A gamer who chugged twelve energy drinks in 10 minutes has suffered awful consequences.

The 36-year-old man, who goes by ‘JS’, almost died and his pancreas began ‘digesting itself’ after he decided to down the caffeinated drinks in an effort to impress his colleagues.

A doctor who shares stories of previous patients on YouTube, Dr Bernard Hsu or ‘ChubbyEmu’, brought the case to attention

The video explained that when JS he was growing up in the 80s, he was always around video games – his parents liked playing them but he didn’t really have any friends.

So, trying to connect with people in his workplace, he thought it would ‘be funny’ to chug an excessive 12  freebie energy drinks within 10 minutes.

However, the stunt quickly took a turn for the worst –  after he had finished drinking, the man immediately felt ill.

The doctor recalls ‘The bottom of his chest was burning, he wasn’t sure if it was his stomach or his heart hurting.

He was short of breath and decided to take his mind off the pain by playing video games.

Though, ‘as the hours passed, he could feel his heart fluttering’ – but he was confused by why it was happening as caffiene ‘usually doesn’t have much of an effect on him’.

JS regularly exceed the recommended 400 milligrams a day of caffeine, pushing it to as high as nine hundred milligrams sometimes.

As his condition worsened, he threw up in his kitchen sink which only made him feel worse – he could supposedly ‘feel his heart beating in his eyes’.

He didn’t suspect it was the energy drinks and waited a day before calling an ambulance as he couldn’t eat or drink.

Upon arrival at the emergency room, the gamer threw up on a nurses shoes and was ‘too embarrassed’ to admit how many drinks he consumed.

He was eventually diagnosed with hyperglycemia, which is when the level of sugar in your blood gets too high. 

However, doctors were worried that something else could be wrong and after more tests, he was diagnosed with hyperlipasemia, also known as acute Pancreatitis.

This is a serious condition where the pancreas becomes inflamed over a short period of time. 

The man’s pancreas had started ‘digesting itself’ due too much fat in his blood, caused by the energy drinks – his liver and kidneys began to shut down and he developed a blood infection.

Thankfully after medical treatment and antibiotics, JS survived the ordeal. 

Though, it serves as a stark warning that could lead others to rethink their energy drink consumption.

Dr Hsu warned viewers ‘Most people know energy drinks can be dangerous when consumed in huge excess.

‘If you have one once in a while, and you’re young and healthy, it’s probably not a big deal. 

‘But if you start chugging multiple cans back to back, then bad things are probably going to happen.’

The man in the YouTube video is an actor dramatising the incident. 

Dr Gareth Nye, Programme Lead for Medical Science at Chester University, said the man is lucky that his heart didn’t stop immediately.

He said: ‘Energy drinks consumption has been increasing over the years, particularly in younger people. 

‘Well known side effects of energy drinks include tachycardia, anxiety, stomach irritation, and dehydration – mainly centred around the high caffeine content.

‘Caffeine is well known to alter the nervous system and cause dramatic changes to our hearts, with higher levels leading to a bigger impact. 

‘The man in question is extremely lucky his heart didn’t stop immediately after the ingestion of 10 cans of energy drink.

‘Energy drinks can however, on rare occasions lead to other organ damage with the pancreas being impacted in 35 people per 100,000 users in the United States.’

He added that, although remaining rare, it has the potential to be severe:

‘Acute pancreatitis is life threatening with death reporting in 50% of cases of severe illness.

‘In 80% of cases, acute pancreatitis is caused by alcohol consumption or gall stones but never the less the symptoms are severe abdominal pain and vomiting.’

A 2021 study found that a 21-year-old man from the UK who was suffering from unexplained kidney failure, had a history of energy drink consumption and two could be linked.

The study published in BMJ Case Reports states that ‘There was no significant past medical history and family history was not suspicious for cardiomyopathy or sudden cardiac death.’

Adding ‘however there was a history of regular ‘Energy drink’ drink consumption, specifically consuming an average of four 500 mL cans per day for approximately 2 years. 

‘Each can contains 160 mg of caffeine in addition to taurine and various other ingredients. 

‘Given the history of chronic energy drink consumption, lack of significant past medical or family history, cardiac imaging findings and improvement with ceasing intake, energy drink-induced cardiotoxicity was felt to be the most likely cause.’ 

Last year, a construction industry boss called for a building site ban on energy drinks as he believes they are damaging the health of young builders and making work slower.

In 2019 an English 21-year-old, Vinny Pyner, got hooked on energy drinks to help him stay awake for his college studies and ended up snapping his weakened teeth. 

Soon he was drinking up to 45 cans a week and his four front teeth eventually snapped off when he bit into an apple.

Euphoria star Angus Cloud was filmed laughing and smiling with friends on a night out, just three days before his shock death on Monday aged 25. 

The actor, who starred as the drug dealer Fezco O’Neill in the popular HBO series, was found dead at his family’s home in Oakland on Monday, with reports claiming he had struggled with ‘severe suicidal thoughts’ following the passing of his dad.

Angus had been surrounded by friends when he attended the album launch party of MacArthur Maze, a rap group, near his family home in California on Friday.

He was out with the band’s photographer, Josh Kennedy, who he had been a close friend of for years.

According to The Sun, his friends said he attended the party ‘for a few hours and did not show any sign of a personal struggle.’

Josh told the publication: ‘We grew up together. It’s been tough today. Friday, that was the last day I saw him, he came to our record release party.

‘He was happy, very happy to be home. He was in Ireland for a while, we spoke about his dad recently, he was sad about it, but he seemed to be doing okay.

‘I don’t even think he drank [at the event], I didn’t see him drinking, but I don’t know, I was working taking photographs.’

Josh told the site that the evening seemed to be normal and Angus was posing for photographs and was fooling around. 

The photographer admitted he ‘felt sick’ to learn of his friend’s passing and said it’s all ‘so new to him’.

He added that he feels ‘terrible’ for Angus’ mother Lisa Cloud Mclaughlin , who has lost her son and husband in a matter of weeks, 

Angus had paid tribute to his late father on Instagram in one of his final social media posts just two weeks before his tragic death yesterday.

Oakland PD and Fire Department responded to a 911 call made by Cloud’s mother, who reported a ‘possible overdose’ at around 11:30am yesterday, TMZ reported. 

She also said that Cloud did not have a pulse, with the actor pronounced dead on the scene when responders arrived.

Cloud’s father, Conor Hickey, passed away in his native Ireland in May. An obituary written by members of a rugby club with which he was associated claimed he died ‘after a short illness’, without providing further details. 

Lisa and Angus’ late father Conor, were both university professors. They were originally from Ireland, but they relocated to California in the 80s.

The couple shared three children, their eldest Angus, followed by twin daughters Molly and Fiona Hickey.

Angus, just last week returned stateside from Ireland where he laid his father to rest, with sources indicating he holed up with his family in Oakland to try and cope with the grief. 

One of Cloud’s final Instagram posts came on July 14, in which he shared a touching image of his smiling father in a red hoodie and red sweats, stating in the caption, ‘miss u breh.’

Angus’s family confirmed his death in a statement on Monday afternoon.

‘It is with the heaviest heart that we had to say goodbye to an incredible human today. As an artist, a friend, a brother and a son, Angus was special to all of us in so many ways.

‘Last week he buried his father and intensely struggled with this loss. The only comfort we have is knowing Angus is now reunited with his dad, who was his best friend,’ the statement continued. 

‘Angus was open about his battle with mental health and we hope that his passing can be a reminder to others that they are not alone and should not fight this on their own in silence.

‘We hope the world remembers him for his humor, laughter and love for everyone. We ask for privacy at this time as we are still processing this devastating loss,’ the statement concluded. 

Tributes quickly flooded in for the actor from Euphoria producers, castmates and fellow actors. 

HBO said in a statement: ‘We are incredibly saddened to learn of the passing of Angus Cloud.

‘He was immensely talented and a beloved part of the HBO and Euphoria family. 

‘We extend our deepest condolences to his friends and family during this difficult time.’

Cloud was one of the breakout stars of Euphoria, appearing in both series of the Sam Levinson-directed drama alongside Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney and Jacob Elordi.

He was most often in scenes alongside his partner in crime Ashtray, played by Javon Walton.

Sharing a picture of the pair on Instagram, Walton wrote: ‘Rest easy brother’ and later ‘forever family.’

Meanwhile, Kathrine Narducci, who played Cloud’s on-screen grandmother Marie O’Neill in Euphoria, described him as a ‘gentle beautiful soul’ who ‘exited to soon’ on Twitter.

Storm Reid, who plays Zendaya’s on-screen younger sister Gia Bennett, shared a clip of Cloud laughing on the show to her Instagram Story, captioning it: ‘The tears just won’t stop.’

Euphoria director Levinson said: ‘There was no-one quite like Angus. He was too special, too talented and way too young to leave us so soon.

‘He also struggled, like many of us, with addiction and depression. I hope he knew how many hearts he touched.

‘I loved him. I always will. Rest in peace and God Bless his family.’

Rapper Drake, a producer of Euphoria, shared a photo of Angus from March of 2022 at the Revolve Social Club in LA, writing, ‘Good soul,’ and adding a tearful emoji and a dove.

Kerry Washington shared a photo of Cloud at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party from March 2022, writing, ‘You will be deeply missed’ and ‘Rest in Power.’

Over on Threads, Kerry also urged her followers to reach out for help if needed in the wake of Angus’ death. ‘To whoever needs to hear this. You are not alone,’ she wrote, while sharing a link to 988lifeline.org. 

Sydney Martin, the model who was rumored to be in an on–off relationship with Cloud, also shared what appeared to be a brief tribute to Cloud.

The model, who briefly appeared on a second-season episode of Euphoria, shared a somber message in her Instagram Stories after the news broke.

However, she didn’t reference the late actor, or even include any text at all.

Instead, Martin shared a black background to her Instagram Stories and and placed a set of seven red broken-hearted emojis in a row.

Sydney’s post went live just minutes after Cloud was reported to have died.

Around the time that she shared her broken hearts, she also deleted some more upbeat Instagram Stories posts, according to In Touch. 

Martin was featured in the season two premiere of Euphoria, titled Trying To Get To Heaven Before They Close The Door.

She was credited in the episode simply as ‘bikini girl,’ according to her IMDb page.

Her other acting work includes an uncredited role as a restaurant patron on the FX series Snowfall, as well as another uncredited character simply described as Hot Pocket on the Netflix coming-of-age comedy Never Have I Ever. 

The gossip blog DeuxMoi had previously claimed via anonymous reports that Cloud and Martin were dating. 

Although they had not confirmed their relationship, Sydney shared mirror selfies of herself and Angus beaming while she put a hand around his neck on January 7, 2022, which she captioned, ‘Euphoria is out in 2 days.’

One photo also showed her giving her rumored boyfriend a sweet kiss on the cheek. 

Months before Cloud’s death yesterday, a man who claims to have worked for the actor said he was struggling in his battle with addiction after completing rehab two years ago.

The Twitter thread from a man named Diomi Cordero came in April, Page Six reported, more than three months before Cloud’s passing.

Cordero said he initially crossed paths at a rehab clinic where Cloud was being treated and that he reconvened with the actor July 4, 2021, when Cloud hosted a party at his house, Page Six reported.

Cordero said Cloud was freshly out of rehab at the time, but exhibited signs of being under the influence of drugs.

Cloud was born and raised in Oakland, California, attending the School of Production Design at the Oakland School for the Arts alongside her future castmate Zendaya.

He was discovered by Euphoria casting director Jennifer Venditti while working as a waiter in Brooklyn, which lead to him making his acting debut on the HBO series as the drug dealer Fezco.

He would go on to star in movies such as North Hollywood with Vince Vaughn and Miranda Cosgrove and The Line with Alex Wolff and Halle Bailey, with three more films either filming or in post-production.

Thoughts are with Angus’s mother Lisa who has lost her husband and son in just weeks of one another. 

After losing her husband in May, Lisa wrote: ‘Thanks to all of you for your messages about Conor’s passing.

‘He would have been so honored that so many young people came to express how much they appreciated their support from him.

‘Our home welcomed all our kids “homies”.’

Around 100 people turned up to pay tribute to Conor and she said: ‘My fella lived large and loud! His cancer moved quickly which was devastating to all who loved him, but there is comfort in the fact that his pain wasn’t prolonged.

‘He is the love of my life. He was an incredible father to his three children, and a great support to many many others as well.’

Lisa Kudrow missed out on reuniting with her Friends co-stars Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox as she headed out for dinner with her husband Michel Stern in Beverly Hills on Thursday. 

The actress, 59, who played Phoebe Buffay in the hit sitcom, enjoyed a meal at legendary seafood restaurant Avra, while over in Malibu, Courteney rang in her 59th birthday. 

Courteney marked her special day with a low-key affair at the Californian private members club, surrounded by her close pals, including best pal Jen.

The mouthwatering delicacies are then ‘charcoal grilled with olive oil, lemon, sea salt, saffron, and mustard’, while sashimi is also on offer.

Lisa had previously stated she’s a million miles apart from her friends character Phoebe.

Phoebe was a devout vegetarian who refused to eat ‘anything with a face’, but it seems that, in real life, she and her husband are partial to a seafood snack. 

Despite swearing off meat, however, Friends fans might remember that Phoebe struggled to control her cravings for beef lasagne – especially when pregnant. 

Meanwhile, the real-life Lisa revealed she has been mocked for her unusual taste for McVitie’s chocolate biscuits – her ‘favourite breakfast’.

‘I got made fun of once – I was at a craft service table and I said, “Oh, they’ve got tea. Oh, I should bring my digestive biscuits!”‘ she joked in an interview with CNN.

Lisa recently revealed her feelings about reuniting with her former Friends castmates for a HBO Max special, describing the experience as ‘thrilling’ and ’emotional’.

She also disclosed that she’d initially wanted to play Rachel instead of her own character, but was rapidly rebuffed.

‘When I first read the script, and was going to be auditioning for Phoebe, I saw [the pages for] Rachel, and just went, “Oh, that’s like a Long Island JAP,”‘ she told E! News.
