Nikki Haley says Biden is worse than King George: 2024 hopeful compares Britain’s crackdown on the colonies to Joe trying to ‘control the lightbulbs we use’ and the ‘stoves we buy’

  • Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley debuted her ‘Freedom Plan’ from Saint Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire Friday
  • As part of it, she listed way to ‘reduce federal government control of our lives’
  • In her speech she said the British ‘had nothing on Joe Biden’ railing him for trying to control light bulbs, cars and the stoves Americans can buy

Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley floated Friday that President Joe Biden was worse than Britain’s King George III, whose behavior sparked the American Revolution.

Haley was debuting her ‘Freedom Plan’ – an economic agenda she hopes to enact if elected to the White House next year – in front of an audience of potential voters at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire

One of the three tenets she’s proposing is a laundry list of ways to ‘reduce federal government control of our lives.’

In the Declaration of Independence, the founders accused King George of sending “swarms of officers to harass our people and eat out their substance,” but the British had nothing on Joe Biden,’ she said, earning some laughs from the crowd.

‘He’s trying to control the lightbulbs we use, the cars we drive, the stoves we buy and countless other parts of our daily lives,’ she added.

King George III

Haley floated that President Joe Biden (left) was worse than Britain’s King George III (right) for trying to ‘control the lightbulbs we use’ and the ‘stoves we buy’

She complained that, ‘Entire industries now live or die based on the whims of Washington.’

Last month the Biden administration banned incandescent light bulbs, a process that started when Republican President George W. Bush was president and Congress passed the Energy Independence and Security Act.

The Trump Administration had appealed the rules, but the Biden Administration picked it back up when he came into office in January 2021.

The president has also championed the conversion to electric vehicles – signing legislation that includes incentives to move this forward.

As for stoves, in January, a Biden-appointed commissioner of the Consumer Product Safety Commission, Richard L. Trumka Jr., created a frenzy on the political right when he said that gas stoves were a ‘hidden hazard’ and ‘any option,’ including a ban, was on the table.

Trumka had pointed to links between gas stoves and child asthma rates.

Facing a firestrom of criticism from Republicans, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was forced to announce that the administration was not coming after Americans’ gas stoves.

‘The president does not support banning gas stoves and the Consumer Product Safety Commission, which is independent, is not banning as stoves,’ she said.

Haley’s comments follow former President Donald Trump, one of her 2024 Republican White House rivals, complaining about the government setting certain energy standards.

‘You know I have this gorgeous head of hair – when I take a shower, I want water to pour down on me. When you go into these new homes with showers, the water drips down slowly, slowly,’ Trump said last month at a dinner with voters in South Carolina.

Other parts of Haley’s ‘Freedom Plan’ included changes to the tax code that she claimed would benefit the middle class and forcing Congress to cut the budget.

‘I will veto any spending bill that doesn’t take us back to pre COVID levels,’ she pledged. ‘We’re not talking about 1950 spending levels. We’re talking about just four years ago.’

One of her ideas included not paying members of Congress when they fail to pass a budget.

She also pitched rolling back Biden’s green energy incentives.

‘Joe Biden is pushing us to buy expensive electric cars and subsidizing car companies,’ Haley said. ‘Innovative electric car companies don’t need subsidies.’

Haley also pointed out that most electric car batteries are made in China, despite the White House’s current push to move battery manufacturing to the United States.

Ford converts to wrap up England win (34-12)

TRY ENGLAND (32-12) Joe Marchant

More England changes (27-12)

Borthwick switches things up as he looks to exploit the tired Japanese legs.

Off – Tuilagi, Steward, George

On – Smith, Lawrence, Dan

Ford converts to put England in control (27-12)

Ford is calm and collective as he sends the kick through the posts to add another two points

TRY ENGLAND (25-12) Freddie Steward

England dominate at the scrum inside Japan’s five-metre line and Ford’s cross-field kick is inch perfect as Steward hangs out on the wing before collecting the ball and touching it down for a third Roses try.

England substitution (20-12)

Lawes departs to get treatment for a cut as Martin is brought on. Ford takes over captaincy duties.

England’s attack starting to open up (20-12)

It’s a lot better play from England than what we have seen for so much of this match as Ford dummies and makes ground before being pulled down five metres from the try line. Stuart then knocks on from a pick and go but this is better from Borthwick’s side.

England substitutions (20-12)

Steve Borthwick finally goes to his bench and makes two changes as Ellis Genge and Ben Youngs replace Marler and Mitchell.

Billy Vunipola is also added into the fray as Ludlam is hooked.

This game is finally coming ALIVE (20-12)

It’s only taken the best part of 58 minutes but finally we have lift-off in Nice as both teams have chances at either end. Earls makes good ground as he gets his head down and smashes through challenges.

Matsushima then shows electric feet to side-step three challenges inside his own 10 metres and carry the ball all the way into England’s half before he is brought down. Sensational skill.

Ford converts with ease (20-12)

Ford knocks the resulting conversion through the posts and England are back in control.

TRY ENGLAND (18-12) Courtney Lawes

It’s an error from England but Lawes scores a try after the ball is shown to have bounced off Joe Marler’s head and into the hands of the Roses captain.

Matsuda kicks another penalty (13-12)

England’s errors continue and Matsuda reduces the deficit to just one point as his kick directly in front of the posts sails over.

Japan substitution (13-9)

Japan make their second bunch of changes as they bring in fresh legs to disrupt England.

Loosehead prop Inagaki is replaced by Millar as Valu comes on for Koo.

Both sides making mistakes (13-9)

This match is so erratic as Ford’s kick is brilliantly gathered by Japan full-back Lemeki who then evades a few tackles before being brought down. His pop-pass is then knocked on and Ford boots the ball into the dead-ball zone. Serious lack of quality on show.

Steward knocks on as chances go begging (13-9)

England have bodies forward again and break but it all seems so unorganised and Steward then knocks on as he latches onto a Ford pass.

Japan frustrate England with penalty (13-9)

There’s space for Mitchell to try and find Steward with a cross-field kick but instead he opts to give the ball to Itoje who is isolated and Japan turnover and win a penalty. England have to do better when in these situations.

Daly chased down as England break (13-9)

That’s better from England as Daly puts on the afterburners and makes yards. He is chased down by Fakatava who does well to put him into touch.

Back underway in Nice (13-9)

The trailing side get us restarted and both teams will need an improved performance in the next 40 minutes.

HALF TIME: England 13-9 Japan

CHRIS FOY IN NICE: England lead 13-9 but that was not a great half at all. They were messy and stodgy in attack – when they did attack, which wasn’t very often.

The ball has been in the air a lot, which won’t have done much for the TV viewing figures at home. Hopefully the spectacle picks up after the break.

Ford kicks late penalty (13-9)

It’s poor game management just before half time from Japan as they are penalised again and this time Ford decides to kick. He adds another three more points and that brings up the break.

George knocks on as Earl makes a poor pass (10-9)

England win the lineout but immediately make an error as Earl mistimes his pass that is meant for Ludlam and instead hits George in the face with the ball. He knocks it on and there is clearly some miscommunication there.

Play pulled back for England penalty (10-9)

England try to use their advantage for a Japan player coming in from the side at a maul but Ford’s kick is intercepted. He then opts to kick for touch instead of going for the points.

Consecutive scrums testing both teams physicality (10-9)

We have a few quick scrums and a slight break in play as a few players receive treatment. It’s hot, it’s physcial and neither set of players wants to concede an inch.

Earl’s quick-feet gets England out of trouble (10-9)

England lose possession through some sloppy play and the ball is just too far in front of Leitch who watches Earl dive on the ball and get up again before side-stepping the experience Japan star.

Matsuda reduces the deficit (10-9)

The Japan fly-half completes his penalty and pulls his side back to within one point. This match has been incredibly stop-start but it is close.

Ford MISSES penalty (10-6)

It was perhaps too big a kick for Ford as he pulls his effort to the right and Japan are off the hook. Japan then win a penalty almost immediately after for a late tackle by Jonny May.

England win a penalty and will kick again (10-6)

Japan seem rattled as they commit another foul this time for a tackle off the ball. Ford opts to kick for the posts but it’s a long effort to make.

Ford converts (10-6)

It’s simple for the England fly-half who converts the try with ease.

TRY England (8-6) Lewis Ludlam

England use their physicality after winning a lineout five metres from the try line to put Ludlam in the pocket after a pick and go and he bulldozes his way over the try line. Great response.

Japan edge ahead (3-6)

The Japan number 10 makes no mistake and kicks well from the left-hand side of the pitch. Japan are now in front, can England respond?

Japan will kick for the posts again (3-3)

A Japan lineout ends with Ben Earl being pinged for offside and that gives Matsuda another chance to kick for three more points.

Water break (3-3)

Water break in Nice as players are given a few minutes to replenish and get fluids onboard. It’s currently 25 degrees in the ground.

England come under huge pressure (3-3)

England get away with one as Ford’s kick is charged down by Matsuda and suddenly Japan have a chance to score. Mitchell recovers well and Lewis Ludlam does brilliantly to chase back and seal off at the ruck.

Jamie George tells England to get ‘physical’ in the scrum (3-3)

England have a scrum midway through their own half and hooker Jamie George can be heard shouting at his team-mates to ‘get physical’. They do exactly that and win the scrum.

Japan pull level with penalty (3-3)

All square as Japan’s kick directly in front of the post is sent through the uprights. Easy kick for Matsuda and that will wake England up a bit.

Japan cross-field kick is so close to unlocking England (3-0)

Japan’s interception from that England maul kickstarts a dynamite attack that has England’s defence scrambling. They have an advantage and go for the spectacular but it is hit just too long.

England maul makes huge yards (3-0)

Brillian tfrom England as they surge deep into the Japanese half with a huge maul. They then immediately waste it as Mitchell’s pass is poor and Japan intercept before making yards of their own. End-to-end.

Daly knocks on as England’s attack is wasted (3-0)

England string a few passes together around the halfway line and break down the left. Daly does well but then knocks the ball on as he is tackled and Japan kick the resulting penalty back upfield.

Japan substitution (3-0)

It’s an early enforced change for Japan as Masirewa concedes he won’t be able to continue and Lomano Lemecki comes on to replace him.

Steward finds touch from deep (3-0)

The England full-back finds touch from his own half and that puts Japan under pressure from a lineout. Meanwhile there is concern for Masirewa who has gone down holding his thigh.

England take early lead (3-0)

The decision to kick wasn’t well supported by England fans in the ground but it gets early points on the board as Ford easily kicks the penalty,

Ford will kick for the posts (0-0)

England have a few phases after the scrum and get an advantage for offside. Play is then called back and Ford will kick for the points.

Japan concede a clumsy penalty (0-0)

Daly’s kick should be collected comfortably but Masirewa gets it all wrong and knocks the ball on. England win their scrum five metres out.

KICK OFF: Underway in Nice

George Ford gets us started and we are underway in Nice for this Rugby World Cup clash. Stick with us throughout for every big moment.

Empty seats in the stands as players emerge

CHRIS FOY IN NICE: As the teams are coming out, there are quite a lot of empty seats still. Maybe fans are having trouble getting into the stadium, as was the case last week – but there is no way of knowing from inside as it is a sealed arena, with no exterior views.

Japan searching for first-ever win over England

The great news if you’re cheering on England is that Japan have never won this fixture before.

Tonight is the fourt meeting between the two sides and Japan will be hoping to turn the odds on world rugby’s biggest stage.

England ran out 52-13 winners when they last played Japan at Twickenham in 2022.

England’s player to watch: George Ford

The England fly-half was instrumental to success against Argentina and will be tasked with grabbing tonight’s match by the scruff of the neck in a similar fashion.

It would be a surprise to see Ford deploy the same drop-kicking tactic tonight but if he is given creative licence then expect fireworks from the fly-half.

15 minutes until kick off

We are just 15 minutes away from kick off in Nice as players finish their warm-ups and head back to the changing rooms. The stadium is filling up nicely and there will be an almighty atmosphere when the players next emerge onto the pitch.

Japanese journalists flock to the Allianz Riviera

NIK SIMON IN NICE: One thing that struck me in the media centre is the number of Japanese journalists who have travelled over.

They have arrived in force, outnumbering the English contingent despite the 14-hour flight. It’s an indication of how much the game’s popularity has grown in Japan after the 2015 and 2019 World Cups.

There will be plenty of fans setting their alarms for 4am Tokyo time to tune in.

Tom Curry serving first of two-match ban

Tom Curry’s red card against Argentina ensures he will play no part tonight as he serves a two-match ban for his tackle on Juan Cruz Mallia.

Curry will miss tonight’s match and the next group game against Chile.

England’s long-kicking on show in the warm-up

CHRIS FOY IN NICE: England are warming up here in Nice and they have been practising plenty of long kicks.

Elliot Daly has drilled over a few shots from beyond the halfway line – with room to spare – and Freddie Steward has even joined in with some successful strikes from distance. Head coach Steve Borthwick is observing the forwards, but leaving his assistants to put the players through their paces.

The secret to George Ford’s kicking? Watching Roger Federer

NIK SIMON: With the thump of tennis balls providing a steady beat in the background, George Ford is talking about Roger Federer. England moved south this week to the Mouratoglou Tennis Academy, where Grand Slam champions are taught all about remaining calm and in control.

‘I’ve been fortunate enough to watch Wimbledon a couple of times and seen some five-set matches,’ says Ford, taking in the surroundings where Serena Williams trained for the best part of a decade.

Movie stars and directors traditionally enjoy travelling to the lagoon city to launch their films. However, this year will offer a bit less sparkle than usual because a Hollywood actors’ strike will prevent many stars from promoting their work here.

The festival’s artistic director Alberto Barbera is putting a brave face on the expected disruption and has managed to attract one of the strongest line-ups in recent years, defying dire predictions of a mass no-show by big studio productions.

‘We know that some talent will not be able to attend … But some others will come because they are working in the independent films. So everything is good. It looks very positive.’

Away from Venice’s picture-perfect canals, a sense of crisis pervades the movie-making business, with strikes by both the main U.S. actors and writers’ unions bringing much of the entertainment industry to a standstill.

‘If the strikes last longer, it will have a huge, negative impact on the next (release) season and the awards season as well,’ Barbera said.

Nobody in Hollywood wants to be seen doing the wrong thing by the strikers and the whole film and TV industry has ground to a complete stop.

The writers union, the WGA, went on strike on May 2nd, and were followed by SAG-AFTRA, the actors union, on July 14th.

George Clarke is left gobsmacked when a couple who want to change the entire structure of their terraced home by themselves pull it off for under £40,000 – despite having no building experience whatsoever.

The Geordie architect visits Simon and Holly in Weston Super Mare in tonight’s episode of Old House, New Home, which airs on Channel 4 at 9pm.

The couple have recently bought a three-storey terraced house with six bedrooms on a Georgian crescent in the seaside town – but since it was built, it has been converted into three flats and then back into a townhouse, leaving the whole building with an unusual layout.

As the couple, who have two young children, lead the presenter around their new home, which they purchased for £345,000, they tell him their plans for changing the layout – which include knocking down walls and breaking through ceilings.

However, George is left lost for words when Simon reveals he will be doing the majority of the building work – even though he has never worked on a project like this before.

But after an 11 month project in which Simon and Holly manage to complete the work for under £40,000, George brands it a ‘miracle’.

A couple on George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces transformed their Georgian terraced house on their own for less than £40,000

Simon and Holly bought the house as a family home for their children Alfie and Daisy after spending four years sailing around the world.

At the beginning of the programme, Holly says: ‘We didn’t intend anything like this. We thought, ‘small mortgage, hassle-free’ after being on a boat. And then somehow we bought this.’

Simon adds: ‘It just kind of spiralled out of control and then we had it.’

Describing the house as a ‘great space but definitely tired’, George said it needed ‘a lot of work’ and asked who would be carrying out the renovation – to which Simon responded it would be him.

George said: ‘You must have loads of building experience.’

‘Zero, none,’ Simon replies, leaving George wide-eyed as he responds: ‘You’ve never built anything before? And you’re going to do all this?’

Simon explains he won’t touch things like the gas and electricity and will instead bring in professionals to take on those jobs – at which point George looks relieved.

Holly then jokes: ‘Do you want me to get a defibrillator in?’

As George is shown around the house and its unusual structure, he decries the ‘bodge’ DIY jobs that have been carried out on the property over the years, when it was split into three flats.

He is shown into one room where he looks out of the window onto the garden, and says it’s ‘a shame’ to see how the 19th century house’s original features have been covered up, such as the fireplaces and the handrails on the stairs.

‘You would never think you were in a beautiful period house in here would you?’ he asks, before adding: ‘It’s pretty miserable actually. Sorry.’

As the couple gets started on their mammoth project, for which their maximum budget is £40,000, they run into problems early on – but luckily, George is on hand to help.

In one scene, he dons his safety goggles to help Simon knock through a hastily-built, tiny bathroom (the placement of which he described as ‘criminal’) to create more space.

Later in the programme, he calls in a favour with a carpenter who helps restore the bannister on the stairs to include a curved handrail which had been cut out and replaced with a hard angle somewhere during the building process.

By the end of the programme and 11 months later, Simon and Holly have completed almost the entire project by themselves – but the architect and his team have spent a few days on the property to put the finishing touches on the project.

The big reveal shows how the couple have managed to knock through a wall on the ground floor of the property to create a farmhouse-style, open plan kitchen diner with patterned tiles that had been hand-painted by Holly.

As he tours the property, George says: ‘I feel like I’m in a completely different house altogether.’

Among the huge changes made by the parents was restoring the first-floor reception room in the house, which had been split into two rooms by previous owners.

The room now features red velvet furniture, patterned wallpaper and a period fireplace which has been restored.

Simon and Holly sit down with George in the reception room at the end of the programme to debrief on the project.

Holly praised her husband for his hard work completing the project almost entirely on his own with no building experience, which she said had taken him away from the children.

The couple tell George they have completed the project for between £35,000 and £40,000.

Holly says: ‘I still think that’s pretty good for what we’ve done!’

George replies: ‘Pretty good? That’s a miracle! It’s an absolute miracle! What are you talking about, ‘pretty good’?’

Prince George has joined his father Prince William at the second Ashes Test at Lord’s, London.

The young royal, nine, sat next to the Prince of Wales, 41, in the stands while watching England take on Australia during the cricket game.

Their appearance comes after Prince George was last week reportedly spotted taking a look at the boarding school where he could soon become a pupil.

His parents Prince William and Princess Kate, both 41, were seen on campus at Eton College, Hello! magazine reported.

In a photo of the meeting shared on social media by royal fans, little George, who will be ten next month, was wearing navy shorts, a short-sleeved shirt and black shoes while standing next to his father. He was also educated at the prestigious boarding school in Berkshire.

Meanwhile, Kate appeared to repeat her white and emerald £490 Cefinn shirt dress, which she debuted on a trip to Nuneaton the week prior, to visit the school.

The trio stood with a man and a woman, who appeared to be staff members at Eton College, and chatted outside, while standing next to a sign which reads: ‘The Porter’s Lodge’ – and another ‘no entry’ sign.

Prince William and his younger brother, Prince Harry, 38, were both secondary school pupils at Eton College, with William enrolling in 1995.

Currently, Eton College lists its tuition fees as £15,432 per half – with ‘half’ meaning ‘term’ and three terms in the school year.

This totals to £46,296 per year for tuition fees at the prestigious school, whose alumni include David Cameron, Boris Johnson and George Osborne.

Following a move to Windsor last year, the Wales children all enrolled at Lambrook Primary School in Berkshire – just a ten-minute drive away from their new home, Adelaide Cottage.

Lambrook boasts of ‘first-class teaching and superb facilities’ which include a 25-metre swimming pool, a nine-hole golf course, an astroturf, hard courts, a squash court, cricket and other sports pitches.

Fees cost £4,389 a term for Reception to Year 2 pupils such as Louis, £6,448 per term for Years 3-4 like Charlotte, and £6,999 per term for George through Years 5-8, with an additional £1,481 per term for boarding for Y3-8.

Famous alumni include the actor Alex Pettyfer, the sons of wartime Prime Minister Herbert Asquith and entrepreneur Giles Clarke, who founded Majestic Wine.

Prior to the move, Prince George and his little sister, Princess Charlotte, eight, attended Thomas’s prep school on Battersea High Street.

George Frazier, a relief pitcher who made two World Series appearances over a decade-long MLB career before becoming a broadcaster, passed away in Tulsa on Monday at age 68.

A specific cause of death has not been revealed, but he had been battling an undisclosed illness, according to the Denver Post.

Frazier is remembered by Colorado Rockies fans as the team’s color commentator from 1998 until 2015.

‘In a game full of charismatic characters, George had a seat at the head table,’ long-time Rockies play-by-play announcer Drew Goodman told the Denver Post.

Best known as Rich ‘Goose’ Gossage’s setup man for the New York Yankees, Frazier also pitched for the St. Louis Cardinals, Cleveland Indians, Chicago Cubs and Minnesota Twins, winning a World Series in his final season with the latter.

The Rockies also released a statement on Monday.

‘We are deeply saddened at the passing of former Rockies color analyst, George Frazier,’ the statement began.

‘A retired MLB pitcher, George was a mainstay and the voice behind many classic calls on Rockies broadcasts from 1998-2015. For a generation of Rockies fans, George Frazier was synonymous with Rockies baseball. Our thoughts are with George’s wife, Kay, and his four kids, Matt, Brian, Parker and Georgia, during this time.’

A lanky, 6-foot-5 right-hander, Frazier was a star a Springfield, Missouri’s Hillcrest High School, where he played alongside two other future major leaguers in Bob Detherage and Keith Drumright. Although he was drafted in the 13th round by the Texas Rangers, Frazier instead enrolled at the University of Oklahoma before ultimately being picked by the Milwaukee Brewers in the ninth round of the 1976 draft.

A year later, he was dealt to the St. Louis Cardinals for Buck Martinez, and soon blossomed into a reliable option out of the bullpen for manager Ken Boyer.

Frazier dropped his ERA to an impressive 2.74 in 1980, but had his best season in the Bronx in 1981 after being traded Rafael Santana and posting a miniscule 1.63 ERA, while serving as Rich ‘Goose’ Gossage’s setup man.

Frazier made the first of two career World Series appearances that season, but pitched poorly, yielding seven earned runs in just 3.2 innings of work against the eventual-champion Los Angeles Dodgers. Worst of all, he became the first pitcher to lose three games in a single best-of-seven World Series.

As disappointing as that was, Frazier got a literal and figurative pat on the back from cantankerous owner George Steinbrenner.

‘It wasn’t your fault, kid,’ Steinbrenner said to Frazier, as retold by the reliever to the New York Times in 2011. ‘You’ll be a Yankee next year, don’t worry about it.’

Frazier was a Yankee the following season, and remained a solid option out of the bullpen for the battalion of managers who toiled under Steinbrenner’s wrath in the 1980s: Gene Michael, Bob Lemon, Gene Michael, Clyde King, and Billy Martin.

During that time, he built a rapport with Yankee legend and Oklahoma native, Mickey Mantle.

‘Mickey walks over and says, ”Hey, I heard you’re from Oklahoma,” so we visited for 15 or 20 minutes, and after the game, we sat and talked again,’ Frazier told the Times. ‘From that time on, Mickey kind of accepted me in as one of his buddies.’

In 1984, Frazier was dealt with outfielder Otis Nixon to Cleveland, who traded him four months later along with Rick Sutcliffe to the Chicago Cubs for a package that included slugger Joe Carter.

Frazier was dealt one last time in 1987, landing in Minnesota.

He would go on to pitch two scoreless innings in a World Series loss to the Cardinals, but the Twins would ultimately win the title in the title in seven games, and Frazier would never pitch in the majors again.

Frazier later returned to the World Series as an announcer with the Rockies in 2007, as the team fell to the Boston Red Sox.

His son, Parker, also had a professional baseball career, reaching Triple-A with the Rockies, White Sox and Diamondbacks organizations.

In 2011, Frazier described himself as fortunate to the New York Times: I wasn’t entitled to pitch in the 1981 World Series. I wasn’t entitled to pitch in the 1987 World Series. It was a privilege I had an opportunity to do that, and I still feel that every day.’

BREAKING NEWS: More misery for the Dragons as superstar Ben Hunt tells the rock-bottom NRL club he wants to LEAVE… with the captain not impressed by the arrival of new coach Shane Flanagan

Ben Hunt has dropped a bombshell by telling the Dragons he wants to leave the club, according to reports.

NRL sides are on red alert after the club captain reportedly informed chiefs of his stance, with St George sat rooted at the bottom of the ladder amid a terrible season which has seen Anthony Griffin lose his job.

And despite landing Shane Flanagan this week, Channel 9’s Danny Weidler  claims Hunt is not convinced of the direction of the club and wants a fresh start elsewhere.

Flanagan has since told Fox Sports that it is his belief that Hunt made the request weeks ago, prior to his appointment, and he wants him to stay at the club.

More to follow.

Financier George Soros has handed control of his $25billion empire to his son, Alex, who is vowing to use the family’s money to advocate for more liberal causes.

The 37-year-old heir told the Wall Street Journal that he will broaden his father’s woke aims,  but embrace different causes like voting and abortion rights as well as gender equality.

‘I’m more political,’ Alex said, when comparing himself to his father. He has already visited the White House 14 times in just over a year and met with big-name Democrats.

But the Soros’s nonprofit, Open Society Foundation, already directs about $1.5billion a year to groups that back human rights around the world and build democracies, while also funding various universities.

And the family’s super PAC, the Democracy PAC, has backed the election campaigns of woke district attorneys and other law enforcement officials seeking to reduce incarceration rates and perceived racial bias in the justice system.

He has claimed to be ‘more political’ than his notoriously woke father

In December, the OSF board elected Alex as its chairman, replacing his 92-year-old father.

He now directs political activity as the president of Soros’ super PAC and is the only family member on the investment committee overseeing Soros Fund Management, the group that oversees money for the foundation and the family.

Alex plans to use abut $125million of its $25billion reserve for the super PAC, while the majority of the money will be used for the OSF.

Speaking to the Wall Street Journal about his goals, Alex said he was concerned about the possibility of Donald Trump returning to the White House — suggesting the family will contribute greatly to Democrats in the 2024 presidential election.

‘As much as I would love to get money out of politics, as long as the other side is doing it, we will have to do it, too,’ he said.

But in contrast with many others on the left, Alex said he believes free speech on campus has become too restricted.

‘I have some differences with my generation in regard to free speech and other things,’ he said.

‘I grew up watching Bill Maher before bed, after all,’ he noted, referring to the TV personality who has spoken out against limitations on free speech on college campuses.

Since taking over his father’s firm, sources said, Alex attends to details his father would generally ignore.

He carries a small notebook to meetings, which he fills with notes to staffers.

‘He can drive folks in the foundation crazy because he’s so hands-on,’ said Anthony Romero, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union, which receives OSF funding.

Alex also frequently posts shots of himself with Democratic politicians including Nancy Pelosi, Barack Obama and Sen. Chuck Schumer – whom he called a ‘good friend.’

And recently-updated White House logs reveal he has visited at least 14 times since December 2021.

Last year Alex made two trips in April, three in September, four in October and four in December.

Another visit was logged in December 2021.

On December 1 2022, he met with then Chief of Staff Ron Klain’s advisor Nina Srivastava who worked on Biden’s presidential campaign.

The same day he was one of 330 people to attend a state dinner hosted by the President and first lady Jill Biden.

The event was to honor French leader Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte.

The day afterwards he met with both Advisor to the Counselor of President Mariana Adame and Deputy National Security Advisor Jonathan Finer.

But Alex had been considered a long shot to take over his family fortune, with many people close to the Soros’s believing his older half-brother, Jonathan, 52, would take over the reigns.

Jonathan is a lawyer with a finance background, who worked for a time at the foundation and stabilized the Soros hedge fund during turbulent times.

Alex, meanwhile, had for years been known for his flamboyant lifestyle, picking up models and befriending NBA legends.

Somewhere along the way, though, Alex gained his father’s trust — standing in for George on trips to the organization’s offices around the world.

Since 2018, he has pumped around $5.7 million into left-leaning political action committees and Democratic campaign coffers, according to Federal Election Commission filings.

His biggest contribution was $2 million in 2018 to Senate Majority PAC, which is tied to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.

‘He’s earned it,’ George said.

Rep. George Santos, the scandal-ridden Republican congressman who was caught lying about significant swaths of his backstory, signaled early on Saturday that he intends to serve out his term representing New York’s 3rd Congressional District.

Santos released a statement shortly after 2am on Saturday after he and the other members of the House of Representatives were sworn into the 118th Congress, following gridlock over the Speaker’s gavel.

The gay New York Republican has admitted to lying about having worked at Citigroup and Goldman Sachs, as well as the colleges he claimed to have attended. He is also accused of falsely claiming his grandparents were Jewish Holocaust survivors, and was married to a woman until shortly before he filed to run for Congress for the first time in 2020.

Both state and federal investigations have been opened into whether his questionable accounts led to any laws being broken.

But nevertheless, Santos said his work on Capitol Hill is ‘not about [his] personal life’ and called on Americans and fellow lawmakers to ‘put political differences aside.’

George Santos released a statement declaring he is ‘committed’ to serving his district shortly after being sworn into Congress early on Saturday morning

Later that same day, protesters lined up outside of Santos’ Queens, New York office to demand he be locked up and no longer represent their urban/suburban district.

‘I am committed to serving the people of New York’s 3rd Congressional District and finding solutions to solve tough problems,’ Santos said.

‘The work begins today, and I am determined to work with both Republicans and Democrats and support sound policy that will provide funding for local law enforcement, and reducing inflation.’

He continued, ‘Now is the time to put political differences aside, stop the finger pointing, and start delivering results.’

‘The work of Congress is not about my personal life, this is about delivering results for my constituents, finding bipartisan solutions, and reversing abysmal policies that have caused some of the worst inflation and crime in our nation’s history.’

Just hours after he was sworn into Congress, Santos’ Long Island constituents took to the streets of Queens to once again demand he stepped down from office.

They screamed: ‘Lock him up!’ – a line originally used by former President Donald Trump in reference to Hillary Clinton‘s email scandal.

‘It’s insane that he still has a job right now,’ one of the protesters told journalist Oliya Scootercaster. ‘He completely made up everything on his resume and he tried to excuse himself by saying everyone does that, but people like about lie about knowing excel when they only kind of know excel, you don’t lie about your family dying in the Holocaust or 9/11.

‘That is so immoral.’

Among the protesters were Robert Zimmerman, his Democratic opponent, Assemblyman Edward Braunstein, and activist Jody Kass Finkel.

‘My only focus and my only agenda is building a bipartisan coalition to remove George Santos from office. He is fraud and a danger to both our country and the citizens for our congressional district — if he name is actually George Santos,’ Zimmerman told the New York Post.

Protesters took turns speaking at the rally and many times they were caught chanting as a group: ‘We deserve better!’ and ‘Liar, liar, pants on fire!’

One protester accused Santos of ‘weaponizing’ the Jewish religion.

To trivialize the million of lives lost to the Holocaust for personal political gain is disgusting,’ the man said.

'It's insane that he still has a job right now,' one of the protesters said at the protest. 'He completely made up everything on his resume and he tried to excuse himself by saying everyone does that, but people like about lie about knowing excel when they only kind of know excel, you don't lie about your family dying in the Holocaust or 9/11'

Santos has revealed he lied about his resume and about having family dying in the Holocaust and in 9/11

One of the biggest lies he made was that his mother died during 9/11. Now his former roommate Gregory Morey-Parker, who rented a room from Santos in Jackson Heights dismissed Santos claims.

He said: ‘I’m fully confident that I would have known if Fatima was in 9/11. I am sure she would have brought [being in 9/11] up.’

Santos mother Fatima died in 2016 from cancer.

Morey-Parker lived with the family in Queens and said he grew quite close to Fatima. While living with them, Santos went by the name Anthony Devolder.

While living with the family, he said he experience Santos lying several times, including when he claimed his family owned a house on Nantucket and would often times say he bought a bottle of liquor for them to share when Fatima had actually bought it, he said, according to Patch

‘Santos had delusions of grandeur,’ he said. ‘Fatima would just roll her eyes and say: “Anthony and his stories.” His mother was just very not happy with him and his ridiculous lifestyle that he was portraying.’

George Maharis, star of Route 66 and Fantasy Island, dies at 94

Veteran actor George Maharis passed away on Wednesday at the age of 94.

He was primarily known for his work in classic television shows like Route 66 and Fantasy island.

Posting a tribute on Facebook, close friend Marc Bahan wrote: ‘George is well known for his stardom in Route 66, stage productions, singing, artist, and above all a great guy would do anything for anyone. My dear friend, you’ll be terribly missed.’

George’s biggest success came in 1960 when he landed the role of Buz Murdock on Route 66, a spinoff of the hit police procedural Naked City.

He was the sidekick to series mainstay Martin Milner, who passed away in 2015 and played the central role of Tod Stiles, a college grad who crisscrossed the United States in his Corvette convertible.

Route 66 followed the characters of Tod and Buz as they faced a variety of adventures on the road.

George’s character embodied a hip swagger in the vein of Jack Kerouac, but he eventually was forced to leave the series in season three due to an infectious case of hepatitis.

Speaking about his departure in 1963, Maharis said: ‘I have to protect my future. If I keep going at the present pace, I’m a fool. Even if you have $4,000,000 in the bank, you can’t buy another liver.’

Despite his brief time on Route 66, Maharis earned an Emmy nomination for his performance in 1962, and the show gradually lost popularity after he left.

There has been some dispute surrounding his exit, with producers of the show claiming that Maharis wanted to break his contract to make movies, but his biographer Karen Blocher cited homophobia.

She said: ‘The producers felt betrayed and duped when they learned of Maharis’s sexual orientation, and never trusted him again. In a less homophobic era, they might have communicated better, and worked things out.’

Like many closeted actors of his generation, George allegedly struggled with his sexuality in Hollywood.

He was arrested twice for having sex with men in restrooms – once in 1967 and again in 1974.

Moving on: After Route 66, Maharis embarked on a film career that was primarily concentrated in his heyday of the Sixties. He eventually returned to television in 1970 with a short-lived series called The Most Deadly Game; pictured in 1978

After Route 66, Maharis embarked on a film career, starring in everything from comedies (Quick, Before It Melts; 1964) to science fiction (The Satan Bug; 1965).

George’s string of films was primarily concentrated in his heyday of the Sixties, and he eventually returned to television in 1970 with a short-lived series called The Most Deadly Game.

He went on to blaze a trail by being one of the first celebrities to pose nude for Playgirl magazine in their July 1973 issue.

The Hollywood veteran also branched out into other passions, pursuing secondary careers as a musician and an impressionist painter.
