Drew Bowser hit a routine fly that Texas outfielders couldn’t find in the twilight sky, allowing Alberto Rios to score the game-winning run from second, and Stanford edged the Longhorns 7-6 on Monday night to advance to its third straight College World Series.

Rios was nearly thrown out at second for the third out of the ninth after his long fly to left hit off the wall.

Texas almost got out of the inning again when Bowser hit a high fly, but it dropped about 15 feet from outfielder Dylan Campbell.

Stanford (44-18) will play top-seeded Wake Forest on Saturday in the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska.

Bowser made it 2-0 in the second with his third home run in three games.

Stanford scored three runs with two outs in the fourth for a 6-3 lead. Carter Graham followed an intentional walk with an RBI single to break a tie and Braden Montgomery added a two-run single for a three-run lead.

Texas (42-22) was also seeking its third consecutive appearance in the College World Series.

Campbell tied it at 6-all in the eighth with a single and then turned a double play on a long throw from right field to retire Saborn Campbell at third.

The other matchups in the College World Series – beginning this Friday – are as follows: Oral Roberts v. TCU; No. 7 Virginia v. No. 2 Florida; Tennessee v. No. 5 LSU.

Holidaymakers will be able to fly from London to Sydney in just two hours within ten years – but they’ll have to go via space

Holidaymakers will be able to fly from London to Sydney in as little as two hours within ten years – but they will have to go through space.

The UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) is funding medical studies into the effects of suborbital space flights, in which travellers could be thrown into space for a short time period before descending to their destination much quicker than via airplane.

Suborbital flights, such as those offered by Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic, currently cost more than £350,000 per seat.

But regulators have predicted they will soon be less expensive, eventually becoming intercontinental travel option ‘accessible to anybody’.

According to The Sunday Times, a CAA-funded study found that most people handled the G-forces of suborbital space flights well.

Published in the journal Aerospace Medicine and Human Performance, it said: ‘Commercial suborbital space flights are now available for tourism and scientific research, and are ultimately anticipated to mature into extremely fast point-to-point travel, e.g. London to Sydney in less than two hours.’

Flights from London to Sydney currently take around 22 hours.

The research, conducted with King’s College London and facilitated by the RAF, found that those taking such flights would not need to be fit or young – with older people possibly better at dealing with space travel.

Dr Ryan Anderton, the CAA’s medical lead for flight, said: ‘Physiological responses are likely to be benign for most passengers,’ adding that older people usually have slightly ‘stiffer arteries’, which would lessen the pooling of blood away from the brain.

A failed attempt in January to launch satellites from UK soil has not stopped plans to turn Britain into a spaceforming nation.

Spaceport Cornwall has signed a memorandum of understanding with US firm Sierra Space for spaceplanes to land in Newquay, while six more UK spaceports are in the works.

Don’t like it? Get off my plane! 22-year-old female pilot who has been flying since she was 14 fires back at sexist and ageist trolls who claim she’s ‘too young to fly’

  • Sabrina Johnson, 22, is frequently slammed for being ‘too young to fly’
  • She started flying when she was just 14 after being introduced to it by her dad
  • As much as she loves her job, she sometimes struggles with the hate

A 22-year-old pilot has revealed she frequently fires back at trolls who make sexist comments about her and claim she’s too young to fly a plane.

Sabrina Johnson is an airline and helicopter pilot who has been flying since she was 14, and despite having nine years of experience soaring the skies, she still struggles to fit into the male-dominated field.

The pilot, who doesn’t reveal the name of the airline she flies for, frequently shares her travels with her followers on both Instagram and TikTok, where she boasts more than 71,000 followers.

And while Sabrina tries to pay no mind to negative remarks, she sometimes chooses to fire back, saying she doesn’t ‘trust’ anyone on her plane who doesn’t think she is capable of flying.

Speaking to Insider, she revealed that while she received a ton of admiration for her job, Sabrina said there were also many comments hating on her.

According to the Pilot Institute, only about 9.5 per cent of pilots are women, which makes Sabrina stick out in the male-dominated field, opening her up to the ruthlessness of trolls.

She said some people even claim she was faking flying a plane and slammed her for her young age.

‘They say, “I wouldn’t trust you to fly a plane” all the time. And I’m like, “Hey, I wouldn’t trust you to be on my plane,”‘ Sabrina added.

Her dad was the person who first got her into flying by setting up a discovery flight for her – where those interested in becoming pilots can learn more about aircrafts.

She said that as soon as she started learning about flying, she became addicted.

Now, nine years later, she is a pro.

She usually files an Embraer ERJ 175, which is a 76-passenger jet.

Her flights are within the US, Mexico, and Canada. The longest flight she has made is from Chicago to Mexico, which was a three-and-a-half-hour trip.

Sabrina’s favorite part of being a pilot is taking in the glorious views.

‘My favorite part of flying in general is the sights. On the cloudiest day, I pop above the clouds and see the sun and the sunset. You just can’t beat the sights,’ she told Insider.

And although she loves the sights, Sabrina said the ’24/7 vacations’ don’t hurt.

As a pilot, she is only required to pay the taxes on tickets.

Because she loves her job so much, Sabrina hopes that she can inspire young girls to never stop chasing their dreams, and never let anything stand in their way.
