80, is too old to serve another four years in office.

But Trump, 77, told Megyn Kelly that age isn’t the issue.

‘I have many friends that are in their 80s. I have friends… that are in their 90s and they’re sharp as a tack. Just, I mean I would say, just about what they used to be. No, not old. He’s incompetent,’ Trump said of Biden.

If Biden was reelected he would break his own record for being the oldest-ever inaugurated U.S. president at 82 years old.

Trump is the second-oldest president following Biden. He was inaugurated at the age of 70. He beat former President Ronald Reagan by just about a year.

‘Age is interesting, because some people are very sharp and some people do lose it, but you lose it at 40 and 50 also,’ Trump told Kelly. ‘But no, he’s not too old at all. He’s grossly incompetent.

‘You look at some of the great world leaders, they were in their 80s and they did— I mean, Churchill, so many people. They were phenomenal in their 80s. You know, there’s a great wisdom if you’re not in a position like him, but if you go back 25 years, he wasn’t the sharpest tack either.

He also shared insight into both Melania and his youngest son Barron, 17.

‘I think part of the beauty is that mystery,’ Trump said when asked what people misunderstand about his wife of more than 20 years, before comparing her with Hollywood legend Greta Garbo.

‘She was a great actress, But she was very reclusive, never did an interview. I don’t see Melania as like that, but she’s introspective, and she’s confident… She doesn’t need to be out there [to get interviewed],’ he explained.

‘She has confidence. She has a lot of self confidence.’

Trump also gave an update on Barron, saying the teen is doing ‘really well’ and is a ‘very good athlete.’

‘Barron’s very tall – about six eight. And, and he’s a good kid. He’s a good looking kid. He’s a great student, very good student…we’re thinking about [college] right now,’ he added.

It was a productive conversation for Trump and Kelly, who have a notoriously rocky history.

Trump claimed she had ‘blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever’ during the the August 2015 primary debate she moderated.

But it seems the feud is now water under the bridge as Kelly released Thursday morning clips of her sit-down interview with Trump.

Kelly had expressed her enthusiasm, assuring viewers that the interview would be nothing short of captivating.

‘I’m really looking forward to this,’ she said in the video. ‘It’s going to be great, it’s going to be spicy, and it’s going to be tough, but it’s going to be good and hopefully, we’re both going to enjoy it.’

Leicester is home to the worst cake bakers in Britain, according to a new study, which also reveals Brits’ most common baking fails.

Researchers asked the nation about their baking skills, with 66 per cent of those from Leicester admitting their cakes are usually a ‘disaster’, compared to the national average of just 43 per cent.

In second place is Birmingham where 64 per cent of people admit their baking skills leave a lot to be desired, followed by London (third, 59 per cent). In joint fourth place, it’s Leeds and Liverpool, where 58 per cent of locals declare their bakes ‘disastrous’.

Fifth in the ranking is Glasgow, where 57 per cent say they are cake-baking amateurs, followed by Nottingham (sixth, 56 per cent), Manchester (seventh, 52 per cent), Norwich (eighth, 51 per cent), and Sheffield (ninth, 49 per cent).

Elsewhere, the study, which comes ahead of the return of hit series The Great British Bake Off, found that Brits’ most common baking fail is dealing with unrisen cake batter. A third of respondents (33 per cent) have faced this issue.

The second most common baking fail is burning the top of the cake (20 per cent). It’s followed by taking a cake out of the oven with a soggy bottom (third, 19 per cent), which can mean the oven’s temperature was not high enough or the cake was not baked for long enough.

Other baking fiascos include making cakes with a rock-hard sponge, dealing with melted icing, facing sunken sponges, and making cakes that are bone dry (all 15 per cent, joint fourth).

More patisserie fails include fruit sinking to the bottom of a bake and making a cake that’s too thin to cut in half (joint fifth, both 11 per cent), the study of 2,000 people has revealed.

And 10 per cent of Brits have made cakes with lumpy, un-sifted flour (sixth).

The art of baking appeals to a wide audience, with almost three-quarters (74 per cent) of those surveyed saying they find baking shows like the Great British Bake Off inspiring.

But despite this keen interest, more than half (53 per cent) of Brits are forced to throw out their bakes because they’re inedible, the findings show.

Almost a quarter of Britons (23 per cent) have ended up buying a cake and passing it off as their own, the study reveals.

While 39 per cent claim their cake creations are so bad, they could not even consider posting them on social media.

More than a third (34 per cent) of respondents said trying to decorate cakes was ‘stressful’, while 55 per cent blamed their oven not being at the right temperature for their baking disasters.

The research was commissioned by Samsung’s Series 7 AI Oven, which has an internal camera and burn detection function.

Gino Grossi, from Samsung UK, said: ‘Our research says that over 55 per cent of the nation has blamed their oven for their baking disasters, while 70 per cent feel having smarter tech in the kitchen would help improve their baking skills.’

  •  For those aged 75-90 sex didn’t have to be all that good – just frequent

Having good sex in later life may help keep the brain healthy, a study suggests.

Researchers found that men and women aged between 62 and 74 who described their sex life as ‘very pleasurable and satisfying’ had better cognitive health scores five years later than those who had rated their bedroom behaviour less enthusiastically.

The results could be due to the stress-relieving benefits of good sex, the researchers said, as well as the release of the pleasure hormone, dopamine.

‘Stress prevents the new formation of neurons [neurogenesis] in the hippocampus, an area of the brain associated with memory,’ they wrote in their research paper.

‘Older adults who enjoy satisfying sexual activities may experience decreased stress that may in turn protect neurogenesis.’

Researchers found that men and women aged between 62 and 74 who described their sex life as ‘very pleasurable and satisfying’ had better cognitive health

The researchers, from Hope College, Michigan, U.S. added: ‘Sexual satisfaction is associated with orgasm, and an orgasm releases a rush of dopamine.

‘Thus, people with more sexually satisfying relationships may experience higher levels of dopamine, which has been linked to improved memory in older adults.’

The study involved 1,683 people aged 62 and older, and cognitive scores were a combined assessment of six key areas, including working memory, attention, and visuospatial skills.

And there was even better news for those aged 75-90, the study found. Their sex didn’t even have to be all that good – it just had to be frequent.

The team found that those in this age group who had any sexual activity – not necessarily intercourse, or with orgasm – once a week scored higher on the cognitive tests compared to those who had not had sex in the past year.

The size of the effect was comparable to the advantage conveyed by a longer education – i.e. having been to university compared to not finishing high school – ‘another factor known to positively impact cognitive function in this age group’, they said.

‘That sexual frequency matters in older-old ages may be because having any sex in these later years, regardless of sexual quality, is beneficial for health outcomes,’ they wrote in their paper, published in the Journal of Sex Research.

The size of the effect of good sex later in life was comparable to the advantage conveyed by a longer education - i.e. having been to university compared to not finishing high schoo

‘Sexual activity can foster cognitive health because it is a form of physical activity.

‘This may be especially true at older-old ages as physical inactivity increases with age and older-old adults have high rates of sedentary behaviour.

‘Thus, any circulatory benefits from having sex may be important at very old age.’

The researchers used data taken from a long-term population study in the US called the National Social Life, Health, and Aging Project and the results were analysed in a way that showed it was not simply that people with better cognitive health had more/better sex in the first place.

More than 80 per cent of the mammals and reptiles in Australia are unique to the country.

This makes it a bucket-list destination for animal lovers, with wildlife experiences on offer that range from cage diving with great white sharks to meeting Tasmania‘s most famous resident – the Tasmanian devil.

Here we present the best wildlife tours to experience in Australia, many of which help to raise money to further the conservation of the country’s astonishing animal kingdom…

DIVE WITH GREAT WHITE SHARKS – SOUTH AUSTRALIA

In the 1960s, Adelaide man Rodney Fox survived a near-fatal great white shark attack that left him with 462 stitches in his chest, right hand and arm. But after recovering from the incident, rather than fearing these fascinating creatures, he decided to devote his life to researching them.

He established the Fox Shark Research Foundation, which identifies and catalogues great whites, as well as Rodney Fox Shark Expeditions, a tour operator that sends travellers into the deep in shark-diving cages off the coast of South Australia’s Neptune Islands.

Those brave enough to go diving with these apex predators have two cage types to choose from – the first is a ‘surface cage’ that sits at the waterline as great white sharks are seen ‘effortlessly gliding around and below the cage’.

Those who have a scuba diving license can go in an ocean floor cage, which descends approximately 20 metres (66ft) ‘into a world that will captivate and spell-bind – a blue aquarium of rocky outcrops teeming with reef fish, white sand and swaying sea-grasses’. The website notes: ‘The great white that appears out of the blue and sweeps gracefully towards, over and around the cage. It is amazing!’

Camel Treks Australia offers a variety of camel-oriented excursions in the Gawler Ranges National Park

Camels were first introduced to Australia from the Canary Islands in 1840, the Australian tourist board reveals, with a population of more than one million camels now calling the continent home.

Allowing travellers to get to know these beautiful hump-backed mammals, Camel Treks Australia offers a variety of excursions with a caravan of camels, spread over several days, in the Gawler Ranges National Park of South Australia.

Guided by modern-day cameleers – people who lead camels through the outback – travellers can choose to either ride a camel through the desert terrain, or simply walk alongside them. The tour’s website notes: ‘Guest trekkers are often amazed by the depth of personality camels have. They can feel and respond to kindness and love, with some even seeking out people for such contact.’

Nights are spent camping in campsites equipped with private toilets and ‘deluxe’ tents with thick mattresses.

WHALE WATCHING – WESTERN AUSTRALIA

You might spot orcas (image three), long-finned pilot whales, sperm whales and dolphins cutting through the water near Bremer Bay in Western Australia

You might spot orcas (image three), long-finned pilot whales, sperm whales and dolphins cutting through the water near Bremer Bay in Western Australia

Each year, whales congregate in the waters above the Bremer Canyon, a 5,000m- (16,400ft) deep sea cleft that lies off the coast of the tiny town of Bremer Bay, southeast of Perth.

This makes it one of the world’s best whale-watching hotspots – you might spot orcas, long-finned pilot whales, sperm whales and dolphins cutting through the water on a wildlife-watching boat tour with Naturaliste Charters.

Expect to see researchers on board your boat, as the Naturaliste Charters team is involved with acoustic monitoring of whales and several environmental programs in the area.

In a recent review of the tour, Tripadvisor user ‘Lesley M’ described it as a ‘fantastic experience’, adding that it ‘felt like we were in a David Attenborough documentary’.

Eco-tourism operator ‘Exmouth Dive and Whalesharks Ningaloo’ takes travellers around the Ningaloo Marine Park so they can swim with whale sharks and other sea creatures

The Ningaloo Marine Park – which lies halfway up Western Australia’s coastline – is one of the world’s longest fringing (close to shore) reefs, stretching an incredible 240km (149 miles). And it spans 2,435 sq km (940 sq miles).

The World Heritage Listed site is ‘home to deep under-sea canyons, diverse colourful sponge gardens and rich fish communities’, the country’s national parks site notes.

Eco-tourism operator ‘Exmouth Dive and Whalesharks Ningaloo’ takes travellers around the marine park’s waters so they can swim, snorkel or scuba-dive with Ningaloo’s underwater residents – which notably includes whale sharks, the world’s largest fish, known to stretch up to 15m (49ft) in length.

Other sea creatures you might spot include dolphins, manta rays, turtles, and humpback whales. These tours also double as a data-collection exercise, with the team contributing to environmental studies and scientific research to ensure the longevity of the reef.

Dating back to the 1930s, Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures has long been an institution for tourists in far North Queensland.

The first place in Australia to breed crocodiles in captivity, the focus at the wildlife centre is on crocodile conservation. Its website notes: ‘Documentaries produced at Hartley’s helped arouse public interest and sympathy for crocodile conservation, leading to the protection of wild crocodiles in 1974.’

Travellers can see crocodiles getting fed as they take a boat ride around the centre’s croc-filled lagoons, with expert guides sharing facts about the lives of these fascinating reptiles throughout the tour. ‘Getting up close and personal with these impressive creatures was amazing,’ declared Tripadvisor user ‘LeisuremanVic’

Crocodiles aren’t the only creatures at the centre – there are also snakes, cassowaries (a large bird), lizards and kangaroos.

NRL Immortal Andrew Johns has dramatically quit the SEN radio network as the fallout from his on-air feud with brother Matthew Johns continues to fester.

The footy siblings – who often don’t see eye to eye – have failed to patch up their differences following a heated on-air debate ahead of the State of Origin series opener last month.

Fox Sports identity Matthew Johns, who hosts the Morning Glory program each Friday, praised the coaching abilities of Queensland mentor Billy Slater, which got under his younger brother’s skin.

Andrew Johns is also a member of the NSW Blues coaching staff.

SEN station boss Craig Hutchison was confident the siblings would soon be on the same page – possibly once the Origin series is finished – but it is believed a fired up Andrew Johns has declared he won’t be back on the airwaves in 2023.

The footy siblings – who often don’t see eye to eye – have failed to patch up their differences following a rigorous on-air debate ahead of the State of Origin series opener on May 31 (Matthew Johns is pictured with wife Trish)

On June 9 – for the second successive week – Andrew failed to show at SEN’s Walker St studios in North Sydney.

Matthew Johns stated in the lead up ‘I’m just going to leave the studio door open,’ and if ‘he walks through the doors at one minute to nine then he does, if he doesn’t we will just have to make do.’

Johns and respected sports journalist Andrew Webster then failed to address the elephant in the room.

Matthew’s comments on Slater incensed young brother Andrew, who is as passionate as they come when it comes to the Blues.

‘Mate, I’m sick of you rapping Queensland, that’s what I’m sick of,’ Andrew, who is widely regarded as the Blues’ best ever player, fumed on live radio last month.

‘Put your Maroon jersey on, you should have some at home.

‘Just because you played four games and lost all four doesn’t mean you need to s**t bag NSW.’

Matty Johns’ recent comments on Queensland’s ability to own big moments in Origin and the rise of Billy Slater as Maroons head coach infuriated his younger brother Andrew (pictured)

Earlier this month, Matthew Johns confirmed the former NSW Blues halfback still wasn’t prepared to smoke the peace pipe.

‘Houston we have a problem, it’s official my brother is completely off me,’ Matty told listeners.

‘There were rumours he might not come. I thought the last three weeks of him not returning phone calls was laziness.

‘He is off me. This is nothing new for me and Joey (Andrew). We were forced to share a bedroom for 19 years.

‘We’ve had a fill of each other. Every six months we have a blue like this.’

While Matthew’s Origin career was relatively short, his brother played 23 times for the Blues, including a legendary man-of-the-match performance in Game Two of the 2005 series.

The pair have often clashed over the years, with most of their run-ins good natured.

Last July, Matthew used a radio debate about State of Origin as an opportunity to take a savage swipe at his brother over his love life.

The NSW side is known for dropping stars from their team with regularity – often when fans think they don’t deserve to be shown the door – whereas Queensland are regarded as showing more loyalty to their players.

Matty used Andrew – who is in his third long-term relationship – to sum up the Blues’ selection process.

‘It’s very NSW. I want people to know….be extremely concerned. Don’t marry anyone from NSW because we fall in love with new acquaintances very easily,’ he said on SEN.

‘What you do, is you just get rid of them. Just bring someone else in.

‘I mean, the best example is our best ever player, Andrew Johns, I think he’s onto his third wife.’

Viral video shows Wally Lewis losing his mind as Maroons seal their miracle Origin win – with the Queensland legend celebrating so hard he slammed his head into the ceiling

  • Wally Lewis was clearly elated at Maroons’ Origin win
  • Footage showed the ‘King’ literally hitting the roof
  • Regarded as Queensland’s best ever player in the arena

Maroons legend Wally Lewis owned the State of Origin arena in his playing days – and it seems his level of excitement for big moments hasn’t changed now that he’s a commentator instead of the team’s biggest star.

The ‘King’ was working for Channel 9 on Wednesday night, and footage has emerged of Queensland‘s favourite son getting very animated at Adelaide Oval.

So much so Lewis slammed his head into a wall as celebrations went into overdrive.

A late try to Cameron Munster sealed an impressive 26-18 win for Billy Slater’s men – and Lewis was on cloud nine.

Speaking to TV colleague Alison Ariotti, Lewis hailed the never-say-die attitude displayed by the stars who have followed in his footsteps.

‘I was excited, Queensland had just pulled off a stunning comeback to snatch the result,’ he said.

‘I was feeling pretty good about it … and didn’t realise a camera was on me.

‘I hit my head on the side of the roof at one stage…. and I was the only one celebrating, the other commentators were cheering on the Blues.’

Lewis added the playing group ‘knew they had achieved something special’ after the Blues took an 18-16 lead with just 12 minutes left.

And when prop Tom Flegler was sin-binned moments later, a win for the Maroons looked near impossible.

But as they have done to NSW fans for many years, Queensland broke their hearts to take the ascendency ahead of game two at Suncorp Stadium on June 21.

Under pressure Blues coach Brad Fittler will be tempted to make a number of team changes, with Jarome Luai, Tom Trbojevic and Hudson Young likely casualties.

If Queensland win on home soil, Fittler will have likely coached his final game for NSW.

Establishing the difference between Great Britain, the British Isles and the United Kingdom can cause confusion even among Britons.

The region, off the northwest coast of mainland Europe, has a collective history with a long list of terms to refer to different areas, both geographically and politically.

Scroll down to learn more about what differentiates them – and never mistake Britain for the UK again!

UK vs Great Britain (or Britain)

Great Britain, or simply Britain, is not a country but an island made up of England, Scotland and Wales.

It is referred to as ‘Great’ because of its size, being the largest island in the British Isles according to Historic UK.

Great Britain is made up of England, Scotland and Wales, while the island of Ireland comprises Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland

Like Great Britain, the United Kingdom comprises England, Scotland and Wales, with the addition of Northern Ireland.

However just to confuse matters, the term Britain is sometimes used to refer to the UK as a whole, as noted by Britannica.

Is the UK a country?

The UK Prime Minister’s official site describes the UK as ‘countries within a country’, as shown by the National Archives.

To break this down, the UK is an independent ‘island country’ which is made up of four nation countries – England, Scotland and Wales (also known as Great Britain) and Northern Ireland.

The UK is also referred to as a sovereign state where Parliament has ‘supreme legal authority’ to ‘create or end any law’, according to the UK Parliament website.

‘For Americans, the best analogy would be that the UK is like the USA, whilst its four consistent countries are like states,’ says Historic UK.

England, Scotland and Wales make up Great Britain while the United Kingdom also includes Northern Ireland. The Republic of Ireland is an independent country of its own. They are all geographically located within the British Isles, though this is a controversial notion in Ireland

British Isles

The British Isles is a geographical term used to refer to a collection of more than 6,000 islands.

‘The group consists of two main islands, Great Britain and Ireland, and numerous smaller islands and island groups, including the Hebrides, the Shetland Islands, the Orkney Islands, the Isles of Scilly, and the Isle of Man’, Britannica says.

‘Some also include the Channel Islands in this grouping,’ it adds (more on this below).

‘Although the term British Isles has a long history of common usage, it has become increasingly controversial,’ Britannica explains.

This applies ‘especially for some in Ireland who object to its connotation of political and cultural connections between Ireland and the United Kingdom’, it adds.

The Irish government has not supported the use of the term ‘British Isles’ since September 2005.

Speaking at the time, then Foreign Affairs Minister Dermot Ahern said: ‘The British Isles is not an officially recognised term in any legal or inter-governmental sense. It is without any official status.’

Mr Ahern’s famous comments are quoted by Sean Moncrieff in his book ‘The Irish Paradox: How and Why We Are Such a Contradictory People’.

GREAT BRITAIN, THE BRITISH ISLES AND THE UNITED KINGDOM IN BRIEF

Great Britain: An island off the northwest coast of mainland Europe comprising England, Scotland and Wales.

United Kingdom: A sovereign country that includes the countries of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland

British Isles: A geographical term that refers to a group of more than 6,000 islands including Britain, the island of Ireland, and the Channel Islands.

England: A country that borders Scotland and Wales – which together make up Great Britain and form part of the United Kingdom.

The UK Parliament – made up of the House of Commons and the House of Lords in London – is ‘the supreme legal authority’ that can ‘create or end any law’, according to the UK Constitution.

However, Wales and Scotland both have parliaments with a certain level of autonomy. And though the English and Welsh legal systems are bound together, both Wales and Scotland can create their own laws.

For example, the drink-drive limit and the legal hours for buying alcohol are stricter in Scotland than in England and Wales.

Arson and manslaughter do not exist as offences in Scotland, where they are referred to as ‘wilful fire raising’ and ‘culpable homicide’ retrospectively, according to the Scottish Parliament.

Ireland vs Northern Ireland vs Republic of Ireland

Ireland is an island located to the west of Great Britain, which is separated by the North Channel.

The island is the second largest in the geographical area of the British Isles, after Great Britain.

It is made up of two countries – Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

Northern Ireland forms part of the UK, which is no longer a part of the European Union.

While the Republic of Ireland is its own independent country and remains one of 27 members of the EU bloc.

All of the island of Ireland was part of the UK from 1801 to 1922.

Where do the Channel Islands fit in?

The Channel Islands are not part of the UK but are dependencies of the British crown

The Channel Islands have been ‘dependencies of the British crown’ since 1066, according to Britannica.

Located off the coast of France, they are not a part of the UK and are self-governing with their own customs and laws.

The four main islands are Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney, and Sark.

Some say the Channel Islands are a part of the British Isles including the official website of the British Royal Family, which refers to them as ‘self-governing possessions of the British Crown’.

While others argue that they are not included because they are physically a separate archipelago from the rest of the isles.

The Channel Islands were the only British territory to be occupied by the Germans during World War II, Britannica adds.

A golfing odyssey on hallowed greens… and a soak in the ultimate spa: Inside the legendary Celtic Manor resort for a great couples’ weekend escape

The wind whipped up and swirled around us as we stood and surveyed the dramatic landscape.

Green valleys glistened in the early morning light.

In the distance the Welsh flag flew proudly in front of the enormous hotel.

We cracked our tee shots and laughed as we meandered down the pristine fairways, basking in the freedom of a few precious child-free hours.

We had picked the Celtic Manor golf resort as our destination for a couples’ weekend: two golfers on the course and two wives in the spa – with the kids left firmly behind to cause chaos with the grandparents.

The resort and championship golf course famously played host to Europe’s 2010 Ryder Cup heroics in which they overcame a box office American team.

That victory left an indelible mark on one of sport’s greatest competitions and has been invaluable to the Welsh tourism industry ever since.

Thirteen years on, golfers still flock in their droves to create their own moments of magic on the hallowed greens.

The resort boasts three courses: the 2010 course – for big boys and girls – as well as the Montgomerie and the Roman Road courses.

They all possess something different and offer a stern challenge.

With an open course in front of us we scampered round, crowing over the odd great shot and cursing the missed putts that fell victim to the electric greens.

It would have been rude not to visit The Grill bar and restaurant, which overlooks the 18th green of the Roman Road course, for a few much needed pints and to toast an incredible golfing odyssey.

At night we dined at the fantastic Pad restaurant – offering modern Asian cuisine.

The chilli braised octopus bao buns and deep fried soft shell crab cakes were to die for.

The Korean marinated beef rump steak and Sri Lankan curry are thoroughly recommended – especially when washed down with bottomless glasses of crisp white wine.

For a nightcap we headed to Merlins Bar for a cocktail.

After retiring to our rooms I stood out on the enormous balcony overlooking the majestic golf course.

Laughter echoed in the darkness below me and I chuckled to myself.

It had truly been a day to remember.
