Welcome to the cafe of the future, where the waiting staff are all robots.

And the location? No surprises there – Tokyo.

It’s called the Dawn Avatar Robot Café and travel content creator Maz Green dropped in for a juice and a green tea, with the short video she made of the visit garnering tens of thousands of views on Instagram.

Maz, who posts eye-catching photos and videos to Instagram and TikTok to hundreds of thousands of followers using the handle ‘Where To Find Me‘, explained to MailOnline Travel that all the food and drinks are served by robots – and that they’re controlled remotely ‘by people with medical or physical limitations who cannot come into work but want to stay connected to society’.

Maz, who is half Japanese though born and raised in London, was told there are 70 staff members who work as robot pilots.

Maz explained to MailOnline Travel that all the food and drinks are served by robots – and that they’re controlled remotely ‘by people with medical or physical limitations who cannot come into work but want to stay connected to society’

Inside, she saw ‘about 10 avatar robot waiters, one barista robot, one robot behind the bar, and a few more tiny robots dotted around the cafe’.

Plus, humans were assisting with issues and helping customers place their orders, and making drinks and meals.

The robots, though, serve everything and customers can interact with them.

Maz, 31, said: ‘The robots can all speak. Each avatar features a camera on the robot’s forehead, a microphone and speaker, so that the pilots can communicate with customers as if they were standing right in front of them.

‘The robots can perform simple movements, such as nodding their head or raising their hand, all through eye-tracking technology.

‘I interacted with so many of them. A robot greeted me at the entrance and explained how the cafe works, then I spoke to my robot waiter and with the mini robots by the bar.

‘Because I can speak Japanese, I was able to learn about the lives of many of the pilots.

‘It was fascinating to hear their stories and their appreciation for the job, which allows them to feel less isolated and more social during their week.

‘They are all lovely and are very keen to converse with their tables in English.

‘Most of the robots have iPads stationed beside them, so that you can see a photo of the person piloting the robot and where in the world they’re logging in from.’

And what was the service like?

Maz revealed that as you enter the cafe, which is in the Nihonbashi Honcho area of Tokyo, you make your order and pay on an iPad before being assigned to a table.

Her juice and green tea ‘came within minutes’ and none of the robots made a mistake.

Did the robots demand a tip?

Maz said: ‘No, because in Japan, it’s not the custom to tip. If you try, they’ll deny it and sometimes even chase you out of the restaurant to return your money.’

And what was Maz’s overall impression?

‘I loved it,’ she said. ‘It was pricier than your average cafe, but worthwhile knowing that you’re supporting a great initiative that provides opportunities for people with mobility or isolation issues.

‘It was very futuristic and as a result a quintessential Tokyo experience that I highly recommend.’

The rise of weight-loss drugs isn’t only shrinking Americans’ waistlines, it could also shrink food corporations’ bottom lines.

Some experts predict junk food companies – already battling a rise in health conscious customers – could face a tobacco-like demise due to drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy, which reduce cravings and make people feel full longer.

Big banks, such as Morgan Stanley, predict 24 million people, or seven percent of the US population, will be taking weight-loss drugs by 2035.

An analysis by the bank also predicts patients prescribed the drugs will consume one-quarter of the candy, confectionary and other junk food they did before – slashing billions of dollars from annual revenue.

And corporations are already spooked. A recent analysis found executives at junk food companies are increasingly talking about the medications with investors.

A survey conducted by Morgan Stanley found that 73 percent of people ate less confectionary food, which includes sugary candy, chocolate and some baked goods.

Like snack-makers, major players in the fast food industry, such as McDonald’s, Burger King and Yum Brands, which owns KFC and Taco Bell, could also see falling demand

Morgan Stanley’s food analyst Pamela Kaufman said in a report: ‘The food, beverage and restaurant industries could see softer demand, particularly for unhealthier foods and high-fat, sweet and salty options.’

The new class of medications can lead to a 20 to 30 percent reduction in daily calories, and people tend to eat less high-sugar and high-fat foods, meaning the makers of chips, cookies and baked goods could take a hit, with banks predicting a drop in consumption by as much as three percent through 2035.

While any negative impacts are likely to be gradual, investors and c-suite executives have already begun to worry.

Reuters’ Breakingviews scoured the transcripts of corporations’ presentations, events and earnings calls, which is a conference between the management of a company, financial analysts, media and investors.

It found in 2022, there were 18 mentions of Wegovy, Ozempic and Mounjaro. So far in 2023, at least one of these drugs was mentioned in calls 71 times.

Morgan Stanley’s research found 73 percent of people on the weight loss drugs ate less confectionary food, which includes sugary candy, chocolate and some baked goods.

Seventy percent of people consumed fewer sugary drinks; 69 percent ate less cookies; and 67 percent reached for fewer salty snacks.

These drastic reductions could spell trouble for the mega-producers of these types of food, including Cadbury and Oreo producer Mondelez International, Nestle, which makes Hot Pockets and Häagen-Dazs, and Kraft Heinz, which produces products like Jell-O and Kraft Mac and Cheese.

These companies dominate the global market for snacks, which is currently valued at half a trillion dollars, and they should brace for falling demand.

The hospitality industry is also taking a hit. The same survey found 77 percent of people on weight-loss drugs took fewer trips to fast-food establishments and 74 percent ate at pizzerias less.

Like snack-makers, major players in the fast food industry, such as McDonald’s, Burger King and Yum Brands, which owns KFC and Taco Bell, could see falling demand, with analysts forecasting a drop in sales between one to two percent by 2035.

While two percent may not seem like a lot, it equates to nearly $7 billion.

Alcohol will also take a hit from the rise in weight-loss prescriptions. Two-thirds of Americans on these medications report consuming less alcohol and nearly one-quarter stopped drinking alcohol altogether.

Banking analysts projected US-focused alcohol companies face the highest risk and can expect a two percent decline in consumption by 2035.

The implications of weight-loss drug approval and popularity extends beyond the food and beverage industries.

Financial analysts also predict companies that make products to treat conditions stemming from obesity could also take a hit.

Companies that manufacture products for sleep apnea, a condition in which sufferers intermittently stop breathing while asleep, will likely see a reduction in value because approximately 70 percent of sufferers are obese.

Additionally, companies that sell joint replacements should also expect their valuations to decline.

And rival weight-loss businesses, such as WW International, formerly known as Weight Watchers, has seen its shares plummet by about 70 percent since Wegovy was approved in June 2021. Jenny Craig, a similar business, shut down in May after more than 40 years because of growing competition from weight-loss drugs.

Insiders reveal the food King Charles has BANNED from French state visit banquet – and the reasons why (but mushrooms are on the menu because they remind him of Queen Elizabeth II)

  • Charles provided a strict list of culinary demands for meal at Palace of Versailles

Three of the finest foie gras chefs in France will be banned from using the fattened duck delicacy when they cook for King Charles and Queen Camilla at a lavish banquet tonight.

Charles is said to have provided a strict list of culinary demands for the meal at the Palace of Versailles.

Asparagus – which was on the menu in March before the royal trip was postponed because of widespread rioting across France – has also been ruled out, because it is no longer in season.

But there will be plenty of mushrooms, which are a favourite of both Charles and Camille, as they ‘remind them of the late Queen, Elizabeth II’, according to a French government source.

Michelin-starred kitchen maestros Yannick Alléno, Anne-Sophie Pic and Pierre Hermé have finalised a menu which was sent to London for approval.

All are well known for using foie gras in their cooking, with pastry chef Mr Hermé even using it in his chocolate macaroons.

But the source said: ‘The King has banned foie gras from his residences in Britain, so there was no possibility of him eating it in France.

‘He doesn’t want asparagus that is out of season either, because shipping it in is environmentally damaging, but there will be a mushroom gratin, which was a favourite of Queen Elizabeth.

‘We understand that Charles was out foraging for mushrooms just before his mother’s death in Scotland’.

Foie gras is considered particularly cruel because it is made by force feeding ducks or geese until their livers become swollen.

(Cooked by Yannick Alléno)

Cheese: 30-month-old Comté, Stichelton English blue

Desert: Isfahan Persian macaroon

(Pierre Hermé’s signature pudding inspired by the ancient city in Iran, and containing rose water, raspberries, and lychees)

Wines costing more than £400 a bottle will also be on the menu at Versailles.

Pol Roger cuvée Winston Churchill 2013 Champagne is listed at over £500 a magnum. The Bâtard Montrachet grand cru 2018 stands at over £430, and the Château Mouton Rothschild 2004 at more than £400.

Luxuries being prepared for the King which infuriated anti-government protesters in France back in March also included bottles of wine worth hundreds of pounds each.

All of the food will be eaten in the fabled Hall of Mirrors at Versailles, where the late Queen was received during her first state visit to France in 1957.

Some 150 guests have been invited, including British actresses Charlotte Rampling and Kristin Scott Thomas as well as French star Catherine Deneuve.

Hilton Food shares soar as FTSE 250 firm agrees supply deal with Walmart

  • Hilton revealed it would build a new manufacturing plant in Eastern Canada
  • Walmart is one of Canada’s largest employers and serves 1.5m people per day

Hilton Food Group shares soared on Thursday after the FTSE 250 group signed a deal with Walmart to supply the retail giant’s Canadian hypermarket stores.

The food packaging business revealed it would build a new manufacturing plant in Eastern Canada that will deliver various meat products, beginning with beef, lamb, pork and seafood, to Walmart ‘supercentres’.

A newly-created subsidiary of Hilton is set to finance construction of the packing facilities, with debt used for funding investment in plant and equipment.

It hopes to commence production by 2026, with its first North American factory offering robotised store order picking into Walmart’s distribution outlets.

The Huntingdon-based firm believes the tie-up ‘represents a significant step forward’ for both groups in satisfying the growing demand in Canada for ‘high-quality, good value and increasingly sustainable protein products’.

Walmart is one of Canada’s largest employers and serves 1.5 million customers per day across more than 400 outlets.

Following the trading update, Hilton Food Group shares jumped 8 per cent to £7.84 on Thursday lunchtime, making them the second-best performer on the FTSE 250 Index behind Trainline.

Steve Murrells, chief executive of Hilton, said the agreement was ‘another sign of the strength of our customer offer, as well as growing consumer demand for high quality, affordable, protein products, which we can deliver through our scale, international experience, and supply chain expertise’.

He added: ‘Hilton Foods and Walmart share the same high standards of sustainability, and we are looking forward to providing Walmart with the service and range of quality products for which Hilton Foods is known.’

Murrells, the former Co-Operative Group boss, took over at Hilton in July following the departure of Philip Heffer, who had been in charge for five years and with the firm for almost three decades.

The company’s new supply deal comes a week after it released half-year results showing sales rose by 5.2 per cent for £2.1billion for the 28 weeks ending 16 July.

Revenue growth reflected rising volumes and raw material prices and a full-trading period for Foppen, a smoked salmon producer bought by Hilton in March 2022.

Trading was further uplifted by a continued strong performance from its core meat category and a rebound in seafood demand.

Yet adjusted pre-tax profits slumped by 22.8 per cent to £26.8million due to higher interest payments and cost inflation, which particularly impacted Dalco, a vegan and vegetarian food manufacturer in the Netherlands.

Founded in 1994, Hilton supplies food to retailers across 19 countries, including supermarket chains Tesco, Morrisons and Waitrose, as well as pub chain Mitchells & Butlers and cruise shipping firm Carnival.

  • Dogs more likely to find food if they see it being hidden, than on smell alone

Their powerful noses are notorious for sniffing out treats.

But dogs are more likely to find food if they see it being hidden by a person rather than relying on scent alone, research suggests.

A team from the University of Veterinary Medicine in Vienna conducted a study with eight dogs.

They tested the ability of each animal to find up to eight caches of food – either after seeing a human hiding them or without the dog witnessing the hiding.

The scientists discovered dogs found more of the food caches – and more quickly with less distance travelled between each – if they had seen the food being hidden.

Their powerful noses are notorious for sniffing out treats. But dogs are more likely to find food if they see it being hidden by a person rather than relying on scent alone, research suggests (stock image)

This suggests they did not just use scent to find the food, the team said.

And it provides support for the idea that dogs are capable of observational spatial memory – the ability to remember where another individual has hidden food and pilfer it.

The researchers carried out the same study using wolves – the wild ancestor of modern dogs – with similar results.

They said: ‘While domestication probably affected dogs’ willingness to adjust to humans, the results of the current study collaborate previous findings suggesting that cognitive abilities do not differ very much between dogs and wolves.’

Separate research has found dogs can remember the location of a food item the day after it was hidden.

And while many dog owners enjoy treating their pet to a tasty snack, vets estimate that almost half of dogs in the UK are now overweight.

The 2023 welfare report from the People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals revealed a third of dog owners don’t know how much their pet weighs, and 44 per cent don’t know how much it should ideally weigh.

Vets have warned treats should only make up 10 per cent of dogs’ daily calories.

The findings of the current study were published in the journal Plos One.

It’s set to be one of the hottest days of the year, with the mercury expected to hit 33C (91F) in parts of the UK today.

But while many welcome the six-day heatwave, which began yesterday and is set to run until Sunday night, others struggle to cope with the extreme weather.

Drinking plenty of water, staying in the shade and avoiding exercise and direct sunlight at the hottest points of the day are common tips to avoid overheating.

Here, MailOnline shares expert-backed ways to stay cool during the hot weather.

It is set to be one of the hottest days of the year. And without air conditioning it can be hard to stay cool

It is set to be one of the hottest days of the year. And without air conditioning it can be hard to stay cool

Avoid drinking coffee

Coffee may provide a much-needed boost of energy, but it’s not the best drink during hot weather.

The pick me up suppress the hormone ADH, which usually causes the kidneys to retain water when your body is low on stores.

This causes you to urinate more frequently than normal, resulting in dehydration.

So experts say it’s best to stick to water in hot weather.

Instead of drinking caffeine and alcohol people should  drink water. Feeling thirsty, dark yellow pee, feeling dizzy and having sunken eyes are all signs of dehydration in children and adults, according to the NHS

Instead of drinking caffeine and alcohol people should  drink water. Feeling thirsty, dark yellow pee, feeling dizzy and having sunken eyes are all signs of dehydration in children and adults, according to the NHS

Dehydration — when the body loses more fluids than it takes in — can trigger splitting headaches, dizziness and tiredness.

It can even result in hospitalisation if it becomes severe — causing a weak or rapid pulse, fits or low levels of consciousness.

Feeling thirsty, dark yellow pee, feeling dizzy and having sunken eyes are all signs of dehydration in children and adults, according to the NHS.

The NHS advises people to drink caffeine in moderation during a heatwave. It suggests checking the label for drinks that are high in caffeine.

However, some experts have questioned coffee’s dehydrating effect, suggesting the loss of fluids it causes is replaced by the drink itself.

Eat spicy food

While a cooling ice cream may be most appetising in hot weather, tucking into a spicy curry may actually be the best way to cool down.

That’s because spicy food raises the body’s internal temperature, mirroring the weather, and causes it to sweat.

The active chemical in chili peppers, called capsaicin, can trigger the body to sweat and induce thermogenesis — the process by which cells convert energy into heat.

Spicy food raises your internal body temperature, mirroring that of the weather and causes you to sweat

Spicy food raises your internal body temperature, mirroring that of the weather and causes you to sweat

US researchers say this chemical stimulates a receptor found in sensory neurons, creating the sensation of heat and subsequent reactions like redness and sweating.

The body’s heat causes sweat to evaporate, which has a long-lasting cooling effect.

For comparison, downing a cold drink or having an ice cream raises the body’s temperature in response to being cold, leaving people feeling warmer.

Take a warm bath before bed

Staying cool when trying to sleep can be one of the biggest struggles during spells of hot weather.

And while it may seem, counterintuitive, running a hot bath could do the trick.

Sleep and core body temperature are both controlled by the brain’s circadian clock, which drives 24-hour patterns of sleep and wakefulness.

At night, body temperature drops by about 2C. This helps with conserving energy and directing energy to organs that need it.

But this cycle can be disrupted during periods of hot weather, potentially causing a miserable night’s sleep.

Researchers at the University of Texas found that taking a warm bath before going to bed will help your body cool down. This method works best when taking a warm bath or shower an hour or two before going to bed for a duration of 10 minutes

Researchers at the University of Texas found that taking a warm bath before going to bed will help your body cool down. This method works best when taking a warm bath or shower an hour or two before going to bed for a duration of 10 minutes

However, the science says hot baths can help you cool down rapidly.

Researchers at the University of Texas found that taking a warm bath before going to bed will help your body cool down.

That’s because the warm water causes the blood vessels in the surface of the skin to dilate, encouraging blood to flow from the internal core of the body to the hands and feet.

So, once you get out the bath, this causes the body to cool down rapidly.

This method works best when taking a 10-minute warm bath or shower an hour or two before going to bed, according to the report published in Sleep Medical Reviews Journal in 2019.

Put your bedding in the freezer

Fresh, cool sheets are the perfect way to get a good night’s sleep after spending the day in the sun.

And, though it may sound strange, putting bedding in the freezer can work wonders for lowering body temperature before bed.

Freezing your bedding allow the body's temperature to drop by the required 2C needed for good sleep. But remember to put your bedding in a plastic bag to prevent dirty bedding contaminating your food

Freezing your bedding allow the body’s temperature to drop by the required 2C needed for good sleep. But remember to put your bedding in a plastic bag to prevent dirty bedding contaminating your food

As with the hot bath trick before bed, relaxing into cool sheets helps allow the body’s temperature to drop by the required 2C needed for good sleep.

But rather than causing your body to radiate heat away, this directly cools you from the outside in, preventing your internal temperature jumping back up as it readjusts to the outside.

Dr Mike Farquhar, a consultant in sleep medicine at Evelina London Children’s Hospital, said putting bedding in the freezer for a couple of minutes at night will help you stay cool throughout your sleep.

However, remember to put your bedding in a plastic bag to prevent dirty bedding contaminating your food or vice versa.

EU health chiefs have warned studies on ultra-processed foods claiming they can be seriously damaging your health, should be ‘considered with caution’.

There are ‘uncertainties’ over the data in the studies and the ‘usefulness’ of the term ultra-processed foods, the EU-funded European Food Information Council said.

The warning was issued following two studies published this week linking ultra-processed foods, which are those containing preservatives, sweeteners and artificial colours, to an increased risk of heart attacks and strokes.

But British dieticians said the term ultra-processed is being ‘demonised’, ‘overused’ and ‘not explained well’, causing unnecessary confusion and worry among members of the public.

They told MailOnline they want UK health chiefs to issue a similar clarification to soothe public fears.

Experts warned that the UK faces a 'tidal wave of harm' from the over-consumption of ultra-processed food, after two studies suggested they raise the risk of heart attacks and strokes, but dietitians argue this classification is causing confusion

Experts warned that the UK faces a ‘tidal wave of harm’ from the over-consumption of ultra-processed food, after two studies suggested they raise the risk of heart attacks and strokes, but dietitians argue this classification is causing confusion

One, Dr Duane Mellor, said the recent hyper-focus on ultra-processed food (UPFs) was unhelpful and British health authorities should step-in to clear the confusion.

‘They need to explain carefully and clearly that the term Ultra Processed Foods, is getting a lot of attention at the minute, but it is possibly being overused, and not explained well,’ he said.

While he acknowledged the food industry needed to use processing methods that produced healthier food, the panic over UPFs wasn’t helping.

‘We need a food system which supports our health, but by getting consumers to worry or not worry about UPF is not tackling that issue,’ he said.

He added that avoiding ultra-processed foods is not helpful for some people, for example, those with poor appetite or illness who need to consume nutritional supplements while they recover.

Instead, he suggested providing advice on what we should be eating more of such as fruit, vegetables, nuts and seeds which have been consistently shown to be associated with a decreased risk of heart disease.

Nutritionists split food into three groups based on the amount of processing they have gone through. Minimally processed foods, like apples, are usually exactly how they appear in nature. Processed foods, like apple sauce, have gone through at least one level of processing that has changed their original form. In contrast, ultra-processed foods like apple jelly babies, have gone through multiple levels of processing and are usually full of extra fats, colours and preservatives

Dr Mellor also stressed that we need to understand what we are eating so we ‘don’t falsely demonise all food ingredients’.

For example, although he admitted sweeteners may have ‘a modest effect on how are bodies work’, they can be used as a way of reducing sugar intake, which can help people avoid problems like obesity and diabetes.

Other chemicals used in ultra-processed foods such as emulsifiers can change gut health.

Dr Mellor said: ‘Emulsifiers are a wide range of compounds from synthetic compounds such as polysorbate-80 which has been linked to alterations in gut health through to lecithin which contains choline which has been shown in some circumstances to be beneficial to health.

‘We need an open conversation about additives and understand that about these effects.’

Another expert, Professor Gunter Kuhnle, does not think we need a warning against ultra-processed foods, instead he wants to see more research.

The food scientist, based at Reading University, said there is currently no reason to worry people over ultra-processed food.

He explained that some ultra-processed foods such as soft drinks are associated with increased risks, but with other foods such as massed produced wholegrain bread, it shows a reduced risk for some diseases.

He said: ‘Such a warning would achieve little but create uncertainty among consumers – there is already confusion about the distinction between processed and ultra-processed foods.

‘The additives have been assessed by many different agencies and found to be safe in the amount consumed.

‘If there are data that suggest otherwise and have not been reviewed, they should be sent to EFSA and FSA so they can assess them.’

However, some doctors are calling for warning labels to be slapped on ultra-processed foods due to the dangers it poses to our health.

Dr Chris van Tulleken told MailOnline the new studies added weight to calls for a warning label system in the UK to ward people away from eating them.

Living a Mediterranean lifestyle with good food, friends and enough rest may cut your odds of premature death by 29 percent.

It has long been known that a Mediterranean diet is healthy because of its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, but a new study suggests Britons can live longer by also copying other habits of people in countries such as Italy and Spain.

Researchers questioned 110,799 people in the UK, aged 40 to 75, about their diet and lifestyle.

A Mediterranean lifestyle was defined as getting six to eight hours of sleep, socialising with friends and family, not sitting around for too long, exercising, doing sports with other people and taking naps.

The Mediterranean diet included lots of fruit, vegetables, seafood and nuts, and had a limited salt intake.

People received a score out of 25 for how much they followed a Mediterranean way of life.

The study, published in the journal Mayo Clinic Proceedings, then compared these scores among people who died, after tracking their medical records for several years.

Those with the most Mediterranean lifestyle were 29 per cent less likely to die than those with the least Mediterranean way of life, and 28 per cent less likely to die of cancer.

They were also less likely to die of cardiovascular disease.

The study’s senior author, Dr Mercedes Sotos Prieto, from the Autonomous University of Madrid and Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, said: ‘This suggests that it’s possible for non-Mediterranean populations to adopt the Mediterranean diet using locally available products and adopt the overall lifestyle.’

Sadly for fans of a siesta, naps alone were not linked to lower odds of dying. This may be because people who nap in the UK often do so because they are sleep-deprived or in ill health.

Questions asked in the study included whether people socialised and if they drank healthy tea and coffee, avoided sugary drinks, limited snacks and preferred wholegrain foods.

Fury as Harvard University encourages students to apply for food stamps from government despite $53bn endowment

  • At an event earlier this year hosted by the university’s student health center, graduate students were encouraged to sign up for food stamps
  • The graduate school union at the school has gone on strike twice in recent years over livable wage disputes

An event at Harvard University encouraged some graduate students to apply for food stamps, despite the school’s $53billion endowment.

Earlier this year, Harvard University Health Services reminded grad students that they could fuel their bodies and stock their pantries by using government assistance to pay for groceries.

‘Did you know that Grad Students may qualify to receive assistance paying for food & groceries?’ read a flier for the event.

Harvard’s endowment makes it the richest university in the world, a fact that sparked outrage among community members who argued that paying graduate students a livable food stipend would barely even register in the school’s massive budget.

Graduate students are also paid a $40,000 yearly wage by the university.

‘Harvard’s endowment is over $50 billion. Undergraduate tuition is over $55k a year. Yet the grad students who do most of the teaching, advising, and mentoring at Harvard are so underpaid that they’re eligible for food stamps,’ wrote one Harvard student on Twitter.

Harvard has some 21,766 graduate students. If the university were to sacrifice 1/50th of its $53.2billion endowment, it could, in theory, pay each student $48,883 – a nearly $9,000 increase over their current stipends of $40,0000.

The Harvard Graduate Student Union has gone on strike to advocate for higher wages – once in 2019 and again in 2021.

The more recent strike, which was a three-day work stoppage, amounted to the union vowing to strike again if the school did not agree to its bargaining terms.

The school then forced the strikers to sign an agreement allowing Harvard to retain salary funds in an amount equal to the time students withheld labor.

A student at the time wrote on Twitter: ‘@Harvard’s $53B dollar endowment is larger than the GDP of dozens of countries, but it’s trying to force underpaid student workers to repay three days of wages from last week’s strike.’

Harvard’s current yearly grad student wage is arguably not enough to live on in  Cambridge, Massachusetts, where the average rent is $3,477.

Graduate students at the University of Michigan, Rutgers and MIT also recently launched similar protests against their institutions.

Famously, Harvard added $10billion to its endowment during one year of the COVID-19 pandemic. The same year, 2021, ended with a $283million operational surplus.

Food stamps, or what the government calls the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, is a service intended for low-income people and families. It helps those living in poverty afford basic food items.

According to Pew Research, more than 41million Americans currently use food stamps.

The Voice Australia coach Jason Derulo slams extremely popular Aussie food staple

Jason Derulo has been living in Sydney, Australia as he films the local edition of The Voice

While the American singer has enjoyed some of the local delicacies, there is one he is very much not a fan of.

During Sunday’s episode of The Voice Australia, the 33-year-old was encouraged to try popular local toast spread Vegemite.

With his eyes closed and wearing an Outback cork hat, Jason was fed Aussie foods by his fellow judges Rita Ora, Jessica Mauboy and Guy Sebastian.

The sharp, salty yeast concoction is a favourite with many Australians but Jason was horrified.

‘Woah,’ he said after taking a sniff of the spread, with his co-star Rita assuring him, ‘It’s not bad at all’.

Jason recoiled as the Vegemite spread all over his teeth, clearly disliking the taste.

‘Not gonna lie, that Vegemite was not it. I was like, “Oh damn, they just fed me s**t on live television,”‘ he said.

Jason was more impressed by Arnott’s Tim Tam chocolate biscuits, which he called, ‘unbelievable’ and said he ‘loved’.

It comes after the star revealed that there is no competition when it comes to whether the coffee is better Down Under or in the USA.

‘I think so, I really do,’ he said to The Daily Telegraph when asked if Australia has better coffee than his homeland.

Jason has been spending time in Sydney during filming and told the publication that he’s enjoying his stay.

‘I got to sink my teeth into a routine and the culture of Australia,’ he explained.

‘I’ve always really loved Australia, but this is the first time where I got to spend some time there so being able to go to a gym that I like going to, and having favourite restaurants, that’s really cool.’
